Small rumor bit this morning about the author of the upcoming army book for Warhammer Fantasy. Its simply that Jeremy Vetock is doing Dwarves. Dwarves are on the list to be updated as seen previously by this rumor bit.

Please remember that these are rumors, and Vetock doing Dwarves seems a little vague on its accuracy. Lizard Men are said to be next for Warhammer Fantasy

I'm pretty sure LM, DE & Dwarf players WILL get a new book before 9th, but not sure about the rest.

I heard whispers that Vetock was going to do/has done the Dwarf AB. Not confirmed, but likely.

  1. If he could move onto Tyranids shortly after, that would be great! (anyone but cruddace and kelly please!! lol)

  2. Considering he already wrote it:

    Step 1: Take Tau Codex
    Step 2: Ctrl+C
    Step 3: Take Dwarf Codex
    Step 4: Ctrl+V
    Step 5: Rewrite fluff
    Step 6: Redo cover

    Done!

  3. I know that none of these recent releases have really done much in the way of redoing basic troops, but if they miss the opportunity to redo the basic Dwarf Warriors/Thunderers I'll be really bummed out. The current sculpts really lack character.

Very excited to hear Vetock is doing the book though!!

    1. So do Tomb Kings skeletons, Necron Warriors and Tyranid Gaunts. The point is to get all books updated, with a few new toys, and then play "remake the old stuff" later.

    2. I just hope they do plastic Ironbreakers and/or Hammerers...

    3. Necron warriors has tonns of character imo. They are Legion. They are mindles, and portray that well.

    5. You should take a look at Avatars of War, they have some pretty nice dwarven units and characters.

    2. Ignore Warlord22 he just tries to be controversial! I think he is a p*ssed off ex-GW employee! He probably doesnt even play any of the GW systems!

    3. i dont agree on that

DA is a dissaster... we have 1 banner to make a Bike army some what good but you have no way of keeping the squad alive. Or should i say since the FAQ we have no real way. Powerfield not working on Landraider is just stupid. The whole dex is worse than SW or even vanilla and those books are the oldest marine books. Its even worse than the old DA dex. That had no anti air but now we only have bad anti air so i have to take allys anyway. And DW is not playable anymore. Just such a bad job on the dex. Its like he has no concept of balance!

      Delete
    4. Vetock did just fine on the Dark Angels Codex. I've won plenty of games in competitive play with them. God Forbid you can't use Powerfield on a Land Raider. The Ravenwing are utterly astounding in play and the Deathwing are incredible. The flexibility of the Codex is what truly impressed me. Only the Eldar currently have a more flexible Codex.

      Delete
    5. what flexability?
      like DW AND RW???? -.-

      you must be playing noobs?
what RW do well is kill cheap troops... they die to anything in melee or anything that shoots back well enough.
Landraider die super fast its just a matter of youre opponent packed something to do the job. And youre look at 250 + 300 for the banner squad... so youre pretty much screwd on the points allready. And if that wasn´t enough you pay around 200 for any must take IC you NEED in order to field DW or RW. Its just the worst the dex has ever been in decades. The most you might get is a 50% win rate. Any opponent you play twice probably bringst something to kill youre banner of right away. If you go for Bikes heal have ignores cover stuff or hard hitting melee units. And if you go with the Landraider you must hope he doesnt have a melta or lance weapong. Its not even funny how bad a army is if it depends on 1 stupid unit to be playable. Its not like you auto win with the banners.

      Delete
    6. and don´t forget all vetok did on this dex was bringing back the banner in the worst way. Coin flip! YEAH!!! -.-

the rest of the units are just must takes or absolutly useless. I don´t call that balanced. New Flyers unplayable, same for Plasma Speeder. Termis suck.... you have to take DKs now with FNP banner. RW suck without salvo banner. RK are way to overpriced for not doing much, just unplayable. And all the SM stuff is better in the SW or BA book. THX a lot Vetok for ruing DW and giveing us useless unplayable new stuff -.-

      Delete
    7. Wait, what? Dark Angels suck? Deathwing is better than it ever was, Ravenwing is in the same boat and even going green is good because you can do a solid gunline.

Yeah, sure, you're banner can get sniped or picked out, but that's not going to happen 100% of the time. Either the dice gods love or hate you.

As for Fantasy, Vetock did Ogres, and Ogres are a solid army. So I have no reason to doubt his work will take a sudden nose dive.

      Delete
    8. And I've been playing 1850 Deathwing since release to great success. So, I don't know why you think the Terminators suck.

      Delete
    9. just becaus you win
doesn´t mean points for TH/SS & cyclons did NOT go up and the same for squad and belial and we got only some stupid buff for Deepstrike wich is not good. Oh and we lost the ability to take decent weapons on the seargant. Compared to before its just bad with DW now. FNP banner doesn´t make up for it.

And pls put in perspectiv what part of the dex is Vetoks work. DW was in the old dex and just got point reworks.
Vetoks work is 2 f...ed up flyers and overpriced plasma speeder
Th/ss Termis with T5 unless they start dieing
and bikes with plas... but you pay the points -.-

whats his great input compared to the old dex?

      Delete
    10. Oh, so you were one of those TH/SS + Cyclone spammers, that might explain why you are bent out of shape. And in fact, the biggest contribution he made (in regards to Deathwing) WAS the rules added to Deep Striking. If you can't see how powerful twin-linking your storm bolters is when you deep strike, then I don't know what to tell you. Take into account split fire, and Deathwing got a ton of love. Look at 6th Ed. in general. 2+ saves got that much better because they gave power weapons AP values.

The downside of 6th? Assault might not be the best now, but as far as I'm concerned Deathwing have always been a dakka army.

Again, I don't know what to tell you, if you think Black Knights aren't good, because frankly they are amazing. They have plasma talons (ties in with above statement, ruin other Terminators days), and Rending close combat attacks, which is pretty neat.

Yes, you're paying a bit more for these things, but they do what they do exceptionally well.

      Delete
    11. Wish we could edit posts. I'm just throwing it out there that I've played and stuck with Dark Angels since 3rd Ed. So, take what I say as you will. When I looked at the new Codex, I saw nothing but love.

      Delete
    12. Not playing noobs- I'm playing seasoned players who know what they are doing. The DA flyers work wonderful- I have killed my share of Heldrakes and Space Marine Storm Talons with my Nephlim Jetfighters. Plus, I have disrupted my opponents with the stasis bombs.

While it is never about just winning but rather playing a viable Codex. The Dark Angeks are very viable and a lot more fun to play than they were in 4th edition.

Plus, my Cyclone Terminators do just fine in a game. You just need to know how to use the Death Wing properly- with Cyclones it is better to not Deep Strike with them. The Heavy Plasma Cannon on a terminator is just too cool to use to pass up on.

Final Verdict- Dark Angels Codex rocks! (So does Vetock for writing it.)

    13. i have all my DW magnetised to make all weapon variants. Its not only that TH/SS is bad now. Its Lightningclaws aswell. ANd Stormbolter twinlinked are not great at all. You can misshap or scatter off to far. You vounarable to assault the turn after. And its not like the reroll on bolters would help that much. Youre opponent sets up in cover or has saves and its just wasting termis into his army. How do you last a turn without stormshields in melee? you don´t! Deepstrikeing DW is not even intressting if you have RW salvo Bikes in the dex. YOu will never play DW.

BK are just a point sink. Sternguard are better! Even normal bikes are better unless youre faceing pure 2+ sv armys. All you need these guys for is point sink. Its not like anything that is beeing played in the meta is affraid of these gus. And its not exactly hard to kill them of even if you have the 2+ cover saves. Caus as i said a lot of ignores cover or units that don´t care about ap2 are around.

Vetoks ruined the DW dex. Its a general 1 squad less at 2k. I don´t see how twinlinked when you do a stupid deepstrike makes up for it. Any opponent with a brain can out play Deepstrikeing armys as well as footsluging armys. And youre still elite and sufer hard when takeing loses. Its just pure BS.

IMO only RW bike spam with banners or sm spam with salvo banner is somewhat playable. And thats just a coin flipp caus once you lose the banner its garanteed you lose.

Youre looking at it from a noob vs noob perspectiv. OFC you will win a game against people that don´t pack ap2 or mass shoots vs termis. Ofc you will win against people that shoot everything at youre banner but didn´t bring the right thing to do so. Ofc you will win some games with almost any dex. But i am talking about competetiv play. People that abuse the rules and exploit them and that pla the tactics to out class deepstrike or scout or sitting in cover with sm or scouts. This dex is to straight forward in that takeing a banner makes week army good and that all you get now that they nerfed powerfield. I don´t see how that is great work by vetok?
Its not like anything he added to the dex is better than takeing allys.

    14. We do play competively and I've won with DW in a tournament. Deep striking with DK is just awesome. You dump one of the hardest hitting forces in the game into the thick of battle. I have had a squad survive a full half of my opponent (against Lascannons and massed troop/tank shots).

Warlord22- I'm beginning to suspect that you don't even play Dark Angles.

      Delete
    15. I'm thinking they don't either, because the new Codex is a vast improvement over the old codex.

I've also placed well as pure Deathwing at a few tournaments in my area too.

      Delete
    16. I find this humorous. Dark Angel Players are still whining about their codex, it's almost like it's required to whine about it to play as them XD

      Delete
    17. i have played the DKs with psyker and backed by FNP banner squad. Its good if you just want them to live long. But they can only realy fight in 1 combat and the main problem is you can´t move them once youre down. Not mentioning the misshap and bad scatters you can get in 33% of the cases. And its not like youre opponent wont know whats comeing. I think youre opponent must not be good.

In the end there is much better dexes out there wich are not from vetok. And i don´t see DW or RW owning up in the tournaments.

      Delete
    18. Do you know how much damage a herd of 10 Deathwing Knights can do in the midst if the opponent's army? It is wonderful. At 570 points you have an unstoppable wave of DA. I should know...I won a tournament with them.

      Delete
    19. A large unit of Deathwing Knights is great. But other than that, Deathwing are still primarily a shooting army.

I don't understand how you (Warlord22) don't think they are any good. You shouldn't really be assault every chance you get with them, and if you kit them out for CC and/or don't Deep Strike them, you're missing out on a lot of things. I also don't understand how you dismiss twin-linking weapons...

Assume Belial in a command squad that has assault cannon. They can deep strike behind enemy lines WITHOUT scattering and then dakka an opportune target (infantry, heavy weapons etc) while the assault cannon split fires into the rear of a vehicle you want out of action. All these shots being twin-linked means that you've got a damn good chance most shots will hit home and do the damage they need to. It also helps Belial with his precision shots working on a 5+, he may even pick out a juicy target from it's squad.

  5. He did a pretty good job with the Tau codex, so would be interesting to see what he does with Dwarves, though I'll take this with a pinch of salt given the quality of previous codex author rumours.

  6. I really hope everyone gets a new book before 9th and they wait a while before releasing 9th Edition. I am really tired of the new edition every 4 years cycle. I much preferred how before 4th Edition 40k and 7th Edition Fantasy we actually got a couple of years for everyone to have a dex or army book that was published in whatever edition was current at the time.

  15. Jeremy has played Dwarfs since we worked together at GW South Street, Philadelphia in '91 and he still owns his all LEAD Marauder Miniatures Dwarf army. Now that he's in a position to do it there is NO WAY he is letting anyone in the studio write the new Dwarfs Warhammer army book aside from himself!!! The entry in his own personal Book of Grudges (yes, he really has one) would be terrifying. I'm not privy to when that might be, but it WILL be Jeremy who will be penning the Dwarf book...and it will be spectacular!

  16. Ur assuming he will have a say !?....Dwarves wont be for ages seemingly well down the list. And fantasy battle no one cares , other than for conversion opportunities. Wont be big rewrite. Fluff stay same. Unused units get a buff?Others get big nerf. Few new kits. One big. Done.

    1. "fantasy battle no one cares"

Surely you aren't suggesting that Warhammer Fantasy Battle does not have a significant fan base? I credit you with being an intelligent individual so I can only assume that I have misunderstood this comment. As you have probably guessed, I am primarily a fantasy collector. I find the aesthetics and quality of the models more pleasing, although I do like 40k too.

I worked in GW for a while, and though I left in 2006 I doubt that there has been significant change in the overall trends. 40k made, generally, higher sales. But they were erratic, given that more children got into and then drifted out of 40k. This in itself is no mystery: 40k has always been, quite frankly, a bit easier. Fewer models which are generally easier for a beginner to manage and much more simply mastered tabletop rules (no specialist movement rules, no charge arcs, no flank bonuses, more easily discovered killer combos etc). The counter to this is that Warhammer Fantasy had a much more consistent albeit *slightly* lower sales average (roughly 60/40, I'd say, and bear in mind that 40k products have *always* been significantly more expensive per unit than Fantasy, which may account for this).

Once more, I do not believe for a moment that you intended to suggest that Fantasy is unpopular. I make this clarification before someone else assumes that such was your intent and reacts angrily. I do not believe any intelligent commentator would make such a comment because it is arrogant, ignorant and financially illiterate. Arrogant because it implies an inferiority of product where none exists. Ignorant because it ignores the very impressive number of Warhammer Fantasy collectors. And financially illiterate because it assumes that GW, an extremely ruthless and extremely tactical business would continue to extensively invest in a product which is not profitable. And if nobody cared about Warhammer Fantasy, it would most certainly not be profitable.

I'm sure you wrote your comment hastily and didn't mean it exactly the way it came out. But I do know there are plenty of collectors who enjoy both product lines and are extremely weary of peculiarly arrogant and inexplicably superior mono-40k collectors. Lucky that I happened by!

  18. He's written O&G and cowrote Ogres and both are solid books IMO. In terms of power level, obviously Ogres are a bit above Orcs but if you play Orcs as they were meant to be played ie as a magical shooting army and not run and get into combat as quickly as possible, then i believe you can certainly have some success with them. Here in my meta O&G players aren't as successful as Skaven or DE, but they enjoy playing them more then any of their other armies from both WFB and 40k.
