    1. I played a game yesterday with a mob of 35 plague zombies. They were a rotting, fleshy speed bump (and actually killed a tyrant guard on the charge) but otherwise were easily killed by my opponent, though they did hold up two of his units for 2 turns. They are T3 and anything with S6 can insta-kill them, but they fun to play...as long as you have no issue commiting your models to their doom.

      Delete
    2. Just wait till you field 210 of them! I'm thinking typhus, 210 zombies, 3 vindicators, 2 helldrakes, and a hellbrute for my list.

      Delete
    3. Who really has 200-400 models to use? And in TO where proxies aren't alowed your screwed.

      Delete
    4. Now you cant take Zombies at all. lol, RAW.

      Delete
    5. Um..... Not even sure that deserves a response.

      Delete
    6. Haha, Natfka. Wasn't it you who said there is no such thing as RAI? Well presently the entire plague zombie entry reads: "Plague Zombies are Chaos Cultists that have the
Fearless, Feel No Pain and Slow and Purposeful special rules and cannot purchase options other than to add additional models to the unit."

Do you see any way there to take them? Any points value or FoC? No? Well there you have it, RAW=no zombies :P

      Delete
    7. Uh....yes I do. They are Chaos Cultists. Is English your second language?

      Delete
    8. Yeah... Leon, i believe you are living up to your last name and need to just stop please, it is horribly drab and pointless. Walk away.

      Delete
    9. Peace, peace. Wasn't meaning to pick a fight. Just poking fun at a sloppily worded errata. It's pretty clear what is meant.

      Delete
    10. @Anon : I'm thinking about working on @ 100 or so of them, but honestly after yesterdays game, I'd say 2 units of 35 for speed bumps and then other units with some actual firepower. I had a unit of 21 cultists and a Dark Apostle in the game and they did a great job of laying down harrassing fire(granted- they hid in a building for half the game)... just for giggles, I gave the Apostle the Black mace and he killed a Hive tyrant. But, really... you'll need some firepower the zombies can't provide. I have learned to love the Hades Autocannon armed Forgefiend too. Definitely, the Helldrakes (though I intend to use Blight Drones instead of the metal chickenhawk model)

      Delete
    11. The 210 zombie guy is a douche.

      Delete
    12. Maybe He is
but 210 Zombie apocalypse will Take names ;)

      Delete
    13. I usually play 2000 pts and really don't have any interest in taking 210 zombies. Now, 420 zombies on the other hand....

      Delete
    14. So if this is the entire change I don't read anywhere that says "Zombie Cultists" can't shoot. Does that mean they can now shoot the weapons they come with? They obviously can't buy any weapon upgrades but the rule now says nothing about restricting their shooting ability.

      Delete
    15. "They are armed with a single close combat weapon-any guns are used strictly for the purposes of clubbing their victims to death." Seems pretty clear to me.

      Delete
    16. No, because RAW the wording about the guns has been replaced. The errata don't specify any sentence to be changed, so they must refer to the whole section under the heading 'plague zombies'.

(this also means that RAW you have no way to take plague zombies at all)

      Delete
    17. I actually have enough Converted plague zombies to have 3 35 man squads (I actually converted them to look like Dead Space Necromorphs with gaunt scything talons) so at 150 points for 35 zombies its a really cheap tarpit option.

just a shame they dont turn others into zombies on a roll of a 6.

  3. Also they did not clarify on Abbadon joining units...which isnt a problem for me but those rule lawyers dont quit

    1. The only problem with rules lawyers is that they are often wrong.

      Delete
    2. Why can't abbadon join units? He has independent character rule?

      Delete
    3. If an IC has a mark of a god he may not join a unit that has a different mark.

Failadon has all 4 marks. No matter what cult unit he joins he has 3 diffferent marks compared to them.
I think it's an oversight though and he can join any unit. But the arguments will continue until 1.1a!

Personally I'm upset there's no EW for DP's yet (Abaddon turning into a deamon prince he would lose his EW!)

      Terabyt3

      Delete
    4. I agree that it's a question that should have been clarified. I actually think though that it might be intentional, requiring you to stick him with unmarked units if you want an escort.

      Delete
    5. I am not looking at the rules now but if

"If an IC has a mark of a god he may not join a unit that has a different mark."

is the wording then there isn't a mark the a unit can have that Abbadon does not, so I do not see the problem. If it's really "a unit can not be joined by a model with a different mark", then he couldn't.

      Delete
    6. I agree, Anon! The wording is fine as I read it. Abbadon has all 4 marks. Made up unit A has the mark of nurgle. Abbadon has the mark of nurgle. The squad does not have a different mark from Abbadon. Abbadon can join the squad. If it were "A unit cannot be joined be a character with a different mark" then we would have a problem, but that doesn't appear to be the case. The responsibility, if you will, falls to Abbadon whether or not he can join squads, not the squad itself, and since he has all four marks, it seems to me that the RAW is, while misleading at first, just fine.

      Delete
    7. Abaddon being unable to join marked squads might be intentional, since Abaddon serves Chaos Undivided would likely have his closest men be purely undivided as well.

      Delete
    8. Anon and Bryan are right here. If it was the other way round, and said 'units with marks may not be joined by ICs with different marks', there would be a problem. As it is Abaddon is good to go.

    2. a grand 5 points. that's not much. It's basicly saving me 5 points o the model I already have. I don't see this as a major change... Though the fact that they DID change it is kind of amazing! That opens a whole new window of possibilities for balance adjustments in the future.

I wish they would have clarified if a unit of Noise marines can take a blast master under 10 men. I have seen it argied both ways, and honestly, I'm not 100% as to how it should be interpreted.

      Delete
    3. Anyone else feel a little apprehensive about this?

It does open a new window of possibilities regarding balance adjustments, but does anyone trust GW to actually use it for that purpose rather than to sell more of unit/model X?

"No one's buying our Mutilators! Make em 40 points each!"

    4. Apparently CSM codices in other languages have the Helbrute at 100pts, meaning that the ones sold in english were a misprint. I'm sure some of our spanish or other language players know for sure and can chime in.

    5. You're right, the german codex said already 100pts, only the in english one the hellbrute was more expensive.

    1. Pretty much anywhere you went, these were the main questions being thrown up. With the bashing this codex has gotten pretty much everywhere, they really had to be on the ball else loose a lot of CSM players. They still and need to do a lot more though to lessen the disappointment with this release.
A much better 2nd wave of models might help with that but they need to be quick about it.

    6. 255 points? Hey, I'd sure take it! Although I do like what was done to the DP, priced right in the sweet spot between auto-include and deadweight.

      Delete
    7. Oh, I forgot to mention he has a demon weapon, so it's more like an average of 12-13 attacks on the charge.

      Delete
    8. @Brian Boateng- ok first off, they don't ignore difficult terrain. They have Move Through Cover, which doesn't help with moving through terrain during an assault. Also even if it did ignore terrain, the BRB FAQ says that they still hit at init 1 but roll 2 dice as normal for the random charge.

    12. @Bryan Boetang

That changed in the 6th FAQ (p3, halfway down right hand column). Even units with the ability to move through cover (Beast, MTC USR, etc) still strike at I1 unless they are carrying assault grenades. So as it stands currently a lowly CSM will strike at profile initiative but a DP will strike at I1. Not great but thems the rules!

  15. Anyone stupid enough to have already ripped their arms off terminators need to take a chill pill. That was obviously not proofread enough, just like the zombies, just like they will do with Abbadon. I the zombies are used correctly they are a wonderfully efficient tool. I played three squads of 20 and just used them to camp objectives, spread em out so no flyers could even land close To my deployment zone and no blast templates would be that effective. I didn't loose a single zombie and won the game vs GK. Typhus and the nurgle termies wrecked face, and a squad of plague marines took out a chimera, coteaz With an inquisitor and purifier squad for the WIN! Muahahahaha

    1. They make great fleshy speedbumps too. I put 35 in front of a pimped out Hive Tyrant (with 3 tyrant guard) and they kept him and his guard occupied for 2 turns. Even killed one of the guards. My opponent rushed in a unit of Hormagaunts to finish them off, but it effectively kept the Tyrant on the wrong side of the table most of the game and he did nothing relavant. So using them offensively can work too.

    1. If anything, it proves that the rule was written incorrectly, and before the errata there was indeed a limitation of 10. So no need to celebrate, it was very much assumed it would be corrected, but until an errata or faq is published, we play by the rules as they are.

      Delete
    2. same as the helbrute. For those people that had access to other language codices and were playing helbrutes at 100pts instead of the 105pts us english speakers had to pay.

      Delete
    3. I am with Anon on this. If someone is just so much of a stick in the mud to not get that's how it was SUPPOSED to be, why bother playing with them?

      Delete
    4. I love how people bash on those who follow rules. In a friendly game, I couldn't care less. I knew it was supposed to be 35 max. But in tournaments, there has to be a standard. The rules had to be followed to the letter.

And yet people complain that tourneys change the rules themselves (which I don't abide by fyi) to exclude allies and double FoC among others. What a double standard. People want tourneys to keep the rules as they are but when it comes to a situation like with those of the zombies, they want to change it.

We guessed (and rightly so) that the zombies were supposed to be taken in 35. It was going to get errata'd. So don't get your panties in a bunch and wait until said errata comes out. Until then play by the rules.

      Delete
    5. Why?! Do they should leave the hobby just becouse you dont like what they do?

      Delete
    6. No, Phase, you are incorrect. In a tournament for 40k with its non-standardized method of rules writing, you must make reasonable assumtions to the functions of rules.

If I follow your method of tournament rules interpretation, we get this:

I'm sorry, Dark Eldar player, your flickerfield save only works wounds, and vehicles don't take wounds.

So go ahead, find me a tournament that operates strictly under RAW, because I'm certain that you can't.

      Delete
    7. @Wenceslas, please clarify that question. I have no idea what you're asking. And if you're asking that I want people to stop playing because I don't like what they are doing, then you missed the point of my post. I never said I wanted people to leave the hobby.

@Jeff: I should have left some of the testosterone back home. That's what I get for posting at 4:00 am EST.

But yes you're right. I guess I was trying to say that rule followers aren't necessarily bad people. I hate the bashing that happens between RAI and RAW supporters and got a bit fed up last night from reading people going "in your face assholes!" And like I said I'm not even completely for RAW. Friendly games are great in my eyes for the fact that cool stuff can happen both players willing.

So I apologize. I withdraw my previous stance, but won't delete it.

      Delete
    8. thing is you can be RAW and RAI in equal parts without being stupid if you're not blind. sticking to the rules as written while making exceptions for situations where everyone realizes an entry was just a mistake

      Delete
    9. Exactly. Its the idiots who make up rules to benefit them by twisting the wording (or read words where there are none), I have a problem with. Most presumed the zombie thing would be FAQ'd to allow more and would let you play it that way in a friendly game just like the Abaddon thing with not being able to join a unit because of his marks. There's a huge difference between things like that and completely making up rules to give advantage. One is RAI as its intended the other is cheating.

      Delete
    10. Guys, if you actually play RAW there is now no way to bring the zombies into play. Your non-existent zombies can fire their weapons, though...

    Replies
    1. Obviously an oversight on the part of GW, but either way, if we're supposed to go by RAW, then giddyup ;)

      Delete
    2. Obviously it's referring to only that sentence, not the whole entry, since there's also a sentence before that which isn't mentioned in the errata, because it doesn't need changing.
Players should have gotten the hint by now that RAI is the go on this one.

      Delete
    3. Nope it changed the entire entry not just the sentance : )

      Delete
    4. If it changed the entire entry does that mean we dont get to take any zombies at all?

      Delete
    5. Doesn't matter. Typhus upgrades cultists to cultists with FnP, fearless, and FC. Whether they're "zombies" or not is irrelevant. Since we're supposed to be purely RAW here; guess zombies have a laspistol now ;)

      Delete
    6. Actually the way the faq is written, you replace the entire entry with the following. So yes zombies have atopistols, but typhus does not nominate them as such, and therefore you can't actually field them. If ever there was a more concrete proof that RAW lawyering is total crap, there it is. You can't play by one extreme, but have to be balanced between RAW and RAI.

      Delete
    7. No it wasn't, faq reads "typhus plague zombies change to"

nothing about sentences, so from a rules lawyer raw is all stand point they have las pistol and ccw. I mean there is no rai right?

      Delete
    8. yeah I'd agree with the idea that they just changed that first sentence, but... yeah RAW seems to imply they have the autopistol.
This is a case where RAI and common sense must override

      Delete
    9. It doesn't say "replace the plague zombies entry with the following:". It says "change to".

Which means that you take the old RAW, and where that disagrees with the new RAW, abide by the new.

Before, arguing whether you could take additional zombies or not was RAW vs various interpretations of RAI, since we didn't know RAI. But now, arguing they have pistols or can't be taken at all is just being an asshat.

      Delete
    10. This is a good example of how purely going by RAW is stupid.

      Delete
    11. This is what I mean by twisting wording to gain unfair advantage (or basically cheating). You know full well they shouldn't have las pistols but are arguing they can.. The entry is intended to mean they can take 35 officially now instead of 10. Nothing less, nothing more and you know this but please carry on if you can't play without cheating.and good luck finding someone to play you.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. sure looks that way, but I'd play without em haveing it. because RAWing the autopistols is gonna be deemed cheap and stupid really quick.

that said anyone whose been screwed over by a RAW person preventing the use of 35 man zombie units, well.. heres your revenge

  29. Disc of Tzeench seems useless on the sorcerer, as he doesn't really go into a close combat himself. Is it possible to make him able to shoot two powers in shooting turn instead? New codex has taken out the ability of Mark of Tzeench sorcerers to shoot twice
