Did you see also the flyers special bundles... on the GW page?

    1. Not sure exactly how special they are when there is absolutely no incentive over buying them individual. ><
If anything, it saves them money on packaging. lol

    2. Also worth the price or not. It is standard if you own Templars or SM.

    3. I always get mad when I see stupid bundles like that ...

    4. They must think we have more money than sense and yes perhaps we do considering but that tactic is pushing it a bit too far..

    5. If you think about it...that someone at GW is spending Time doing the pics and what Not for These bundels...

      Way to waste resources

If they at least gave you a Poster (buying guid) or some other worthless advertiseing stuff :/

      Delete
    6. They are so called "one click bundles" Meaning they are just a quicker way of ordering those models, they did a few of those for other things some weeks ago too. Just there to save time when ordering I think.

    7. So even more compulsive buying... I don't understand.

    8. So Kids can Talk there mum into buying quik? -.-

    9. I just don't get it... how painful is to actually click TWICE on an icon, or modify a number from 1 to 2 in the order cart? Bundles are meant to be cheaper then buying components separately to make sense at all... not to mention that these bundles not only cost the same as the components, but there is also that hilarious GW shipping cost on top because they are GW-only. So why would this stop me from ordering the components at -20% from an independent reseller with free shipping? Think, GW, think...

    1. Least it doesn't effect us if our namesakes have anything to do with it. ^^

Still think it is quite harsh and underhanded though making BT and SM pay £20 for stormraven rules when it could of just been added in a WD like the others.

      Delete
    2. Dud its cheaper than buying a BA dex.

      But Ofc youre right.
Still i asume ist wont be allowed in tournament Play. Its only in english.

      Delete
    3. Its not actually, its exactly the same price as a BA dex. Glad you pointed that out though.

      Delete
    4. Why shouldn't it be allowed in tournament play? They are official rules. And I have heard a lot of people say that the storm raven did have a WD entry for Vanilla when it came out also, but that it was never made "chapter approved" or something.

For me this is a great product, I get easy access rules for my flyers (and I play a few of those armies), so not to have to FAQ jump and WD browse for the rules is nice.

Only thing I agree with is that I think the last 3 codices without flyers or FMCs should have had one entry each and models released.

      Delete
    5. I also have my official rules from my OFICIALLY UPDATED IG Codex to use my valkyries. I don't want to pay for an update to them, it should be free: just like the content we USED to have free in the webpage when IT WASN'T a catalogue: What is going to be next? We had tons of painting guides... until they wanted to sell them, then dissapeared from the web, we had model makers advices... until they wanted to sell them, now we HAD updates... until they sell them.

    1. On the bright side this would indicate that all bets are off in terms of rule and point changes...

      Delete
    2. I'd been of the mindset that rules and point changes were pretty much the whole point of the book, but a lot of people haven't necessarily though that too.

      Delete
    3. Source please for Force Org change?

      Delete
    4. I'm not going to use the GW product page as a source on whether or not the SR is now a heavy instead of a fast attack. Moving it to HS would be a terrible idea, as that would leave interceptors in FA... and that's it. TBH, I do have a personal bias against this, as it would completely screw my adepticon TT team since 3 of the four of us have a SR and a psyfledread.

      Delete
    5. I'd absolutely use the product page as a source, I'm sure it wasn't a coding error, and it didn't find it's own way there. Plus it's HS for all other Chapters.

      Delete
    6. and by other chapters, you mean BA, since that's the only one we KNOW has it as a heavy support. Since the flyer supplement hasn't been released yet, no one knows where it fits into the FOC for C:SM and BTs. That's not even a sound argument anyways, since GKs have dreadnoughts in heavy support while every other army has it in the elite slot. There's only two units in GK FA slots to begin with, moving it out makes no sense. How are you sure it isn't a coding error? It sounds like a fairly easy mistake to make using your argument of "it's HS for all other chapters."

      Delete
    7. You should check the SM Heavy Support web page too.

      Delete
    8. The errata has been released, and nowhere does it mention moving the SR to heavy support, nor does it say to reference "Death from Above" for anything. I think it's safe to say it remains a fast attack choice.

Its just a Option like FW stuff.

Looks like its all pure Old stuff. No mention of what the New stuff is. So just fluff? Come on GW! The WD was 8,-€ and now its 26,-€ to Play my 1 Flyer -.-

The Klick bundels are stupid as hell. Save 0,00 $
One must be retarded to fall for the GW only BS. As if i cant BuY from retailers multibale items!!!

GW Must be desperat to sell those Flyers.

So when did a comment section become a venue for journalism. Not to mention that getting some life into an article by putting some excitement or personal bits into an article are more than expected in the world of journalism.

    4. In my opinion, the article explains what is going on, perfect: and then people do critisize or ot what is going on. If the person that makes the explanation includes his persona opinion in the foregoing comments... why should I expect that the information given is accurate or it has been filled with that excitement you mention? In fact, what i look for in this web is precisely a different vision from the one of the company... not a second partner ad. Delete
    4. Seriously?
Just because some people can't afford to buy an over priced book that they shouldn't even need, you're basically gonna kick them out? I don't know about any one else, but I wouldn't be going back there.
I fully intend on downloading the PDF, you know why? Because I'm not prepared to fork out $40 so I can use two pages.

      Delete
    5. I highly doubt anyone cares about playing you with an attitude like that, Dylan.

Not to mention I guarantee every piece of information and rule change that is pertinent to the game will be transcribed and discussed online, falling into the bracket of fair use. Considering how useless this book is shaping up to be, and the fact that the actual rule changes are already free in PDFs, I don't get what you have against the op.

How mad are you going to be when GW updates their own FAQ's to reflect changes in this book after you shell out the $33? Everyone really thinks they will leave this English only? It's a money grab, rest of the world will get it for free in FAQs!

      Delete
    6. Because you can't afford something doesn't mean you have the right to steal it off line, and unless you need it right away these books fit in a army transport case, and time = outdated/ obsolete for all of GW and any other game companies rule books, and maybe your game groups are dont mind theft but the groups I play with do and the stores I go to dont allow pirated material when they have it on the shelf for sale, and anyone who is going to steal this or doesn't care is hurting the hobby more then GW is and making the honest gamers pay more, if you don't need this book then don't buy it that simple

      Delete
    7. How can someone afford a stormraven, but not afford the book with its rules? Sure, this might be a money grab by GW, but they produce a hobby, not a necessity. Complaining about GW wanting a lot of money for a some rules isn't going to get you anywhere because GW doesn't care.

While knowing the rules because you read about them on some blog or forum might work with friends, many people will want to see the rules if its an army they don't play or have the books for. Yes, all of the updated information for flyers is already in the FAQs, but the SR for C:SM and BTs will not be. If people playing those armies want to use the SR in events, they might have to have a physical copy.

Remember, downloading a rule book off the internet isn't just taking money from GW, it's also taking money from the game store that many people go to play. So if you play in game stores, be courteous to your game store owner and buy the book, because lets be honest here, downloading the book is going to hurt them worse than it's going to hurt GW.

      Delete
    8. But if you buy a rulebook, what it is considered to be a definitive one, noone will tell you that in a couple of months it will not be completely "perfect"... when you buy a codex, you hope it is "good" till the next codex arrives, and if in the meantime there's a core rulebook change, you hope for free updates. To make you pay for unwanted changes is BAD.

      Delete
    9. Being a direct only product kinda takes away from the argument that you're taking money away from the LGS... Just sayin...

      Delete
    10. And Dylan, they DO make you need this book by lefting the ones you OWN and you have PAID useless.

      Delete
    11. It literally baffles me how many people think stealing is ok.

      Delete
    12. I don't know about your flgs, but mine can order direct only stuff for me.

      Delete
    13. I just ordered direct only shoulder pads from my flgs and now I have them, so yes stores can order this book, and iirc the two chapter approved books they released in 3rd/4th were $25-$30 and no one got into a huff storm then and all the material in them were in white dwarfs or gasp FAQ updates, and all you people whining about multiple books is such a hassle, in order to use any marine book back then besides basic you had to have the basic one as well, same with codex craftworld for eldar and codex Armageddon for SM/ORKS/IG and codex catachens for IG this flier book is NOTHING new when it comes to compendium releases/multi army books

      Delete
    14. It IS different because when you use an Armageddon army you already know that you are going to need the basic IG one, exactly the same as when you need the codexes you mention (vanilla, eldar...), but now I need a second book to play with the basic one, my basic one is incomplete, and if it is a matter of a couple of changes, should be an update. With this new compilation your armaggedon could even need three books... great way to make you pay more for the same.

    15. How can someone Claim its Not ok to Steale from a Company like GW?????

GW Steals from their customers all the Time!
How can they Claim a Book has ALL the rules (BRB) and then sell a compendium and dex for the Rest of the rules? Remeber when rules came with the Models?
Anybody buying Full of typos, Bad worded, dexes with lame rewright rules of the Old dex, is Not supporting the Hobby!!! Youre letting GW get away with putting no effort in a dex & the Hobby!!!! Youre supporting the Stockholders & Not the Players!

GW is Not supporting retailers and cutting them Out from the compendium! If they sell it its Without Profit for them.

GW is Not supporting 50% of their customers that are non english speaking

GW is chargeing Players extra for rules that Used to be Free! GW Stores gave Out Copys of dakka Jet & talon rules for Free.

If you think its Stealing to Not Support someone that does a Poor Job, gives a f... about Players & customers & retailers, is greedy for Money so much that they will Ruin the Game just to make a quik Buck. (what els is it if you change the rules to make flying-smurfs the New Cron-Air) you must be the most desperat Fanboy or a stockholder!

    1. 1- It is english only, the problems in other countries when using "one" official version or the other will exist.
      2- It is expensive
3- It is a way of paying for stuff that until now, it's been free DLC as an update.
4- It is another book that you should be carrying when playing
5- Some of the stats where in white dwarf, some armies did have their stats there and paid X, now some others have to pay three times this price to get the same.
5- It is only a compilation: no new stuff when we wanted something new related to flyers, that are breaking the game.
6- You can't "see" the contents in your local shop as it is mail only.
7- Mail only goes against local stores that are not GW.
8- it is a bad precedent, more things could be coming this way and it doesn't look good to sell smoke.

    2. Actually, Wolves getting the Leman Russ Exterminator BACK would be a good idea. Since the Exterminator AC is twin-linked, against flyers it's the equivalent of BS2 instead of BS1. Sure, it's no Aegis Quad Gun of Doom, but would compensate nicely for their lack of flyers.

  22. I'll probably be picking this up. I'd like to use the Storm Raven and Storm Talon together and it will be helpful to have the rules altogether in one place. A little annoyed my Dark Angels won't be getting either but I guess that's my allies sorted out.
I'm wondering if this book will actually have anything interesting rules wise for my Ravenwing Jet fighters though.

Bundles continue to underwhelm me. I can see where GW are coming from with these and I'm not expecting anything as extreme as 3 for 2 but a little saving would probably insensitive me to actually add some of these to my cart. I would have though some group savings here and there would encourage a lot of people to building bigger armies and spend more money in the long run.

    1. To have the rules altoghether in one place would be to have the rules JUST in the codex, and print the updates you need.

    2. Discount free bundles are a joke and something I believe will hurt GW in the long run.

Instead of perusing the GW store where a person might wind up spontaneously adding something more to their cart...now said user will (potentially) only need to go to one spot (page) to get what they are after.

Not to mention the amount of user browsing data GW will now lose.

I'm starting to wonder who or what is making these horrible marketing decisions.

      Delete
    3. Ah, that's a good point about people not browsing the site to find something and making impulse buys along the way.

As for print outs of updates, that's probably the more rational course of action but loose papers would bug the hell out of me and be a big peeve. A binder for them would be another option, but it would have to be a real nice slim binder for me.

  25. IT IS OUR FAULT... we SHOULD be more demanding specially taking into account the prices, it is a HIGH END price for a mediocre product. We shouldn't be giving away our money to this company no matter the quality of the product or the contents. This behavior is only detrimental to the quality of what they'll do in the future, it's a shame for them and perhaps for us to buy it. This should be FREE content, you didn't do a nice planing on the effects of some rules in your actual rules, so you should change them for free, it is easy to understand. If you change a whole codex, I can understand you pay to own the latest rules, but when you make some minor modifications, you EVEN update the codexes and you even publish that rules in WD, to make a compilation for THIS price instead of being a free DLC is a hoax. And by the way... what do we do non-english customers arpound the world???? Did they want their earning margin so big that even didn't bother to translate it???? Again: GW getting WORSE with every decision. Now what do we do with our Valkyries? they are usable or don't? And the spacebrick... now suddenly is for EVERY space marine army... come on what a way to fool people! They of course didn't sell them good because IT WAS UGLY, and they want to open markets. Anyway it is nonsense to go to play a game and having to carry more books. Some say it is nice to have all the rules in one book... it is nonsense if you think that you should only carry the CODEX, that's all!! Every other thing that is not in the codex, should be free to download, so you print it, fold it, and place it inside, that's all.

  28. Anyone taken a look at the new GW FaQ's? Most flyers (if not all), featured in DFTS actually lose rules now. Deep striking flyers are now gone. Vendettas look as to have lost Scout on top.

    1. FAQ update was as useless as this whole book. Who tried to use deep-strike with their flyers anyways?

  29. Ork FAQ =
    "White Dwarf June 2012 (WD390)
Updated rules for the Ork Dakkajet, Burna-bommer and Blitzabommer can be found in the Death From the Skies compendium."

So you were ok with releasing the rules for the models in WD, then shortly there after (a week or so?) you FAQ'd most of said WD rules with the 6th edition rulebook. Then FAQ'd them more, and now you're FAQing them again to force players to buy your new DftS compendium to grab more money.

This is the kind of marketing/money grab BS that has me seriously considering leaving 40k. I know some folks will laugh and tell me not to let the door hit me in the butt on my way out or laugh and say "can I have your stuff?". But I hope those are the minority and that most folks will recognize the piss-poor business/marketing model that GW has adopted over the last several years.

    1. Of course this was going to happen, now we NEED the damned compendium. It is bad behaviour, GW.

  30. I'm just thinking about the Vendetta and the Ravager. They are 130 compared to 105 Pts base, and the Ravagers has 3 Lances and can fire them all. Let's look at the Vendetta for a little bit.
    * 3 S9 AP2 Lascannons. Sure, not Lance, but Twin-linked. I want my Twin-linked lances.
    * Can have sponsons. More shots, more dead plastic dudesmen.
    * Can be fielded in squadrons! I want my murder pirate dark eldar Ravager squadrons!
    * Can transport infantry. Ravagers are ships like Raiders. Duded could fit into them. Why not, GW, why not?
    * AV 12 to AV 11. Yes, Flickerfields compensate that. If you are lucky.
    * Vendetta is a Flyers. Moves fast. Ravagers is not a Flyer, but moves fast. Coming to:
    * Ravager is HS, because it's so durable, so hard to kill, so deadly. Vendetta is Fast attack, because... it is a flyer. (Compare it to the Razorwing. Which is also a flyer. And a Heavy Support. An AV10 paper plane is in HEAVY support. Move that frakkin plane to FA slot GW!

    Damn!

This release could have been so good. Could have been.

Seriously, those guys at GW NEVER EVER played WH40K? They never read forums? Damn...

    2. Bearing in mind that only things worse than a Guardsman in CC are Fire Warriors and Grots.

Bearing in mind that Valk/Vend is the only unit of its kind for the IG, while all DE vehicles are extremely fast, hard to hit, and those having transport capability can carry some of the deadliest CC units in the game (which explains why every DE vehicle is not allowed to transport; also, in the fluff the IG Salamander is able to carry a small squad, not so in the rules).

Bearing in mind that the advantage of AV13/14 is completely negated by the use of Lance, making Guard tanks paper-thin equivalent but sloooow with no flickerfield magicks.

Bearing in mind that TL lascs usually shoot at completely different targets than HB sponsons (barring the occasional MC), so they are useful only on the anti-horde ML/rocket Valk.

Bearing in mind that by squadroning Vendettas you force them all to shoot at a same target and against most non-superheavy vehicles 9 TL lascs is gross overkill (unless it's a vehicle squadron).

Bearing in mind what happens to a Flyer that gets immobilized, and especially what happens to its passengers when it is destroyed.

Though, now that you mentioned DE, I could complain that the Allies rules are unfair and completely broken, because I cannot hide Lelith or The Stig's Dark Eldar cousin (Drazhar) in a blob of 50 Guardsmen w/ commissar if I take DE allies.

    3. I like your thoughts, thanks for sharing them! I cannot argue that 9 TL Lascannons will destroy everything and are major overkill. Although Lance negates AV13/AV14, I don't find it that easy to kill IG vehicles with non-TL Ravagers.

Could you please be a little more specific on the "most deadliest CC units in the game" topic?

I wouldn't consider Wcyhes deadly as they usually have S3 and die horribly when their transport is destroyed Turn 1. Incubi are decent against anything but (Assault) Terminators and butcher any unit they assault but die afterwards standing in the open with T3, despite Sv 3+.

And how come DE vehicles are hard to kill as they are AV10/AV11 at best and can be glanced to death from mass Bolter shots? (AV10 variants only.) That 5+ Jink / Flickerfield only saves statistically 1/3 of the shots, and they are destroyed on 4+ with AP2 Plasmas or on 3+ with AP1 Meltas that everybody can spam nowadays. They just fall like flies against in my experience.

  33. So, it says that Death from the Skies is no longer available. Is that because they are out of stock? Or, was it limited and now is gone forever?

My guess is that it is limited. I've read in the posts above that "it could have been so much better." I'm guessing that they are going to do a large collected volume of these limited books. Half of this book was rehashed stuff anyways.

I noticed that the ork barracades are no longer available either. Does GW remove out of stock items on their webpage or only discontinued items?

  34. death from the skies is a standard rulebook so isnt limited. they just didnt print alot of them before selling it for some insane reason

  35. Already sold out... what a surprise! Good thing I already put in my advanced order last Friday. I'm just glad that BT will be getting some flyers.

GW says they are making more but this release was so quiet, my money is on that there isn't any more coming. Once the advance orders for the Daemons come out, the focus will be on those!
