Yes it would sadden all of us very much if there were only one release for Warhammer 40k this year. So far this year, it seems we have gotten everything "but" a codex. Having only one would be a very dis-service to the hobby in general, but if this turns out true, what options do you have...

One thing to note though is that this is yet another source saying a couple things that correlate with other rumors. That is, flyers are coming, and Chaos Space Marines are on their way.

Please remember that these are rumors, and as such need to be taken with salt.

With the so call “Hobbit” rumor lock down, reliable rumors have been hard to come by. Well finally, I am about to bring you a ray of light in the otherwise dark age of rumors, but before we get to any rumors let me start off by saying that I was wrong.

I was partially wrong about a certain rumor I been repeating for the last year or so.

The main reason for the error is that I assumed Games Workshop would never have only one 40k codex for an entire calender year. Sadly, GW has a habit of disappointing…

So I want start by adding my voice to the venerable rumor monger Stickmonkey when he recently made mention, that Dark Angels weren’t coming till at least early next year.

40k players will only get one codex this year and that is Chaos Space Marines– along with 6th edition of course.

So the time-table has changed and looks like this:
June-July 6th Edition
Sept-Oct Chaos Space Marines
Sprinkle in some flyers, buildings, and that is all you will see from the 40k front for the year.

Now what about 6th edition and Chaos Space Marine rumors you might ask?
Well I got them and it is time for the other rumor mongers to join in.
I am pretty sure a few people have been siting on rumors for quite some time.
Like the pieces to a puzzle, if only everyone shows there pieces, then we will create a clear 6th edition picture.

WARNING to everyone expect the unexpected when it comes to GW, because 6th edition is not going to be the 5th edition quick fix many people were hoping for.

  1. The last part of this post - does this mean 6th edition will be an even BIGGER release than expected? Or a bigger disappointment?

Why must these people play with my emotions with so many cryptic references?! JUST GIVE IT TO MEEEEE!!!

PS: I have been a dedicated Chaos player since '94. I just want to be loved. Is that so wroooooong?

  2. The idea was always to have two years oF WHFB, then focus on 40k after that. Now, the last rulebook for WHFB came out in July of 2010… so we're technically still on Fantasy-time.
Expect next year to have tons and tons of 40k, I guess.

    1. But this is the 25th anniversary of 40k, its really bad thinking to ignore the hobby now. I'd definitely be spending more money if Games Workshop was putting out new stuff, boxed sets, special neat limited edition things, etc to coincide with the anniversary, instead of just releasing a crimson fists model that looks ugly as sin.

    2. Fantasy didn't get anything special for their 25th anniversary. Why should 40k be any different?

    3. doubt next year will be a 40k year. from the beginning of the Hobbit this year all the way to Dec next year if not Jan of 2014 is my bet to be the main push.

      a crappy anniversary for anyone.

    4. @ Ty... just because GW didnt do squat for fantasy means 40k dsnt desernve anything? Thats a dumb reasoning. i stand for correction but isnt 40k more popular than fantasy? So maybe thats why a lot of people want 2 see some more codexes.

  3. So this rumour monger quite happily admits to assumption and speculation, then expects us to believe the rest of what they're saying?

I'll take a quick peek into my crystal ball and I can see that there'll be a 40K Codex for an army that hasn't had an updated Codex in the last 'few' years. The 6th Edition will be different, but the same.

I can also see that because there's a picture of a Dark Angel on the spine's of White Dwarf, then something to do with Dark Angels may be released this year.

My dog also says that there'll be a whole lot of new minis to go with whatever codex is being released.

  4. I expect GW to do what makes sense business-wise and not stick to some timetable of letting game systems ferment. If it is in their interest to release army books and new models, they will.

Sales bubbles are bad for business. The codex release schedule around 6th might be sparce as they space out their revenue but I honestly can't see one 40k codex in a year. When's the last time that happened?

  5. "So the time-table has changed and looks like this:"

    Yawn ZzZzZzZzZzZ

The time-table has changed so much and everyone says something different. Can we talk about something else now? All this speculation has been beaten like a dead horse already.

    2. i would agree. we need to look far forward now to armies like Tau, and Black Templars. We have a sufficient amount of rumors to worry about for the next month or so. we need to hear some things on stuff that has not been talked about heavily yet

  6. I would like to point to one word in the rumoured release: "buildings"

Since he is rumouring 40K, does that mean more buildings for 40K? And if yes, will it include some buildings for the other races?

We do have possible 'hidden in plain sight' buildings. Spore chimneys and some Necron columns on the back page of each codex. The backgrounds of some unit boxes.

I know! They could be scratch built, or realistic looking artwork, but what if they're not....

On the topic of the rest of the rumour. It will be contradicted by another rumour soon. That's rumours for you! "Games Workshop is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."

    1. Er... there's usually a bit of card in a box of chocolates that tells you what each one is :p

    2. lol
Guess someone should tell Forest Gump!

There's usually a picture on the box which shows you what's inside too! Hey now! Some chocolates come in clear plastic tubs! I know because I got some once!

  7. If sweeping changes in 6th lead to a better (i.e., more complex and balanced) game, I'm all for it. If it leads to the shit-box that is 8th Ed fantasy, eBay will be swarmed with my armies.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Shit box? Have you actually played 8th, its far superior to 7th, and I loved 7th, but now the games not won or lost in the magic phase, also 8th broke the 'last three armies kick everyone elses arse rule' which is something 40k seems to be suffering with atm.

  9. Well, I personally would not be surprised if we only got one codex this year. Between the huge thing 6th edition is supposed to be, the hobbit most likely resulting in a bunch of LotR releases, the"summer of flyers" coming up and them publishing at least one more armybook for WHFB this year is rapidly loosing a suitable timeframe to drop in more then one codex. Considering GW likes to leave a significant gap between major releases, and the fact that we're already a third into the year, when would there even be any time to release the second codex?

  10. *shrug* I don't know really. I dot think it stat big a deal if theres only one Codex this year. IIRC didn't Fantasy only get one new Army Book the year that 8th came out? It makes sense when you think about it!

  12. i hope 6ed has the tactical flexibility that 5th lacked though it wont be just a 300 page book of crazy rules. This rumor does have some truth but theres still a hint of uncertainty

  13. IMO, it doesn't make sense that we would only get one codex (Chaos) this year, for the sole reason that both Chaos and Dark Angels are in the starter set. The Dark Angels codex has to be used with the FAQ to be in line with newer codices. Are they going to tell new players who want to start Dark Angels after getting the starter set that their codex doesn't work by itself because it's so outdated?

Sure, in other starter sets the armies haven't always been brand new but have they ever needed a FAQ to even work properly?

    1. The errata in the FAQ are all in the latest versions of the codex. New players will not have any problems.

  14. Liable? Well, incase you didn't realize, Grey Knights and Necrons were released this year. What also annoys me greatly is GWS policy on its releases. 6th edition is a BIG THING, yet how much do you bet the first official comfirmation we will have is the ability to preorder a week ahead. WTF!? Why don't they advertise? Take video games. We knew Halo 4 was coming out officially a a year and a half in advance. GWS should do the same, and then release snippets of information to build up the hype, instead of ust "Hey guys, you have a week to get 60 plus dollars together to buy this book or you will not be able to play."

    1. Necrons and grey knights were 2011. But i agree with you on the policy being rubbish.

  15. I still think dark angels chaos would be the wrist starter box to date, for any system, two armies exactly the same? I think not. I have seen absolutely no evidence for chaos in the box, where's this certainty come from?

    1. I agree. Two power armour armies? This seems very unlikly or a very unoriginal idea as both armies have also vey similar playing styles. Yet, if indteadof Chaos space marins they included renagades and deamons using rules fro the CSM codex, that might be cool.

  17. Skaven and high elves were in the fantasy box, both them are 7th army books, it kinda makes sense.

  18. All this hobbit talk...i really don't think hobbit hype is gonna be all that. I mean sure like a month it will be hobbit time. Id bet on getting a codex in June, and November at the very least.

    1. I just don't see the Hobbit sending legions of new customers to GW stores to start Lord of Rings. Maybe I'm just cynical but LotR and WotR have fewer fans than Battlefleet Gothic at my store.

  19. Yet gw keep supporting them. There is no doubt in my area it was a very effective gateway product to bring younger people to 40k and fantasy.
