Presence of Faeit is my weekly editorial. I generally report during the week what is going on, and today is my day to comment on what exactly it is that I am thinking of. Its a day late, but late is better than skipping it this week.
First of all, if you do not have the book, and want to check it out.... head to over to the link here, and you can see my first unwrapping of all the new products for 6th edition shortly after I recieved them on Friday.

Deciphering the Rules
My plans are to start hitting the rulebook here on Faeit 212, but do it with video instead of just typing everything out for you. Of course we will still continue to do rumors and news, and in fact I may start doing some videos with regarding news and video as well. However, getting into 6th edition I want to do a series so the discussion on how those rules are being looked at are available for more people to read, and hopefully it will break down the learning curve some for the readers here. I am not going to go into those ideas now
Looking Ahead at the Future of Our Hobby
(be prepared, this is a positive post, so some of you not yet used to this site may want to avert your eyes or stop reading here)
I am deep into the game at the moment, and going through all the details so that I am ready for more games this evening. I apologize if I did not do a battle report for the games, but I literally just now today (Sunday), got my first sleep since recieving the rulebook on Friday.
I am enjoying the game tremendously thus far, and I think the rules, once I am more comfortable with them...... and do not need to look in the rulebook so much, will be far more enjoyable than 5th edition ever was.
Looking Ahead at the Future of our Game (My Take)
With all the flair of the new edition, this is what excites me the most. Here is what I see happening for us.........
White Dwarf
White Dwarf will become once again a place for us to get new rules, new units, and even new army rules. The next codex is rumored to be Chaos Space Marines... (come on and catch up if you are still calling this Chaos Legions). In it there are rumored to be no legions... however, options for new legions are still bound to occur... after all we have White Dwarf. I see these new legions coming out there, and maybe in a "chapter approved" book down the road. We saw this happen in 3rd edition.
White Dwarf is an excellent place to add new fortifications for us as well. Some Eldar or Dark Eldar towers will be fantastic to see on the battlefield.
I fully expect White Dwarf to be relevant in 6th edition. Its the best way to sell the magazines, and its the best way to keep the game moving forward and up to date.
GW going digital
Yes, we have already seen the start of this, expect it to continue. Rulebooks and codices that can be updated as the new things are being released from White Dwarf or expansions would greatly help us expand our hobby. It makes sense financially for GW, and it makes sense for us. 6th edition will really bring us up to date with the rest of our hobby.
I see the closing in on Army Builder to be part of this strategy by Games Workshop. While it does not look good from our position on the hobby as it stands, I think in the long run, if Games Workshop puts out a good supported product, it will be the benefit of the hobby.
New Paints, and Modelling Products
We have arleady seen an increase in these products just before the release of 6th edition. The paints are of a higher quality, and so far I enjoy them quite abit.
Hardback Books
The new books thus far seem to really fall into a much higher quality than the old ones. The artwork is excellent, and as I delve farther into the rulebooks, the rules are even written better. (I know we will find all the loop holes).
Codices are rumored to be going to hardback, and seeing them move to full color larger and more in depth books is exciting. That very first official 6th edition codex is going to be something to see.... I you know I will be there for you on it.
FAQ's
Everyone notice that the FAQ's were out the same day as the official release of the game? That is really incredible for Games Workshop, as I had not expected that. I was fully expecting us to flounder along without the FAQs for a few days and even up to a week before we were able to get these. Now I wish there had been a little bit more to them..........
What I would like to see.......
Updates.. What I mean is updates to codices or things that just are not working out. Let me point to a pet peave of mine.. Mandrakes from the Dark Eldar Codex. They are a shooting unit that cannot shoot. It would take one simple line of errata now to update and fix a unit that was a mistake on how it turned out. Its simple.... give it invisibility.
If we were all on an electronic version of the game, these updates would be easy, however we are not. Fixing rules problems as they come up can still be done. The FAQ section is an excellent place, its cheap and everyone goes there......... hint hint. By updating the erratas, you can also update this directly onto the digital version of the product, and our hobby will be happy.
One last thing about Mandrakes. They are one of the best looking models (of course my opinion) in the game. They are also one of the most non-usuable models we have. The Court takes a very close second.
The Future
The future of our hobby I feel has brightened, as I see a lot of great things happening to it. I am sure there is a lot more ahead of us that we cannot see yet, and do not worry, I will be here to help with rumors and news like I have been. 5th edition was fun, but was it great? it was close. I feel we are heading to a better and brighter game. In the future there is only war, and I for one will be here to be a part of it.
