Its not often we finally hear of something the actual day before or day of a release, but here it is. I have a few small bits of information and rumors for today, so check back, and I will get to them all.

via Brother Dimetrius over at Warseer got this from a GW (Belgium) facebook
"On the afternoon of Friday 19th October we will be releasing a variety of direct only bundles for Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 and The Lord of The Rings. These bundles offer our customers fantastic value and are a great opportunity for them to add to their miniatures collections."

This could be anything or just something boring because old. (I still don't know what that was supposed to mean) -.-

      I meant boring

And it's probably just paints or brushes; something for all the hobbyists! :D

      **Fixed it for you.**

"Boaring" is this the act of hunting boars? "Smth" I kept reading as "smith" until I considering you dropping more than half the letters of "something". Please take more than 3 seconds to post something. You are wasting more time from everybody else by saving yourself a few seconds. That's quite selfish.

  9. Or on the optimistic side...it could be a bundle on par with the Windrider Host that was soooooo badass and yet I managed to purchase only one.

  10. If this was April 1st, I would feel better about this announcement. Anything with GW and "These bundles offer our customers fantastic value" should have at least a grain"ery" of salt.

    1. YES, thank science, THIS.

I don't want you to talk to me when I walk into your store. You stand behind your counter and say NOTHING to me until I talk to you. Any time the store manager at my local GW says something to me when I walk in (wearing large, visible headphones that are noise cancelling), I just say, if I wanted your opinion I'd ask and walk out of the store. Leave customers alone, especially if they are wearing headphones.

    2. What a charmer.

    3. A simple greeting is often required by companies, Subway for instance has a rule that the employees must always greet a customer within 10 seconds of entering. The reason is that many studies have shown that a greeting makes the customer feel more welcome, more likely to buy something, and less likely to steal.

Basically Ian, stop being an antisocial twit, and appreciate that there is a person who likes what you like so much he works at the store on a daily basis. Maybe you'll make a friend!

    4. Talking to someone with headphones on is rude, especially when they're just trying to sell you crap. GW thinks having a high pressure sales staff on their floors is good for them, in reality its alienating. My FLGS is far better, and I'm only ever in GW when time is tight and its the nearest storefront. The shop also manages to stock barely more than its game store competitors, they don't even have a librarian on the shelves.

    5. CasuallyCaustic, he's not saying hello, he's trying to pressure me into purchasing something, they all do it, and its ridiculous. I haven't had a good experience in a GW store since the Battle Bunker in Glen Burnie closed, because GW has changed how they train their staff and the now walk up to you and start pestering you. This isn't someone standing behind the corner, they walk up to you and start talking to you about what you are looking for and start pushing products on you.

      Delete
    6. standing behind the corner = standing behind the counter

    7. For GW staff, especially newbies, they are given a ten point 'minimum conversation' they must have with each and every potential customer who walks into a store. If they're caught not doing it, they can be fired. Everyone's got to make ends meet dude! It sucks and they know it, but is it really that hard to go through the motions with them? I've found that a token sale everytime I go in (like a brush or pot of paint) lets them ease up as they know I'm not 'wasted space' as the Nottingham Overlords must surely view 'browsers'!

      Delete
    8. Exactly my point Jon, I don't put up with crap like that from AT&T or Best Buy, why would I put up with it from GW? If they want my sale, they have to back off. I have never purchased something after the store manager has approached me, but when he's been busy with someone else, I will gladly spend money. Businesses live and die by their customers, their current approach loses my sales every time. If I bought something, would I not be encouraging this behavior?

    9. Wanna say good morning, afternoon, evening, fine. I can deal with that. But when they hound you, follow you and pick something, oh you play those guys? How's about... like Ian said, if I wanted an opinion, I would have asked for one.

    10. It is a pain
Spezially if you are in the Hobby for long
But New customers will See it as Service
Its really Said GW Stores are Run like that
But their main Biss is New Players & Not Veterans that only want to Play & dont BuY :D
They want you to Start the Game BuY a Big Army and then Start the next Army or piss Off

      Delete
    11. Ian, how hard is it to smile and say hello back? you brag about being a complete jerk like it's something to be proud of.

      Delete
    12. Anon, please rerelease my above posts, I'm not going to repeat myself, this isn't about me being a jerk (I'm a customer who clearly does not want to engage in a conversation), and the manager isn't saying hi, this is about sales tactics that are infuriating. GW's stores don't deserve your business when they act like that.

      Delete
    13. Some would deem it rude to walk into a shop with headphones in incase someone does greet you.

Being an arse to them doesn't help your case. Saying that you're fine and just browsing sends them packing, if it works for me at warhammer world but doesn't for you at your local store you must really look like a push over.

If you're a vet to the hobby and you go in, you probably know exactly what you want anyway, at least I do. They greet me, I say "Hi, I'm after x y z", they say "great" and go get them for me, I pay, I leave. Maybe with a bit of chin wag as I pay if I'm in the mood for it and the staff member doesn't look like a muppet. No faffing about, in, out, straight to the point, simple. If you go in and start looking at boxes blankly, of course they will assume you're new and may need some advice or coaxing into buying something.

So why not act like a reasonable, polite and respectable person and treat others the way you would like to be. I bet you would be up in arms if a staff member came up to you and said "what the **** do you want, either buy something or get out" as thats essentially the same attitude you take with them.

Dear god people like you make me angry, it takes no effort to fake a smile and be polite for a few seconds yet you still can't manage it. The staffer may think you look like the biggest tosspot that they've seen that year but they'll still be polite and respectable to you and you can't even make the effort back.

I mean this genuinely, you do not deserve to be a part of society.

    14. Hey anon, piss the fuck off. Ian does not want to be pressed into conversation. The 'managers' are commanded to use a very specific approach on any bipedal unit that enters the store. While they do not have an option to avoid this angle for fear of losing their job it still is an awful way of going about doing business. Just for the record, they are trained to practically say "what the fuck do you want, either buy something or get out".

      Delete
    15. My god what a pair of prats! Sorry but the anon above gets this perfectly right. I mean if you want to walk into a store that sells the hobby you love and is staffed by people that love it just as much and ignore everybody in their why go in at all? Think the website is the place for you Ian. You don't have to talk to anyone so you will be happy. Of course you won't get to play your games with your soldiers because you cant play this game solo. And headphones or I hate you leave me alone flags, make it harder to hear your opponent.
I mean really wtf nobody works at gw for the pay . They work there because they fraking love the hobby. The training that staff are given is not about how to make a sales pitch its about how to have a conversation about the hobby with somebody you have never met, and how to help out someone who knows nothing about it. Some of the best games I have ever had have been at my local gw the guys their really know their shit! Stop being an ass Ian if you tried that shit at my local I think the regulars would linch you!

    16. You clearly didn't actually read what I wrote, if you got that impression WTF, the store manager is there to pester you into buying. I have never had one one leave me alone when I walk into the store, unless there is another customer that is more pliable. This has been my experience in every GW store for about the last 2 years, and it wasn't the case when I started playing 40k again 5 years ago. The training changed and suddely the staff refuse to let customers shop. As I've stated, I dunno, 4 times already, I have 4 other hobby shops I go to that are amazing, the staff are incredibly nice and understand how to deal with customers, and I give them money every time I go into the store. I play games at those stores (because the GW stores are basically kiosks with 2 tables, and barely any stock over the flgs'), I hang out there, they are wonderful. GW has managed to produce a storefront that makes people who actively give the company hundreds and thousands of dollars on an annual basis don't want to go to. Its idiotic. And I'm not going to take my headphones off in a store, I don't have to do it anywhere else, and no one minds, GW is the only place where there is someone forcing a conversation, not just a salutation. High pressure sales is the bane of retail and it makes customers resent the merchant. If GW doesn't realize thats what they're doing, they're idiots.

(and anon, I'm glad you can make such a leap from a person treating a business like a rational actor and not rewarding the douchiest sales tactics in the world, I'd rather not live in your society where everyone has to march in lock step with what YOU think is polite. I. AM. GIVING. THEM. MONEY. They have to meet MY standard, that is ALL that matters, and if they do something that bothers me, I don't buy)

    17. Hi Ian and everyone that replied.
I am a GW manager and whilst I appreciate that being said hello to when wearing headphones might be very offensive to you, It is just us being polite and quickly ascertaining if you need any help or know what you want. However, If you ever find yourself in my shop and tell me that "if I wanted your opinion I'd ask" just think of what an impression that would make and consider the staff's thought's when I told you that you weren't welcome anymore. There is a big difference between letting the staff paid to look after you and the environment you are in know that you don't wish for their help, and being a rude idiot. The latter isn't welcome

There's big news from the Black Library today - Angel Exterminatus, the latest novel in the Horus Heresy series is now available to advance order, both from the Games Workshop website and as part of an exclusive bundle deal from the Black Library. This stunning hardback novel is the first of a new breed of Horus Heresy books - a chunky tome complete with a gorgeous full-colour dust-jacket, a wrap-around cover featuring the cover art, an afterword from the author, Graham McNeill, and four exclusive pieces of artwork by Karl Richardson to accompany Perturabo's epic quest for the eponymous Angel Exterminatus.

  18. I remember in my local gw that I was considering starting a dark elf army and the guy in the store tried to get me to buyisland of blood to start a high elf army after the dark elves! I don't mind them trying to sell to me but at least try to sell me the army I am looking for!

Never did that dark elf army in the end!

  19. Actually, this could be something entirely limited to Belgium.

I was in Zurich recently, and when I was walking down the Banhoffstrasse, I am across a sign for 40k stuff at half off.

After buying a ridiculous amount of stuff, I did get to speaking with a manager. Apparently, they were liquidating their stock, not just because of the new edition, but because they were going to stop carrying GW products.

I asked him if there was a way he could sell me anything remaining when they got down to the last batch. He told me no, everything was going back to GW.

Franz Carl Weber is a toy store, sort of like a high end Toys R Us. They are also a distributor in Northern Europe, they supply other stores with their stock. It's entirely possible this 'bundling' is the remnants of that liquidation effort.
