This is very cool, now you can get some pre-release information on exactly what formations are available for each army. Yes, you can see many of them. How? Check this out.

On the Games Workshop site, GW has graciously, (I mean  it, thank you), provided us with one click (non money savers) bundles, that includes the entire formaton. So to see some of the new apocalypse formations for your army..... simply go to the Games Workshop site and look under your army. There is now a section called Apocalypse formations.

I have spent a good half hour reading through these for some insight, so its great fun. Just to make it easier for you to do the same, here is the 40k GW link
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/landing.jsp?catId=cat440130a&rootCatGameStyle=wh40k

Here are some examples.

Kabalite Web Strike

Baleful Necropolis

Helldrake Fear Squadron

  1. Really interesting. But I just saw that the sisters of battle got nothing for them again, that's sad.

    1. My guess is either, becoming a supplement or getting a fully fledged codex.

    2. These are one-click bundles. They aren't going to include that many pewter models in a single group. Still hope.

      Delete
    3. Sisters aren't produced in anything but metal right now, that's why. Also, they will be getting an update soon enough. At this release rate, all armies will be out before the end of 2015.

  2. I only got it to ~80 one-click deals.. And there is alot of formations thats gone from last Apoc.. =/

They released some new Apoc formations for Necrons with the 5th codex, they are gone. None of the old ones have been revamped, like the monolith formations. I got 3 monotliths allready that only got used in Apoc.. And now they want me to do Another 5 basic ones? Hmpf..

And Marines... Line Breaker, Land Raider formation, Whirlwind + spotter..

And Reading at what pages the diff armies start, there are no room for more SM formations that they might have missed to put n the site.

    1. Hmm.. Found Another 15 formations under Warzone..

Seriously.. How many ppl will use Dev reserv Company formation compared to Linebreaker?

Been waiting so long for some new and fun formations and all they do is remove som fun ones and replace them with some stupid ones..

      Delete
    2. Maybe not updated ones (especially those from Apoc: Reloaded and from IA books) are still legal?

      Delete
    3. We can only hope Maciek, but why not reprint Everything while they at it? As you can't buy Reload anymore, new apoc players will never be able to field those formations.

      Delete
    4. Who says they aren't in the book anymore?
Ime pretty sure the one-click deals aren't all the formations that exist

      Delete
    5. Well Spiderdrol, it says Marines starts at page 96, Blood Angels starts at 105. Which gives 9 pages of Marine formations, and there are 10 on the site. Spacewolf at 108, gives BA 3 and they got 3 on site, DA at 112 gives Wolfs 4 pages and they got 4 formations on the site.

I sure o hope Iam wrong, but it doesnt feel like there will be any positive suprise that they missed the 1-click deal for Linebreaker for example.

    6. I hadn't looked at the page numbers yet.
Well I definately hope they'll have more formations. Maybe in future apoc supplements? There are the formations in the armageddon warzone thingie and in the collector's edition there's another warzone with some extra formations that will not be released for a while (seems like they are going to keep supporting the supplements this time around, hopefully they'll do the same when there are new releases à la space hulk) so there is hope yet.

    7. As Jerry says, C:SM formations are on pages 96 through 104:

Page 96: Space Marine Battle Co., Assault Co., Devastator Co., and Tactical Co.

      Page 98: 1st Co.

      Page 99: Librarius

Page 100: Masters of the Chapter

      Page 101: Predator Assassin Squadron

      Page 102: Scout Co.

Page 103: Imperial Fist Titanhammer Squad

There are no one-click collections for page 97 or 104 (104 could be an introductory page for Blood Angels, though). Also, four of the formations are found on one page; i.e., page 96. I wouldn't be surprised if other formations without a one-click option share pages with those that do. I doubt that the description of a Predator Assassination Squadron will actually take up a whole page when you can fit four companies on one.

    1. there is always people that want to pay loads so they can brag more
a person that buys a 1-2k deal only does it for the braging not for the saveing of klicks

i mean what good is that if you don´t have someone the play the game for you later? :D

  4. Saidly the DA ones suck :(
you can only ever field on DW formation if you have to take belial and with RW you don´realy want those single speeders. This is more of a buy 5 RW command squads, its not very game orientet but only fluff IMO

Also i recommend checking the Armagedon section

    1. The site specifically states that the formations ARE taken from the fluff though...

    2. It's the old spearhead formation from the old book. This formation used to be Belial, an I Chaplin in terminator, or Libby in terminator. You think they constrained it to Belial because of a one click??? You dont think they're just pushing the new model?

How often does the sky fall in your world?

  6. Have Dark Eldar actually gotten anything for Apoc yet? Like actual Apoc units?

    1. Sure, I think it's called the tantalus, from forgeworld. Looks like a catamaran.

      Delete
    2. Well, neither have Daemons. To be horribly honest, it feels a cheat. There are few new models for all armies, no plugged gaps in the ranges and the force orgs are easy enough to throw together under the auspice of 'big and cool'. After all, who cares if 9 monoliths are equivalent in power to another formation?

Yes, lovely photography. Yes the fortifications are quite nice (they are - I won't deny I'd like lots of them) but the reality back at home is that there's not really a lot here except some very expensive models (one a rebox of an old one and another £45 slapped on the price).

I know, I know, it's a money maker but there's not enough here.

      Delete
    3. JRL - I knew there was a Tantalus and the other thing with a cannon of some sort, but I was hoping for something big and deadly. I guess I'm just sad with what 6th and all of the new codex releases have done to DE after waiting 10+ years for a book release.

Peg, I completely agree with you.

      Delete
    4. Dark Eldar still function dangerously well in the hands of a halfway decent general. Plus, with how fast 6th is updating, do you REALLY think you'll be waiting that long to get some love?

6th edition is barely a year old and we've seen more for the game than in any edition prior. At this rate, every army will have a fully updated codex + supplements before the end of 2015.

      Delete
    5. Crow, I know what you mean about teh Dark Eldar. What 6th edition gave them (i.e. not the whole unit dying when you flat out transport is imobilised), it greatly took away (5+ Feel no Pain instead of 4+). Dark Eldar are still playable under 6th certainly against fellow 5th edition armies using 6th edition rules, but I am begining to wonder how playable they are becoming with new 6th edition codexes.

This is exemplified by the new Eldar Codex. Effectively now Kabalite warriors are the same profile as guardians, but guardians can glance av10, and have mini-rend. They can run AND shoot, and can move and shoot their heavy weapon platform. They also come with plasma greandes as standard, whilst kabalite warriors cannot even buy them. So you would think that guardians should cost a little more? Nope, both guardians and warriors are the same cost.

Kabalite trueborn are the same profile as Dire Avengers except with a worse save. Avengers get plasma as standard, but trueborn can upgrade, and in doing so will cost the same points as Avengers. But Avengers have the same advantages as the guardians with their weapons, and extra skills.

Similarly for hawks and scourges, except here scourges are 5 points more expensive. Ok so we get poison weapons, but it is only when you come up against T5 do splinter weapons have an advantage over shuriken weapons, which is then evened out again against T7 SV3+ monstrous creatures.

Anyway Rant over, and back to Apocalypse. I never played it, but I am confused by the load out of the Kabalite Web Strike force. In W40k codex the archon needs to join another unit or a court to get a Venom, but here it is implying that he can have one all to himself. I am assuming that the rules may be slightly different, but I always thought that apocalypse followed the basic rules for dedicated transports.

    6. I guess I'm just sick of power creep with codices. I don't get the chance to play 40k as often as I like to. Dark Eldar waited a very long time to get some love, and I played them as often as I can, then had to stop for a while. I just really don't like how they were changed in 6th overall, and pretty soon all of the other books are going to completely outshine them when they get their releases.

  7. these one click bundles are a slap in the face, it was only yesterday I was talking to my mate about games workshops old bag-a-blister mail order deals and how great they were. They want your soul these days. Having said that I still love those new fortifications.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So don't buy them. They don't owe you a discount anyway, so it's not a slap in the face, or a soul stealing effort. They only make the money if you give it to them.

  8. Anyone else think its kinda sad the went to the effort to do the whole warzone Armageddon thing and the only representation it looks the Steel Legion is getting, at least in the bundles, is the paint scheme on the demo sentinels? I guess they removed the metal troops, but this would have been the perfect time for plastic steel legion, no?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No, it wouldn't have. The point here was to release updated Apocalypse formations for every army, bring the rules in line with 6th, and a few new super heavy toys. If they sell well, every army will get one (I'm sure).

Steel Legion would likely be a supplement to the next IG codex, if anything.

  9. Some of the one click deals cost MORE.......

    ReplyDelete
  10. Seriously guys. Old apoc formation were variable in unit number. Maybe the new stuff is 1-8 Monolith + Vault? The one clicks are money grabs. Wait on the rules before you lose your minds.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Every company that has ever sold anything for more than cost is working the money grab angle. That doesn't make it evil.

      Delete
    2. I don't think they're evil though. I just think the one clicks are the maxium formation sizes.

      Delete
    3. Donno, carnifex crusher formation is 3 broods meaning 9 max carnifex. That monolith formation is based on an old formation that required you to make a custom super monolith and if I remember correctly it was 3 minimum plus super monolith.

      Delete
    4. I sure hope the one-clicks are maximum formation sizes. I want to field a Titanhammer Squad, but I was expecting to be running 10 Terminators rather than 15.

I also wonder if all three tanks in the Steel Fury Company have to be Baneblades or if one or more could be Shadowswords.

      Delete
  11. Anyone as an idea of the actual special rule for the Dark Olympiad formation? If you look at the models listed there is 1 Beastmaster, 1 Clawed Fiend,1 set of Khymerae and 1 Dark Eldar Razorwing Flock and this is illegal for the codex (only one type of beast for beastmaster).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Where does it say there's only one type of beast? I thought you could take any up to a certain limit for each, with a new beastmaster doubling the limit basically.

      Delete
    2. Page 90 of the codex (italian edition) says that each beastmaster can bring "one of the following option" the proper beasts. As I read this, if you want two type of beasts you have to take two beastmaster. I don't know the exact wording in english but the meaning should be the same.

      Delete
    3. In the English you can definitely take more than 1 type...

      Delete
    4. Ok, maybe I am wrong with the translation, but I peeked in the English version and it says "Each Beastmaster may be accompanied by one of the following option" the same wording as "One Beastmaster may replace his close combat weapon with one of the following". Excuse me if I'm pedant but this will change one thing or two in the way I play.

  12. I'm hoping the bundles on gws site aren't the only formations available. Neeeed a flyrant or tervigon formation. Though I am excited to see subterranean.

  13. Anyone know if there will be rules for the Titans like in the last book? Frankly, it was the first time in nearly a decade that I could dust off the Armorcast Warhounds and hoping this will not change.

  14. GW's "graciousness" is a little underwhelming :/

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh dudes if they ask me to burn 95 pounds of unit and extra for book and still i get docked with old formations...and baneblade box is getting price up without reboxing or anything... srsly ? this is not cool.

If a week ago you would get old baneblade x 2 for 120 pounds it would be only 25 pounds more than 1 baneblade now.

I'm not getting into this one reason is simple i play apoc games 2-5 times a year... spending 500 pounds for this is crazy... i can be the smaller 5k poinds player and i'm still cool with it.

Back to my sons of horus project :O
