2013 is hopefully becoming less of a mystery as we approach the end of 2012. According to this schedule, which conforms to what we have been hearing from Hastings and other rumor mongers, Dark Angels are up next, followed by Daemons, Tau, and Eldar later in the year.

Please remember that these are rumors. Salt is always required.

JAN: Dark Angels
FEB: Daemons
MAR: Wave month (hobbit, warriors of chaos, 40k)
APR: High Elves
MAY: Tau
JUN: Summer wave (40k, supplement book for 40k)
JUL: Lizardmen
AUG: Mystery Box
SEP: Wave month
OCT: ???
NOV: Eldar
DEC: ???

Now, as usual, these things tend to get more speculative as you go outwards in time, but overall these line up with what we've been hearing from a variety of chatter.  We've been hearing for a while that the "Mystery Box" is a fully revamped Blood Bowl.  This list would certainly be a "year of xenos"

  2. I wonder whether Blood Bowl would be received along the same lines as Space Hulk or Dreadfleet. I suspect it might be more popular than DF, but perhaps not as much as SH.

Tau and Eldar this year is good news though!

    1. But blood bowl has more than two teams which means the box would either be disappointing or will at least have some support as there is still the range available. As others have pointed out, the genre has interest growing again and some of the models are still quite nice if I remember right

    2. ^^ the point I was trying to make (and somehow skipped over) is that this hopefully won't be just a distraction for a month but a new edition of sorts for blood bowl

    3. yeah maybe

but its a cash maker... sell x amount of big 90,- boxes in 1-3 months
10 years later recycle the idea

    4. "I think they should stop wasting there resources on these side games "

I hate this idea. For me the second worst thing about GW (after the prices...) right now is their lack of support for a range of games. They used to make so many- Epic, Blood Bowl, Necromunda, Mordheim... and since then they've become pretty damn boring. Nothing but 40k, Fantasy, and LotR.

    5. its frankly ridiculous to try and read Anonymous arguing with Anonymous in response to Anonymous' post

    6. Yeah...especially when anonymous points out his irritation towards himself..

GW should turn the 'mystery box' month into 'specialist games' month.
      a) It would create some variety
      b) it would support the specialist games
      c) It'd make the older player base happy
      d) It'd create a 'breath of fresh air' when tired of 40k/fantasy/other game
      e) It'd make money

      Delete
    7. Yeah, I wish they brought back Necromunda. That was my favourite back in the day. I was always a Goliath player.

    8. Just 40K and nothing but 40K all we need plus more races with codexs

    9. As a returnee to the hobby after 13 years I was completely dismayed to see that GW only sell 3 games, with a random spin off remake of a very old game being the only other release.

The best games GW have made are the specialist games; inquisitor, gorkamorka, necromunda, battlefleet gothic, warmaster, epic, mordhiem, space hulk, man o war(or the recent dread fleet)

So I whole heatedly disagree with you.

And oven if they never made another specialist game, I have just recently got back into fantasy and I must say I'm loving the new rules. 40k only would get real boring real fast

    12. 40k don't need more races, they don't even have the ability to release updated codexes in time for the races they already have. They should release 1 flavor of the edition SM, then all the xenos, then the other SM chapters a lastly before the next edition.

If they cannot release in a good enough pace they should hire more people, or skip doing the games they earn the least amount of money on.

  6. Don't buy 3 full releases between MEQ books. Not even MEQ but also imperial. Plus 7 codex releases in a year (3 for Fantasy and 4 for 40k) pushes the bounds of reason.

Add in that 3 40k codexes and a the starter in a single fiscal year and it doesn't make sense for a consistant bottom line for investors.

    1. Well hobbit stuff is supposed to be irrelevant to warhammer releases now so that leaves some time for new codecs!

    2. Or just maybe GW is changing their release strategy. Privateer press and FF games are continuing to eat into GW's market share. GW now has to put forth some effort to compete to retain their control. This is the same reason I don't see them raising prices again this year.

Srry... not beliveing that they will do 7-8 dexes when they usualy only do 5 max!

And some months in the past have only been Finecast rereleas waves.

  10. So does this invalidate the model release list, or does all of that stuff come either in "waves" & alongside the supplement book? Several plastic sets and new Finecast characters for Sisters without a codex? A metric frakton of Marine releases in "waves" only? Two Christmas seasons of new edition without vanilla Marine codex, sorry, I don't buy that. Marines unavoidably are October or December.

As for the mystery box, I'm hoping for Space Crusade. As for issues regarding HQ & SC and Milton Bradley's probable claim on them, it's doubtful that GW would have allowed MB to retain any intellectual rights beyond a licence agreement, and with 20 years since last release by MB, the trademark would probably have expired anyway (not being an expert in UK copyright law, but remembering that one of the reasons for Space Hulk rerelease was that in order to maintain the trademark GW had to prove they still use it to sell a viable product).

The Classic SC with Marines vs nid crons Orks CSM would Not be logic in fluff. Also why a nother SM featuering Box? Is DV Not enough?

  11. Too many releases to be true even though thats how it should be, if this were true then the product list that was leaked would make a lot of sense and every book that was made for 4th ed would be updated with the exception of BT and orks..too good to be true which is kind of sad..

    1. These rumours are just that, rumours.. There is (as said) a lot of speculation alongside actual evidentiary tidbits.. With that, I'd imagine the list would look more like Eldar - Oct, with 'vanilla SM' in December, for a Christmas cash- grab.. just my 2 cents..

And as to BloodBowl.... w00t! :-). The Living Rulebook, as maintained by The Man Jervis, himself, is becoming a little unwieldy.. I hope they do release it, with the full team roster, and codify things more concisely, and clearly, in order to not only keep 'older' gamers/fans happy, but bring a little fresh blood into the game.. such a shame that it's wallowed in ignominy for so long.. :-(

  14. vanilla marines are gonna be there somewhere for sure. If that release schedule we saw earlier in the year is true at all, there were a lot of things on there that sound more than just update material, ie land avenger and variants, new land raider variant, and the soon to be best hq choice salamanders chapter mast Tu'shan

  22. I dont buy this list i think its way too optimistic, looking at lists from the past compared to actual releases its highly unrealistic, take a look at the lists at the begining of 2012 and compare with actual releases

Half the months are model releases and one specialist game/ boxset means that only 5 months for codexs, 3 for 40k and 2 for fantasy may happen who knows! But previous years show that it probably wont.

I'm looking forward to a rerelease of bb as its an awesome game and the model range is still great though the teams will probably get the fc treatment thats not a terrible thing.

  23. I hope my eldar come along before nov to be honest! Although saying that it will give me time to get the last of them painted and concentrate on my wfb ogres for a while. Loving the idea of new blood bowl though as long as all the races get rules and hopefully new plastic models! Oh and an ogre kingdoms team please!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You can buy the game and all the races teams on the gws site they've never gone out of sale and all the rules are free to download from gw and if you want to build your own pitch, templates and teams its easy to do.

      Delete
  24. They already have the rules for ogre teams, conversion is the name of the game.

I wouldnt count on anything plastic except for the models that come with the starter set, the original models still stand up and it'd be easier for gw to just finecast them instead of remodling for plastic.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The way I've understood is that GW will recast in Finecast any and all models they still want to keep in stock in the order they run out of metal models in their stocks, core or non-core, and all new non-plastic releases are going to be Finecast too. The point being that they can use the existing pewter moulds for casting Finecast (which was formulated precisely this in mind), and the moulds will then last longer, too, because resin is softer still than pewter. I wouldn't be surprised if they had already sold off all the pewter raw material they had way back when they first announced the move to Finecast.

BB, Mordheim and Necromunda I would assume to remain in-stock (ie. recast in Finecast even without separate announcements), as they have the advantage of being in the same scale as the "core" games, allowing the figures to be to be used therein (and vice versa). On the other hand, I would expect that as BFG and Epic run out of stock, they will NOT be Finecasted.

6mm scale (Epic) has really died down after FASA went the way of Dodo (BattleTech became much harder to get into, though new minis are still being made by Ral Partha UK and Ironwind Metals) and even more so after 15mm wargames surged onto the market, so it's basically just serving fans from the 90's anymore, not attracting anyone new.

BFG is likewise mostly for us old-timers only. There is a valid financial reason why Dreadfleet was a limited edition one-off box set. Namely that once you have a reasonable-sized fleet (both BFG and DF play rather similarly, case in point particularly the Eldar ships in BFG), which back in the day cost far less and was built much faster than an army for the "core games", expanding it rarely is as enticing as growing your 28mm army. Also, there's not that much variety you can do with WTFHUEG ships in the 1:20000 scale (BFG roughly, Dreadfleet is probably closer to 6mm/1:285 or 1:350) if you want to retain the design aesthetic within a fleet, as opposed to miniatures depicting a single roughly human-sized individual which allows much more personality and variety. (Flame away, I've got a sizable Epic army and BFG fleet - untouched in the closet for the past 10 years.)

    1. SHHH! They'll hear you!
IMO, I'd bet it's not GW as a whole, but a small vocal dissenting opinion. They included the sisters (albeit one lousy freaking page only) in the new core rulebook, so odds are good that they'll get an update.
But yeah, barring the WD update (which is worse shit then shit), Sisters are one of the oldest mainstay armies that hasn't gotten much in the way of love recently.

  28. Ah, the 6 month rule of Tau codices strikes again... (The Tau codex is ALWAYS 6 months away)

You know, GW really could meet this production rate, if it gets a finger out. For an international company, their output is dreadfully slow. The hobbyist roots really show sometimes.

It still astounds me how little input GW takes up from its customer base. Given it now faces serious competition in the form of other similar games, for this hobby to last they need to become more customer focused, and concentrate on updating rules, keeping codices fresh, and giving veteran players something they want to buy and play.
