Death From the Skies is happening. I find it funny that I publish what the GW internal newsletter says and even then there are doubters. Now more and more people have seen the internal announcement, and still there are a lot of people that think this is a fake. Anyways, here it is again for those that are still unaware that February 16th is the release date for Death From the Skies.

This is not a rumor, as I had said back on January 31st. What we do not know, is all the details inside it. There is a ton of speculation, but ignore everything else you have read. No one has read the compendium yet and spoke out about it, all we have is people seeing the same document which I shared at the end January. The only real information about this release is reposted for you below.

  1. So I notice that it say "Stormraven (that can now be used in Codex: Space Marines and Codex: Black Templars)" I guess Space Wolves still don't get it, considering that it specifies a Codex outside of the Space Marine Codex, as opposed to just saying:
Stormraven (that can now be used by all Space Marines)

  2. Did Blood Angles get access to the Stormtalon?

  3. As an Eldar player there is no reason to buy this for me. Releasing new fliers for armies like eldar and tau could have made this book fly off the virtual shelves. Oh well. 40K is pretty much on hold for me until the next eldar codex anyway.

    1. Same here, only switch the words 'Tau' and 'Eldar'..

    2. So you really contributed nothing to the discussion then. thanks.

Instead of complaining for the sake of complaining, find something productive to do with your time instead of crapping on what makes others happy.

    3. Based on the feedback that's being generated from this release, doesn't seem like others are being made happy...Just sayin'.

    4. Techno, what I got from your post was that you don't want people to criticize things, just because those things make some people happy.

    5. Ah crap! I just published an ebook on Amazon called "Death from the Skies"! :P

    6. @technomajestic You win for most unintentionally ironic post ever.

Observe as I add nothing to the conversation by stating you add nothing to the discussion and complain about your complaining.

      WTG Guy!

  4. No reason whatsoever to buy this if that is all that it contains. Now if it contained an update for Missile Launchers to Flakk, that would make it moderately appealing; however, as it stands my coffee deserves better material to sit on.

  5. That's not really a lot of content for 72 pages...I wonder what else is in there?

    1. Crusade of Fire is 96 pages(counting copyable card pages for dog fighting and gladiator combat) and it doesn't really have anything in it. This sounds like it has a lot more at least semi use full info in it. Tho I feel if this was from almost any company other than GW it would be a free download.

  6. Wonder if C:SM and C:BT will get the Blood Angels Stormraven or the Grey Knights one?

    1. My money would be on the one that doesn't come with The Aegis, Psychic Pilot, Anti-Psyker Missiles, and Psybolt Ammo.

      Delete
    2. But would they get blood strike missiles or a weakened generic 'vanilla' missile?

      Delete
    3. That there is the magic question. My thought is that if they're trying to simplify the entry, simply sticking to bloodstrike missiles. But I wouldn't put it past them to shaft the other codicies with some kind of crappy Str 7 AP 4 missile.

      Delete
    4. Anti-psyker missiles felt like a shaft to GK anyway :P

      Delete
    5. I hope they put crappy missiles on it. IMO, it should be exclusive to Blood Angels and Grey Knights. You want a Storm Raven, use the allies rules.

      Delete
    6. the thing is the stormraven is from a doctrine Point of view entirely too consistant with vanilla marines doctrine. it's basicly a smaller thunderhawk.

      Delete
    7. If stormravens are getting dished out then BA and GK should at least get stormtalons too!

    8. Id assume a hunter killer missle is the easy replace

    1. not nesscarily a bad thing though remember this type of stuff is needed as 2 years from now someone could be wanting to make a space marine army and be unable to get the rules for storm talons any other way

    3. GW Stores actually Give you a Free fotocopy.
Now they will Charge you for the Compendium instead.

Besides the Book has nothing New.
No flakk ML for all or AA Whirlwinds
      No New Flyers or Models
      Nothing!!!!

Its pretty mich what its says ist is
A Collection of Old stuff -.-

Oh jeah Vanila and BT can have the Flying-Toaster
      DA and SW got non.
Dark talon is Not a playable Unit

    6. Doesn't anyone remember the old "Chapter Approved" books? They were all just reprints of all the rules that had accumulated in White Dwarf, compiled in a single tome for easy reference. This isn't a "new concept" from GW. Also, it probably has lots of pretty pictures of beautifully-painted models. Why shouldn't GW try to sell it? They went to the trouble of producing it and having it printed for anyones convenience. It's not like you're compelled to buy it, like the BRB or your army's codex. Jeez, you guys just like to bitch about anything and everything GW does! Try doing something constructive and positive with your time and energy, like volunteering or helping a noob to be a better player... What a bunch of bitchers you are... Sheets!

  8. The thing that frustrates me the most is, Tyranid need the largest buffs possible, this should be a 70+ page book adding in multiple TYRANID flyer waves.

HELLO Turn of arrival the Mystetic spore can't move, Turn 2 and on it can fly like a FMC and spawn Homagaunts anywhere beneith it that can assult the turn they arrive.

    1. For all we know, there *could* be an updated ruleset for the Harpy, there *could* be more anti-flier options added to all armies. We'll have to wait and see...

      Delete
    2. How do you think Dark Eldar Webway armies feel about the no assault from reserves rule? Saying that this book should just be tons of tyranid flyer waves is silly. Do they need love? Yes. Is it on its way? Maybe after a few books; it came out in 5th after-all.

  9. First off, thank you for the post, and all your hard work.

Secondly, what a stunningly missed chance for an actual product with actual new content.

I would be what...90 seconds to update the BT and SM faqs? We don't need a book for that, or for the flyer subgame (the dogfight stuff from Crusade).

We need flyer rules for all races, even if they don't make the models yet.

How did this get internal approval and resource allocation? What bizzare ROI metric did this produce?

Of course, my comments are based on it not having any new content (i.e. flyers for other races).

If it does, obviously my comments no longer apply...

but gw desperately needs to hire either:
    Gamers with good business skills.
    OR
Good business guys who understand the game.

    1. GW wants to Charge you for Flyer rules
      Thats all!

    2. New content? i guess some 40k DLC would be nice. How about some new rules instead.

      Delete
    3. Check my comment above... This is just like "Chapter Approved" over a decade ago, and those books sold just fine. Theirs your ROI.

For new rules about existing units and armies, see their new codexes when they come out, which will be "eventually" (says the Dark Eldar player)... Everything happens with the passage of time, you just need some patience and *ahem* maturity to endure...

      :-)

    4. Chapter Approved compiled a number of clarifications and new rules that spanned difficult to get magazine prints. These "compendiums" (compendia?) compile easy to get FAQ and Errata.

    5. For all you know, it could have new rules or reduced point costs. Or even increased point costs. I plan on getting it, personally.

    6. Yes I've already request my FLGS order when available. Even if for no other reason the single handy resource for flyer stats during gameplay. I truely hope that the stormraven becomes available to vanilla marines, and conversely the stormtalon becomes available (or a suitable replacement made available for) the gk and ba codex users. After all fair is fair.

  10. Do we know if they are announcing new models to go with this release as well, such as the voidraven???
It sems kind of weird theyd do a rules release for such a flier in an update withought it officially having a model? I know there have been long rumors of its release

  11. Seems really quiet for right now for something that is supposed to come out in 5 days... >_>

  12. For what it's worth: I asked my game store to order this book for me. I was just informed via email that the release date has been "pushed back" and no definite release date set yet.
