The Resistance
13th September:
Lifthawk Medium Dropship
The AT-77 Lifthawk was the most ubiquitous aerial transport vehicle of the pre-war years and many are still flying with Resistance forces today. Its muscular and robust VTOL design has made it possible to operate this workhorse from almost any secluded outpost. It is exceptionally well made, features many redundant systems and had a production cost that would be inexcusable to present day UCM military planners. By today’s standards, the Lifthawk is an enormous, bloated dinosaur. Despite being able to carry the same number of vehicles as the UCM Condor, it is over twice the weight empty. It is a gas-guzzler of legendary proportions and has a very short range compared to all its modern contemporaries.
Model 109 Breaching Drill £12.00
Tunnels are used in an offensive capacity as a fantastic springboard for surprise attacks. Strike teams usually utilise the model 109 Breaching Drill to once more open up a path to the surface, often right into the heart of enemy territory. The 109 is particularly popular as its drill heads can open up for a ramp to descend, creating a ready-made path unobstructed by the drill – essential if the element of surprise is to be maintained. Within seconds of breaching the surface, small Resistance vehicles such as technicals can begin pouring out, wreaking havoc in the enemies heartland.
M20 Zhukov £11.50
the 32mm Rail Cannon. Compared to the railguns employed by the UCM, the weapon is underpowered, massively complex, heavy and ruinously expensive, but, the Zhukov is different to modern designs in that it employs this weapon in the anti-air role. While the small calibre of the 32mm lacks punch against tanks, it is utterly devastating against slow moving aircraft. A single hit from this weapon can bring down most modern day medium dropships from long range. Its terrible rate of fire (for an AA weapon) makes it much less effective against fast movers such as fighters.
Freeriders £10.00
Freeriders form the backbone of almost any Resistance recon patrol and utilise extremely fast bikes to zip around battlefields and explore behind enemy lines. These vehicles are a wide variety of pre-war civilian models, often with a strong aesthetic element common to consumer products of the period. As there are far more discarded bikes than there are people to ride them, the supply is plentiful and individual riders are permitted to use whichever machines they choose. Normally, they pick the most expensive, fast and exotic ones they can lay their hands on, modifying them with additional armour and bolt on machineguns. Freerider bands usually attract the youngest and most reckless of Resistance fighters. A certain sense of invincibility, a death wish or sheer insanity is definitely required for those that take to the battlefield.
Occupation Veterans £9.00
Even among the toughened fighters of the Resistance, there are battle hardened individuals who have survived the crucible of combat and beaten the odds time and time again. These elite warriors are provided with the best kit available regardless of expense. Since they have been on the receiving end of Scourge weapons on countless occasions, they have a grudging respect for the superiority of the aliens’ technology. Rather than cower before it, they generally choose to turn the enemy’s weapons against them! As such, these so called ‘Occupation Veterans’ are normally equipped with looted Scourge Plasma Rifles and power backpacks. Although any human can simply pick up and use a Plasma Rifle (since they were designed for human hosts) the supply is limited.
Berserkers £9.00
Berserkers are a ragtag collection of the most crazed, psychotic, homicidal maniacs present in the armies of the most savage of Resistance warlords. Often, they go to war in a drug crazed red haze, intent on nothing but the glorious release of murderous gluttony. Sometimes, they are simply those who have looked oblivion in the face one too many times and chosen to scream back rather than break down in despair. Whatever the cause of their lust for slaughter, Berserkers are unusual and terrifying in that they are equipped only with close combat weapons. They find killing by hand and in person far more satisfying than the cold efficiency of ranged combat. Any brutal tool will do for these maniacs, although particularly messy weapons such as chainsaws, mining tools and clubs seem in vogue more than anything else. Berserkers are usually as careless with their own lives as they are merciless to the enemy; perhaps they just want their own personal daemons to claim them from their living nightmares.
