Tonight we have a some rumors hitting regarding Greater Daemons and Furies. Apparently we are getting an update, which I expect (contrary to popular rumor mongers) that it will be a White Dwarf insert update. The kind that we are seeing more of lately.

Please remember that these are rumors. Stickmonkey has been on fire lately in a rather dead rumor mill. So a huge thanks goes out to him for keeping some flow coming.

Furies. They have been redone, they are coming for Daemons, they look so much better than the current models. The question will be if their rules make them worth it. They are about Nid Gargoyle sized, maybe a bit larger. Bat wings. Much more daemonic heads with toothy maws in 2 parts like the horrors and bloodletters. Not the bat men of old. Dual kit with a new ground based daemon, much like the vargheist/crypt horrors (which I've mentioned before).

There are a lot of questions winging my way about the GD. So to try to address those:
1. I don't know for sure all 4 will be released at once or if they will be in waves.
2. I have conflicting rumors they are moved to the oval base and are roughly the size of the beastmen gorghon, vs staying on the 60mm round bases. Based on my personal eyes on on WIP before, they are bigger. The Greater Unclean One was not as big as the FW model, but its bigger than a dreadnought. My source says the Greast Unclean One is the best looking of the new models, that it is "absolutely rot, in a good way".
3. The Blood Thirster should be slightly shorter than the dreadknight. stylewise it hasnt changed much.
4. The Keeper of Secrets is the most changed style wise. Does not go towards the FW model or retain the style of the current GW model. Still very slaaneshi
5. The Lord of Change AFAIK is the tallest of the models, not just due to the wings. Did not appear as hunched as before. Head options include a more fishy looking option.

  1. Cool. The metal ones look so hokey compared to newer models they have done. Glad to hear they are getting a revamp soon

  2. I would be shocked if they were not on oval bases.

    1. Although, I'm pretty excited if these turn out to be true. Really interested to hear what kind of god specific daemons might come out in the new books.

    2. The more the merrier, but I'm still waiting for them to put out affordable, attractive minis for Fiends of Slaanesh.

    3. Well, no one's forcing you to buy them... I personally love all the work they're doing with new models. They're gorgeous, and make the old stuff look like something a child made.

  4. Great news.

I'm very hopeful for a whole new codex, but still not holding my breath.

I love the idea of new Furies & Greater Daemons. Particularly the Greater Daemons. My only real concern is the size. I run a relatively small Bloodthirster (from a Be'Lakor, which is small compared to Daemon Princes), and that guy is a complete bullet sponge. I'm not totally sure what would happen if he was almost twice the size, and even more menacing looking.

    1. Fiends of slaanesh really need help, the ones they have now looks abysmal. (http://warhammerinprogress.blogspot.ca/2011/12/slaanesh-army-progress-chaos-space.html) This looks like an easy and attractive conversion you can do though.

    2. If you dont mind non GW models, Privateer press makes a model "Legion of Everblight Teraph", which I have seen others use to sub in as fiends of Slaneesh. They look dragon like and have the apropriate amount of limbs, minus the boobies.

    3. I like Privateer Press' stuff, but due to some psychological illness I can't bring myself to use non-GW minis or bits for my Warhammer armies.

If I feel an inescapable need for fiends I'll probably go and convert Daemonette torsos & Goblin spiders into driders. I haven't seen it done well yet, but I have a few ideas on how to make it work for me.

  5. As long as the KoS does not go the way of the new daemonettes, I'd be okay with it.
Overall, I, too, would be surprised if the greater daemons weren't on oval bases, considering GW's love for all things huge as of late.

    1. I dont think increasing the model or base size does anything worth while if they arent given any more survivability. Heck you can bolter a greater demon to death.

  6. I will be pretty annoyed if it is a White Dwarf update - I missed the last one, and even if I had it, with two White Dwarf updates the codex will be as much WD as actual codex. If it's true that all back issues of WD are destroyed after the month they were released, then it will just mean that the official updates are even harder to obtain.

    1. does anybody know if they plan to release digital versions of the WD updates?

    2. Cry me a river says the sisters of battle. Just saying, I would rather get some updates to rules or units that are not being used than have them sit on the shelf.

The Keeper of Secrets is in need of some help - so is the GUO. They are so outclassed by the new flyers and T6 4++ 4W does not go that far. Furies have been in need of help since Day 1.

I am sure there are some SM players who would like to see an updated to their Devastators or Tyranids who want to see something else for pyrovores.

    3. There is a digital version of the WoC update, and I believe digital editions remain on sale indefinitely for most of the other magazines.

  7. Any news on if they will be combo kits with the named GD? And if so, what will happen to Fateweaver and will Slaanesh get a named GD too?
I remember that being mentioned a while back somewhere but not sure if that was more assumption than rumour.

  8. Slaanesh seems to be 'tickled' pink this edition. That and Tzeentchian daemons have always been fishy :P

  9. Over the last months my local non-GW hobby store doesn't get the normal order of White Dwarfs. They promise but then don't deliver. August never arrived, September did and now it seems, despite, like in August, repeated promises by GW has not been delivered yet.
Anyway, are WD supplements should official? As in: you can't play an official tournament if you don't have them or an opponent can make you follow them? Anything outside the rulebook, codex and downloadable errata/changes get treated like house rules by me: only usable if all players in a game agree.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. the white dwarf supplements are changes to the codex and take precedence over the entries in the codex so yes they are GW official and you would be counted as cheating, all be it against yourself, if you played them the old way

      Delete
    2. So you basically have to buy White Dwarf and if you are too late for one reason or another you're screwed. Official stuff should be available for as long as it is official. Suppose you discover GW in 6 months from now, where are you going to find the add-on rules? But that's just an opinion.

Now I see why they frustrate independent retailers, you have to buy a subscription. I really try to support my local stockist by buying as much as possible there. But through GW way of doing things I already missed 2 issues, breaking a one year streak. You can't backorder them either. What to do? I don't want to look for pirated versions but I'm almost forced to.

Worst is, I'm a big chaos fan and I missed the Daemons issue because of the inability of GW to properly send stockists what they ordered. Strangely a promise is not the some as the actual goods. It's getting harder and harder to stick with GW. If I hadn't invested so much already....... *starts thinking about creating homemade lists to use GW models in Mantic's Warpath - hmmm, Veer-min*

      Oh well.

    3. Yeah man I agree. Today I was looking for all those old WD they used to have up on the site... SoB being an example, are now unplayable to people who refuse to pirate. They should really be provided free online until they get a codex imo. But that's beyond the point you made is why can't we still buy it 6 months later? They are really kicking themselves in the pants. I want SoB allies maybe? Not anymore lol I'll stick to what's on the shelves at my local store(not GW)

    4. Why all this moral quandary about downloading a small amount of supplementary material for free, especially sine the reason you didn't get it in the first place is because of GW?

You would be downloading a copy of supplemental information necessary for an army to be legal. When the only viable source of this information is for free from someone who took the time to make it available to more players, why worry?

You're obviously a GW customer who buys lots of their stuff and props up their ever expanding company. I'm pretty sure they have more to worry about than a few people downloading a few pages from a magazine than now costs more than £5 now.

You could even send them a donation with a letter telling them what a heinous thing you have done in using your initiative to get your hands on supplemental material that makes your army up to date and is better to play with therefore enticing you to buy more models for that army.

Though instead I'm sure they'd rather have information about a certain group in the Russian Federation who are actually doing them out of pocket to a small extent.

Not to mention the irony of commenting on a website that brings you pictures from the very magazines/codices you don't want to download unlawfully. It also brings you rumours from people close to GW which is obviously a breach of contract for the GW employees who are leaking the information to the people providing it on this site. I don't really see either as wrong, but for some reason one is okay and one is not in your view and I just don't understand that.

I'm not condoning or condemning the free access to material that ought to be paid for. I'll keep my opinion on that to myself. What I am condoning is being capable of accessing information that would not be found anywhere else, except maybe ebay, and none of the money would be going to GW there either.

    5. Well pal it's a little late to be keeping opinions to yourself. I don't want to download because I don't want a virus, pretty sure that's easy to understand. Too much crap out there to be trusting anyone for a reliable resource.

    6. Oh and faeit is okay because I am not forced to download anything by just reading this blog. Downloading viruses is the only difference to me if you didn't get that from my previous post.

    7. Gentlemen, having owned a indie shop for years I hate to break it to ya, but I think your LGS are giving you a line of rubbish. It is the LGS responsibility to order items for release date ON TIME. This includes WD and new models. Its also in the hands of your LGS to make sure they order a proper amount. Seems to me they are just using GW as a scape goat for them dropping the ball. Just a little insight for you all:)

      Delete
    8. Saying GW is perfect is as bad as saying the LGS was at fault.

I'm pretty certain GW dropped the ball on one of the SoB WD that my LGS (Fantasy Flight EC) had prdered something like 6 extra of due to being the SoB codex. They never got them, ever. The person who does the ordering generally does a great job, so it's not likely he did it wrong (but always possible I guess).

People haven't been able to order Epidemias lately either I guess. So GW has issues at least a fair amount of the time, but it isn't always their fault correct.

I know the local shop very well. It is also close to my gameclub. GW stuff is an easy sell for him, especially White Dwarfs. Everything was peaches and cream until August. He can order most of the catalogue but delivery is stalling.

    10. go to scribd. they often have all of the codexies and the white dwarf addons. no viruses, because you dont download anything. honestly, you only get viruses from being stupid with your download habits. if you are anything less than 55 you have no excuse in your ignorance on the matter.

      Delete
    11. I'll check out scribd but I still don't like doing it. It's not about ignorance its about having a reliable safe site advertised to get people either into/ back into the game for the army that sparked thre interest... Not the next one that was "available". Unless I am missing something there is no way currently toget a WD SoB, Blood angels etc.. From a GW retailer or GW themselves. Kinda sucks that's all I'm trying to say. That and I don't want virus. No ignorance at all :)

    12. And virus can come from any site btw. Good to know if you're just cruising around random forums and what not. Just like herpes bud.

    2. So I have time to build a CSM army and then start with Daemons and have them team up against the emperor's lapdogs. Tres awesome.

    3. The name Warp Stalker kinda bugs be for two reasons: 1. There's a World of Warcraft monster named that already and 2. They just released a unit called Warp Talons.

The name just seems little trite, and doesn't really tell a story about the daemon or it's role.

Just saying they could get a bit more creative with the titles. Something that tells a story just be reading the name:
Witherwings, Gibberbeasts, Lascivians, Butcher Grubs, Shiver Sirens, Ataxians, or Feverkind.

  12. It seems that a lot of people don't know but the FW greater daemons have specific rules in Imperial Armour 2. The FW Keeper of secrets is named Zarakynel and costs 666 points. Thats why the GW ones DON'T need an oval base.

  14. Depends if you want more flamers and screamers go Tau allies. If you want more Rail guns and such, go Daemons allies. Personally (and when hell froze over!), I'd go Tau allies as Tau have quite a bit of ranged shooting and options just from 1 HQ and troops.

    1. That's because they don't intend for people to do that. It's codex Daemons, not codex Nurgle, or Tzeentch, or whatever.

  16. Any new rumours about the flying monstrous creature for the Daemons?

I realise the Bloodthirster, Lord of Change and flying Daemon Princes are flying monstrous creatures. But I'm sure I read somewhere of a flyer for Daemons.
