Forgeword this morning has revealed a Chaos Knight! Really a lot of people have been waiting for something like this, and Forgeworld delivered this morning.

through the Forge World Studio I saw something pretty exciting, a Knight sworn to the powers of Chaos. I hear it’ll be ready for production soon!

  1. That Knight is dark, and full of terrors...

  2. Death to the false emperor!

  3. Yay. Just add spikes and crawling skin to Imperial stuff instead of offering something truly unique for Chaos (like the Slaaneshi Daemon Knights from Epic).

    Me no like. :-(

    1. well, you'll get the khorne knight too :P giving upgrade parts for the questoris is a nice start (and logically - not every knight became a slaaneshi knight) - FW/GW can still make the slaaneshi knights later :>

      Delete
    2. I hope they do! It's a good start, but I'd love to see some more crazy and unique stuff.

    3. love for the other gods would be much appreciated in general, in both forgeworld and citadel.

    4. nothing new? like the decimator?

    5. Easy there doom sayer, has GW or FW said they are not making anything at all related to the Slaanesh Knights? If so, then provide proof, if not, then just wait a bit. The tempo on production has picked up from both sides.

      Delete
    6. We don't need " proof of nothing" to be disappointed in what we are seeing. The fact that Khorne has a pile of crap while the other gods (especially slaanesh) keep getting passed up is proof enough. The fact that there wasn't a line in the codex that said "chaos players can use this too" is plenty of reason to be cheesed. I'm not buying a model I cannot use. I'm especially not paying twice what an imperial player has to to buy a model I cannot use.

      Delete
    7. Khorne sells, simple as that. By far the most popular god.

Would love to see the other gods represented, but FW are right to go this direction first :)

      Delete
    8. @ wowshun:

What came first, the chicken or the egg? Is Khorne more popular than the others because they got a plastic box and units like the Lord of LOLs, or did they get the plastic troops box and other units because they were the most popular to begin with?

Because I have to tell you, a lot of times with things like 40K, the old adage of "If you build it, they will come" holds true. If Tzeentch had a plastic kit and a model from the old Epic range (Doomwing, Firelord, Silver Tower) I guarantee that 1K sons would be many times more popular than they are. And LOL at this debate when a Tzeentch release is somewhere on the horizon, and the 1K sons box looking like it has been pulled already.

It's like listening to people argue that SoB don't get new models because their sales are too low. Thing is, I remember when SoB sales WEREN'T low, and when GW pushes out the SoB release you'll see their popularity spike.

    9. FW's main task is fleshing out 30k and the Heresy, Chaos/daemon Knights are born from that era so I expect to see more versions. They're starting at the beginning and as you'd expect from Those Once Loyal (bonus points for anyone...?) the signs of corruption start off fairly small. Expect proper stuff later on as 30k progresses...

    1. id be happy with even just allowing imperial knights to be battle brothers with chaos for using these things >.>

    2. Probably the same 'Chaos' rules garbage they tack onto every Imperium Release. Make the weapons slightly worse, give it fewer upgrades, and of course, make sure you tack on 'demonic possession' for lower BS and no benefit whatsoever.

      Delete
    3. Giving it demon usr would be fantastic

      Delete
    4. I'm guessing they'll also add in Marks for the 4 powers, with bonuses similar to those already present in IA13. Plus, doom sirens, malefic ammunition, fear maybe?, and warpflame gargoyles.

      Delete
    5. fewer upgrades? like CC weapon options, marks, etc... right chaos always has fewer options.

      Delete
    6. I'm guessing DrBored has not read IA13 yet, where several Chaos units got more options than their Imperial counterparts.

      Delete
    7. ^ good chance DrBored hasn't......not everyone owns that book ya know....

      Delete
    8. Yes but you don't have a right to gripe about chaos now that IA13 is out. Some of the best options and variations available to anyone

      Delete
    9. Yes, we do. Forgeworld is neither ubiquitously permitted, nor is it available to everyone. Chaos players have every damn right to gripe. We have to pay twice what imperial players do to get access to half the stuff.

      Delete
    10. @DrendDragonspawn Forgeworld is available to -everyone- If you have access to 40k, you have the same access and availability to Forgeworld so that's a halfbaked argument. As for it being Ubquitiously permitted, more and more GTs and major tournaments are allowing it with the rapid expansion of 40k, and if you're having a FLGS game, getting the okay from your opponent/friend isn't that difficult either unless they wanna be "That Guy" about stuff.

    11. I'm not even sure whether you have to take 'Renegades and Heretics' as allies to take any of those vehicles, OR a related formation, OR if it depends on what those units are labeled as (for example, being able to take Blood Slaughterers with KDK because they are considered Daemons/Khornate).

If you need to ally with Renegades and Heretics, then sorry, I'll pass. There are only a couple vehicles I'd be interested in anyways, and I don't want to have buy a book just for a Sicaran or Fire Raptor (and much less, buy the book to take an allied force that I also have to buy just in order to take a vehicle in the first place, if that is the case). Formations I cant really comment on (though overall I dislike formations), and even if you can just take a vehicle straight from IA13 without having to take allies or buying a formation...I don't want to have to buy another book just so I can take a vehicle from outside my core dex.

I mean, I dunno...arguing that Dr Bored is wrong because of some units in IA13, seems like ignoring the forest for the trees somewhat. Barring several units from IA13, and ignoring whether or not they're considered R&A or actual CSM units, what he said is pretty accurate for the majority of Chaos stuff. And it's been that way I'm guessing since at least, what, 2nd ed? Like for example, Chaos getting plasma weapons in 2nd ed that were more dangerous versions of the loyalist versions (sustained fire dice, higher rate of fire, but more accidents). Since then they've pretty much done exactly what Dr Bored said...with the exception of a few vehicles in the (relatively) recent IA13, I guess?

      Delete
    12. Well, the criticism made was that the rules they release are just tacked-on garbage, and people are pointing out that IA13 makes this not the case. It is, (unfortunately) much more Khorne-focused than equally balanced, but it does give options and rules for the 4 factions. It has varied and often complex rules for most of the Astartes vehicles, allowing them to be taken by CSM forces, as well as daemon engines, daemon titans, and unique imperial guard allies. One of the better books, IMO, content-wise.

Most of the stuff in IA13 is available to CSM armies, and doesn't need to be allied in with the Renegade armies. (Unless, of course, you want to take a bunch of guard tanks/artillery.)

I'm not saying this solves all the complaints of chaos players, but it does introduce a huge variety of options. I'd love to see more new/updated core stuff from GW, but until then, IA13 is at least something to tide you over.

      Delete
    13. @ Chris: by that logic no one has a right to complain about anything and at anytime.

also i will be the first to point it out to you if you ever get the urge to complain about something. i'll remind you that you don't have the right to express yourself.....totally not valid on my part but it's not valid on your opinion now....if people want to complain, then they sure as heck will express it.

as Seb12 (and others) says from time to time: if you don't like others complaining then don't read the comments.

      Delete
    14. also i am griping now (fake) that i have to buy IA13...why can't it be free.....waaaah (fake complaint/fake tears)

  5. ive never been super into getting forgeworld stuff, though i do like it a lot, and then theres gw's push to all-plastic making me swear off metal/resin models (i've always preferred plastic, and now that the others are going from citadel i can justifiably shun them).

but this... may just force my hand back to the super glue. depending on price

    1. Forge World resin is a thing of its own. You need to experience it yourself. Don't deprive yourself of resin crack, which is better than plastic crack, in my honest opinion.

      Delete
    2. indeed, ive used it once before, but only a very long time ago (got the tyranid malanthrope and warrior wing kit). the trouble is i find the price a bit steep for myself, and its not one of those things everybody wants to play against either.

  6. Nothing will change for the Chaos players - with a Chaos Knight with a generic WS and I of 3, we still only have something which hits after the important I of 4 and other units still have a good chance of killing our supposed-elite close combat unit if it has a WS of 3 which it probably has as it's probably possessed.

    3. dislike the model, but not as if i don't have 3 chaos knights as is.....so i'll use my own (if i ever have a game again)

    4. Or you know we've been fed the FW sh*trules sandwich for like 15 years now and already know how it will taste.

pretty much every chaos equivalent is worse than the loyalist variant.

      Delete
    5. Our chaos Stormeagle sucks doesn't it, the cheaper one? Same with our cheaper and as good Spartan Assault carrier? I know that our chaos hellhound really suffers from being lower BS.

Decimators are cool and fluffy at worst and are viable units. Blood Slaughterers are fun to use and very good at pushing threat. The chaos titans are just as deadly as their loyalist equivalents.

We are Chaos Space Marines damn you! Stop whimpering like a newly conscripted guardsman and slaughter the loyalist scum with what weapons we have. Our bare hands if need be. Khorne is surely displeased by your malfeasance and cowardice.

      Delete
    6. Ian, I don't disagree with some of your points but half of your examples here are completely impractical for most players (titans, lol), others are still waaaay expensive for the added benefit, the costs I found peg the Chaos Spartan as a whole 10 points less than the loyalist version in the ~300 range (not enough savings to brag about frankly) and other stuff I don't even know what to say. Overall there are very few things from FW that are worth fighting to take, there is still a cost premium and (surprisingly enough) a number of the units you mention can have the same role filled by cheaper units from the core CSM dex.

    7. Never made sense to me that the Possesion makes the vehicle worse...
Is it not the whole point that a Possesed vehicle is more powerfull then a regular one?

Because that WS/BS/Init3 on those is some stupid bullshit.

  7. not a fan of the strange cracked pattern on the carapace. but the rest of it is great. id maybe smooth out the cracks on the shoulders, and then use the standard knight carapace for the middle section, but slice off and attach the "maw" section from the chaos versios carapace too

    ReplyDelete
  8. Gotta agree with some of the above. Not a big fan of adding toothy Gigery-bits to Imperial stuff. Besides, how can it be chaos without chaostrich knees?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I would have rather they did something more interesting for chaos, this just looks lazy as hell. Anyone could chaosify an imperial knight, this doesn't look like anything i'd be willing to shell out a ton of money for, as FW resin is quite costly.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Magaera and Styrix kits, which are just resin replacements for carapace, weapons, and armor plates, only cost about $30 in addition to a standard Knight kit (which is fully included).

No reason to think this won't be similarly priced.

    2. The corruption is just beginning IMO, this is a starting point for more grottiness down the line...

  10. I like this model, it offers a Knight to Chaos players which is great. It has a baseline Chaos look thats easy to customize to any god using bits and a paint scheme.
As for rules, yeah dont expect much. Even FW seems to give Chaos crappy rules. As a Chaos player, you just have to accept that your faction isnt a super competitive one. If winning is your favorite part of the hobby, Chaos isnt for you. But you can still field awesome models in friendly games vs. your friends, or the bros at your flgs. 40k has very little parity, thats just the way it is. It wont stop me from grabbing one of these Knights as soon as its released. The hardest part for me will be deciding how to paint it. Khorne, Tzeentch, or Nurgle? I have no Slaaneshi army. I do have a Noise Marine project laying around somewhere though.. a Noise Knight would be cool..
Man these first world problems are a B.

    1. As I've said many times, Chaos can be a competitive army. I regularly win against Necrons and eldar both. Stop QQing and actually play some different lists until you find one that clicks with your play style. I personally have about 15,000 pts in CSM so I can play plenty of lists and I assure you they're are good ones.

      Delete
    2. I mean this honestly but what are some ones that you use? I have about that many points so I could make it work with whatever you would suggest!

      Delete
    3. Bikes, noise marines, maulerfiends (two or more, by themselves they're underwhelming) same with forgefiends, multiple sixteen man squads of berserkers. Our codex is all about force multiplication. By itself a squad of berserkers gets shot off the table. Bring two or three? They're gonna have to make some harder choices about which to shoot. Especially if your fiends and bikes are already in their faces.

      Delete
    4. That said I can wait till our new book drops. I want decurion formations.

      Delete
    5. Glad to hear you're having good fortune with CSM Ian. But its not really open to interpretation, the CSM codex is absolutely terrible compared to most others. I dont really want to get into spelling it out, points, rules, etc. But if you are beating Eldar and Necrons without cherrypicking Daemons, IA 13, or a Daemonkin formation - Im inclined to say those players must be very nice or very bad.

      Delete
    6. the latter is more likely @ Androkt, Ian likely plays against people mainly newbro's whom don't know how to list build or play properly.

      Delete
    7. Yes @apossthole you're right. I'm citing the viability of my codex based off my games against noobs. Because that makes sense.

      Delete
    8. I didnt mean to suggest thats what youre doing. I just dont see how anything the CSM codex offers is in the same league as Necrons and Eldar. In any case, Im glad you're winning games with CSM cuz it aint easy!

      Delete
    9. My comment was toward Dork Apossthole not you @androkt. Admittedly I don't have many easy wins but the dex is good and still has a lot to offer for those who look past the same thing people have been whining about for four years. It's a fun dex to play and I have a good feeling about our forthcoming dex (whenever that happens).

      Delete
    10. It's OK Ian, Apostle seems to think he knows everything about everyone. Don't let it get to you. I had a very themed Word Bearers army awhile ago. Lots of Cultists, a couple small squads of Chosen and Possessed, and a couple Daemon engines. Heldrake and two Mauler Fiends. Led by an Apostle surrounded by Daemons ( I used Wood Elf Dryads and usually ran them as Plague Bearers ) it didn't get many wins but it was a proper laugh to play. I think as long as you're having fun then it doesn't matter. Although I'm a beer and pretzels player so I tend to not take it too seriously ;)

      Delete
    11. @ Stephen: nope. sorry but you are wrong. i assumed Ian is a Newbro.....i don't care if he is. if he is then get more games in, change up tactics etc...

@ Ian: nice use of ad hominem there mate. but i am no dork.....that'd be a compliment.....and strangely enough i think you hate me....strange way of showing your distaste.

note: Ian is a Newbro compared to me.....so in a way my stating that which i did was 100% accurate.

      Delete
    12. i don't think Ian has played/collected for 22 years.....hence he is a newbro = newblood. (is in no way offensive, if you think/thought it was, i apologize only for your sensitivity, not for the fact i mentioned it)

also if you want me to be offensive keep treating me as a social pariah....

      Delete
    13. You really need to address those personal daemons you have mate.

  11. What would be great is if they just made it so Chaos can safely ally with Imperial Knights. Same rules, but you can buy bits like these to make them look Chaos-y.
