Shield of Baal: Leviathan Softback Release Coming in the next few weeks

The first release for the Shield of Baal campaign sold out extremely fast, and a lot of people were left in the dark. We have seen a push forward to get out softcover releases for the first two books of the End Times, which according to rumors were pushed forward due to the demand of the books. Now we have rumors that the Shield of Baal will see a softcover as well.

Please remember that these are rumors.

The Shield of Baal Leviathan will see a softcover release before the end of the year. The demand was sorely underestimated, but the books had already been printed, which is why the softcover books are coming so soon.

  1. Stop with the "demand was sorely underestimated..."

These End Times and campaign things were all printed in a set amount a long time ago. What they didn't anticipate was how many people would buy them IMMEDIATELY, thus running them out of stock in the first 24 hours. That's why they are all coming to softback, so GW doesn't have to contract out hardback to an expensive publisher and wait for completion.

    2. they were underestimated by a large margin, but at least they had plans to make the softcover copies for everyone else that unfortunately missed out.

    3. Yeah, sooo... They *did* underestimate demand.

They printed some, people wanted more than they printed, hence demand was underestimated. Not exactly hard.

    4. I don't know why I'm feeding the troll but: A. As it's his blog, he can write his his option, that's kinda what it's for. Maybe try "I disagree with" rather than "Stop with the" as the former is a statement of opinion, which is kinda what the comments are for, rather than a command. B. Some of these books sold out before the email advertising them was received. I if it sells out that fast then it could have sold a lot more. If people get an advert, want to buy something and can't because it's already sold out it's frustrating. If you don't think loss of potential sales and frustrating potential customers unable to buy constitutes underestimating demand you've got another thing coming.
Maybe chill out, it's a small mistake in the grand scheme of things and both people and businesses make them. GW are big boys and girls and don't need you to defend them from every imagined slight. The whole topic of the article is how they are fixing things by making the standard editions available.

    5. Mcdoogle is really building a Reputation as troll!

People reported (here in the comments) it was sold out after 5mins!

People corrected you before that GW prints nothing in house.

Stop spreading the crazy talk doogle!

    7. If GW have softback copies done already then it's pretty clear that they didn't underestimate demand and just did a limited run of the slipcases. I'm pretty sure that it's astoundingly difficult (and/or expensive) to get tens of thousands of softback books done in short order so they've been in the works for some time.

As much as I support GW, I just wish that they'd frickin' well communicate with their customers more. Imagine the amount of woe they would've avoided had they just put Baal #1 up for pre-order with "paperback edition coming soon", FFS.

    8. Actually they are doing the softcovers because they are easier and quicker to print then the hardcovers. I think they even have printers in the UK to do it instead of having to go to china. Their older soft covers were printed in the UK and seeing how the end times soft covers are only available in the UK right now it makes sense as they printed them there and rushed them to sale but haven't had time to ship them to their distribution centers around the world so are only available in the UK.

    3. @seb12 yea, of course they did...but I don't think that they really knew how fast they would sell. they could have made so much more profit if they had known how popular these were going to be.

  4. There's plenty of hardcover copies of all the endtimes as well as the first shield of baal, each of my flgs has several copies of each on the shelves as a matter of fact the one closest to my house even has a couple copies of Stormclaw as well as the new space hulk.. these are not as 'limited' as everyone claims and if you get off your arse and ungue your face from the screen and your fingers from the keyboard and climb outta your parents basement you might find your lgs has a couple copies as well.. not everything has to be purchased via the internets geesh

    1. Please tell me where this "local" FLGS is, so I can get on a "plane" and buy a copy of Nagash hardcover... ;)

    2. My flgs has 6 space hulk, had 6 or 7 storm claws(one guy bought like 4), but of these books can only get 2, and they're gone ASAP.

      Delete
    3. Space Hulk and Storm Claw were easily available at my local, Nagash was around for a little bit, but can't find it now, and Glottkin was a try and reserve, and camp out outside store at opening time. They had only two copies and i managed to get one. Baal was around for several days.

    4. Yeah, my "FLGS" is a GW. That's it. There's nowhere else. And they sold out of all this stuff *the very day* it got stocked. There were literally people queing outside before it opened, just to get a copy of Glottkin. So less of the basement dwelling crap, not everyone has some magical land of fully-stocked independent stores they can go to.

    5. +1 thomas

Also some people cant get to a flgs easy. Makeing product limited by this much is more a sign of ignorance.
It started with Riptides being under produced and now almost every Print product is sold out instantly.
Thats like not wanting to sell.
Maybe Its Kirby's revenge or maybe his legacy? Cant tell for sure!

  5. My FLGS still has one on the shelf (as of yesterday), its even got 10% off it, clearly demand in my area isnt that high, hell there were 2 of them sat there till I bought one.

  6. Just bough one from a FLGS for about 60$. GW might be out of stock but everyone else usually have them.
