Combined Admech!- Next Week's Exclusive White Dwarf Formation

Next week's White Dwarf hints mentioned an exclusive formation coming, and this rumor declares it to be a combined Adeptus Mechanicus formation that combines all the elements of what we have been getting released over the last couple months.

Skitarii, Knights, and Cult Mechanicus into one formation!!!!! Nice.

Please remember that at this point this is still a rumor.

  1. I'm thinking part of this is that bundle on the GW website that includes
    - A Knight
    - Two Onagers
    - Three Dragoons
    - Two boxes of Kastelans

Sounds like a load of fun to me!

    1. If so i am pretty happy, just preordered the 2 box's of robots, got the rest, be a nice machine god tribute :D

Really hope i dont have to end up buying 1 of all the admech boxs for it though xD

    2. Though, i just realised by "exclusive" it could mean you must buy the pack, i hope they dont do it like the 5 knights package, would be annoyed if i own all in the box and "nope cant have it".

    3. Does anyone have the rules for the 5 knight one?
And usually the pdf for the formation is found online.

    4. I haven't seen that exclusive one pop up yet unfortunately.

But this makes me feel better about painting all of my new Knights as House Cadmus instead of Raven, I guess I can use my Raven knight with this formation

    5. Yeah, not seen it yet :<

Though wonder if GW would be kind enough if i took a picture of my army saying "please GW i paid for it already as a loyal customer" xD though i know, wont work :<

    9. Now that I've finally seen it, I think I'd rather use a different formation. It's basically an Exalted Court with some pretty neat additional rules at the expense of being able to choose your Knight patterns. I'm not a fan of the Warden (it requires you to take two) and I really like the Gallant (there are none).

    10. took you long enough guys to find it......or what you got atleast...i have the datasheet/formation rules page (admittedly it's a scan, but hey told ya it was online)

  2. This is great but it's a shame for my wallet, I wish gw had released 1 codex instead of 3!!

    1. Well, Knights don't belong to AdMech, so no reason for them to be in the codex.

The Cult and the Skitarii are also very different factions with highly specialized roles (often not requiring a full-scale army).

They are at the disposal of various Imperial groups, though they sometimes carry out tasks on their own.

They are, by definition, sub-factions. Hence the smaller codices.

      Delete
    2. And yet Skits mobilize billions to secure a STC.

      Sub-faction indeed.

    3. @McDoogle: neither did Assassins or Inquisitiorial Henchmen in the 2011 GREY KNIGHTS codex, but nobody complained. On the other hand now we sorta do since the GK dex is so lacklustre

      Delete
    4. Could be trillions but they are still under the umbrella of AdMech and still a sub-faction of them.

      Delete
    5. Surely you must realise they are only a "sub-faction" because GW wants it that way.

You can't use their own made up reasons to justify that. All it takes is one small tweak and they magically become a full book.

So realistically, they could have easily had a full release for a full army. But they decided to nickel and dime it out. Saying that fluff was the reason instead of $ just sounds ignorant.

    6. Take codex Skitarii, align codex Cult Mechanicus next to it, tape the spines together, and there's your complete Adeptus Mechanicus codex.

GW claims they don't make much money from the books. I think they just had too much background built up over the years to fit in one book.

      Delete
    7. Another thing, they've been putting a lot of the Adeptus Mechanicus background in WD. None of it appears in the codexes. Too much background, not nearly enough space.

    8. I think starchild it was more they wanted to break the admech release up over time so as to give other factions some love instead of a 2 and a half month "all admech all the time" release. especially true as I know the 2 month DE release schedule a year or two ago annoyed a lot of their shop managers.

    9. well by the logic that skitarii is a sub faction of ad mech, blood angels, space wolves and dark angels should all be in space marine codex...

I like that they are different books, more fluff, warlord traits, formations, artifacts, detachments etc to choose from... Plus they aren't full codices, the skitarii one is 2/3 the price of normal dex, i believe cult one will be same cost. So in total it is just 1/3 extra which is fine by me! :D

Moreover I want them to release similar mini-dexes in the future. myrmidons, legio cybernetica, ordo reductor would all be really cool to see

      Delete
    10. Don't forget the chapterhouse ruling. They can't risk releasing rules before models for the rules.

  3. Sweet. Well, already have a lot of Skitarii and a Knight. I hope the formation gives some sweet buffs, like being able to use Doctrina Imperatives and Canticles of the Omnissiah across all units.

    1. NO WAY that's going to happen. It will likely be a set of rules unique to the formation, otherwise it's pointless.

      Delete
    2. stranger things have happened. i wouldn't put it past GW. if not meh not important

      Delete
    3. WOW. If doctrina and canticles were usable across all units that would be incredibly good. Kataphrons with BS5 heavy grav weapons? Or castelan robots with BS5.

Yeah i can't see it happening due to fluff reasons too, as doctrinas are specific for skitarii..

      Delete
    4. well to be fair they have added things that have different fluff only to later get a special rule or wargear which b4 would be fluffpossible (impossible) so because we cannot see it, doesn't mean we won't see it.

      Delete
    5. all those models with Eternal Warrior etc are the proof/evidence we very well may see it happen, if we get a unified dex then it'd be silly to not half expect it to happen. both believe in the Omnissiah, both are factioneers of the same faction......and again if not meh...not important/

  4. Iirc if its a formation, you cannot have a warlord.?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Formations have no force organization restrictions. Nor do non-CAD detachments, except whatever is defined within said detachment.

A Warlord can literally be any character (unless otherwise specified).

      Delete
    2. In this case the formation will probably designate the Tech Priest Dominus as the warlord.

      Delete
    3. warlord can be anyone from any formation, detachment or otherwise(if unbound).
The only restriction is that if you have at least one character warlord must be character. And allied detachment specifies that your warlord can't be from that detachment. That's it

  5. This formation probably clocks in around 2,000+ points or thereabouts.

  8. As I said - combination of Ad Mech forces, sweet <3

  9. Well, I am curious as to the formations benefits. I already own all the stuff in it except one more box of kastellans, so there'd be that...
Speaking of those, I am just assembling mine (headswap ahoy), but I have to say, as good as the datasmith looks, he really suffers from monopose syndrome. I'll replace my second one with a enginseer with, again, a headswap and some minor modifications.
Also, the pdf of the Exalted Court of House Terryn just got leaked. Took little under a week, huh? That's pretty long by internet standards.

  10. That initially got me very excited, then I realized the formation will most likely force us to use the ugly robots :(
