The Black Templar have been rumored to being written a couple of times, and have even had unit specific rumors attached to them quite a long time ago. Most of that is forgotten now, and attributed to false rumors.

According to the latest lineups for the next year, they are not even supposed to be released in 2013. However, even a hint that they might be moving forward, is good news for those that follow the Black Templar.

This morning we have rumors that the Black Templar are just getting going. The codex design process is just getting started.

Please remember that these are rumors.

I can tell you that at this stage the black Templars are being written but no definite release is planned.

they are still writing it with plans to start playtesting in about 2-3 months.

nothing yet about new units yet but I can expect more info on them in about 2 months.

  1. Good to hear something on them as they're my favourite Space Marines.

In 5th those dismal psychotics were terrifying for my CSM army. Never played them in 6th so far, but saw a game BT vs Necrons; raped marines were crying everywhere on the table.

    2. You're just jelly that the Templars are total badasses and aren't sissies like the Ultra Smurfs, whom would get squished like little bugs if the Templars ever felt like trying.

  3. who would have thinked more SM are in the works? :D

sry not buying the BT rumor
we had the same rumor in 2011 and 2010
ofc they will come some time... but i don´t see that happening

i don´t expect more than 1 dex after DAs for 2013
since ther will be more hobbit stuff

  4. I was really hopeing that they where getting rolled back into the marine codex, as it gave me hope that design your own chapter rules may come back. Oh well still can hope for the design your own chapter rules.

    1. News of the Black Templars Codex being in the works... Is it Christmas or what? It actually is duh...

This could tie in with the rumours we had back in June I think of specific BT models. A WD update would not have new models in it.

A Black Templar Codex would not preclude GW from including rules to design your own Chapter in the next iteration of the Space Marines Codex.

I would promote a list of Chapter traits akin to those that special characters in the Codex currently have (but expanded to represent the variety of Chapters) that any captain or chapter master could either choose from or buy.

I would shy away from anything that look like the 4th Ed. iteration. It was too open to abuse.

    2. Join the dark side for "designing your own chapter". As for corpse-worshipers - forget it, Big Blue Ultra-Primarch had forbidden it long-long-long time ago. Every smurf must follow Codex Astartes as is.

    3. What do you mean a WD update would not have new models? Were you under a rock when the daemon models came out in summer?

      Delete
    4. I'm talking about the two previous WD Codices, namely Blood Angels a while back and Sisters of Battle last year.

New codex but no new models.

And the daemon release was minis driving rules update, note the other way around. And it was only a partial update, the entire Chaos Daemons Codex was not overhauled.

      So my argument still stands

    5. The way GW does it, it's always models then rules.

  5. I play templars and would love this to be true but this needs a metric ton of salt, i don't know how reliable this source is but its pretty easy to post that gw is starting a codex as its so far away it doesent need corroboration

  7. They need to just drop templars or add them into the codex marines book. So many other legions deserve a codex before them

    1. Exactly. There are too many space marine codexes as it is.

    2. Really? how much dope are you smoking the templars are the furthest removed from a codex chapter, it would make more sense for them to roll in dark angels, while having some interesting fluff they really don't have anything that is majorly outside of the codex marine as far as units, maybe this will change upon the release of their new codex. Let me remind you, templars do not have psychers, larger unit size, melee oriented, previously had some amazing special rules that have been nerfed to shit, limited selection of vehicles, no devs, and no scouts.

So please, tell me what legions deviate more from codex?

    3. Black Templars aren't even a legion, they're a successor chapter. I honestly don't mind the fact that they've got a codex.

      Delete
    4. Reply to Crow. Yeah because if a chapter has a deviation in its geneseed and/or organization then it is entitled to get its own codex.*sarcasm*

      Delete
    5. They're more so entitled than a boring Space Marine founding chapter, like the Fists. However I'm in the camp of thinking that Space Marines should have one codex, with multiple supplementals for chapters, as Chaos should for legions.

      Delete
    6. They don't follow Rowboat Girlymans dumb book so wouldn't fit in a SM Codex and besides, they're the most powerful chapter in the goddamn Imperium, whether Smurfs and Wolves like it or not.

    7. Rawbutt Gorillaman

    8. While I would like a massive book for all marine chapters (which will never happen) I do think Templars are the most deserving of a stand-alone out of all the marines. They deviate more from the standard marines more then Blood Angels, Dark Angels, or even Space Wolves, yet they all get their own codex.

  10. I really wish GW would just go back to the old way of SM Codexes. One big main book and then everyone gets their own small supplement like back in 3rd it worked really well and allowed them to give everyone their own special rules. To be honest I think that only founding legions should have their own codexes and not all of the legions should have it unless every traitor legion also got their own separate book!

  11. Hey now Brother Capt. Rob, I really want my own traitor legion rules. You have no idea how much i miss fielding Iron Warriors and it actually meaning something

  13. The Big List from August has the BT kits the earliest around March-April 2014 (along with the vanilla Marines - doubt that they will release two loyalist Marine Codexes back-to-back), a few "blocks" after "White Dwarf 5" which will be no doubt a Christmas special release. I'm going to play the devil's advocate here and suppose the Astartes Battle Fortress will be a similar deal to the Wall of Martyrs, ie. LE bundle and separate kits out soon thereafter just in time for Christmas shopping spree.

Where was I now... ah, yes. Let's assume for a moment that the list would be true, so H2 of 2013 would have Allies Expansion, Sisters, and Eldar. So if vanilla Marines come out in early 2014, IG in the summer (plastic stormys & Hydra probably along with other gun-Chimera variants too & maybe a revisited Basilisk/IG Artillery kit with new cannon sprues), and Orks somewhere inbetween, then BT could realistically come out in the autumn 2014 the earliest.

Going by the "models first" approach (they finalize the design of the models because the production and production planning has to start early, whereas codex can be put to print almost at the last instant), they have well over a year to playtest the Codex even if it only starts playtesting in a couple of months.
