  1. lol :D
if they just printed more than a few from the start it would not have sold out so fast.

Its just a pr trick to make more sales. Limit stock... then reprint makeing much higher sales due to fear of selling out again and ofc it looks good if its so good that it sold out so fast it must be worth it :D

    1. Or they really sold out of them. For crying out loud, would the anti-GW trolls just dissipate into a cloud of angry virgin basement-dwelling smoke?

    3. Considering NONE of the 'special edition' demons books sold out yet - something tells me there was a little 'mismanagement' of the situation to begin with.

Army builder is updated, so I'm happy. No book for me!.

    5. To be fair, Warlord is right. It's a common marketing practice to under-produce a hyped item. Once it sells out, people will rush to buy the next shipment, for fear that it sells out.

    6. BUT....does this reprint/newly printed batch include the updated info from the FAQ which came out days after the initial release?

  3. I like the book, in addition to rules for my flyers I can study up on what other armies bring to the table.

    1. Or just remember the stats of the 4 or so other flyers worth remembering.

    2. I apologize for being so critical, it's just such a pointless book. Nothing an FAQ couldn't do.

    3. I'm with you on that one... In fact, it SHOULD have been a FAQ.

Then don't buy it?...I think Prada bags are pretty pointless too, I don't, however, post on Prada forums about my opinion on their purses.

    5. "Dear GW, please give us rules for free, because free rules have been given away by you."

Er, wait, no they haven't. Ever. A FAQ is clarifying existing rules, not handing out new ones, or new units to existing armies. New stuff = spending money. Get over it.

    8. If someone thinks that this book is pointless and he doesn't play Black Templars, Codex Marines, or Orks, then by all means he shouldn't bother buying it and might as well stop complaining it.

I'm a Codex Space Marine player and bought the book as soon as it was available. There's a lot of material in it, with some coming from the "Aerial Assault!" issue of White Dwarf that a lot of players missed because the issue sold out so quickly. The Stormtalon's rules have been extensively changed beyond the usual FAQ and the rules allowing most Marine players to field a Stormraven are included. Many of us don't own a Grey Knights or a Blood Angels codex and have never owned the rules before.

Orks players could possibly pass on the book, although there are a few minor changes from the White Dwarf issue. All the other flyers I've compared are actually covered by their codexes and FAQs, including the Grey Knights' and Blood Angels' Stormravens. In other words, GW didn't randomly change everyone's flyers just so they would have to buy a new book.

However, "Death from the Skies" is a high quality book that gives some interesting scenarios for flyer-heavy armies, provides a convenient all-in-one update to pre-6th Edition flyers, and lets you know what your opponent might be bringing to the table.

And the $33 price was a lot cheaper than what I paid for two Stormtalons and a Stormraven.

  4. I think I'll print up the PDF of this and just hand it out to people at my FLGS. They are not happy about this release either, so I don't think they'd have a problem with it.

  6. My FLGS' manager spoke to his sales rep. about it today. Independent retailers will still be able to get a hold of it, but only after the ENTIRE backorder is processed first. So for those that like to support your local store, the chance will be there, you'll just have to wait a bit.

  8. I don't mean to bitch, but my iPad version of the Space Marine codex still hasn't been updated with new points costs of the Stormtalon and the new addition of the Stormraven.

I emailed GW asking them if it was going to be updated, but it's been two weeks, and they still haven't bothered to reply.

I bought the iPad version, despite having already owned the hard copy, precisely for this reason - if new units are addded, or existing units are changes, it would be updated. I think it's pretty disgusting they're not doing it, or at least not doing it until sales of Death from the Skies reach a critical mass.

This is definitely the last time I'll buy an iPad codex.

    1. ... I'm pretty sure it's been updated. I have screens from it that I obtained from.... a source. It's got the updated points and the entry for the 'raven. Maybe try redownloading it? :)

    2. I don't believe it auto-updates. You may have to manually tell it to update or as stated above, (Backup your iPad) then delete the codex and re-download it.

    3. You need to download the book and re-install it. Sadly, this is known bug they are working on at apple.

    4. Yes, I do this on an almost daily basis, but no cigar.

Does anyone here actually have an iPad copy of the codex which has been updated?
