I can confirm the BA and SW upgrades. The SW one has some bits that looks like you could make a sweet plastic Ragnar Blackmane. Also has a wolf helm. The BA one has Batman nipple armor and a Blood Chalise. Also Ultra, Blood, and Dark Angel a4 transfer sheets.
Please keep me anonymous.

    1. It's been forever since I've ordered directly from gw. What happened to the old DA upgrades? Retired?

      Delete
    2. sorry ... he's gone :/ but you can still buy the company veterans :)

      Delete
    3. ^ really. i am quite happy about this. no other real way of getting robed marines.

      Delete
    4. Would have to agree. Go great with my WB

  2. I've already posted it in original Atia's comment but I'll do it here again - old DA and SW upgrade packs are gone on polish webstore and old Assault Marines are sold out.

    3. Ultramarines 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Company banner symbols! Scout- and Terminator-sized shoulder pad markings! Properly colored vehicle roundels! Tyrannic War Veteran logos!

      TAKE MY MONEY!!!

    4. Idk. 10 years qgo this would have been cool. Now we have sculpted banners. I dont see why i would want these over the sculpted Banner? Same for the DW termi decals. 10 years ago these would have been worth a lot to me. Then came FW and now GW sculpted DW shoulder pads. Why would i ever want these?
They are not exactly cheap either?

      Delete
    5. I agree with you there seb. However, the banner graphics and some of the other icons are pretty awesome. Also the FW sculpted pads are better - but i have a lot of termies with bare/poorly painted icons on bare shoulder pads. This will be nice to put on them. I'm sure others are in the same boat.

      Delete
    6. Hi Seb. The banner decals are designed to be placed on the blank canvas of the plastic banners, if I'm understanding correctly. That may look more realistic than the fully sculpted banners. We will see.

      Delete
    7. At least for the Ultramarines, the decals represent the emblems of the first three Companies. I'm not aware of any sculpted banners that recreate specific Ultramarine Companies.

      Delete
    8. Decals are never as vibrant as real colores and you still need to buy a Banner. i dont see much benefit unless youre a total no skill at painting. I wich case you will let others paint for you or Rock plastic grey or spraypainted 1 colore & Not careing.

      Delete
  4. Does the corax white spray replace skull white? Should I be panic buying the skull white spray?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. that depends, do you LIKE the skull white spray? i always found it kind of sub par.

i imagine it will be replacing the skull white spray tho, im surprised that didnt go when actual skull white paint went with the rest of the old paints.

      Delete
    2. Super glad if it does replace Skull White. That stuff always comes out all thicky and chalky, even if the atmospheric conditions are *perfect*

      Delete
    3. It says that it is replacing skull white but it is a slightly off white that enables you to see detail better. Apparently it is also smoother and shades apply better directly onto it. The only reason I think you need to panic buy is if you want to save money - at least thats my opinion.

      Delete
  5. im not saying the BA and SW shouldnt have upgrade frames, because everybody should. but can we not get frames for the chapters who have NOTHING first at least?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. according to WD only 4 chapters upgrade kits are getting made or that is what it implies/leads you to believe (as it doesn't mention more in the future, but this is normal)

      Delete
    2. I doubt the less populare chaptors will ever get these.

      Delete
    3. Because Forge World does stuff for the other Marines and not BA, DA or Wolves?

      Delete
    4. looking at forge world's salamanders range (an army im very keen to do once the new codex drops), its really sub par. Aside from the heresy stuff, theres a couple sets of not-so-pretty shoulder pads, a set of "eh" heads and torsos, some dated looking tank doors, and a dreadnought. no sign of unique melee weapons, captain heads, or other little trinkets, as we've seen on the new upgrade sprues.

Not to mention i would greatly prefer plastic to resin, especially if i can support my local gw store by buying them, something i cant do by ordering from forgeworld.

      Delete
    5. That's all fair enough, I can't think of any other reason though :]

      Delete
  6. Yeah I'm definately making a Ragnar Blackmane out of that. Just so happens that while taking some trash to my local tip (that's like the dump for you Americans out there) I spotted an old Games Workshop Mega Paint Set box just sitting there with enough parts to build 4 Space Marines inside! Looks like these upgrade kits will allow me to make them into something worthwhile!

    1. Makes my conversion of Krom to Ragnar way easier. Buying one ASAP! /happy dance

      Delete
    2. My thought process exactly. With the new head option and the Frost Sword (at last!) we can finally make an easy Ragnar! Also, with the right handed Axe and Sword we can finally make Thunderwolf Cavalry easily too!

And here I was buying Nemesis Force Swords this whole time... hurray for chronic laziness meaning I never glued the damn things on ;)

Anyone know what the GBP cost is per sprue? Ta!

      Delete
    3. £8 accordingly to the pics I think. Bargain price these days.

      Delete
    4. Thanks mate, sounds reasonable enough compared to the old sprue cost and I can imagine the key items being £1/£2 a pop each on eBay anyway - may as well bulk buy these and pop the shoulder pads on eBay :)

      Delete
    5. Wish the DA sprue had anything useable like that. Its just old parts reused on the sprue.

      Delete
    6. Aye. Lots of redundancy here but one thing these new sprues have over the old ones is far higher quality and sharper detail.

      Delete
    7. In what exactly?
The Sworde is from RW command
      The pads are from DV
The helemt is the only thing that is new in plastic Version.

Something new would have been nice. Cant care much about hypotetical more detail.

      Delete
  7. I don't even play Dark Angels but I'm disappointed that the robes are going away.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. they arent going anywhere, you can still pick up the veteran squad, which is just the sprue of robed guys plus a sprue of weapon/command bits i believe

      Delete
    2. They just charge an extra £8 or £9 for some bases, a transfer sheet and some instructions =P

      Delete
    3. is that all it is? damn... but still, £20 for 5 veterans is a steal these days

      Delete
    4. Yeah, I thought it'd be more extra stuff too so I bought a sprue for spares and a box of Veterans. They were literally identical sprues!

      Delete
    5. In the veterane box there is also the special weapons sprue from the old tactical Squad Too... So you have some more bits...

      Delete
    6. The DA vets kit comes with the weapons sprue that came with the old Tactical Squad.

      Delete
    7. Ah, fair point, forgot about that (probably because I used spare special weapons on them anyway)

      Delete
    8. Odd that there is a hooded head on the new sprue. That points to either a) robes on a forthcoming Dark Angels Tactical Squad, or b) the Company Veteran kit will remain available for a long time yet.

      Delete
    9. i dont imagine they would straight up axe the DA vet kit, maybe replace it, but not get rid of with no replacement. didnt the white dwarf show the head used on a non-robed body?

      Delete
  8. Nice pieces for a fangsword or blackdeath.. too bad they couldn't put a SW melta gun on there though... 20 pieces for the DA but only 18 for SW seems a bit unfair lol

    ReplyDelete

    1. also a shame that all the pads are for ragnar's boys, not that the pads are what is drawing me to this sprues, but still

      Delete
    2. I feel The Sons of Russ don't do so badly by comparison - pads are a shame, would much rather have had Logan's pads as they're more universal but by my count, Frost Sword and Axe were the one thing we didn't have easy access to, taking the likes of Melta/Flamer to be readily accessible via eBay (albeit vanilla, but the standard kit is strong enough to make the gun less critical to the overall aesthetic I find).

Colour me impressed GW, apologies to other chapters that got a little stiffed by comparison... if it makes you feel better I'm still waiting for those Rubric Marines too, wishful thinking these sprues pave the way for those to actually happen soon :)

      Delete
    3. i am sure one of those wolf skulls can fit quite well on top a vanilla melta. i'd test it out to be for sure but i'm not going to waste parts on a conversion most of you could do with ease.

    5. I feel that this is a real missed opportunity to not give SW a Wolf Priest wolf skull head and a SW style Crozius since the only wolf priest they have a min for is Ulrik. In saying that the Frost Sword and axe are nice and I may grab a few of these for the sholder pads

      Delete
  9. Oh look the Assault Marines have a Storm Shield and special weapons... Heh... Well fancy that... Now who was it said they didn't?

    1. Combat Shield :P

      Sorry nit-picking

    2. eviscerator is the big change/addition (you can see it named in the photo description). The other options are all the same.

      Delete
    3. Yea Damo, I seem to recall that same rumor... Looks like somebody's guess work was a tad off.

      Delete
    4. Could you attach a combat shield to a pistol arm before?

      Delete
    5. You were always allowed a pistol and shield but the only one with both sculpted before now was the company champion in the command squad box.

      Delete
    6. according to the blurb on the side, the shield is a seperate piece entirely and can be attached to any arm

      Delete
  10. Also the headlines say SW transfers but the redirect doesn't support this claim

  11. Ok. The Space wolf Upgrade kit replaces four much needed bits that have not been place on the other ( imho ) frist the wolf head backpack. Much need.. As some how it got left off in the last update.. A porper one handed frost axe and Sword. And a wolf pelt.

Is it me.. Or dose that look like the axe from the limted figure that came out with the ork / wolves box last year?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. the axe is similar, with its jagged edges, but the one from stormclaw was double-headed

      Delete
    2. I do love the pelt and backpack - OCD dictates I have to hope the pack is exactly the same as the old one; the pelt looks different which is fine for me as I predominantly want a unique look for Ragnar, but man do I need to stock up on those Swords and Axes. I'm thinking those helmets could make some nice looking Lone Wolves or Battle Leaders (although again, I used the old Wolf Head to make power armour Wolf Guard, so OCD dictates I can't use the new one!)

      Delete
    3. Where do we source our meltaguns now though? I loved the old upgrade sprue for those :(

      Delete
    4. For the avoidance of doubt, I have no loyalty to this seller beyond the good will they've earned by always delivering and being fairly coated vs. demand, but if you need Marine/Wolves parts he usually has a great selection, (if memory serves it's free delivery over £20 too).

      http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/171766352308?nav=SEARCH

      Delete
    5. To me the back pack looks similar in style to the one that came with Krom in Stormclaw

      Delete
    6. The axe and power pack are both *very* similar to Krom's. The pack is basically just missing the banner thing on top and the heads on the vents are angled slightly less. The axe is basically Krom's less one head.

I'm pretty happy with the new sprue but slightly disappointed that now when I need more melta's that I'll have to resort to bitz sellers gouging me for a dime-sized piece of plastic :(

How good are the finecast one's from the GW webstore?

      Delete
  12. ...glad I got super lazy and never assembled any of my blood angels, might have to grab some of these upgrades. The one thing that annoys me about Marines of any flavor is I suck at putting transfers on their shoulders.

    1. Here is the procedure:

      - Coat of gloss varnish, let dry
      - Apply decal, let dry
      - Coat of decal solvent, let dry
      - Repeat until decal fully conforms to the surface
      - If necessary, make vertical cuts with a sharp razor blade and/or scrape off wrinkles with ultra fine sanding film
      - 2nd coat of gloss varnish, let dry
      - Coat if matte varnish, let dry

Do this and you'll have designs that appear printed directly to the model.

  14. $42AUD for a transfer sheet... are you fucking kidding me GW???
I expected the upgrade sprue to be $25 so I was pretty close there....

I just bought the Cult Mech Mars transfer sheet for $22.... why the hell is this one double the price.
It's like they really don't want us to buy things over here.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. as Atia said elsewhere: sheet is same size as FW ones, example size of a WD or bigger. the ones you bought are smaller sheets with less on.

more or less what she said.

      Delete
    2. also i never have used a transfer on my many hundreds of marines, i have sheets dating back to 1998. most are good condition as well. GW keeps on making them and i keep on adding to the cupboard of forgotten transfers. the bits are nice though.

    3. Usually other players give out their decals for Free. Just ask.
I could litter you with decals. Could not sell them on ebay for 1 Cent. ;D
      Who buys these anyway???

      Delete
    4. That's twice that someone mentioned FW transfers.... Those are 12.5GBP... that's $25AUD... not $42.

These new ones cost almost twice what the FW ones do.
Sure they have more colour and are prettier but $42!!!! seriously?

Not to mention that it's a $10AUD mark up off the US price.... FOR A PIECE OF PAPER!!!

No it's not the bloody shipping costs

    5. Welcome to one of the most expensive countries in the world. You should be use to it, everything is expensive here compared to the rest of the world.

    6. @Seb: Me. I love decals. They are a vital part of the hobby for me. I lament that they are not used more often. When properly applied they make models come to life.

    1. may i offer up an idea? (proceeds to anyway) try see if rust stalkers work as proxy bionic legs (or use cron bits mixed with marine bits)

      Delete
    2. Use cron parts for bionics.
      Bitz stores usually sell themcheap.

      Delete
    3. As an Iron Warriors player I can say that the actual conversion kit bitz vs 'cron bitz comparison is night and day. Sure, it looks ok but compared to the actual sculpts it doesn't hold a candle.

      Delete
    4. Anvil industry. makes some cool looking bionics.

    5. Yes they do, they're glorious.

  19. Those transfer sheets are tremendous (literally and figuratively).

As to the whiners concerning other chapters: face it - these are the "Big 4" for the Loyalists. It's a perfect dichotomy to Chaos (which also will (soon) have a completed Big 4).

Sorry, but they simply can't justify making bits for 7823 chapters; not with everything else going on. Besides, FW does a lot of that already. It's better to focus on mainstay products when it comes to a cash cow. Every good company does it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So mic check doogle, which are these "Big 4" traitors? (There is a right and wrong answer) hint WB

      Delete
    2. So I know what you're getting at Mada but what McDoogle is referring to (I believe) are "poster boy" chapters/legions. I.e. Ultramarines, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Space Wolves and World Eaters, TSons, Death Guard and Emperor's Children respectively.

      Delete
    3. I'm assuming he is referring to the chapters that invaded Terra (per the Horus Heresy board game): World Eaters, Emperor's Children, Death Guard, Thousand Sons, and Sons of Horus (Black Legion). That's five but close enough?

The Cult rules cover the first four and the generic Chaos units cover the Black Legion. I wish there was more but that's what we got, not counting Crimson Slaughter.

      Delete
    4. See, here's where I fundamentally disagree with most chaos players. I run a Iron Warriors army. A fluffy one at that, big guns, long range, cultists as chaff, daemon engines, the works. If I wanted to play Word Bearers it'd be a bunch of cheap unmarked sorcerers with Malific, possessed and daemon allies. Night Lords? No problem, Raptors, Jump pack lords, heldrakes and lightning claw chosen. The tools are there it's a good general who can make 'em work. (Not to toot my own horn) (but seriously, I'd put my csm up against anyone)

      Delete
    5. Your attitude is better than mine on this topic. (Some of) the units favoured by each Traitor Legion exist in the codex, but many Chaos players envy the variety, background, and hobby coverage lavished on the Loyalist chapters. That, and many of the woefully outdated models are fit to be melted in a kiln.

      Delete
    6. Your last statement I cannot disagree with. We need new models. Like, I'd take out a loan if they dropped new boxes for the for cult marines. And yes, we could do with some new, expanded fluff. And a but of variety wouldn't hurt but I like making my own fluff and I like playing my CSM and I'll figure out how to make it with no matter how derpy my models look or how my codex stacks up at adepticon. I'm a casual. No need to be all serious about my grimdark game.

      Delete
    7. +1 to all this, it would be nice to get any kind of new sculpts for chaos.

      Delete
  20. I personally hope for a BT and RG set of upgrade sprues in the future, but the ultra and da ones look incredible.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I hope they just do a crusader squad box entirely

      Delete
    2. you dont like the current black templar sprue? i still think it looks incredible, even years after release

      Delete
  21. As I said in the other post; Forge World handle pads and some torsos for most of the Loyalist chapters, but not DA, BA or Wolves.

That's why those three chapters get their own upgrade sprues. GW generally don't like pinching revenue from FW so I personally wouldn't expect plastic Marine accessories for any force FW already provides for. :(
