Campaign weekend "Vidar's Fate" is coming to Warhammer World, and take a look a tthe advertisement for it. The event itself is pic on the left for June 22nd and 23rd, and clearly shows artwork for Genestealer Cults. The initial observation is that Games Workshop is not avoiding the use of artwork showing Genestealer cults, and even perhaps some of the story behind them.

If this is the case, perhaps when Tyranids get developed more we will see the return of Genestealer Cults and some sort of allies for the tyranids. There are also rumors of an allies supplement.

A thanks to Flynn and Daniel (from http://paintstationforge.blogspot.co.uk/)  for the pics.

  1. That would be nothing short of awesome. It would definitely make me want to start collecting a Tyranid force. :D

  2. It would be my only excuse to buy a tyranid army... i really hate the look of "animal like" beasts that suposedly evolve their hands to look like a gun... why??????? why a biogun has to look as if they were WIELDING human guns??? it is stupid, just like a lot of things in GW, it takes out realism. So if there were cults, I would include them for ranged attack and avoid EVERY tyranid unit that wears guns that look as if they are being wielded :)

    1. Games Workshop...Realism...

      I'm missing something here

    2. Kinda barking up the wrong tree lol

    3. Cuz a futuristic scfi-fi wargame just SCREAMS realism... Righttttt (Dr. Evil voice).

    4. What would u prefer nid ranged weapons look like?

    5. I though most recent fluff said the 'guns' were symbiotic organisms in their own right, hence most of them have eyes and hence the gaunts/whatever have to 'carry' them. And since they are symbiotically linked they've developed closer and closer to each other so now they're 'practically' one organism.

    6. Jon, you are correct.

Kristoffer, maybe he would rather other body parts shoot at the enemy... O_O

    7. You are not worthy rickyard. I love the idea of my guants lugging their flesh borers into range and pointing it in the right direction, the living weapon firing at the opportune moment and doing the rest of the work. The weapons grow their own living ammunition that has its own job to do upon impact, ummmmm awesome.. You obviously missed the boat and should limit yourself to something boring like guard.

    8. What I mean is that the design of the weapon is so much similar to an actual gun, it looks completely unnatural... i mean, if you are a tyranid, who doesn't resembles a human in no way, why the being that evolves from the same brood to fire like a weapon has to have exactly the same components of a gun????? Why it has to have a trigger? a barrel?? a grip?? Isn't it a living being??? isn't it connected to its termagaunt anyway??? Aren't we clever enough to see a protuberance in front of an arm and think this COULD be simply the hole that the termagaunt uses for throwing lethal charges? do we need the gun to LOOK LIKE A REAL GUN because we got no imagination??? Why tyranid warriors do need a grip to use a sword that it is already made of bone? Why you don't simply, SMOOTHLY and in a BIOLOGICAL way don't make a transition between the arm and the sword so it doesn't seem to be an alien that has found a sword? And to people that says that to have models REALISTIC or not is due to the theme of the army... you are COMPLETELY wrong, even in space fantasy, or even in middle earth, what you have to achieve to make a world credible is EXACTLY the contrary: to make details BELIEVABLE, to make everything to have COHERENCE... Wonder if you'd see Lord of the Rings and the elves had plastic shields... or if the rohirrim were using powder guns... the DETAILS being acurate and realistic, although in a fantastical environment, is exactly what is needed. If you'd see winged mûmakils, you'd say: that's WRONG... but aren't we talking about fantasy?? then allow it!, allow elves with motorcycles or Sauron wearing a Jean pul Gaultier design. The difference between Star Wars and teenage mutant ninja turtles is precisely this: the ability to make CREDIBLE science fiction or fantasy. I don't know if i have made myself clear, please, someone who understands me, help! :)

    1. Well, those are definately genestealer hybrids. For free. While that may be campaign specific, the idea that any army could include a unit does seem to support a testi g platform for an allies supplement or codex

  4. It would be pretty awesome if they retconned Zoats back in as allies as well. Also other slave races might be interesting if they decided to resurrect that idea. But gene stealer cults would be awesome.

  5. The genestealer cult is my favourite 40K army, so I'd love to see them come back. It would make me regular player of the game again. I also wholeheartedly support Jagged Red Lines' call for the return of the cult limousines!

  6. look who just got the Quad Gun unlocked for use! Glad I kept my Dark Vengeance Chaos Cultists now. Lets hope these eventually end up in a new Codex

  7. Don't forget, you can do genestealer cults NOW. The only thing stopping you is if you want to constantly play strangers. All I'm doing is breaking the broodlord out of the genestealer squad, calling him an HQ and building 500 points of stealers without any more broodlords. Add them to guard as an ally (and don't tell me "you can't the rules state..." IT'S YOUR GAME) and robert is your father's brother.

My scheme is for using the sergeant's cc weapons to represent hybrids.

Never think that you can't do an army, just find a way eg: Squats? - Marines with a bunch of scouts as the main force. People will jump up and down about "but it isn't tournament optomised"... who cares. Its fun. Do it.

    1. Totaly agree with this. WAs something I was planning to do but have Orks and Chaos on the list first.

    2. I plan to use this same method to get 5 chosen on juggernauts. Just pay the same price per as the CSM Lord and its more than balanced, the unit is so expensive its not even funny.

  8. Maybe they're just going to make Genestealer Cultists a Tyranid unit like Chaos Space Marines have Chaos Cultists.

    1. I hope not. I don't actually think that a cult army should ally with nids. By the time the hive fleet gets there the cult should according to old fluff just drop weapons and walk into the hive with chants of all hail the alien saviours....
Though I guess I wouldn;t be that against them changing it a little.

  10. This would be oh so very sick if it is more than just rules for one campaign.

But The Pirate Viking is right. You shouldn't let GW tell you when you can have your cult force. I mean, it's convenient when they provide you the rules and models, but all you need is a little creativity to create the models for an existing list. I've heard of people repping cults using all manner of codexes, from eldar to chaos.

There are even some folks on Warpshadow.com who have used the existing Tyranid codex for their cult army, with things like termagants as cultists and tervigons as limos. I think in that list a trygon was repped by an aliens-style Heavy Lifter, and mycetic spores were repped by these phenomenal tunneling transport models.

  11. I'd love to dig out my old genestealer cult once more. It'd also give me a reason to finally paint that boatload of 'stealers that came with Space Hulk.

  12. What, nobody's frothing at the mouth for that tidbit on the right, KILL TEAM?!

Well, I am! One of my favorite variants.

  13. Awesome, maybe they'll bring back the old-skool matter -> energy conversion beamer rather than the odd thing we have today!

  14. Codex: Allies would fit nicely in this picture. Not only would it be the perfect army book for Kill-Team, having Genestealer Cults in there would be a blast.

The only thing is, the shadow of Apocalypse Redux looming over everything.

Then again, there is the completely wacky idea I just had, concerning the "mystery box". Call it Kill-Team or whatever, but have it be a 40K skirmish game into which Necromunda would be merged. Instead of armies you would have "gangs", but there you go. Some of the "gangs" would be established 40K armies, while others would be all these myriad factions and aliens, from Dark Mechanicus to the Hrud.

  15. NATFKA. Not sure if anyone has pointed this out for you, but further speculation of the Genestealer cult is in one one of your gamesday pics from last year found on this page of your own blog

  16. An Allies supplement would be sick, just some idea that occurred to me:

    Tyranids: Genestealer Cults
    Eldar: Corsairs, Harlequin troupes, Exodites
Tau: Another subrace(s), humans in the Tau empire
Imperium: Mechanicus, Arbites, Inquisition (outside of the grey shites)
    Chaos: Traitor Guard

No idea about Orks or Necrons, and yes I know that FW have done traitor guard and corsairs. Just some things that would be well cool in a supplement!
