No Mephiston as Lord of War, and 3 Kits Coming

With no codex release yet, there has been a lot of talk about what the Blood Angels codex week will look like. According to the latest, there will be a reboxing of Space Marine Tacticals, and this rumor set takes it a bit further about what may be coming.

Please remember that these are rumors.

via Stickmonkey on Faeit 212
from what I understand all the existing BA specific boxes are also getting updated to the new style: (SG, DC, Baal, Dread).  Though, I do believe sources saying BAs are getting a new Terminator box.

I believe BA have 1 vehicle and another "marine" box in this release.  but its a very small release, 3 kits total...4 if you count the "campaign" box with the captain.  And they are saying no Mephiston LOW, that that's just internet wish-listing run rampant.  (Which, I had fallen victim to myself...too many voices)

take it for what its worth, though, cause none of my sources had the tyranid release.

    1. Its stickmonkey, dudes got less than 50% accuracy, I'll wait for lords of war

    2. And what he does get are things like "new broadsides" which is funny when he rumours vect and it backfires

    3. Wish listing is a stupid phrase to use in that context. It's educated guessing.

    4. It is very, very UNeducated guessing.

  2. I would bet Mephiston gets nerfed back down to T4?
    Or ditched?

Well this rumor isnt saying much. Guess they will releas BA stuff! ;)

    3. Maybe t5 but with eternal warrior. He is supposed to be pretty epic. Either him, or the sanguinator

      Delete
    4. The have ditched ICs with much newer models befor.
      Its possible!

I would think they nerf him back down. They are all supposed to be epic!!! So?

      Delete
    5. I think he is going to stay op has heck. In the Lord of Death book he did some pretty amazing things. He uses the warp like none other.

      Delete
    6. Mephiston is essentially a Vampiric Demon Prince. He isn't losing his stats. (Read the fluff where a demon declares Mephiston is "one of us.")

They have not ditched IC's with much newer models, except Canis; but he can still be used as a Wolf Lord on a Wolf Wolf with Wolves.

But look: NO ONE called the Tyranids thing, and the fact they got a model BACK in the form of the Tyrannocyte (which is better, rules-wise), is a positive sign. The rules were also free, so the whole "it should have been in the codex" is nonsense. They aren't risking any more IP garbage.

If the model isn't ready, it isn't getting printed until the model is ready.

    7. Marbo. Marbo. Marbo?
Granted other guard characters that were removed were 2nd/3rd edition vintage (chenkov, macharius has been gone for a long while, al' reheem,) or had no models like bastone, but Marbo was a recent sculpt, certainly newer than Mephiston.

      Delete
    8. Vect was a lot newer than mephiston

      Delete
    9. Marbo EVER SO SLIGHTLY comes under the "IP garbage" banner. I think that was a principled decision by GW to avoid getting whacked with the same bat that they seem happy wielding lol

    10. Mcdoogle- Is your Space Wolf codex missing page 51?
Because I see an entire page of Canis Wolfborn
As for Mephiston if he gains Independent character special rule he should have his stats lowered slightly.
Only thing that keeps him in check (in my opinion) Is that he lacks that rule at the moment

      Delete
    11. Crimson Fists Cortez, Salamanders Chaplain Xavier, Blood Angels Moriar, Chaos Doomrider to name a few space marine heroes with models that got canned.

That's just throwing trivia about, I can't see games workshop canning any more characters that have models. Especially not Mephiston, considering how popular he is.
If Brother Captain Stern has lasted this long, there's more to get out of Mephiston.

On the subject though, it would be cool to see Moriar as a DC Dread upgrade.

    12. McDoogle: I don't know where you are getting your fluff from but in Lord of Death he fights Doom Bringer. Doom Bringer tries to convert him and Mephiston is unswayed. He calls to the blood god and says "he will not come". "He is not worthy of our blessing". The Demon actually fears Mephiston. Mephiston then goes on to whip the demon prince in combat. Mephiston has no relation to Chaos and in the book Lord of Death, he comes to that realization. I have seen many people try to find a relation between the BA's and chaos, but there is none and I have never seen any fluff that actually suggests it like you claim.

    13. McDoogle please leave this blog forever. Im tired of seeing your clumsy, opinionated comments and know it all attitude.

      Delete
    14. Umm Canis Wolfborn was not ditched.. he's very much alive and very over priced.. with a wolfguard battle leader on a thunderwolf kitted out exactly you're paying almost 40pts for canis to have rampage and reroll hits on the charge.. def not worth it

      Delete
    15. Wolves even had the opposite happen, a unnamed character model (apart from in the back ground for White Dwarf) became a new named character.

      Delete
    16. I hate to defend McDoogle's comments but if you take a more opaque view on the term "daemon" I think his meaning was that Mephiston is on a level of power to that of a Daemon Prince and has a similar amount of Warp Energy at his disposal/is infused with warp power in the same way. Much the same way Legion of the Damned can be thought of as "Daemons" that show allegiance to the emperor of man instead of a chaos god. Just my 2 cents on this whole Mephiston is a Daemon Prince thing.

    17. This comment has been removed by the author.

    18. Russell, perhaps the Daemon meant this but the way McDoogle is portraying it, is as if Mephiston is a Daemon Prince himeself. I get that GW leaves fluff open so that we can have our interpretation be the way we want it to be. But in the book "Lord of Death", GW puts the Blood Angels = Chaos thing to bed. The Black Rage flaw that is present in Blood Angels is not chaos in nature. It is actually far more powerful. Mephiston basically becomes the greatest psyker in the imperium (short of the emperor) in Lord of Death. He does not just use the warp, he uses the materium of the warp. Something that Doombringer was not capable of doing. Mephiston then says "the warp is not yours, it is mine".

    19. for everyone tired of seeing commentary: maybe don't read it, and certainly don't respond to it. if it bothers you that much maybe discover the root cause of the issue.

last i checked we can give our opinions frrely on the subject at hand as long as it's not a flame war. since McDoogle hasn't started any flame wars then i believe he can stay.

[even though i come head to head against him on topics and largely have opposing views on everything, i still respect his opinion and allow him to have it]

      Delete
    20. Hey I never said McDoogle had to go. I could care less and I don't know anything about him. But I do know that "check the fluff" is highly inaccurate. In wargaming we all get to make our own fantasy. I was just correcting his because he really seems to not follow the fluff but is going off of what some guy told him at a gamestore. "Check the fluff" there is not fluff where any Demon Prince said this.

      Delete
    21. Well DP is T5 now and Mephiston would be killed as a heretic (aka. Ditched) if he was stronger or as strong as a demon.
So just buy that he should be nerfed to t4. Ofc with pointcost change. Also Ahriman is not T5 and he is the stronger psyker!
      So take that mcdoogle!

GW just buffes stuff they need to sell off. Mephistons sold. No need to let him keep op statline

    22. who said you did Shemp? but if you re-read the comments it was mentioned. no need to get defensive mate!

      Delete
    23. Samus: I have no idea what you are talking about because I was not reacting to anyone specifically. Thus, it would be impossible to be defensive as I am simply making a statement not being defensive.

Seb12: There has long been discussions about who the best psyker is. I will start by saying that Mephiston is akin to a primarch. That might be part of his toughness. Now, who is the better psyker is open to debate. However, in the book Lord of Death it left no doubt that Mephiston is now the strongest psyker in the galaxy short of the Emporer. Psykers use the warp. Mephiston actually uses the materium within the warp. As he said to the demon, "the warp is not yours, it is mine". The black rage has allowed him to harness the warp in a special way that cannot be harnessed by others. He does not use the warp but the rage within the warp. There are a few pages that go into depth on this and the book will go on sale (was previously limited edition hard back) to the masses soon. So check it out, it is a good read.

    24. Ahriman is original Legion. So better geneseed to begin with. He has the blessing of tzeentch. He has powerfull artefacts. And jet in game he is lower than Mephiston?

A dud that was created from 2nd Hand genseed and went cookoo! And somehow now he can controll the rage in the warp? While other DeathComp. Cant controll themselves?
Even if you belive all that. He should be lesser to any CSM psyker. And he is now better than any DP!!!!
No way that will stay as is!

      2-5: Unit gets Rage.
6: Unit becomes AP2, and any unsaved wounds caused result in blood tokens. The unit can spend these tokens to take a FNP on a 4+.

  6. Terminators: could this be the Blood Brothers or whatever they were rumored as in addition to normal terminators, the parts from the BB make alternatively reg termies with BA iconography?

AA options: do BA have much in the way of AA? do they have a Whirlwind? if not maybe a SM stalker tank?

New Box: possibly assault squad, possibly something else Blood Brothers in Power armor.

Additional kits: but it is 3 additional kits more then what i thought was likely but logically they are space marines so of course they will release new kit/s for them.

Mephiston: bummer, but that would mean *if* they get a LOW, that either Dante/Sanguinator is the LOW

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If they get one, Dante would have made the most sense anyway. He is literally a Lord of War. Wherever he goes, he basically is permitted to assume command - even over Inquisitors, Lord Commissars/Generals, and other Space Marine Chapter Masters.

Lord of War doesn't have to mean "killiest guy in the army."

    2. Sanguinor as LoW could work.
if they're updating older SM kits then
      Assault Squad
      Razorback/Rhino kits
      Predator
      and Landspeeder
all come to mind of older kits

    4. The only problem with Dante being the LOW is that BA players taking him will have the additional expense of picking up someone for the HQ slot...

      Delete
    5. my thoughts are Dante, Mephiston or Sanguinor as a LoW unless we get a new unit..to take one of those or 2 of these three to take up a LoW slot.

      .

    6. mauler, I agree, its silly, but that is how the LoW's have been (when they are included) I guess taking a libby and dante isn't a HUGE drawback....

      Delete
    7. Mauler, you mean just like Space Wolf players with Logan and Ork players with Ghaz? Its the way of things now. Could be worse, DE completely lost their overall leader because his model sucked.

    8. Yes, just like that.

I suspect that we'll see Vect next year though...

    9. I just hope the book is solid, internally balanced well and full of good options for BA players.
The concept that mephiston (or dragio...dont' get me started) is a LOW and an Imperial Knight is not....is baffling.

  9. My prediction is Meph will get nerfed back down to t4, perhaps 5 if he's lucky to be made into a normal librarian but probably with 1 more wound than your standard librarian, if anyone I bet they will give LOW to either dante or the sanguinor. I bet no new models besides the updated tactical squad that people are discussing plus all their range (dread/baal pred etc) getting reboxed. Dread will get nerfed, sanguinary guard will still suck and people will think the world is ending just like they did with all the other recent codexs.

    1. Seriously, I dont know why people keep saying Mephy will lose his high toughness. Cassius iirc is T6 from simple bionics (greater than a daemon prince, Mephy is supposedly the full potential - or a daemon prince to some, or what ever people may think he is - of Sanguinius in one of his sons. Hes battered crazy things in lore, and the simple ridiculousness of some of his fluff makes him seem, if anything, under powered on TT.

If anything, he will stay the same and/or gain a mastery level and/or become AP2 like other characters who are "uber".

      Delete
  10. You guys keep hoping Mesphiston will stay where he is.. He's already broken with his stat line and list of stupid buffs, not to mention teleporting. GW doesn't seem to care about fluff when dealing with these characters.. Any number of nurgle players will tell you this. In the fluff they're nearly unkillable while on the table top they get a measly +1 toughness... Just my opinion

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yeah, to be fair the background lore =/= workable gameplay mechanics. The codices are the primary canon, they drive the game forward, not the novels which are fairly unregulated and prone to slight artistic license. lol

However Meph0r is stated in the codex is what he is. Not so much the novels.

  13. Back in 5th edition Mephiston conspicuously had the profile (and rules) of a Keeper of Secrets, plus psychic powers. Previously, in 2nd, he had the profile of a 5th edition WFB Vampire Lord. Good times.
