Armybuilder has been rather hard for people to update these last few months, so I have decided that it would help the community to have access to them. Not to mention that Lone Wolf Development just updated it to 1.09 now.

Now I love army builder. For me its a faster and direct way to build my lists. I always think knowing your codex is much more valuable to people, but being able to build and see lists down quickly is highly advantageous.

I do hope that Games Workshop comes out with a product to do this, and I for one would be purchasing it. So GW mark one down on the sales for me.

Please remember that in general there are sometimes mistakes or things that do not work on armybuilder, but it is a great tool. Know your codex, know your points, and check them. Army builder does not replace owning a codex.

    1. GW sorry my friend, GWs army builder would be $99.95 ipad only, and charge $59.95 for any update they put out. And sew everyone else that tried to make it better, or triedc to make their only version.

    2. And they would sue them too!! ;)

  3. Fantastic, I've been trying to find a way/place to reliably know when the data files have been updated now that my license has expired. Thanks Natfka!

  4. GW did try putting out their own Army Builder software a number of years ago, it failed...doubt that they would do that again, considering they constantly say the game is not meant for Tourney play...but who knows they may smell money in it and go after it again.

    1. The time might not have been right at that point.

What I would suggest they do is make a program that cost a small amount of money, and that you get a code with purchase of a codex. Not sure how to implement it for current dexes though, maybe a one time fee or something.

Honestly they should combine all their efforts into a multi medium. Sure we can get the iPad codices... but only in certain countries and also only on the iPad, this is not a very good market strategy imo.

    2. They could definitely put something like this out now, and if it was anywhere near as well built as the psychic powers app, it would function great. Of course, they could always screw it up with limitations, the way they did with the psychic powers app.

  5. If it was reasonable ie you pay a flat rate for the program, and then pay a bit extra for the digital dex to unlock the army profile in the program then they could mark me down as a sale too.

  6. If this is the same update I downloaded this weekend it has all the new Chaos stuff in but someone forgot to add the Fortifications from the core rule book to the library :(

It's the little things that ruin a good surprise.

    1. That was .8, hopefully it's fixed in this one! There were no options for Veterans of the Long War, and Dimensional Key required a weapon swap.

  11. Note that Lone Wolf Development does not update the 40k data files (or any data files for that matter). The 40k files are updates by the guys at http://www.ab40k.org.

If you've got an expired account like me, the link to the latest data file is usually up on the Lone Wolf site here: http://www.wolflair.com/rightframe.php?context=army_builder&page=supplemental_downloads

They also have a data file repository and it can be setup to update these automatically.

  15. Army build is great, love using it. Makes tinkering with lists so much easier. Naftka is totally right, learn your dex. I would add though, this can really help you do that if you make sure to cross reference and will occasionally find AB had it wrong. But honestly, if you think you will get good without reading and re-reading the rulebook, your codex, and your opponents codices; you're wrong. Learn the game, learn your army, know your enemy.

    1. Oh please. If you are going to be rude crude and show the classic signs of a drama queen you get deleted.

Read above you, there are plenty of critiques about army builder and GW above that have not been deleted.

If you want the drama, there are some forums that will love you, and I can direct you to the appropriate ones if you need it.

  17. What was GWs Army builder?
Was around 4th edition i think. Old roommate hate both the "good guys" amd "bad guys" discs. But GW seemed to NEVER update.

  18. I reckon that if GW does put out an army builder it will be army specific and part of the digital codex release. Financially, it would not make any sense to do anything different, and any errata/ amendments could be made on the fly.

I have heard that legal wheels were turning against companies like lone wolf (I think from this site but can't remember specifically), which suggests its going to happen.

As for the previous GW builder failing, it did and it didn't. It was an all in one product on a cd that ment you printed your lists off at home first which many people did, however, technology has moved on and I would expect anything released now would enable you to build, save, transfer and print lists on the go.

    1. Spoke to the digital media team at uk gamesday specifically about a gw army builder. And whilst he didn't confirm it his words were "if we were to do one it would need to work with all of the current rules. So allies and fortifications." So it wouldn't be a single codex builder but a general one off product.
