Tau information just keeps coming. Once again Stickmonkey is dishing out info that is said to be "in process". There is a lot here that I am liking, like the Vespid flyer. Definitely worth checking out.

Please remember that these are rumors.

Caveat: Many of these are said to be "in process".  Don't look for *exact match* rules to survive to the printed codex.

Units
Ethereals: These now grant army wide special rules and bubble rules, but there are different options. They function roughly much like those recent Dark Angels banners. So one option might be army wide Ld rerolls while in play, plus units in 12" are fearless. Another option might be one unit in army gets salvo once per turn, and all units in 12" get rerolls to hit.

Kroot: Everyone's favorite birdmen get Scout, Furious Charge, Move thru Cover. Kroot Hounds and Kroot hawks! Shaper can unlock additional unit upgrades.

"Sneaky Kroot": Look for an ELITES Kroot unit that can hide in terrain like Ymgarl Genestealers.

Knarloc: The new big beasty model, very similar to the Forgeworld Great Knarloc (see below). Monstrous Creature, with a trample attack allowing it to run 3d6" and cause 2d6 S6 AP6 wounds to any unit it crosses. It may additionally use this special move to charge a unit, gains +2A and the assault-grenades ability when charging in this manner.

Vespid: The maligned bug men are redeemed! Big improvements, weapon range increase, point reduction, hit and run.

Vespid Flyer: Smallest flyer in game, like a jetbike, single blaster as weapon, vector-dancer

Fortifications: Deep striking turrets as fortification options. Burst cannons or missile pods options.

Tau Flyer Transport: 13 13 12 armor, holds a full Fire Warrior or Crisis Suit squad, or single Uber-suit. Not a lot of weapons, but HP:3, and has a save from wargear that can be taken. Deep strike. Rules-wise is focused on getting units reliably to a location.

The Uber-suit: So many options currently it's hard to keep them straight. It's a mobile weapon platform, with rail guns as it's main weapon system, - which can be upgraded to a plasma weapon system or ion cannons. Classified as monstrous creature. 2+/4++ save. It can forgo shooting and movement to gain 2++ save. The Uber can move as jump infantry if it does not shoot it's main weapons. VERY HIGH toughness, no existing weapon can instant death it. Although it can smash if it has to, it is not designed as a close combat unit at all. Cost is comparable to a Terminator squad. It can take drone support.

Odds and Ends
FOC: Some specific HQs move Crisis Suits to troops. One moves two Kroot units to troops.

Psykers-defense: All Tau have some base immunity to psychic powers, and thus any Tau unit can deny the witch, with the suits gaining an  improvement to this roll.

  1. Something about that "Uber-suit" sounds fishy to me.

    1. Of course.. It's Tau :D Hehheh, ..Get it? Fishy.. :)

Anyway, 2++ save if it doesn't move or shoot? If the toughness truly is 8, then i think this is Waaay over the top since probably anyone would want to shoot it to pieces. Then again it opens up alot of tactical choices.

If these are even close to the actual rules, then it seems Cruddace is cooking up yet another Super-powered codex to match the Imperial Guard.

... I just hope there are many, many different builds..

    2. If they end up being a power gaming codex à la Guard then I will be really sad.

    3. Forgo shooting and moving but not assault so it must be for survivability if engaged in close combat with something like TH/SS Terminators.

  2. Seems a bit wishlisty to me. Can't see them making an AV13 flyer. Would be near impossible for ground units to take down.

    1. That AND the Tau would then get 3 flyers (according to rumors). I don't think its impossible, but.. I don't know.

Also from the description of previous rumors concerning the Tau Fighter jet, i truly believe it is the Barracuda even though everyone says it's something else..

    2. LOL A Vespid flyer?! Is it a flying scooter?

I'm not too sure how legit a rumour is when it's about a naturally flying race getting a flyer :'(

    3. Yes i also doubt that. Or then its a single vespid riding on a small beehive, punching everyone in his path.

Then again, nothing surprises me anymore after seeing one certain orangatang armed with a ring that shoots Lazorbeams!!

    4. LOL! To be fair, Jokearo have actually been around since the early Rogue Trader days as the galaxy's most talented creators of digital weapons and yes, they have always been described like that. :'( But they're not new.

      Also...moving Kroot to Troops?! EH?

    5. An av 13 front 12rear would really suck as nothing short of a lucky krak missile hit or lascannon could touch it

  3. Also the "any tau unit can deny the witch" you mean like any unit in any army? Presumably 5+ or something

    1. Well, every unit in an army can already deny the witch on a 6+ I believe. Basic Tau might get an improvement to 5+, or maybe only the suits do.

  4. Think the high armour transport isn't too OP if the weapons are no good. Interesting to see if it has to hover to drop off the suits.

  5. When it says "no existing weapon can instant death it", does it mean based on S v. T? Because my DE have lots of ID and remove from play stuff.

    1. It sounds like SvT but the thing could just have Eternal Warrior.

  6. I really must try to bite my tongue. I hate reading and/or believing rumours when they are very likely to still change, but to me, this all sounds like GW are gearing up to throw Tau under the bus as soon as the codex is released.
Not that this comes as a surprise of course...

    1. That's because you're a massive pessemist, mate ;]

I think more than half of this current bunch is either made up creppe or subject to loads of change so I wouldn't worry. Given the quality of both 6th ed codices so far I'm not too worried...unless they change the fluff (which only Necrons really had recently so far and that was a one-off).

    2. I prefer to think of it as Observational Powah™ coupled with a healthy dose of Being A Realist™ although those tend to very easily be confused with Pessimism and/or bitterness...

If it hadn't been for Forge World, I probably wouldn't have bought any models or played Warhammer 40k at all for the past 1-2 years

I would love for GW & FW to keep all armies balanced and updated through their entire life-cycle, but I some how doubt that this will happen...

  8. Well, I'm always excited to hear Kroot rumors!

  9. I must admit, while not getting excited/frustrated over the rules, the rumours of these new units are making me seriously consider starting a Tau army.

I hope we get some more rumours on the miniatures, as I'd be even happier with plastic Pathfinders, Vespids, Kroot hounds and Krootox.

  10. Natfka, I hope you get paid for your efforts: You do more work before 6am than GW does it's whole life!

    1. Agreed. I don't know what I would do without this site.

  11. Alot of these rules sound reminiscent of the already existing Forgeworld stuff, deep striking fortifications and the Knarloc, as well as a high armour flying transport (Orca).

I've got no problems with it personally, I just hope that the codex is competetive and gives us more options :D

    ReplyDelete
  12. Why not bring existing FW stuff into the main codex, especially if they have proved to be popular, and you are launching new plastics for them as well? For example, the 5ed IG codex included the (until then) FW-only Valkyrie/Vendetta, ML & PC Sentinels, LR Executioner, Manticore, Hydra, Medusa, and Colossus (and returned Griffon, LR Vanquisher, and LR Exterminator that had been moved from codex to FW between 3ed and 4ed).
