Armybooks Gone and a New Kind of Ebook

All of the army books for Warhammer Fantasy I checked were missing on the GW webstore this morning confirming the reports I was hearing. This along with the FAQ's missing yesterday are signs there is about to big reshuffling of the Fantasy models on the GW site.

Also a new banner today hinting at something new for ebooks

    1. Just cant make up my mind about the empire models. Chaos isnt in doubt though, i really don't like what their doing with them

    2. I love the golden models. I have never loved the "chaos" look. The box picture looks 7 shades of goofy though. I am beyond excited for this release.

    3. Me too but at this point its the rules that got me hangin for the 11th

    4. Yeah, the Chaos dudes are... yeah.

I like the Sigmarite dudes, I just wish they weren't so Blood Angels-y. They're just Sang Guard with Storm Shields and Thunder Hammers. They even have Death Masks.

    5. Aren't they Sigmar Knights and not actually the Empire though?

      Like, a different faction?

    6. probably, although we dont know anything for sure yet, do we?

currently im looking at it the same way as astra militarum and space marines.

    7. Weren't there supposed to be female models too? I guess GW representing both genders a little more equally was too much to hope for.

    8. Well lets be honest with this female warrior issue.

I know only one country which has mandatory military service regardless of gender and it is Israel. I am pretty sure some other as fanatic countries as Israel has that too such as North Korea.

In history ladies have always been left home to do the jobs that male population did before wartime and to take care of children. Some armies have of course had females in specialist, support and entertainment duties but being a soldier hasn't been an option for ladies for a long time. Of course there are exceptions but they are rare occasions.

Because of this it would take some serious effort to write a fluff that would support credibly an army that has only female soldiers or even 1:1 ratio of female to male soldiers.

I live in a country which has mandatory military service for males and females can apply for the service if they wish. During my service there were four females in a whole brigade that I was aware of and none of them trained to be "just" a jaeger and instead they trained to be a medic, military police officer, a communications officer and an intelligence officer.

For me it just is so much more credible for miniature armies to have only few females and for them to be special characters in roles that they usually are. Of course there are exceptions for this too such as the Sisters of a Battle.

    9. Plus plate armor with boobs makes no bloody sense.

Like, seriously, that thing would cave in under the smallest blow and crush their lungs. I'm looking at you Sisters of Battle.

    10. ^

My argument to the above: Fantasy world. This isn't Finland (I'm assuming from your name, sorry if wrong), and the laws of realism don't apply. Pretty sure women can come kick some ass with the dudes without "BREAKIN MUH IMMERSHUN."

      Inb4 I'm called an "SJW."

    11. from a design point of view i am surprised that the new line of sigmartarians is almost incompatible to the old models an armies. take the latest starter set high elfes and skaven - they look like from a different game by a different designer from a different publisher.

and the new logo looks like layouted in powerpoint. by head of sales :)

    12. Thomas, you hit the spot on my home country :)

Point was actually that it would take some serious fluff writing to make it credible and we haven't seen that coming off from GW to be honest.

Since we all hail from reality (atleast I hope that none believes we live in 40K universe) it is much simplier to justify why two groups of males fight against each other as we carry our cultural ballast with us even when we are gaming.

SoB are a good example of how you write fluff to support female fighters.

  2. I will need to see more models before I judge anything but I'm getting pumped up. I'm ready to glue my old elf army to round bases and finally paint a few just for fun.

  3. Gone in australia as well. Im curious to see if its true we can still use all the units from the old fantasy armies in AOS then where do we get the rules? Do we use the 8th army books or are they changing rules and making them available another way?

    1. i was working on the assumption before that the current UNITS wouldnt exist in the new rules, but other units in the rules would be suitable for existing models whilst not being exactly the same.

but now im thinking they may release some digital dataslates for old units with age of sigmar rules for a limited time, or something to that effect

    2. Klick the pic.
On the bottom right read the Text.

      "a new Age for Warhammer..."

      Its even still called Warhammer.

GW toke a Page out of Apples playbook.
"a new age..." or "this device will change the world" as Apple put it.

If you say it people will belive it.
This new game, is not even rebranding.
      Its just rebaseing.

  4. Most stores will still have the books out back and have been told to sell them if people want them :)

    1. That's what they're doing at the moment - I have to doubt they'll do that permanently.

  5. I dont get why theyd pull all of this 8th edition stuff if they were moving to a new format.... Kinda dickish of games workshop if thats the case.

    1. They have done this in the past and they will do it again. It's a bit like being in an abusive relationship in that we keep coming back for more.

    2. I'm just sticking to the Grim Darkness of the 41st millenium now. At least I know GW are*very* unlikely to toss it. If ever we hear serious rumours about "40k End Times" we'll know it's the end of the road.

    3. ^ it will happen, once everyone has 40,000 shades of space marines and even the latest space marine inside a terminator inside a centurion inside a dreadnought inside a space marine scout....it will happen....time will tell (as it always does)

    4. Because they aren't going to support 8th Ed Fantasy any more, and don't want the books/models to muddy any sales of what Fantasy is going forward?

  6. All of the End times books have been removed on UK store now. The models are still available.

      Wtf guys.
      You belive everything GW says?

    6. Snap fit is not a excuse, these models are just clumsy and boring. If thats the new faction to drive players into WHFB...not happening.

  8. I like the new sigmarite models. They have a real "wrath of heaven" vibe.

  9. Anyone have a solid line on the box price?

    If it's £75-80 then brilliant!

    1. £75 is what im hoping, but anything up to £100 i think i can accept. more than that would be too much though

      Delete
    2. More than £80 would be too much imo. It is meant to be a starter after all, something you can convince parents to buy. I dunno about other people, but if I had kids (god forbid), I wouldn't be willing to indulge them to the tune of £100 for a hobby they might not even keep up for more than a few months =P

    3. My bet is 120£
If the Terrain is Part of the starter Box.

  10. Not loving these at all, the models seems
to be very...chubby. I can't put my finger on it but stylistically these are so different I'm not sure how well the old models will fit in. It reminds me of Warmachine and I don't particularly like them either!
