A major tendril from Hive Fleet Leviathan pushes through the cold void towards the Shieldworlds of the Cryptus System. Loathe to abandon a key territory – especially one so close to the Blood Angels’ home system of Baal - the forces of the Astra Militarum and Adepta Sororitas prepare to defend the region with their lives.

Presented in a deluxe slipcase, this two-book set is brimming with all-new Warhammer 40,000 content.

Book one is a 152 page narrative book containing:

• A wealth of background describing how the Cryptus System became embroiled in conflict
• A blow by blow account of the key events of the invasion and the major battles
• Descriptions of famous regiments that took part in the conflict including their background, colour schemes and heraldries
• Brand new artwork showing the planets, space stations and environments found within the Cryptus System

Book two is a 64 page rulebook that enables you to play games set during the invasion of the Cryptus System:

• 6 new Echoes of War missions to test your mettle
• Cities of Death rules for fighting games of Warhammer 40,000 amongst the war torn streets of destroyed cities
• 6 Cities of Death missions and 36 tactical objectives
• Rules for Death From The Skies, allowing you to include fighter aces in your Warhammer 40,000 battles
• New Tyranids detachment rules and Warlord Traits to represent the composition of the forces of Hive Fleet Leviathan
• New Datasheets for the Mucalid Spore Cluster, Zoanthrope Brood, Maleceptor, Toxicrene, Tyrannocyte, Sporocyst and Mucolid Spore
• 6 new Tyranids formations

This product is available only while stocks last, and has been printed in only in English.
Zoanthropes are powerful psykers, created solely to harness the psychic potential of the Hive Mind. By flexing the merest part of its mystical mind, a Zoanthrope can manifest this power in a variety of incredible, destructive ways.

This 80-piece plastic kit makes three Zoanthropes or two Zoanthropes and a Neurothrope.

This kit can alternatively be assembled as 3 Venomthropes.

  1. Should we start a countdown before the hardcovers are sold out?

    1. Ofc I can be completely wrong with this, but even with the larger playerbase I doubt the campaign book will be gone as fast (if at all) as the Nagash / Glottkin books. The rules for new models were in the WD already and while nice, they are not big game changers like the Endtime books.

  2. What I want to know is (apart from the digital edition) how they want people to play cities of death when it sells out. I wish this book were more akin to the Sanctus Reach Books - cheaper and not limited.

    1. They'll release a city fight rulebook similar to the planetstrike release, though possibly just in digital format. They'll also release just the rulebook from this set, but without the novella. I wouldn't be surprised to see a deck of cityfight cards at some point too.

    2. It's £5 cheaper than the SR volumes dude, and probably done in similar numbers. I think it's the same format, just a different campaign.

      Ordering mine tomorrow!

      And two mugs.

    3. The Sanctus Reach books have a standard edition for £30 and a special edition small format with a novella for £50. This edition doesn't contain a novella or appear to be in small format so actually it looks like it is £15 more than the sanctus reach books.

    4. I picked up a mug too, I have a wee collection of mugs going and the box will be genuinely useful =P

    5. Yeah its a joke that the sold out after 3 houres book mentioned how you can use it with other sold out and out dated Books like Cities or death from the skies.

Its very much a bad joke to sell additional Content for the game in such limited numbers that almost no One gets any.
Makes me think if they really want people to expand their miniatures collection if the game Expansion is not available?
Not a lot of people will buy nid or BA minis from this!

    1. Yup. Def looks like a new model now that we can see it better. Also, I'm digging the return to funky patterns on the 'nids carapaces. Reminds me of the old-school head-tattoo look.

    2. Time for stealer heavey armies!
      :D

    3. If they have some decent stealer formations, then yeah, definitely

    4. It is just heavily converted broodlord from space hulk

    5. NO IT ISNT! its the Exclusive Tyranid model from the Shield Of Baal boxed set!

It really annoys me when people say things are conversions when they clearly aren't! , Plastic Meganobz, Haemonculus and the Succubus are to name but a few.

    6. It is based on the Space Hulk broodlord so I can understand a confusion if someone doesn't collect tyranids or don't pay too much attention to detail.
Arms are in different position and the left pair is separate from one another, claws are slightly different (less serrated and with circular cut-in near the base), forehead spike/horn is quite obvious, tongue is thicker and it ends with a claw, lower jaw is much wider (or it might be mandibles like some of the Space Hulk 'stealers)... Thanks to my OCD I could go on :)

  4. This first part of Shield of Baal is basically Tyranids Supplement: Leviathan. I love it!

  5. Yeah, now if they could only find a way of removing the Blood Angels content from the model box second part and the third instalment...
