  1. Like I said before. Very dynamic models. But doubt this it. And wheres the codex pic?

Also the plauge drones look so funny. Like flying mutated anteaters.

    1. Good point about the codex. I too will be surprised if they don't redo at least one GD to try and make a load of money.

      Delete
    2. I'd say this is it. These will cover the new units I expect which seems to be the trend for 1st wave releases these days. Redone units for later waves. Technically this is sorta the 2nd wave now anyway after the blue scribes and the rest a while back.

      Delete
    3. Think about it... release the new codex with the new units... sell a bunch of GD's, then make new GD's and make more money.

      Delete
    4. They would never make a bunch of money on a GD, or really any large monster for that matter. Like PP's absurdly priced Colossals, large kits will only sell at a rate of slightly less than 1 per player. They can't profit on this by volume, hence the $85 price tag everyone should expect.

No, selling them at $60 wouldn't move many more, as very few people will ever own more than 2.

    2. 'Codexes'. It's technically incorrect, but that's how GW chooses to pluralise this term. and in this context it's 'their' word.

      Delete
    3. Sorry Mr Burn, I think the correct term is codices (co-dee-sees) - if GW get ti wrong we bally well shouldn't!

And I'd normally be jumping about like a four year old as I've wanted a Tzeentch chariot for... since the book came out. Now it's here I might get one, but much depends on what the model does in game.

Also hate to be a 'power gamer' but the Plague flies are going to be fast attack and that's already got much better units. Where were the 'ravager' mobs of daemon engines like the blood slaughterer from Forge World? Where's the bonkers mega monster of uber death?

Ah well. Depends on the rules. I am genuinely disappointed that there are no new greater daemon plastics, especially after those rules made the 'thirster truly terrifying.

The minis are beautiful though, just not setting off the reactor rumble I'd hoped for. Maybe I'm getting old.

    4. I agree with you Pegboard - in standard English, it *is* 'codices'... however here, we're talking a stylistic choice. For whatever reason, GW have chosen to use 'codexes' as their plural, so that's what we should be using in this context. Otherwise we'll have to say that it's 'administration' not 'administratum', etc etc.

      Delete
    5. It's not the first time GW is creative with spelling and gramar. I am quite said to see another wave of deamons there are a lot of armies deserving a new codex.

      Delete
    6. Administratum is an attempt at Latin. Codex with the plural Codices is a word that has made it into English (despite having Latin origins) so we should use it correctly. Plural is Codices, and GW can go screw themselves.

The wings are really a great idea, but in my opinion (tastes are tastes) they all seem like very old. They are not the really superb cool models i have been used to in last years. Finally thinking something's wrong with some sculptors there. Am I too old to enjoy this models? Are they designed to appeal to children? Must we, the older players, forget about having decent models?

'...are not the really superb cool models i have been used to in last years'
Which is it, GW haven't made a decent model in years, or these models don't compare to the amazing stuff they've been putting out recently. You can't have both, but I suspect you just wanted to have a whine.

  13. Angry Disabled Buggy and Three Man Giant Segway of Khorne. Horrible, awful.

Herald of Khorne, actually very nice, might get this one.

Herald of Nurgle, nice in itself but a stylistic departure from the friendly Plague-bearers and they might look odd together. Maybe if I give him the fly-head from the Plague-bearers...

I actually like the fly part of the Plague Drones, but the fact that their riders appear to be balancing on the back of their mount's heads in a really unbalanced position makes the overall effect look stupid. I hope to Nugle that there is some way of moving the saddle back to over the wings and rotating the model around so it looks more plausible.

Herald and Chariot of Tzeentch, not too bad, though the chariot's 'fire' looks more like fake coral from a fishtank.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I love your analysis! How much better would those plague drones look without those riders perched awkwardly on top? You are not the only one that immediately thought about coral on that flamer chariot. It looks like a great model, but that does not look like fire.

I do like the Khorne Herald, but that Slaanesh one? Bleh... It looks like the "old" fiends (of which I have 2 squads), but bulky and gross. Oh well.

That skull cannon? I was thinking about that old Epic miniature... You know, the giant freaking cannon decorated with skulls?! This looks like a little 8-pounder pirate cannon.

    1. This is sadly true... and remember that Fantasy Daemons are now running around with the Soul Grinder. A few days ago, I was reading the WD article from 2008 about Daemons, and the comment about the Soul Grinder was "The Soul Grinder is only available to Chaos Daemons, for obvious reasons!"

How times change... but if they can make more money by doing less work, what do you think they will do?

      Delete
    2. Its perfectly feasible for soulgrinders to exist in fantasy just like it is perfectly feasible for fantasy to exist in 40k if you think about it. The warp doesn't really care for what is trending at the time nor does it follow time or reason.

    4. If people want to get picky, why is slaanesh in fantasy?

      Delete
    5. Because Fantasy happens after the fall on a remote planet isolated by warp storms. Or... Something...

      Delete
    6. Because it's a separate franchise and the gods aren't technically the same. In Fantasy Slaanesh wasn't born in cM29 because of the Eldar, and is essentially a different god in a different universe to 40k Slaanesh.

      Delete
    7. You need to read Realm of Chaos Forgebreaker. Back in those days the fluff was fantastic. Also it was made clear that the WHF world was indeed a warp storm isolated world and contemporary with the 40K universe. The rules were even compatible abd it was possible for 40K and Fantasy armies to play against each other.

  17. Not too keen on any of these models. I wish they looked more horrifying and daemonic instead of cartoonish. The nurgle flies look like bloated cartoon elephants, the cannon literally looks like it has no place in the 40k verse, and the other models are meh at best. A bit disappointed with the sculpts. I hope to do a lot of converting in the near future. I also hope the new dex won't match the silliness of these models...

    ReplyDelete
  23. HO man. I can understand why it took so long for these images to leak. As is the practice with the rest of their problems, GW thought that if they ignored these models for long enough they would just go away.

Those Plague Drone mounts are, without a doubt, the worst. models. ever.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well the Plague Drones don't look that bad imo. I see quite a big resemblance to mosquitos (a very bloated one), which are known to spread diseases in some countries. Imo it fits Nurgle pretty much.

I think the main point is rider and mount not being compatible with each other. This due to either:
      - Rider sitting in a very ackward spot like it's off balance;
      - Rider's looks doesn't fit the mount's appearance;
      - or it's simply the paintjob which makes it look horrible.

Anyways, looking at the current picture I'll be getting myself at least 1 unit. Though I'll exclude the riders.

    3. Honestly, the flies just need the drooping stomachs to sit up like a fat belly, and they would look pretty awesome if you ask me.

      Delete
    4. I really don't like that spirit of buying anyway. It is against us. They shouldn't worry about the look of their minis with customers that buys EVERYTHING just because they make a good stat... where is now the excuse that they are a MODELS COMPANY when they need good stats (that of course break the game with every new codex) to sell the horrible model?????

      Delete
    5. I agree Rickyard. If you don't like it don't buy it. There are amazing miniature companies other than GW, so proxy something from elsewhere.

If you can hold on a month or two somoeone like Scibor or Hi-Tec will sculpt a similar but better model for us all to use.

Since most GW stores are now one man with no veteran's nights (at least round here) and they don't support tournaments any more then there is no reason to slavishly buy GW models.

  25. The Blood Throne:

How does it move? Despite holding two daemons in chains, it's not being pulled. On further inspection, it looks like it's a giant motorcycle as you can just make out a large wheel buried in the back.

Then the question is, wouldn't an actual daemonic motorcycle have been so much cooler? This looks like a daemonic Big Wheel.

The Flaming Chariot has hints of some cool details. I think it's just the green paint job that is messing up the fire. It almost looks like there are "hands" reaching out in the flames. It's workable.

The plague drones aren't terrible as flies... just take off the riders or blend the colors better.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Warp power! But yeah its either a trike type thing or the back wheel is a big steam roller. Hope for the latter. And yes I agree about the weird paint job with the flaming chariot might be putting some people off though its a dual kit and its going to take some insanely good rules to make me choice building it over the helald chariot anyway. That thing looks exactly how a Tzeentch herald on chariot should look!
Plague drones I absolutely love (cept for the chubby legs on them, they need changing for more spindly ones). The heads on em though I adore! I already have named a plague bearer with a similar head Nunu and now he has some pets!

      Delete
    2. If I had a complaint about anything it would be that the Slaanesh herald IMO looks like see might of been hit in the face with a frying pan a couple of times but then that could just be the picture quality which isn't the best in the world really.

      Delete
    3. The more I think "screw it, they're daemons!", the more I'm okay with the Khorne stuff. If you think "weird" instead of "scary" then they did a pretty good job. I have to remember that a lot of the old art I loved had just weird, twisted visages of flesh and metal. It could work. I like that name Nunu for some reason.

Hopefully the greater deamons will blow me away because otherwise this is disappointing.

  27. Games Workshop is on a streak of codex releases where the majority of the models look awful. Hopefully it doesn't continue into Tau and Eldar. The drones have tiny fucking wings and are fat AND have a rider. The Khorne stuff looks out of proportioned and goofy. The "flaming chariot" has flames that don't even look like flames and they take up 70% of the model. Some of their models like the DE and DV plastics are really good, which makes these new ones seem more disappointing. They really need quality control.

    1. Totally agree, they look FLAT, as the really older ones.

  36. Oh Roberts- silly rabbit. There's a difference between bitching about a group who bitches and a group who constantly bitches. Just like there is a key difference between an 'opinion' and 'bitching'.

    1. Those khorne chariots look cool, and a bit disturbing. Like something straight out of the realm of chaos. I swear I've seen those designs before from jhon Blanche artwork.

  37. I like the models, they are each one less thing I have to sculpt myself, which makes me happy. I am tired of scratch-building and converting the good stuff (tzeentch heralds chariots for example, though they might be crap in the new book). I kind of want to build and play more often. But the real nagging question for me is where do these chariots go in the FOC. I think I can place the Khorne cannon in HS, but the Tzeentch flamer is up in the air for me as it could be an Elite, Fast attack or HS. Same with the Khorne throne. They are definitely more Fantasy friendly models, so where they fall is a little bit obscure to me. Guess I will have to wait.

    1. They're Definitely Fantasy orientated.

But this gave me a thought.
With the exception of the nurgle herald and the Khorne throne (which is honestly the most 40k looking model in the pics), all these models are mounted on Square bases, meaning they've been modeled to reflect fantasy.

Now I would wager that these are largely going to be pretty extensive multi-part kits (given the dual nature of 40k & fantasy usage) and we're probably not seeing all the options present within each kit. Some bits in each kit may actually make some of these models decidedly more 40k in appearance.

  39. All of these look like some conversions -.-
The herolds look nice and the flies are.. strange.
I dont like the chariots though.

Atleast I save money that way as long as there are no plastic GD (because I will not buy or field those uglyass metal/finecast models). Codex + 1 unit of flies, maybe khorne or nurgle herald.

  40. the flies are fucking overkill. To much going on on one model. There is no centre, no point that catches attention and the models are undynamic.
Just one big clusterfuck of bits.

  41. This is a big departure from the way normal models used to be. And it didnt start here. Empire, Undead, Warriors of Chaos, all have new large models that are so distinct... and IMHO ugly.

It makes me feel that GW wants to go to : Don't convert our models. For instance, that Fire on the Tzeentch Chariot, not necessary. Let the modeler do that. Since it is part of the model, does it count for LOS?

The Segway did not need too much detail. Let the green-stuffers convert away. If I did get the thing I am probably going to have to heavy convert it.

    It just looks awful.

If the flies have good rules I will get them. Otherwise I might have to suffer and buy a shitty GD.

  42. Not sure how I feel about the Plague Drones.
Chariot (???) of Khorne looks stupid and terrible.
The Heralds are cool, though I feel like I've seen the pose on the Khorne Herald before.
Tzeentch Chariot looks okay, but the green stuff on the Flamer Chariot looks like grass or something.

  43. Good to see the photos but hard to comment based on their size and quality. Would be great to get some better quality photos up when they surface.

  45. On the Khorne chariot. I'll be changing the cannon out for something a little manlier, and adding a juggernaut to pull it. The frame looks like it will work great.

Plague Flies, I like them to be honest, I think they look awful with the paint job they have. I never like GW's nurgle paint jobs.

I like both the Khorne herald and Nurgle herald and will pick each up. The Slaanesh and Tzeentch stuff I wasn't going to get anyway, but yeah, those flames look awful in that picture.

  46. These are just...ew... Being a daemon player myself i was really looking foward to the flies...but these are just terrible...the only good model is the khorne herald. None the less, since its GW ill probably walk out the store with all of them...

  47. Well, who knows what's in the book in the end - perhaps, there are also entries for 40k only like the soul grinder in the last book. So perhaps (let us hope so) something less ridiculous will come in the later waves.

  48. If you missed the pphotos before they were taken down, visit your local pet shop for aquarium decorations and you'll get a general idea of what they looked like.
