One of our long time sources that likes to make sure we don't stray too far off course has checked in on yesterday's rumor that Space Marines are next for June. Well it was simple, short and sweet what he said, so no going into any long details.

"Space Marines are not after Tau".

Personally I am not going to disagree with these sources. Do I want Eldar sooner rather than later? yes, but none of these rumor sources is changing the time frame of Eldar. Its only Space Marines that are on the stage here.

Hastings word is still canon, our rumor check has an extremely good record. The source of the Space Marine rumor seems to have the credentials, and is a new contact. Will we see Space Marines next? I am here to report what I receive and can dig up, so I will let you decide.

  1. I personally can't wait to see space marines(all of them) playing with balanced dex's too. :-)
But I can wait till after Eldar.

    1. The current marine codex is the most balanced book in the game. It has some strong builds, but no loopholes which can be exploited. Every unit has both it's pros and cons. The entire army has to work in a synergistic way. It's literally the bar against which the entire game balance is measured.

I think that even adding new units to the codex could seriously affect balance. For instance, there was talk in the big leaked list of even more flyers and fortifications for marines, which would perhaps give an unfair range of choice, vis a vis other codexes.

As it stands, the Marine codex is a masterpiece of game design. A lot of people diss Matt Ward for Grey Knights, but the vanilla codex is his magnum opus. Given the current meta, I think it's probably the least in need for an update.

    2. Have you EVER played Space Marines?
These "balance and synergy" are much more appreciated by opponents for sure.
Ask me how much I'd like to use the Legion of Damned or Vanguard Veterans or Techmarines or many others... then think of something like a Thunderfire or Terminator Assault Squad. Yeah balance.
Now It's actually balanced, for the start of 5th edition, but compared to codex like Chaos Space Marines or Dark Angels It needs some more freedom, less weaknesses; I don't want an overpowered codex that's for sure! I'd just like to play fair and at the same level with the opponent without being slapped by some fancy psyker, dumb devices, flying pidgeon or ridiculously cheap AP 2/3 weapons.
That said may it be actually balanced; and I hope it will be released next year to not overcrowd this one and to give room to non-marine players.

    3. Yes, I play White Scars and have played marines in some fashion or other for the past 20 years.

There's a lot of variety within the current codex, scout-heavy armies, outflanking bikes, sternguard lists, Vulcan lists - or any combination thereof. It's amazingly varied and balanced and can produce dozens of different builds. A lot more options than almost every other codex.

Sure there are some redundancies, you mentioned a few of them. But there aren't that many. There are certainly less than even in the most recent 6th edition codices.

I do agree with you that it needs a shake-up soon, but the addition of re-costed storm talons as well as storm ravens has given us a lot to chew on for now.

    4. Welcome to the real world. Just play your army as Space Wolves, CSM or Dark Angels and stop your crying.

At least you have an option. Unlike anyone who plays a Xenos codex. They instead have to rebuy an entire army to fix an issue.

More freedom is great. It should be added.
But not before totally broken codexes are renewed.

    5. Its a question of a few months though, whether its SM then Eldar or Eldar then SM, then its just Orks and Nids *needing* a codex, and since the greenskins got the WD flyers they're at least able to keep up. GW does still understand that half the players are playing power armored armies, that's just reality.

    6. *cough* Sisters *cough*
      *cough* Templars *cough*

Both of which need a propper/new codex before ALL the other codices mentioned.

    7. I would though like to see Space Wolves get some sort of flyer/anti flyer before Orks and Nids (who both have flyers/FMC's).

But hey, SW won't get any love for probably another year or two.

    8. I don't know... I still get the feeling Black Templars will just get folded into the new Marine dex.

    9. Of course Aurgelmir, but I was responding to the Xenos question. It doesn't seem like GW cares about BT or SoB, sad but that's the reality.

    10. Although the space marine codex is balanced it is quite possibly one of the most boring codex's to play (with or against). There is never anything different really and why play space marines when blood angels do the same thing but better (and besides u can always just ally with space marines if u really want that thundercanon or storm talon :/ )

  2. It's "canon," not "cannon."

And no, his words aren't either of those things. He's been wrong before, called on it, refused to own up to it, then played it like he knew about the correct information 8 months later when it became pretty common knowledge. (Here's looking at you, Valkyrie/Vendetta spoiler.)

Still, he's been the closest thing to a sure thing we've seen in some time.

    3. Not only is Mcdoggle obnoxious (by wheezing about how it's canon, not cannon), he then goes on to insult one of the lauded sources of information.

      What a douche.

    4. I don't mind so much only I genuinely think he's got me mistaken with someone else, I've never mentioned Valkyries/Vendettas or any such denials.

    5. Once again I apologize for the misspell.

These are rumors McDoogle. Even if someone was absolute perfection, mistakes can be made. Even my rumor checker has a small mistake in the past. I even make them. Hastings word is very much considered to be the best rumors you can hear.

I dont recall the vendetta issue, but I do know that the entry did not turn out the way it was supposed to.

Lets please make sure we keep this civil. I dislike editing through comment sections.

    6. and for the record.....

I don't know if I misspell that word with typos, or if when I am writing I just forget how to spell it.

Working on the issue. It may be some dark seeded form of madness encroaching upon my consciousness.

Either nobbled or significantly hiked in points.

    1. You seriously want GWS to DESTROY codexes instead of just concentrating on fixing the rest?
GK are hardly the dominating force of 5th.
Still right up there, but there are plenty of choices now.

    2. As a Demonhunters player I agree wholeheartedly. Also I hope for a careful retcon or smoothing out of the dimwitted fluff :\

    3. Yea grey knights are nowhere near as powerful as they were in old eddition. I saw a guy with 3 dreadknights lose to tyranids. Now that shld never happen

    4. Why not? Because Tyranids are supposed to lose? Luck of the dice

  4. I wish I could see only the new "mini-Contemptor" :) only because is described as an RT-era model.

  5. I don't think a Space Marine release next month is unreasonable. GW seems to be ramping up their release schedule, obviously and Space Marines surely won't follow too far behind 6th edition release.
Although, my only concern is vehicles and other releases that will remain out my beloved Dark Angels Codex as well as other Astartes Codexes until they're updated. Something like Death From the Skies would actually be good in such a case.

  6. I'm quite happy about this. The marines codex, and the lists that I play against seem like they're fairing pretty well in 6th. I wouldn't have thought there's any rush from a gaming perspective.

From a business perspective on the other hand, I'm sure GW would love to get a Marine codex out as it guarantees big sales. They're the poster boy army and the big seller too. Maybe they'd save them for a slower month like August or September when even the geekiest of us spend more time outdoors.

And I know this wouldn't affect Eldar necessarily, but as a Space-elf player myself, I'd really quite like a flyer and some dedicated anti-air.

  8. I know this might sound completely ridiculous to ask, but ... exactly how solid is the "Fall Release" information on Eldar? I was under the impression that that was fairly dated info and that the release schedule seemed to be coming quicker than assumed (weren't Tau originally slated for Summer sometime?)

Is there any vague possibility Eldar could be May and Space Marines actually could be June?

I realize there's 'supposed' to be a High Elf release in there as well, though. Any recent word on how that's holding up?

    1. I don't think this is entirely unreasonable. From what I remember, Tau were originally set for June, and Eldar for September. That in mind, Tau having moved forward two months, we could say that Eldar might come out in July, and Space Marines before the end of the year.

    2. I expect an Apocalypse supplement in July.

  9. Who knows with GW, but it seemed like the rumor stream for Eldar was stronger and more specific than the Smurf ones. That said, I don't think GW can wait too much longer before releasing their keystone army.

  12. well , considerong the drop in price for vanilla tacticals , librarians , capitains, razorbacks, devastators , assault squads seen in DA, the price increase for hammerators & vindicators , .. did I miss something?
anyway, the codex needs serious fixing: marines are not competitive any more. They have still some nice builds, but that's all.
Also black templars are not a codex chapter. IMHO including them should also mean including iron hands.
Maybe non-codex abiding chapters should get their own , one codex one for all: BT , IH , SW . Most of their units could simply be obtained trough templates from a basic entry ,and then adding special units, like the horus heresy supplement.
