It appears there are cultist in the upcoming releases, although its odd, since I have seen the pre-order forms and Cultists are not on it. So while its very widely being reported that cultists are being sold in boxes of 5 with three autoguns and two auto pistol/close combat weapon sets, I am holding off on declaring this until I get a little bit more information.

Check out the pic above though from the White Dwarf with the cultists there. The pic comes from this page.

So while it looks like they are being released.... I don't understand why they are not listed on the pre-order forms stores are receiving (like the one posted up here from Frontline Gaming a couple days ago).

    2. 5 guys? Easily $15. Should be closer to $5. These models are tiny.

  2. Any idea about the pricing for the new cultists?

I have been buying up models from other manufacturers that look pretty good and are fairly cheap. Wondering if GW's pricing is competitive.

    1. Going to be at least as much as you Pay for 10 on eBay.

      10£ or 14€ or 20$US
I would expect for 5 figs

      Delete
    2. So £40 for the same amount you get in DV plus the exact same models.. I know, I don't understand it really either.

      Delete
    3. Well if pricing is in line for Cadian Shock Troops, which at 30 for 10, we are looking at around 15 per box plus.

      Delete
    4. I'm guessing it will be priced similarly to the 3 pack of snap together marines:

      http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440273a&prodId=prod1630084

So 10 US most likely, about the same as the ebay price per model, but on ebay you get one type.

    5. You could just buy DV and sell everything but the cultists.

    6. Will probably sell for around $45 in Australia. :( Price gouging #%€£&$@'s

  3. This will drive more DV sales. Well played GW...well played

  4. Lol so they're selling them in packs with 3 useless models and 2 models people actually want. It's funny how things work like that...

    2. I think he means you want to equip all your figs the Same. So you Need to BuY 5 boxes at least to get a legale squad of 10 & One of 15

I have cultists with autoguns, but only because I have 2 DV kits. They're really not worth it. They're the same cost as guardsmen for worse armor and no special rules. CCW cultists are better in melee and 1 point cheaper, which is a lot to a 5-point model.
      @Anon #2:
That's really the bigger issue. The cultists models are not exactly modeled with concersion in mind, as most of them have draping rags that make cutting off limbs smoothly very difficult. Why would you buy this kit? You'd have to buy 5 of them to get enough dudes to run a unit of each! And even then, you don't have any champions or special weapons.

      Delete
    4. Any Chaos Cultist may exchange his autopistol for an autogun... read the book again guys, still a shitty deal with the box but at least it's not as bad as you guys make it out to be.

      Delete
    5. You're correct that you can field a mixed unit of cultists (auto-pistol & ccw and auto-gun troops in the same unit) but it'd be very counter-productive. If you havewant half and half, the guys with auto-guns are either going to keep you from charging or be unable to fire to allow for a charge and be down an attack comparatively. The guys with a auto-pistol & ccw won't be able to shoot to the same range/effect as the auto-gun guys. This is a strategy game after all and it doesn't seem like good strategy to have half of a squad that aren't doing anything or doing it poorly.

    6. @Anon:
Exactly as Skull_Leader says. It's the same reason you don't see dreadnought running a fist and a gun; you lose efficiency. And before you make the "It's for versatility!" argument, cultist are not marines with meltaguns. The elements they have are not sufficient to accomplish a task in small numbers.

    7. Just do what Ork players have been doing for years guys.

"This mob is all shootas, these guys are all choppas" I'm not going to examine each and every bullet catcher for WYSIWYG.

    8. Precisly. I'll just say that my cultist all use their guns as pistols cause I won't buy 2 DV sets for 10cultists only, if my opponent says no I say bye bye.

    9. @Atrotos & Anon:
You're free to do that if you wish. Recognize also that I'm free to flick your models off the table as I kill them to represent my respect for your integrity as a hobbyist. There's a difference between counts-as and proxying, and that's proxying. And proxying is lazy.

    10. Pfft and I'd flip shit and throw your stuff on the ground. Now two people act like children and everyone has their models broken. Hope you feel like a real man.

  5. It would be a little weird to have something that has a minimum of 10 per unit to come in a box of 5. I would expect something more like the Imperial Guard shock troop box.

  6. Perhaps for a release later in the month - not going up with the next wave of advanced orders but still included in the WD? Mail order only? Or perhaps just profiled in WD to energize DV sales as suggested above?

    1. The sternguard upgrade kit was listed in WD but wasn't in the first lineup or pre-orders, so i think there's precedent for getting released later in the month.

    2. And THERE was a quality release, them there combi-weapons....

Alright, the Heavy Flamer was nice, but the rest of that kit was a steaming pile.

  7. They sell Gaunts and Gaurdsmen in packs of 5 and if I remember right they are both min of 10 as well.

    1. That could be it, a £6ish box with the figures the same as in DV.

      Delete
    2. They also sell Guardsmen and Gaunts in units of 10, it would be a kick in the teeth to not do the same with cultists, particularly as they said they want to start providing box sets with all the options.

      Delete
    3. Well the cultist multipart plastic kit isn't out yet, but that doesn't mean it wont come out eventually. This is just part of their product strategy, they have one of these boxes for CSM and SM and Eldar Guardians too.

  8. Those are obviously five of the Dark Vengeance models.
Checking my (still unused) sprues from the box I find all five of the pretty close together on the sprue in one corner. I don't know how GW handle these theings nowadays, but I could imagine that in these days of CAD modelling reordering the elements to cut a 5" by 5" sprue is pretty simple.

And I'd say that this doesn't invalidate the older rumors about a 10-man box in the future - or at least I still hope this is supposed to be a 'booster' pack to bridge the time gap until a genuine Cultist box is produced.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Pricing: Arm+Leg, will take spleen in place of one limb.

    ReplyDelete
  10. 5 is stupid, why only 5 for such a small model with so few options, should be 10 at least

    ReplyDelete
  11. The text clearly states that it will be five per box.
Sure it's odd, but nothing new. Remember those 'click and play'-sets back in the day? The CSM came in a pack of three if I remember it right.

    1. Yeah, these are probably just like the push fit boxes you get for £6 with 3 marines or 5 guardsmen in, as they are exactly the same as the DV ones, so are obviously push fit. I really hope they do release a proper box of customisable cultists in the future. Until then, buy 'em off ebay for less, plus you get a champion. Or do what I'm doing: ZOMBIES!

      Delete
  12. Guess you have to buy moar DV! And no weapon options is weird.

  13. They're doing the same like they did with the 5 normal sea guard from IOB and making them a booster box that's online only.

    1. So disappointed in the csm release. We got a poorly worded codex, and only 2 releases that actually come with options (forge/maulerfiend, helldrake). They tease us with the awesome sculpts in dark vengeance, then keep them DV exclusive. WTF GW!?!? I would love to run chosen in my lists but not with the weapon loadout givin, and conversion is out of the question with those sculpts! I would love to run full cultist blobs with autoguns, and not proxy IG for them. This release was an anticlimactic epic fail. For all the DA players, at least DV didn't introduce a bunch of kitless units for you. I guess all the GW new better direction rumors were false. Even the csm battleforce box was shafted. They traded 5 marines and 8 zerks for 3 bikes.

    2. A booster box without options, useless.

  14. No preorder because it's online only.

  15. If you look at your local GW stores you can proably see packs of 3 troops who are basicly starter set models (the space marines are obvious examples) I imagine these cultists are like that. their use is going to be limited but I guess they'll sell. I could see them being useful for people who want to remove heavy weapons from their DV cultist squads to try and minimize point cost.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Just use renegade militia from FW. I personally don't mind. Those models are quite cool.

    ReplyDelete
  17. It's also possible that they will be coming out later in the month. The order form that has gone out to independant reailers only has the stuff for next weekend on it, and if I am not mistaken, the rumor is that there will be 2 seperate release dates for November anyways. I'm sure we'll get a much better answer Saturday, but I'll be annoyed as all hell if they only come in sets of 5.

  18. from what it says this is a bit of a rough translation only some of it threat to imperial organisations comes with auto guns and auto pistols

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think the earlier posters are right. This is a booster style minibox like the push fit cadian guardsmen and space marines. Ideal for the younger kids to 'try' an army paint a couple of the minis etc, and for army builders to flesh out their dark vengeance cultist squads. I think in the future we will see a multi part kit like other standard box sets. The question is how long? Gw have got to realise the ragged hordes aspect of chaos has mass appeal from gaunts ghosts and other popular fiction. Personally I feel they're really tweaking our nipples! I just hope the kit is worth the wait with all the nice little bits and pieces we've come to expect these days.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Those are the DV models. I really hope they sell them at a similar price point to the 3 marines/5 gaunts. If its $10 for 5 then I'll grab about 10 boxes.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Is it plausible that they would release this in conjunction with other new models for chaos?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I've made 50 Guardsmen and 10 vets from two boxes of jungle fighters, a box of marauders and some spare bits as 'rebel guard' allies for an Ork army. Prob cost me about sixty quid total, so about £1 per model. These are easily useable as cultist models. Converting the Lasguns to Autoguns would be easy, Auto pistols may be a little more difficult, unless you've still got your Orlock and Goliath plastics out of the necromunda box set. That or third party parts probably the best bet.

As for Autogun over pistols, the chatter on the bloggosphere is how good cultists are as cheap objective grabbers. Well word to the wise, having a 24" range weapon is preferable to +1 attack when you're trying to hold an objective as you don't want to let the enemy near! Secondly, you can have +1 attack all you want, but when your WS, S, T and I 3, you're still going to get your ass beaten in combat. Think you'll probably get more joy from doubling your shots into the unit before you get charged, and having twice the number of shots from overwatch to try and force the charge to fail.

  23. I wouldn't worry about swapping the lasguns/pistols to autos. Don't they have the same stats? If I was doing cultists I would use flagellants chaos marauders and catachan personally.

  25. I'm fairly confident this will not be the only release of cultists so I don't understand how people can be already upset about it. There will be a box with champions and special weapons after DV sales slow down. Its nice have these small boxes to get more bodies into these squads without wasting money on a champion for every ten bodies. As far as cc vs autoguns the answer is clear to me... I want the option to do either! As they are just not worth magnetizing the clear answer is to just have groups with both set ups. This seems like a great filler box. I just hope its not way overpriced like the five man chaos marine box.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The key word in the text is "verstarkung" - reinforcements.

The rest of the text literally translates as meaning the box contains 5 cultists (three with blahblahblah and two with blahblahblah).

This is a boster box for those who want larger squads. It's designed purely to add to the DV contents. That's all.
