A Tau release teaser is now up called "Our Ascension a Matter of Time". Tau are definitely here. To top that off, there new pics now floating around and of course I am a little behind on them (thats what happens when I am unplugged for a few hours.)

  1. The tank commander looks like a total dude :p

  2. Heh heh, is that 4 railrifle barrels hanging from the ass of that last flyer barrel.

That may or may not be useful in game. But it looks a little silly.

    1. I think it is the Plasma bomb generator as the bomber doesn’t carry bombs as such but makes them as needed, if the talk is right.

      Delete
    2. The fighter was said to have 'an array of ion weapons' hanging under the back there. The bomber has the missiles on top as well, iirc. So that's probably the ion weapons on the fighter.

      Delete
    3. lol 50/50 choice and i got them the wrong way round. Still not sure of the models yet, if i like them or not. Not sure why the fighter would have the weapons at the back, unless it's going to get chased around a lot. The weapons at the front would have given you a bit more range, Oh well have to wait and see what the rules are.

  3. Not the biggest fan of the teeny weeency head on the Riptide along with the flyers. But holy shit, that broadside is probably my new favorite 40k model.

    1. Agreed on the disproportional Riptide head. The new VX88 is nice but I never liked the single sniper look that GW picked up from the community. Bad part - 60MM Frisbees they stands on. Not going to retro fit 9 VX88.

      Delete
    2. You're not supposed to change bases dude, Pg3 of the BRB states pretty clearly that models are to be used with the bases they came with :E

      Delete
    3. But tournaments may require the retrofit.

      Delete
    4. Magnetize the 40mm to the 60 so its removable like Angron

      Delete
    5. Have to agree if the head is that small on the riptide, it looks really silly. Might have to find a way of making something more in keeping wiht the size of the model. But once i get one and build it, it might look ok. I hate waiting :).

      Delete
    6. why not use a stelthsuit body as the head, looks about the right size for a riptide head

      Delete
    7. They should have used more the idea of a "cockpit" rather tan a "head". In such an enormous suit, the idea of "vehicle" is what naturally comes to mind, you may even think it is imposible for just one tau to move and use the systems of that kind of monster... doesn't look nice, it should have been a vehicle concept, noone believes this is simply an armour for one guy.

  4. That's the best trailer I've seen from GW in a while. Although some of the text seems to have a dark message, as well as the background and the smoke. I just feel like the trailer was way to dark for the Tau, could there be a darker fluff shift?

    1. they've been doing that for a while. "happy and Shiney" tau was a huge bati&switch.

      Delete
    2. or it could be that the tau have realized war isn't all warm and fuzzy and honorable. They realize they should be gritty.
i for one am hoping this means some sort of cc buff for crisis suits, especially in a farsight led army

      Delete
    3. I've noticed that the fluff of Tau has been closer to following chinese and japanese dynasties. If you think about it, most of the emperors wanted to show their nation to be the greatest in the world and have all of the faction coexist in harmony, and by harmony, it was actually brutal control and borderline genocide. That's not too far from what the tau do in the fluff, which is fitting for the 40k universe. And the messages were also the same: "be absorbed, or be destroyed and quit wasting our time."

      Delete
    4. that actually is a really good way of looking at it. I never would have thought about it that way. With each "new" generation/commander, tau continue to evolve their doctrine of war.

    5. Yeah they switched the light Off!

    6. I don't think it's a change at all. Even in the current codex there's mention of trying to bring the Orks into the Greater Good, and eventually abandoning the idea. My impression was never that they wanted what was best for them, they're simply giving them the "join us or die" option. One way or the other, the Greater Good will prevail (or, "Our Conquest is Inevitable").

  5. Have to say, I totally hated the flyers at first but they've grown on me; especially with the removal of those ... bar .. strut ... girder .. things ..

Pathfinders look cool and I'm excited to read about the drones and weapons.

One thing though - can anyone spot ANY changes AT ALL to the crisis suit? it looks ever ever ever so slightly different ... but I'm thinking maybe GW have just posed it well?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I think they just posed it well. Ankles still look bad.

      Delete
    2. Yeah - looks the same, just carefully posed. Too bad, because the arms and legs badly needed a little more variation. I'll just sob into the arms of my three Riptides...

      Delete
    3. I agree with the flyers, really grown on me. I would do the same remove those bar thingys. I think the Crisis Suit has more of a "neck", basically just a little ball, at least as far as I can see.

      Delete
    4. Those bar strut girder things are for the Riptide. He can reach up and hang onto it when he needs to move faster ;)

      Delete
    5. Hope that is in the rules :)

      Delete
    6. IMO the 'bars' on the flyers are the only detail that differentiates them from a generic World War II plane. :)

I hated the flyers at first but now i like them a little more, just because of the 'bars'..

  6. Am I the only person who thinks they've turned the tau into 40k borg with that trailer

    1. Riptide with magnets for the win!

      Delete
    2. No. There is nothing, anywhere, that indicates the Riptide gets a railcannon. I think people are just hoping so badly that it will have one, that they're seeing things that don't exist.

      Delete
    3. Yeah, from what it seems like, the railcannon is going to be Hammerhead exclusive.

      Delete
    4. The picture above is the broadside. No picture of the Riptide attached.

      Delete
    5. The riptide railcannon again?

As AT just mentioned, there is NO RUMOR OR PICTURE anywhere indicating the riptide has a railcannon.

There are a lot of people who have mis-identified the ion accelerator as one, which is very easy to do (so don't feel bad).

So, if there is an railcannon, that will be great - but there are no current sources giving this information - only hopeful desires...

  14. Maybe the Crisis suits will be upgraded to look like Farsight later, given that he is supposed to wear XV8 armour and all. Just a thought, what do you guys think?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Some of the blurry pictures of the WD page indicate that it is finecast, or at least a finecast upgrade.

If it is an upgrade, it would be an extensive one, as the body itself seems a bit different, and the legs are different from the original Crisis plastic kit.

      Delete
    2. If this is the case, I wouldn't imagine they'd be showcasing the old suits when they plan to revamp them in the near future.

I would imagine we'll see a Helbrute box before redesigned crisis suits :S

  15. The closer the potos the less i like the models. The overall shape of the broadside looked good, but seeing it in detail i feel like (as MOST of GW work)they forgot to stop adding things. I think the problema is always the same: good design, but too much big guns, way big and too much. The flyers are nice... but the pop up turret is ridiculous, and the bars are superfluous. The broadside is nice, but the weapon is way intrincated, convoluted and what is the point of that BIG Golden button??? I hate to say, i really love the overall product but it is always just a feeling that they don't know when to stp to add stupid gadgets that finally destroy the design. The other flyer, why FOUR barrels? It is exactly crossing the border for few inches, cross the border between smooth lines and tacky design. And the crisis just needed new heads, simply adding some FW designed heads could have been great. I got three suits done simply swaping heads with fw ones and they look WAY better. Anyway I really like the look of the commander in the cockpit, i feel that Tau needed this kind of agressive look.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm not a fan of Tau (not really a Greater Good kind of guy) but I like how the new models look. They're sleek and fit what I've seen of the Tau but they look shiny and new at the same time (I guess that's because try are shiny and new). Hopefully those rail guns won't do too much damage to my beloved Daemons... Might have to cry otherwise.

  17. I have to say I'm rather afraid of something. Considering that we haven't seen a picture of the codex cover yet and the fact that this white dwarf will be bigger then the usual one. You guys don't suppose that they're just keeping the old dex and having newer rules and stats in the white dwarf like what they did with the flyers and Chaos Daemons last year?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nooo....someone would have hinted at that, and there's been nothing. It's going to be a full codex.

    2. No chance. Lots of info to update, new units and $50 a pop to gain on each codex. Not that there's anything wrong with that

      Its a "huge" 400th WD
So the jubile Thing Could be a WD dex Update???

    5. I looked at my old Dex and it only has 63 page, the new Dark Angels Dex had 105. Considering this is supposed to be 173pages, it seems plausible unfortunately. I just don't know what they could fill it with.

On the other hand people want a new tau Dex, BAD. If they were to print it it would definitely sell, and these same people would be buying the white dwarf as well. I hope the extra is just a history of White Dwarf or something.

Natfka, can we get some consensus on this?

      Delete
    6. I think you're misunderstanding the previous rumour. The 173 pages is the White Dwarf this month. I'd bet on the Codex being the exact same length as the previous 3 6th ed Codexes.

      Delete
    7. I think you're misunderstanding the previous comments, they weren't talking about the codex being longer than usual, they were talking about WD being longer due to the inclusion of a codex.

      Delete
    8. Upon closer analysis, you appear to be correct. I couldn't exactly follow the train of thought in the comment thread.

  18. I am really curious about what is under that fighters wings. I don't see four Rail Rifles at their current S6 being an anti aircraft weapon, or that burst cannon at S5, at least not for the Storm Ravens, or Valkyries AV12 that everyone is worried about. i feel like whatever is under those wings will be the deciding factor to see if we have a stud or a dud (*cough* Dark Angel *cough*) on our hands.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think that S6 IS what they want to call anti-air. That way the birds will stay in the sky longer as the battle wages on the ground below.

      Delete
    2. If every flyer rolls out armed with Lascannons and Meltas then the whole concept of dogfighting would turn into who hits who first. The only reason the Dark Angels flyers seem so bad right not is not because they're actually bad but because of how ridiculously good Vendettas are right now.

      Delete
    3. Doesn't anyone ever consider using Flyers for something OTHER than against other flyers? Many of the so called duds are great against infantry or other rolls in the game. Think outside the box.

      Delete
    4. Agreed, Matt. The question: what will make Vendettas any less badass?

      Delete
    5. Hell yes Harley! Just look at the stats fir the Eldar Phoenix Bomber. Expensive? Yes. But it will fuck MEQs all day long.

      Delete
    6. I just feel like there is no counter punch for the flyers... and you know maybe that is where the new broadsides will come in,but if your going to name it a fighter, keep it that way way. That is why they are giving us both a bomber and a fighter.
I guess I am just a bit bitter, I have friends who take two Vendettas/Storm Ravens and start wrecking everything I have, and without a viable skyfire alternative (which again, could be the broadsides) I get stuck SOL.

      Delete
    7. The German translates to "Hunter" not Fighter, but I'm not sure if they are doing a direct translation or not. As a long time SoB player, I feel your pain about not having a great counter punch against flyers. Until that times comes though when you do, Icarus Lascannons and an allied Vendetta of your own are not a bad choice. In fact, a cheap Command HQ and Vet squad of Guardsmen to unlock that Vendetta are both fluffy and very good assets toward any army, especially Tau.

      Delete
    8. Harley's got the right idea: IG will ally with just about anyone, so there's no reason not to try to work a Vendetta full of Vets loaded up with Flamers & a Primaris Psyker in it. It's been used against me, and it's pretty solid, and dirt cheap as allies go...

      Delete
    9. ...work that into a list, I meant to say...

      Delete
    10. That's pretty killer. The only real argument I have is that I prefer to play pure tau. But then again if I want to be competitive who knows I might just have to move that way.

Dang it new codex get here quicker.

      Delete
    11. Harley, "Jäger" is actually the direct German translation for fighter aircraft (despite meaning also "hunter").

  21. "Shoot the suits in the ankles! They'll snap off & topple over, and then we can assault them!!!"

    LOL!

Seriously, tho, it is about time. And if the rumors are true about Broadsides being S8 AP1 w/ Skyfire & a 2+ Save, I fear for my Heldrakes. Gotta work some faster elements into my CSM lists to get across the table ang get those Broadsides in close combat. Time to invest in some Plague Drones, methinks...

And, yeah, I never had a problem with the look of the Tau flyers from the previous pics, but these pics, wow, looks even better. Looks very (sea creature) ray-like, at least to me...

Fortunately for my bank account, I'm committed to CSMs & a future with Daemons, but there may be a cheap HQ, Troops & some Broadside allies in that future...

Gotta say, adding allies in 6th Edition was a smart move on GW's part. They're like a gateway drug: You start out buying just a few models to make an effective allied choice, and before you know it - BAM! - you've got enough for a 1,500 point game, so why stop there? Especially when there's a market for healthy kidneys, and most of us have a pair & can spare one... LOL!!! :-)

Also, note: 7 months & 4 codexes + 2 army books... Bodes well for Eldar to come out sooner than I'd expected...

  23. Yeah, now I know the trick! A lot of rumours last year saying someone spotted Tau vehicles already boxed... someone in GW says that they are nice but not exactly...awesome. So, before showing them, let's make the WORST mini ever and they'll look better. So they did Stormraven, and stormtalon, demons... well, the list is endless in last year.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I can't decide whether I like the new Tau stuff or hate it. Either way, I'm very keen to see the models in-store - especially the aircraft. I can't see myself using those support bars if I buy one, but the model looks quite nice.
