The latest novel Ravenwing from the Black Library has been a hot topic off and on, since we are very close to seeing a new codex. What we are looking for is a listing of new units that may be in the new Dark Angel codex, especially anything new, that will separate the Dark Angels from what a standard Space Marine chapter will look like.

Below is a list of some new possible units that could make a codex. Enjoy.

BTW..... Its good to be back online.

I've been reading the new novel Ravenwing, and while I'm not finished yet, the first battle introduces several new units we haven't seen before. I would not be surprised at all if these were cribbed from the new codex in some way.

First, we have the Vengeance-pattern Land Speeder. They're described, "Vengeance-class speeders spewed a torrent of plasma fire at the smoke-shrouded walls while rockets slammed into the ferrocrete barrier from the Tornadoes."

Then we have the Darkshrouds. They're described:
"Modified from the standard Land Speeder chassis, each anti-grav vehicle carried a pitted, ancient statue from the Chapter's fortress-monastery. The solemn hooded figures glowed with power, coils of cable sending nascent warp energy through arcane generators that threw out an all-concealing blanket of darkness. As they joined the attack, the shadow of the Darkshrouds enveloped the dropsite, obscuring the Thunderhawks as they touched down on plumes of plasma."

Also described are Dark Talon and Nephilim fighters. They don't have any physical descriptions, but the Dark Talons have Hurricane bolters and the Nephilims have Avenger bolt cannons and "Blacksword missiles".

Finally, we have the Black Knights, which appear to be the elite of the Ravenwing and "Sammael's chosen warriors". The book says they have "hammers with beaked heads" (it later explicitly describes them as shaped like raven heads), and they ride bikes with in-built plasma weapons. The unit leaders appear to hold the title of "Huntmaster". They also know more about the history of the Dark Angels and the Fallen than the rank and file Ravenwing, having been "inculcated in all seven Rites of the Raven, possessors of knowledge above their brethren, though not yet made aware of the Fourth Level of Initiation."

  1. Welcome back natfka.
On warseer anither user told he saw:
    - a flyer that looks like the marine version of a Thunderbolt+Avenger mix
    - a quad engine LS with plasma weapon on the back and a nose mounted gunner emplacement

    Hope this is useful.

    1. your jumping ahead of me. A lot to catch up on, but it looks like the rumor mill over all took a little break while I moved. Thanks for the heads up.

  2. :) If Black Knights make into the codex, I hope they have the Crovus Hammers, and an attached Chaplin AND Librarian. Sammy rolls deep...

I think the LS variants will make it to the codex, maybe some other stuff. But this is one book in a trilogy, so maybe not... Gav def has to spice things up and add flavor, could be just that.

  3. Sure the Black Knights may know all seven Rites of the Raven, and be just below the Fourth level of Initiation, but what's their Thetan Level?

Seriously though, I hope they don't go too far down the "Dark Angels have cool dark secrets and nobody gets to play but us" path.

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT?

    1. I have no idea what that even means, either. They glowed, but sent out an all concealing blanket of darkness?

    2. 40k equivalent of popping smoke - obscure the landing site to protect from enemy fire.

    3. Aye sounds like it could be something similar to an ork kff

    4. Sounds like an all units within x inches gain shrouded bubble would work.

      Waagh plant

    5. I read it and had pretty much the same response. "WTF IS THIS SHIT?!?" Sounds utterly moronic and the usual cheap attempt to add a fluff excuse to Ward's overpowered lack of game design.

With this crap and stuff like "Darkshrouds", "Dark Talons", "Blacksword missiles", and "Black Knights" probably carrying "Raven Hammers" there is absolutely no doubt who wrote this codex.

  5. Well, two new landspeeders, two flyers, Black Knights, Deathwing Terminators, new Finecast blisters, plenty enough for me.

  8. Welcome back, I think that darkness thing is Ward.s way of using that Nightfight think the crons have but bring it back to been broking as the crons one got a bit of a nerf.

  9. I like the Dark Angels. They're what Space Marines used to be like before the Rise of The Ultramarines.

I also like plasma stuff. I've never yet lost a model to 'Gets Hot!".

    2. Call me when your plasma cannon devastators open fire on a squard of deepstriking terminators (clumped up, perfect target) and 3 blow themselves up. Those termies then ruined the game, I cried.

    3. Do you play 40k? I seem to loose plasma gunner at least once every two games. Maybe I need new dice ; P

    4. I usually loose about 5.5 for every 100 times I shoot. Give or take a few.

  10. Good lord, Gav Thorpe really isn't that great. Deliverance Lost was iffy and now we have Smokey Statue Speeders?!

    Like...what?! I don't even...

PS - Welcome back Naf :]

  11. Black knights... they should have the "tis but a scratch" special rule. And the model should be of the knight with his squire (the squire should have the war gear two coconut halfs)

      Delete
    2. No, it's a normal feel no pain, but when he takes a wound, instead of being removed from the game he just loses one attack and one WS to a minimum of one. At the very least he can bite people's legs off.

    3. The shouts of "Chicken!!" need a rule though...fear, perhaps?

  12. Darkshroud, Darktalon, Blacksword? This is going to be like the SW codex isn't it? In the grim darkness of the far future we will fight with highly advanced weapons that have moronic names.

  13. To be fair to Gav, the book gets significantly better. It almost feels like he deliberately frontloaded all the mandated codex teases so he could get on with the book.

Anyway, there is another weapon mentioned later for the Dark Talon, the "rift cannon," which in the book has a generic description of firing a beam of warp-stuff and doing significant damage to a spire on a space station. Given that Black Library has a tendancy to make heavy bolters the most devastating weapon ever conceived, take that description to be nowhere near indicative of any actual ingame rules.

  14. Thing is, Gave Thorpe has actually said, he was dicking with the DA "just to shake things up". In my opinion he's one of the worst writers in the stable.

    2. Dunn by far. The book does get better after the strange beginning, and copy/paste session from Angels of Darkness.

    3. Yeah, he's not great, but not horrendously bad either. He's no Abnett, McNeill or ADB...but I am so, so hankful that he's not another Goto :'(

  16. But... Gav Thorpe isn´t writing codex anymore, is he?

So there´s no certain truth that this will become real

    ReplyDelete
  17. Everyone knows how much Ward likes to talk to other authors/designers while he writes a codex!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I still hate Gav after what he did with the 4e Chaos dex. Not too happy with Kelly's 6e Chaos codex just because of what DA will inevitably turn out like.

  19. There seems to be a lot of ifs and maybes surrounding this codex which is always fun. However until the codex is released well never know how close the rumours are. I get the feeling that those who design these codexs sit reading sites like this enjoying the high amount of gossip and bitching that goes on.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It seems the codex will have plasma, plasma that glows darkness, plasma, plasma with cheese, plasma, plasma with whine and cheese, plasma, plasma with plasma...

...really, does every loyalist marine codex have to try to be even more broken than GK, or is this just a Ward thing? (But then again, I'm just a bitter old IG player who pays ludicrous amounts of points for priests, psykers, and techpriests, and who is forced to live with penal legions that cost as much as Veterans, just because I want them on my army list.)

    ReplyDelete
  21. 1 Hope this codex isn't another Grey Knights OP fiasco
2 Hope those hammers really do have raven heads on them so I can steal them for raven guard

  22. In case any of you had doubts as to who wrote this codex I think this post is enough to dispell them.
