The Timeline of the Cult Mechanicus

While background is not my expertise, I still enjoy reading through it as the Warhammer 40k universe is extremely detailed. The history and background of Mars is one of those interests that a lot of people have and are looking forward to reading when this new codex comes out.

If you do not like spoilers.... dont read further

Please remember that these are still rumors, as the book has not been released. Just the hint of Dark Eldar in the book, means I'm hooked, and need to know more.

Not much im afraid, the background -timeline- starts at the end of the horus heresy saying that the Mechanicum was reforged as the Adeptus Mechanicus in M31. The codex has a very brief timeline in it that includes a shadow war with the Inquisition, and tech-priests finding failures in the emperor's throne resorting to a bargain being had beneath the city of Commorragh.

  2. Interestingly enough, depending on how long they've had Commoraghs help, and Vect WOULD be involved in something that big. Perhaps all those psykers being sacrificed to the emperor aren't going to the emperor but to the webway portal behind the throne straight to Vect. It may go to say that Vect may be trying to become a god himself or something with all the souls he consumes... But what if they're Psyker souls being fed straight to him.

    1. Thought they didn't like having psychers in Commoragh...

    3. Proble with that is that they psykers don't "disappear." They are installed right in the walls of the chamber and their essence piped into the Emperor's mind.

    4. Dark Eldar don't "consume" souls...they sacrifice other race's souls to slake Slaanesh's hunger and save their own. They do get some regenerative powers from the release of pain, which is why they are so savage and frenzied in battle, but they don't "consume souls" in the sense that Slaanesh or the other chaos gods might.

And they do abhor psykers. Not just dark eldar psykers, all psykers - its a direct link to the warp, which is like an invitation to the chaos gods to scratch away at realspace and the webway. No psykers in commoragh, period.

    5. Aside from Shadowseers, you mean.

    6. Also, from Lexicanum: "While Dark Eldar do make use of psychic devices, they do not any longer use psychic powers themselves because of the danger that interacting with the Warp brings for those whose souls are desired by Slaanesh. Psykers are treated as playthings in Commorragh, and given the twisted, sadistic nature of the Dark Eldar, this necessarily involves pain and torment for the psyker."

So it appears you are incorrect. No Psyker of any race can ever have free passage in Commoragh (except for Shadowseers), but they have no problem bringing them in as captives, kept well under control.

    7. Technically they consume the agony that others are in, they don't sacrifice anything to Slaanesh. They're not Aztecs just bleeding people out ontop of temples lol

    8. my guess is the admech's traded human lives for eldar technology. if the golden throne is based on webway portal tech it stands to reason that they may need to strike some sort of bargin with a faction of eldar to repair it.

    9. Have you read "Mechanicum"? That book explains where the Golden Throne technology came from.

    10. heads up, the golden throne is a one way direct link to the birth of the next chaos god, then the big E dies Terra becomes the epicenter of the next eye of terror (which when looking at the map of the galaxy with Ultima as the bottom makes a huge smiley face with the warp storms...ultimate trollololo. from chaos)

  3. Wasnt there something called khaines gate 'beneath' (in a multidimensional city which was is down?) commoragh?

    1. Maybe Khaines gate doesn't go to the warp, but to the golden throne. Or he's bartering for the custodes or grey knights to come help them solve the issue.

      Delete
    2. No it definately goes to the warp. If you read the DE timeline basically:

Vect gathered a bunch of "Nulls" and caged them up around the gate to block any psychic activity and ward off Daemons.

Vect and lady Malys are having an all out war because she thinks vect intends to open the gate and unleash a Daemon invasion so she's trying to stop it, when in actual fact that's exactly what Vect is trying to do!

It ends with the final chain on the gate breaking and the "Nulls" start screaming...

Sounds like Slaanesh itself wants to get in.

  5. In the Harlequn codex he made a shadowy deal with them! he currently has more fingers in more pies than Sweeny Todd. Bet he's aso Draigo, keeps Leman Russ in a penthouse, the force behind the Hive Mind, and is actually Eldrad Ulthran. See I can write like Gav Thorpe and Matt Ward too!!

    2. Kenneth, this is GW. You are hired. :-P

Just don't forget the Necrons and Tau next time! Vect is also a shape-shifting C'tan who poses as an Ethereal at times.

    3. Vect is actually the Deceiver and his greatest trick was fooling the Necron into thinking the Shards are the C'tan.....

      Nah just kidding :D

      Or am i....?

  6. It's interesting to me that Vect has supposedly been mentioned a few times in the Codicies that have been released after Dark Eldar.

Maybe we will finally see his plastic release before the end of the year.

    1. I think that Vect has always been a pivitol character in the fluff, he'sjust never been mentioned as much before since he's always done it secretly. He's trickier than Eldrad, That demon bird, and creed.

      Delete
    2. It's even hinted at in the Valedor novel that he's Yriel's father.

    3. I've posted a huge thing about that several times on Dakkadakka, It's quite interesting.

  7. My main army is Dark Eldar, my favorite character is Vect, as well as Vraesque Malidrach. This makes me beyond happy!!!

  8. We did hear rumors earlier in the year of a few vague release possibilities for an expansion/campaign/Apocalypse redux:

    -Vect on Dais
-Gargantuan Creature for Tyranids in plastic (along with a Necrons-style, 7th edition codex update)
    -other stuff

Perhaps those rumors weren't so far off...

    1. Hope that Gargantuan is the Dominatrix, as that's a really major thing missing from the table.

      Delete
    2. As long as they make it big enough. I always thought the Dominatrix should be bigger than a Heirophant considering its supposed to be the largest type of Synapse creature ever seen on the battlefield.

Well let's just say that if its smaller than my version (approx 10.5" tall, 13" long from head to back foot and 8" wide) then mine is being promoted to a Norn Queen!!!

      Delete
    3. an updated nid dex with a dominatrix would be the best christmas present ever

    4. Well Vect did pop up twice in rumors. One saying he will come along side apoc at the end of the year.

  9. I'm a massive Dark Eldar fan but I might be missing something...there's no mention of Vect at all. I'm not sure why everyone is jumping to that conclusion. In fact in most cases referring to anything "under" Commorragh is referring to the Covens. Thinking "soul-tech" is being used in conjunction with the Golden Throne makes a lot of sense.

As much as we've heard about Vect as a model I do believe we will see that eventually. I don't see how this snippet really gives us much however...especially anything that points at Vect.

It actually kind of makes me sad. Dark Eldar are such an afterthought even mentioning them in a book makes everyone go, "LOOK GUYZ! THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT US!"

    1. Something this big, will not get past Vect. He knows everything in Commoragh, and would be involved. It's likely a dealing with with Urien Rakarth.

  10. I have just read the time line and Dark Elder are not mentioned once.
