With this weekends Apocalypse release, there are a number of bundles that are to help save you the time needed to purchase them individually. There are people saying that there are some bundles, that instead of saving you money, actually cost you more when you buy the bundle. I do not know for sure which ones they are, so perhaps if you find one you can list them below in the comment section to help the community out from paying extra. (The windrider host is one of them)

Pins of War breaks down the price problems with the Windrider host here

So this is just a heads up out there, before you get carried away with the easy clicking, check them first. I suppose that would take longer than buying separately at this time, so perhaps you should be doing that instead.

I am hoping this was just a mistake in some way that will be corrected.

    1. Very typical. Model company selling models, and 'helping' you out nonetheless! So what happened to the Chapterhouse v GW page posted a few hours ago? Tried to read it but doesn't exist anymore....

    2. How is selling me the same models that i could get on their site for cheaper just by not using their one-click deal "helping" me exactly?

    3. Sorry, there is people who would say the same and aren't being sarcastic, sometimes its hard to tell.

  2. I'm yet to meet anyone who has even bought any of the bundles let alone the apoc ones.

Do you know anyone that purchases 14 million models a year? Cuz if not then the 4 people you know that play WH is pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

  3. Well, the 'Imperial Shield Infantry Company' can be beaten if you shop smartly. It includes: 4 Imperial Guard Cadian Command Squads; 1 box of Imperial Guard Regimental Advisors; 6 boxes of Cadian Shock Troops; and 3 Imperial Guard Cadian Heavy Weapon Squads. This Bundle costs £252.75

However, if you bought 3 Imperial Guard Cadian Battleforces, giving you: 3 Imperial Guard Cadian Command Squads; 6 squads of Cadian Shock Troops; 3 Imperial Guard Cadian Heavy Weapon Squads; and then 3 Sentinals..... So that costs £225 so far... All you need then is another command squad for £15.50 and the Regimental Advisors for £10.75. This then totals £251.25

Thats a saving of £1.50 and gives you 3 Sentinals as well.

  4. Same can be done with the Catachan Ambush Patrol at £93.50.... Catachan Battleforce at £75 + another squad of Catachan at 18 give you the same as the Bundle for 50p cheaper plus a 'free' Sentinal....

  5. The earlier 'no savings' bundles were silly, but I feel this is quite stupid, and if nothing else I find it sort of insulting.

    1. It's a mistake either way: either the prices are mistaken or they made a serious error if judgement!

  6. Disgusting behavior, nothing else.

  7. I remember when the original Apoc bundles came out. The tyranid assault brood was like buy 2 battleforces and get an extra fex free plus they were not direct only so you could get standard discounts on them.

    1. Yeah, those original bundles were amazing. Some of them saved you like 10-20%, these new ones are complete crap.

    2. I remember buying the tide of spawn, which then included ten chaos space marines as well. I think I paid about 45£. The new one costs my regional equivalent of three times that, without the marines.

    3. I'm hideously bitter that the Leman Russ Company costs £310 when it was £150 in 2007... mainly because I foolishly didn't buy it back then haha!

    4. Jeeez... just imagine what it'll cost 5 years from now?

  8. The Windrider Host bundle is calculated as if you are purchasing the Eldar Jetbikes and Eldar Vypers separately and not through the bundle deals.

Strange that they did it that way.

  9. The Necron Infinite Phalanx comes with 10 Necron Warrior squads and is the same cost as if you bought 10 Necron Warrior kits. Problem is that the Infinite Phalanx doesn't come with any scarabs. So for the same price you're losing out on 30 scarabs.

    1. I'm not sure about that.
Do you really think they'll make the effort of reboxing it?

    2. The description and picture doesn't mention any scarabs, and I'm not willing to pay $362.50 to find out.

    3. The scarabs come on the gun sprue. They might not include the larger bases, but they can't remove the models.

  10. I make the massive terrain bundle as 175 pound saving. Still whose got £981 available to just spend..

  11. Well, some of them spare you money and some of them cost more.

E.g.: Mandragora court costs less if bought piece by piece (and you'll likely already own enough lords and crypteks if you play necrons).

    1. P.s.: the one with the monoliths allows you to spare some money.

  12. Glad I git my my windriders last time around

  13. What really makes you spare money is to play warhammer 40k as it is meant to be played. 1,500 points an army: MORE fun. Even smaller battles and dedicated scenarios are far better than an immense collection that takes you two days to complete a firing phase. Apocalypse was intended (at least they told you so in the first edition) to combine some armies from your friends, not to own for yourself a complete space marine chapter.

    1. ...and yet there will be many, many a gamer who will be boasting about the horde they will be fielding with only a few guys to paint. I personally find very large games anything but fun. Especially when opponents have the "kitchen sink" mentality. Or I guess soon thanks to Apoc the "vortex grenade" mentality.

    2. My friends and I take years just to finish a single turn in a 1500 point game. Apocalypse would be suffering for us.

  14. GW based the prices on the individual jetbike and viper boxes, not the squadron sets.

Using the prices for the individual sets it adds up to the bundle's cost.

    ReplyDelete
  15. You save 8 quid per vyper squadron over buying 3 separate vypers, and the windrider bundle is 16 quid more than it should be...

It should be noted that the Saim-Hann one-click collection offered when the codex dropped for some reason only included 2 single vyper jetbikes rather than 1 of the new squadron sets. Possible they used that as their 'base' when making the windrider host one. I'm inclined to go with incompetence rather than malice for this particular pricing fook-up.

    1. Ah! No I think I might just change my mind to malice:- "It includes: 1 Eldar Autarch on Jetbike Upgrade Pack; 1 Eldar Jetbike; 6 Eldar Vyper Jetbikes; and 4 Jetbike Squadrons."

They technically tell you EXACTLY what you are buying, you are buying 6 Vyper Jetbikes, NOT 2 Vyper Jetbike Squadrons. Hidden in plain sight.

  16. People that buy those 1click bundles where you save nothing don't deserve any better.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Just about everything to do with the apocalypse release has shown up the worst side of GW, and in the middle of a year of mostly good moves (imo). The 1 click bundles are vulgar and stupid. There is simply no incentive to buy things all at once, and I for one like choosing exactly what goes in an army that size. The whole "look we saved you time" schpiel just sickens me. I despise marketing, avarice and stupidity and this is a hobby I find myself increasingly unable to square with those values.

  18. 3 vipers for 47.50 have now been removed from GW website....
