The next White Dwarf is only a couple days out now, and wow, are the images flooding in. Remember to pick it up to get all the images in magazine. Of course these are almost everywhere now, so take a look.

If you look closely, you can see that there are Kroot and Vespid models.

  2. yep, after all these years seems almost surreal that only a few days divide the veteran tau players from this long awaited tome.

    1. The most important thing in this moment are the rules. If this army had good rules it could be the best of all, taking into account the aesthetics and the game.
Sorry, my english is not perfect! Xd

  3. yay now we can FINALLY put to rest rummors that the riptide can take railcannons, that was getting annoying

    1. Actually, I still don't see any special reason to think that.

More importantly, why would you find it "annoying"?!?

  4. We finally know the kroot get to stay!

    1. Noticed that, too. Hopefully Vespids will be useful.

...or not: I'm already going to be spending a fortune.

    2. I'm still reserving judgement on that. They could just be in the pics as a "Tau can ally with theses guy" thing.
Page 27 of the wd (4 pics at top and one bottom right) point 1 talks about the taus alien allies.

    3. This is what I'm a bit disappointed by. The big rumor for the longest time was more races conquered by the Tau, and now not even one new unit to the already aligned races.

Back when the Tau first showed up people couldn't wait to see who else would join the the greater good. Squats would have been cool to have come back, but I think if they would have at least added to the two existing races a unit, that it would have increased not only interest in those already in use being used more but also added to the already set theme of the army as a whole and the greater good fluff.

  5. Oof, those prices. I'll probably pick up the codex because I want to keep up to date with the latest armies, but I'm glad that I'm not making or updating a tau army.

    1. Also, the more I look at these the more I love the crisis suits and their variants, but the pathfinders and the fire warriors just look... doofy to me. A little too top heavy methinks.

  6. Anyone else notice the Devilfish in the Farsight picture has a different top on it than the old one?

    1. It's probably the drone from the new Pathfinder box. :]

    2. yep, we had decided the new drone goes in the top

    3. It says above that the Recon drone can fit onto the vehicle hatch

  7. Shame the vespids aren't going plastic, otherwise awesome collection of releases!!!

  8. Is it just me, or is it now wicked obvious that farsight's sword is of Necron origin? (it looks like a kopesh)

    1. I actually thought it looked LESS necron now :P

    2. It looks far more Tau now, which is odd to me. The power pack at the base, combined with a general falchion look is more or less what I would expect a Tau power sword to look like. Kinda wish they had kept the old blade on the new model.

  9. one of the pictures says we have plenty of choice for war gear. we still only have 2 troop choices (and fire warriors likely still don't get any kind of support weapons. also I don't like or use kroot, or pulse carbines, so really I have/use 1 choice, with one set up), unless GW got really good at hiding information that is not to be released until the codex comes out.

  10. Can't wait to see the army list entry for the riptide.

  11. Would love it if pathfinders were a troop choice, maybe have it as an option with the Nightstrider character, or Fire Warriors being 1+ units

  12. Vespid are still in the codex?

  13. wow i feel dumb buying pathfinders in the past. I'm getting this new pack despite the fact that I have 9 already, best change I can see so far. Worst change is the lack of railguns (possibly) I'm starting to really freak out about my battles against those av14 vehicles, the hammerhead just doesn't cut it.

    1. Piranhas with fusion blasters and or a suicide crisis suit team with fusion blasters. Done.

    2. My old pathfinders are going to get make shift jump packs and use vespid rules. I hate the way the bugs look and just buy new pathfinders. For av14, looks like overcharged ion guns are you're next best bet besides fusion blasters

      Delete
    3. @Brandon suicide crisis suit squads are expensive and unreliable, and piranhas are easy to kill. There need to be other solutions

      Delete
    4. I often use a 6 men stealth suit team with 2 fusion blasters, from rinos to land raiders the trick still works; no matter if they walk to the vehicles or deep strike.

      Delete
    5. 106 pts for a two-man crisis team with targeting arrays and TL fusion blasters is not expensive, especially if you're throwing it at a 200+ pt land raider.

    6. You have to get within 6 inches. That is difficult

  14. I've honestly never really liked the aesthetic and lore of Tau, but I can't help but get this urge to do a list with Farsight and his crew if the Codex turns out to be good.

  15. I'm really please with the fact that drones seem to be playing a stronger role now. Also, is it just me, or do the gun drones look a little different?

  17. Looking forward to getting my Vespid and Skyray back out on the tables. Oh, and new stuff too!

  18. 3 things I have noticed in particular. The Fusion Guns under the Riptides shield generator, possible mulit-melta equivalent? And I cant wait to find out what the pathfinder characters eyepiece does in game terms. and the Pulse accelerator drone, this may be the extended range thingy.

    1. From what was described in WD, his eyepiece is a "structural analyzer", which allows him to pick out the weak points in enemy armor, so two things have been speculated: -1 to the AV of an enemy vehicle, or -1 toughness of an enemy non-vehicle.

  19. Am I the only one who feel a little underwhelmed by the lack of new units? I mean in our last codex we got 2 new entries (Pirahna and Skyray). And this time we are only getting a fighter and the riptide. I mean it's nice that we are getting some commanders to actually hopefully add to our nonexistent list of usable ones (yes this is an opinion, and I don't care about yours). But from the looks now, it seems like we are not getting any more depth of choice. I mean I could be wrong and they make all the units more viable.

    1. We also got sniper drones, vespid, shadowsun, aunva last time. Technically, you could consider the flyers two new units, the broadsides and pathfinders have new models and seem to function much differently than before (so they're like new units) and then all the new drones and HQ/SC models. Yeah, it's a little less than I was hoping for, but I'm happy with it.

      Delete
    2. I'm certain that all the new rules will wildly vary what already exists. But 7+ years for just the flyer and riptide? On top of that no extra alien race, even though the 6th BRB listed a handful of new names of races who fight alongside the Tau now. This part is what probably disappoints me the most. I just get the feeling that Tau should be getting a little more than what they are.
