There are lots of images starting to leak about showing off a couple codex/army book pages and more images of the new models.

Here are some pics. Note that they will probably not be up all that long. Take a look, as there are a lot of interesting things going on in this set. Daemonic Instability is mentioned. I did not see Feel No Pain. There are some random powers as well as some talk about Daemonic Gifts.

Please note there are only little bits of information available. I am sure that when the magazine hits the stores on Saturday, everyone will get a better chance to view these pages in a better context. This is just a snippet of things to come.

  1. Natfka, has anyone ever told you how wonderful you are? Gonna burn these stats into my mind now... can't wait 'til Saturday!

  2. Some of those rules look like Fantasy rules. The mention of "lvl 1 wizard" for Horrors and "skirmish" for Flamers seem to indicate those pages are not 40k rules.

    2. Sorry Robert, guess I was thrown off by the name of the site. :P

Anyways, yes, now I can see which pages are 40k and which are Fantasy.

    3. Yeah...Things like scaly skin, a movement characteristic, Special and core units...

The Plagubearers of Nurgle and Great Unclean one are the only 40k stats on show. Grrr. Want to see how other stuff looks and how to deal with it.

    4. how the....

Beasts and Plague drones of nurgle rather.

I should pay more attention, Too many tabs open looking at all the pictures

  4. Thanks for this Natfka, now I need to cry in a corner about the hideous FOC that Daemons appear to have? 16 HQ Choices? What the actual f***, GW? I guess Heralds still only take up 1/2 a choice, looking at this. I would also guess that this is double FOC.
I still can't quite believe that they wanted more HQ choices.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm not sure its they wanted more HQ choices but more they wanted less DP's on the board. Fave models get shelved to make way for new units or those not seling as well. Its the GW practice, Money first everything else second.

    2. firtsyl u dont know the sized game and secondly the white dwarf lists are NEVER right as they are showing off as much of the new range as possible

      Delete
    3. It could be possible that the heralds are like command squads for daemon princes, purchased as bonus HQ that don't count toward the FOC.

      Delete
    4. I have a feeling that they wanted to move Monstrous Creatures out of other slots, to prevent a flying circus of monsters (I think that's going to be a Nid thing.) In that case, moving Demon Princes to the HQ is a good idea, so long as the Demon Prince has a reason for existing next to the Greater Demons.

      Delete
    5. Don't get me started. That's the most useless army list in human history.

No one - no one - takes beasts of nurgle. They are an utterly pointless unit with no utility whatsoever.

Really not sure what to make of the Daemon prince in HQ.

All in all, it seems a strange book. I don't see huge amounts of new art work - I'm not a great fan of John Blanche's spikey work - I know some love it, but I am not one of them. That Imperial guard/Daemon pic is old, from the original book from 2007, Plaguebearer/Great Unclean one equally so.

I have to confess the new chariots aren't setting me on fire either and with the hype and hyperbole outside of White Dwarf such units won't get a shot off and will likely be expensive.

Ah well. A shame, really. Will wait for the book to come out in March and go from there.

      Delete
    6. Beasts of Nurgle might be much better in the new rules, I'm sure GW would've noticed that nobody ever bought any!

      Delete
    7. Love Beasts in fantasy, so it would be great if they were better in 40k.

Fingers crossed that heralds work differently if they are getting Locus powers like in fantasy where they give something to their unit. If they are, them I am hoping for a royal court type rule.

      Delete
    8. Beasts are 5 points more then two plague bearers, and do way more damage.

      That's what they are for...

  5. All of these are Fantasy rules, which is why things are listed under Core and Special, etc.

Anyway, about Daemons. By the sound of it, Phil Kelly has added his signature to this codex - tables and random shit. Everywhere.

    3. @-Shrike-
Might I point out that these are daemons of... CHAOS?
You should see the number of tables that were in the 2 Realm of Chaos books in rogue trader.
If you don't like a random element to your army I have to say that daemons of chaos just are not for you.

      Delete
    4. There's random - rolling *before* you play and random rolling while you play.

Random can do - not being able to mitigate the random - don't like.

    2. I'm thinking "Daemon of ...", will be the same as in the Chaos Space Marine Codex, so 'Shrouded' for Daemons of Nurgle.

      Delete
    3. Shrouded and Slow & Purposeful. This will make Nurgel forces VERY slow on foot. Inevitably, it will require a few units to be put in reserve and deep-struck to get across the field. Likely your scoring units, while your disposable Heavies, fast and elites can come in on foot.
Lack of overwatching for any shooting weapons one might have will also kinda suck, but likely only for princes etc...

    1. The one pair of pages is indeed 40k the rest are fantasy. You can tell by the statlines not having an "M"(movement) category. I am truly impressed with the beasts of Nurgle this time. D6+1 attacks, poisoned 4+, "it will not die", 4 wounds (thank goodness), toughness 5 and two previously non-existent special rules. Barring points costs, looks like I will be able to use my beasts of Nurgle as something other than paper weights! Super excited to see what else is in store.

      Delete
    2. Was pretty blatant they would get a boost this dex. They were horrid in the last one. Looks like they don't have S&P now either which is another bonus.

      Delete
  10. If i read that correctly, the beasts of nurgle can declare a charge in the enemy charge sub-phase, against a charging enemy unit (if the unit is within 12" of the beast unit). And they can also charge multiple units if they are within 12".

    That is interesting.
Also there's a rule called 'Slime Trail'. A unit that succesfully charges one or more models with this special rule is always treated as having made a disordered charge.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah that slime trail is similar to the fantasy slime trail that negates the bonus for flank and rear charges.

      Delete
  11. And i don't believe that the Great Unclean Ones and Plaguebearers page is from 40k.. Or what unit type is 'Monster'?

    1. The GUO page is from Fantasy because it says he can have the Lore of Death.

    2. Yes plus magic and all other weird stuff (from a 40k player's view) :)

      Delete
  12. Right, Plaguebearers no longer get FNP. They need a Herald for that. What have you done, Kelly?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. But that's not a 40k page, its Fantasy.

      Delete
    2. I am getting the definite impression that heralds will now work more like the Necron royal courts or Dark Eldar Archon courts. That is, one buys their Daemon prince or GD, and then has an allowance of some number of heralds (with the same "Daemon of .." rule) to distribute into their various units. For example, GUO allows for 0-3 heralds of Nurgle, which one then places into a unit of plague bearers, plague drones and one on it's own on a palanquin. This would certainly unclutter the HQ section. Just a thought based on the whole blurb above about overspending on loci and the warp storm table.

      Delete
    3. Pretty sure Nurgle will get feel no pain. He gave Death Guard feel no pain. Would make absolutely no sense to not then give it to actual Daemons of Nurgle.
I'm guessing (and praying for Kelly's sake), it comes under the daemon of Nurgle rule along with S&P.

      Delete
    4. It was from the WD 40k battle report page, where the person is talking about Loci on Heralds. The Nurgle one (or one of them) gives FNP, the Tzeentch one +1S to psychic powers.

      Delete
    5. Hence Daemon of Nurgle will probably not give FNP - you'll need a herald for that.

      Delete
    6. No wait that would then give drones S&P.. I'm confused now. Surely he hasn't left FnP off them?!

      Delete
    7. A herald gives FnP now? well that makes even less sense?!

      Delete
    8. The stat pages for core units are fantasy. It says you can buy 10+ in a unit. 40k is usually in blocks no larger than 20. Plus some of the costs are kinda of high for special units.

      Delete
    9. I think "clusterfuck" is the only way to describe this. The most likely outcome based on this is that Daemon of Nurgle gives SnP, Shrouded and whatever the other one is. Unless they don't get SnP, so your drones can act normally, but the Plaguebearers can run... Oh fuck it all. I give up trying to make sense of this rule.

      Delete
    10. I know exactly what you mean. Think you best summed it up as a "clusterfuck". lol

      Delete
    11. Yep, pretty odd. I think there are a lot of changes up for daemons. I mean the cannon has a 36" range and BS 5! Daemons never had that kind of range before. The book is new, really new. If these are any clues, the face of the army has changed substantially. I have no problem with running plaguebearers, so long as they fall apart in true Nurgle leprous fashion along the way.

      Delete
    12. Also anyone notice "Soul Grinder of Tzeentch". We get to mark our soul grinders!

    13. More wondering what the icon is used for now but yeah just saw that about the SG. Never liked SG's though, as good as they might be now, they will never be the DP's of 5th we all loved.

      Delete
    14. Yes true, but so long as each option in HS is somewhat usable, I will be happy. I will miss DPs in HS, but I for one welcome this book, I am actually seeing some things I like.

      Delete
    15. To be fair, I don't think that you can sum up anything decently without knowing all the components of the sum.

It's just a couple of pages, wait for the book. You know these new 6E books have special rules separate to the units that have them. It's folly to judge any of this already without seeing the whole list, especially with 6E's current trend for units working together rather thanbeing over-specialised.

      Delete
    16. Reason and logic has no place on these internets! Burn you heretic!

Yeah you are right though just its is hard not to work yourself up and worry with your £1000 army sitting beside you. Plus its fun to speculate and worry and rage quit before knowing the rules sometimes. :P

      Delete
    17. To be honest, I can totally see them taking FnP off of the Bearers normally, and requiring a herald in the unit to give it back to them. I only say that because it is exactly that way in the current fantasy rules. Same thing with the 4+ save on Horrors.

      Delete
  13. After looking over the army list above, I think I was right. The layout does not look like a double FOC, and there are 4 heralds and 1 daemon prince in HQ. The Daemon prince must count as an unmarked/undivided HQ that allows for 4 heralds under him. Of course just guessing but I think it would be unusual for them to use a double FOC army for this. But that is just me.

  14. I damn-well hope that "Hellblades" give bloodletters a strength boost and killing blow, otherwise things are not looking good for my Khornate fantasy army :p
2pt increase to gain a 6+ save and loose 1str and killing blow is not a nice thought xD

  15. In the January issue battle report they totally ignored the Force Org chart so he could take one of every new Dark Angel unit, perhaps that is happening here? Although Heralds not being Force Org slots also is definitely possible.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yah....not a big WD reader, so I guess that was too much liberty on my part. But someone on warseer pointed out that we have 1 herald for each troop unit. This person suggested the possibility that heralds may be included on a 1:1 herald:troop unit basis. Two units of PB: two heralds of Nurgle. It would sure sell some more models, especially if heralds are indispensible to the functioning of units. I could see a Khorne herald conferring AP3 on his unit or +1 WS. Such upgrades would make them must haves.

    2. I really, really hate the battle reports that ignore the Force Organization charts.

    3. And I thought White Dwarf was supposed to be getting better?... Glad I'm saving my money!
What's the point in battle reports if they don't even use the core rules of the game?

    4. Because they get to show off the new stuff that people want to see in action?

      Delete
    5. But it's unbalanced/unnatural. It's like claiming a car has great safety features when all your crash tests were conducted on the moon or somewhere with lower gravity than earth.
Older white dwarfs showed off new units in action without cheating, plus it hardly shows off a new unit if it's supported by units it could not be with. I'm just very disappointed to hear how things have changed...

The drone extra bits could come in particularly useful for them also. I am looking forward to making and seeing a lot of others custom built ones especially if they don't bother changing that fugly official model.

    2. Yes the Plague Toads are awesome, but I would advocate the contrary conclusion concerning new beast models coming. I would suspect that this is a sign these will be replaced in the next 6-18 months. Sort of like how there is no Greater daemon in the battle report.

    - The Flaming Chariot of Tzeentch "eats vehicles"
    - Soulgrinders now can switch to a skyfire mode to take down flyers.
