Leaked Images of Space Marine Upgrade Packs

The upgrade kits for Space Marines have leaked images now running around the net. There is quite a few bits in these sprues, noting 20 components mentioned for the Dark Angels one. Hopefully these kind of kits continue more chapters as I see these as great expansions and ways to customize our models.

    1. Or a Heavy Chainsword :) (something i've not seen outside of Heresy, but has had rules since 6th ed.)

    2. Of course now we get two-handed chainswords after going through the trouble of converting one :|

    3. I just got my copy and it is refereed to as an Eviscerator.

    4. Thats the thing this fleshterer dud had.
      +2 S , AP rubbish

I would rather like to see powermauls included in any One kit.

    5. Just give me two handed swords for the squads so I can make those great heresy like models (preferably two handed power swords... but whatever)

  2. i like how the 32mm bases look

    1. I've been rebasing my Dark Angels to 32mm and I'm never going back to the old ones.

    2. I've used the larger bases on a few Marines and I also used them for Space Hulk Genestealers, it really is nice to have the extra room on the base.

  3. Cool. Now i want to see the new space wolves upgrade sprue, I know the old upgrade sprue was taken off the webstore about 2 weeks ago.

The two chainsword is cool. I can see using that as a ragnar blackmane conversion bit. Since the current model is still garbage.

    1. Why do SW need a new upgrade sprue? The GH box has enough upgrade bits to last you a lifetime. We get 10 bolt pistols, bolters and chainswords, more special weapons than you can shake a stick at, almost too many heads, and plenty of random little iconography bits.

      Delete
    2. No army is in "need" of an upgrade sprue but it is nice to have one. To be completely honest I'm kind of wary of all the upgrade sprues... I'm wondering if GW might get rid of the grey hunter/blood claw packs and start making us buy regular tacs and the upgrade sprue so they can free up shelf space.

      Delete
    3. Why don't we need an upgrade sprue? Every chapter needs an upgrade sprue! Also, extra options are always nice and very much appreciated. The old upgrade sprue that they've removed from sale actually had some good stuff on it: 5 alternate heads, 5 alternate chest plates, 1 wolf pelt cloak, a unique power pack, power sword / axe / fist, banner pole, wolf tails, and most importantly a melta gun! The gun alone is a pain to source so I hope they include one on the new sprue.

  4. As expected, somewhat overpriced with too little stuff.

    1. i didnt see a price anywhere in the pics?

    2. From previous rumours. Should cost around 11 usd

      Delete
    3. if that does end up being the price of them, id say thats very cheap, certainly by gw's standards these days

      Delete
    4. $11 is cheap for an add on dedicated sprue just to add variety to your chapter.

Also nearly every one of Steve the warboss rumours were once again wrong.
Can we please stop quoting him. The dude we claiming they will mostly be mark 6 armour. Even his guesses are bad.

      Delete
    5. Yes please! I'll take 3 for that price, and I'll have one of your ASM squads too! Don't think they add on sprues could've been better.

      Delete
    6. Well, they could.have included plasma weaponry with our chapter iconography. That would have been cool.....

      Delete
    7. of course it could be better. but better means more $$$. many of us complain if it is too much or perceived to be too much, so they add min required bits and also what they (GW) believe is fair for the price point for what you get. but i was far from wrong when i said, "less bits and overall more cost" (for people outside USA/UK it may very well be true- not complaining just mentioning the obvious)

    8. According to WD, $13.50 USD

    3. Yeah, Olataro has had sand in his you-know-what over this for days now. My only beef is if they stop with the four chapters. I'd like to see Imperial Fists, White Scars and dare I dream?!? Minotaurs get the same treatment.

  7. I hope they both do more of these kind of clampack/mini-sprue upgrade kits and they are available through retail channels - they would be a nice "pay where you play" item to pick up when not shopping for a signifcant purchase.

    1. I'd kill for more of these for the other legions/major chapters.

      Delete
    2. Seriously, if they don't make these for the other chapters, then they're missing the boat here. Too easy money if you ask me. (Maybe some Chaos will be in order after they see how these sell.)

      Delete
    3. I'd love to use an Iron Hands one on a Command Squad and some Honor Guard.

    4. Right there with you Alendrel, GW needs more of these small impulse purchase priced items that still give value to your army.

  8. Maybe this has to do a lot of the Deathwatch rumors. The person dropping the info must have scoped out Deathwatch marines made with these kits.

  9. Makes one wonder if the Chaos will get Legions-specific upgrade packs like these.
And then, rules for legions, to roflstomp those loyalists.

    2. it is obvious at this point it is only FW that realizes the potential of chaos. All GW proper does is keep churning out more vanilla marine garbage for their poster child.

At least The xenos are getting some rules love if nothing else. nothing as interesting in the actual kits.

    4. So Khorne Daemonkin was what exactly if not chaos love? And the new Helbrute kit? Or the rumored Tzeentch DK book coming down the pipe? Or the fact that CSM are half of the starter set? Argue about how good the rules are if you want, but to say the Chaos has gotten no love is demonstrably false.

  12. Ultramarine kit looks nice... which I'll be honest and say is a surprise, but I'm gonna get the feeling that setting out a whole army with those nice shoulderpads is going to get very, very expensive....

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Personally I think I would only use those on my Veterans etc, and use decals on my rank and file. (if I had an army that could use the items that is)

      Delete
    2. is a lot cheaper than the FW upgrade kits, with more bits and bobs than just shoulder pads, that double handed chainsword would look awesome on some death company or flesh tearers, and if you play blood angels the upgrade sprues would make an easy way to convert existing plain mini's into more ornate armored verities which is very fluffy for BA's...

      Delete
    3. Decals always look better on shoulder pads than the sculpted icons anyway, when properly done with solvents and varnish. In my opinion!

      Delete
    4. I really like the Ultramarines upgrade sprue, but it's definitely for Veterans only. The shoulder pads will fix my biggest complaint about the Sternguard kit, which is that many of its shoulder pads don't leave enough room for a Chapter logo.

  15. This is going to be the perfect upgrade to the ultramarine biker command squad and captain I'm putting together. What's more I don't really mind the price to make my models stand out that bit more.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Disappointed by these kits. They should contain the number adequate of heads, breastplate, and shoulder to personalize 5 or 10 marines.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. This is an upgrade sprue you still have heads, shoulders and breastplates on each assault, tac or devastator kit. You don't need 10 heads when you get a choice between 15.

      Delete
    2. It's not the first time gw have done this, way back you had the space wolves one, da one and black Templars. And before that there was metal shoulder pads. So this is not out with that, the point was always to give variety and not provide an allinone solution. After all variety is the spice of life lol

  17. Love the fact that last night I was building the fine at termite lib and the top of the flag post came off, as I was also build assault marines I just drilled and glued it to my sergeants jump pack. 18. These are great, and 11 us isn't much. Considering the average marine box is good at representing most chapters, this gives you a nice way to ad that little something to your squads. if I am not mistaken, comes in at the cost of ordering the old metal shoulder pads anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Just a thought but if we cast our minds back to the plastic heresy rumours perhaps this is a testing release, see how well upgrade packs sell before they go down the route of releasing the plastic box and legion specific upgrades?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Any plastic HH will be generic. All legion specifics are mostly already handled by FW

  21. There was a rumour a while back about Chapter upgrade frames being sold. If we do get 4 upgrade frames this week then we could get more in the next 2 weeks also.

Ravenguard where mentioned in the original rumour so it's not out of the question.

  22. Where do we get 32 mm bases?

    ReplyDelete

    1. GW have them. £3 for 10

      Delete
    2. They also include them in any new marines boxes and will probably repack the tactical, vanguard and sternguard squads to include them. Speculation not fact though.

  23. I think what we r seeing here is the beginning of the answer to the question of "why did they fight the bits people so hard?"

IF (and it is a big if), we see custom sprues for every major chapter and every faction, we will be living in quite a nifty little hobby world. Deathwatch has got to be a double sprue. Something like Assault Marines has to be a double sprue too. Lots of flexibility in this model. Crossing my fingers.

    1. Poor Chaos players. Yet more love for the Loyalists, as if only they existed.

    2. C'mon Chaos just got Khorne Daemonkin and Siege of Vraks. Along with Belakor it's still more love than most n armies out there.

    3. Not everyone likes Khorne. :'-(

    4. Still, its like if Salamanders got their own book. Not everyone plays them, but its a big chunk of love for space marines. Chaos is getting it's love, Tzeentch seems to be next in line. I can only hope nurgle isn't last.

      Delete
    5. Not everyone plays Ultramarines or Dark Angels, yet they get special treatment.

Thing is Chaos fanboys want something that doesn't resonate with how GW see the Chaos Marines.
The Fan boys still think there are Legions, but the only true legion is the Black Legion.
Most other heretic legions splintered into warbands, where some retained their old names.
In my mind God specific books makes more sense for the traitors, than "look here is the World Eaters book"

    6. BA/SW should not get a dex either. they are not legions, they are divergent chapters not really adhering to the Codex Astartes and use tactica not "normal" so they could technically be seen in the same light/context as Chaos marines. there is one chaos legion still much a legion by old context it is Alpha Legion (did i get that right) it still fights with numbers over 1000....it is the only true legion in 40k.....my two cents.

      Delete
    7. regardless chaos are still known as legions, imperial marines are not (loyals are known as chapters, not legions, look in any publication for chaos = legion...go figure, and the original 20-21 chapters/legions should get a dex at the very least regardless of what you think personally of why chaos should not get individual dex's for it's marines but imperial even second founding can have them). if GW doesn't want to expand upon the fluff of chaos or atleast support the fluff they have already got or they can miss out on printing money (yet again).

    8. Sorry but SW was the original non-vanilla chapter to get its own models.. they will always and forever be a stand alone faction abovevand beyond any other.. all haill the emperor's executioners.. praise Russ and the Allfather.. everyone else.. kick rocks

  24. So either Blood Angels/Space Wolves were lie or they are for next White Dwarf?
I find weird that with the extra Death Company and Tactical Squad bits, they will release an upgrade sprue as well.

    1. I doubt SW and BA will get their own kits, since both have their own Tactical equivelent sets.

    2. Atia has already found the url redirects... while they may not be the most deserving chapters... they are getting upgrade spures.

  25. Hmmm... Not a huge fan of this sprues but they are still pretty decent. I would buy it mainly for the Ultramarine champion's blades, their design is very nice.

  27. Love these! Can't wait to get my hands on some Dark Angels ones. Does this mean we're not getting a DA tactical squad though?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Remains to be seen, BA got a tac squad just a few months ago but now seem to be getting the upgrade sprue. My guess is that the upgrade sprue is to supplement the generic kits out on the shelves, since this will let you chapter-ise assault, dev, bike, command, stern guard, vanguard, even land speeder crews etc. Whereas you may still get the tac squad since it represents a higher density of components. We shall see.

      Delete
    2. I'd say yes, if only because most of the bitz on the new sprue seem to revolve around making a Company Master from the multipart Commander kit (not like we need any more of them, but there it is).

      Delete
  28. Okay. Surprised this rumour turned out to be true. No sign of a SW sprue then? Some plastic sculpted pads would be good for them since the current FC ones are a little too small. I hope to see Raven Guard, Imperial/ Crimson Fists, Iron Hands and White Scar kits too. Salamanders maybe as well. Oooooh and maybe an obscure chapter or two. GW oculd actually make alot of money if they start making more kits like these for lesser known chapters.
