Today we have a new set from the Beasts of discussing the 6th edition starter set contents. Its been rumored and rumored that it will be Chaos Marines and Dark Angels for awhile now, and here is yet another source claiming the same thing....

Please remember that these are rumors although are pretty tight as far as Chaos and Dark Angels being in the starter set now.

via Beasts of War
Chaos Powered Armoured Marines will be included, as well as the new Dreadnought (or renamed dreadnought).

On the Dark Angel side of things, Belial is in there, leading the assumption that on the Dark Angels side there might not be much powered armour. Instead it could very easily be two units of Deathwing Terminators and even some fancy new Ravenwing Jetbikes.

  1. Wow, 1st starter set to include a special character?

    1. This morning I went to GW's site to buy the metal deathwing termies and sgt andthey are no longer available! So... Starter. DW or Finecast/plastic kit coming soon?

  2. Technically the black reach captain is Cato sicarius.

    1. I think he is kinda Sicarius but not completely. There was an article in a white dwarf explaining it. Hence the lack of U iconography

  3. That's interesting. We'll see what happens.

I'm not too excited to see what shortcuts they take on casting the marines (DA or CSM) to turn them into 3-piece static-posed models, but if the bikes and dreadnought are the same as will be in new kits, I'll be happy.

    1. I understand the cynicism but I feel GW has done some of their best work in the starter sets and in the "cheap" WFB character models. It's been great value for money so far and we can expect this starter to be leaps and bounds ahead of the last one. Just consider how badly Island of Blood blew Skull Pass out of the water.

    2. IoB contained some fantastic models. Some of the best I've ever seen GW make.

    3. They'll still be three piece models with no room for creativity. I appreciate that they'll be nice sculpts, but I like to convert models, and to do that I like to have a more posable kit to begin with. And let's face it, we're not going to get any better than the three piece models because that would make them too expensive.

    4. In all fairness, the starter sets are for new (usually younger) gamers with little or no modelling experience rather than people already into the hobby. If you want to convert minis, buy the new bfb when it comes out and some plastic kits with the money you save.

    5. I know just as many veteran players who buy the starter set than the younger ones. And telling me to buy the battleforce instead is pointless, because that won't come with the rulebook.

      Delete
    6. Exactly, I have a 7k CSM army with plenty of conversions and when 6th edition comes out i'm not going to buy the rulebook when I could buy the CSM starter set for just a few bucks more, models + rulebook ftw!

    7. I agree, even if some of the models are terrible (witch they will be) some do have there merits, I was able to convert the AOBR dread in a relatively painless manner.

  4. A curious approach, to be sure, but it would make sense. That way there would be little similarity between the two starter factions.

  5. haha, tricky GW

"come here children, start playing this game... you can choose either 3+ save or 2+ save teams, thats what this game is about

oh you want to play a new team now when you have tried out the game? well then its 5+ for you my friend mohahahaha!"

no, seriously, I appreciate this rumor as well :P I think im the only one on the internet right now that likes everything im hearing of 6th

    1. Not the only one! Me too, seriously. :)

    2. I'm liking most of them as well.

One wee tiny point of contention though, don't forget that the starter set is rumored to have Cultists as well! My bet is they will be lucky if they get a 5+ save.

  6. I can remember when a 4+ save was something to be respected. The way things are going, we're going to have to start using D10's and a ten point armour save scale similar to the rest of a models profile.

    1. I wish the game did use D10's there's something about that dice...

    2. I heard that 6th Ed DOES use a D10 system!

      (just kidding)

  7. I would just like to interject a little more supporting evidence for DA being in the box set. Has anyone noticed the lack of people noticeing that the 5 snap kit marines in the new starter paint set have DA shoulders?

    Cheers

    1. Hasn't been a lack of people. It's been mentioned quite a bit here, which is the reason it was highly suspected that the DA were in the started set

  8. This is entirely a shot in the dark but based on this rumor I could see the box set working something like this:

    Dark Angels
Like the Black Reach army (10 marines able to be split in two with Combat Tactics) but the Captain has Terminator armor and a unit of bikes replaces the Dreadnought.

    Chaos Marines
Champion and a big squad of chaos marines, plus the Chaos Dreadnought and one squad of special troops, possibly Raptors?

That way both sides get a Fast Attack choice, 1-2 Troops, a Heavy/Elite choice and a HQ character each.
Again, totally a shot in the dark but that sounds like a pretty even match. No idea on the points for that but I think that could be around 500 each like Black Reach.

  9. That's hilarious, Mathias. Very fitting.

  10. DA models seem useless without a new book. If they really are getting a refresh soon, wouldn't that mean when they're released in the starter, their faction won't even have a book for sale?

A few plastic models in a box set is just a tease as well. The legion needs a lot more.

  11. Thumbs up on creativity GWS. 2 f***ing power armor armies in a starter set. Really genius. Never saw that coming with the way 5th edition was...

    ReplyDelete
  12. GREAT!!! I already use Dark Angles in my Chaos army.. I CANT WAIT!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Two powered armies are so stupid. No one cares about dark angels, their terrible and the fanboys need to stop wanking in hopes of a new codex. Chaos is retarted. Npothing is wrong with the codex so quit bandwagoning!

    1. So, Negative Nancy, what codex do you use?

      Delete
    2. Friekin regular space marins and not some dumb ass op chapter with its own codex as well as necrons, and dark eldar.

      Delete
    3. Someone's got their Strawberry Shortcake panties in a bind. Everyone who's using an old dex wants a new. Can you really blame them?

      Delete
    4. Well since you say you play regular space marines, you can thank all of us Dark Angels players. Since the writers at GW used the Dark Angels codex as a basis for the way the new space marine codex was going to be done. You got all the same options in your regular space marine squads that we got but at cheaper point costs and some new wargear options that we didn't get. So, in retrospect, you need to tone it down a bit and realize that we need anew codex(as does Chaos)to make us as competitive as all the new codex's. your codex will most likely not get a update anytime soon as your codex is fine the way it is right now. Give it an errata update with 6th edition and it is on par with all the most recent books. Ta Ta

    5. Not "their terrible". "They are", or if you have to "they're"

  14. This may be a litte of topic, but why are HALF the fing codexs out there the emperium? HALF have frekin power armour? And why are 6 OUT OF 14 the same fing codex under a different name and just more op?

  15. Businesses need to make profits. SPEHSS MAHREENS! sell. End of story, really. Unless 6th makes Tau/Nids/Chaos the new Face of 40k.

I match your Troll with my Troll Slayers >:D

  16. this guy hates that the new starter set is gonna be power armour throughout, yet he plays vanilla marines? hypocrite much?

    ReplyDelete
  17. From a business-y point of view I can see the advantage of selling two 'marine armies; fewer models per side. Because each model has a fairly high points value, each army could only have 20 or so models in it (or less). Compare this to the Black Reach box and it's 26 orks (plus jetbikes). By lowering the number of models you can lower the cost of parts casting per box and pass those savings off to the customer. This could mean that the new box will be a shade cheaper than the last (shot in the dark).

If they had two armies of 'cheap' troops, say Imperial Guard vs. Tyranids, you'd need twice as many models to match the 500 points starter sets seem to go by. That could be prohibitively expensive both for manufacture and the end-buyer.

    1. it will be the same price if not more, knowing GW,this means they get a bigger profit.

  18. At the bear, gws never lowers prices... second, i have a feeling that all these comments by anonymos are not the same

  19. I don't know. I still just don't see two power army factions in the signature boxset.

    ReplyDelete
  20. They are going to put cultists in for chaos. So the box is going to have 2+ 3+ and proably 5+ or 6+ armor types. That should be fine.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hey guys, has anyone considered that this time out they might have the option of 'different' starters? Perhaps the DA set has the Cultists, and the PA chaos (marines) are in a separate option box vs IG? Jus a thought. There ARE two collectors ed. sets..

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Seriously x2 different starter sets. I once heard a BS rumour that they would be separate box sets i.e. you buy DA your mate buys chaos you each have a 500 point army and a rule book, but mate think your having a moment with your head in the clouds or your waking up with a stain on your crotch either way its some kind of dream!!!
