This morning I have an interesting one, and while I hope there is some truth to it, I am not going to put much stock in it. Its short and brief, but if true, what could be the second release?

Please remember that this is a rumor, and add a little bit of extra salt to it.

A friend of mine told me of a double sized WD and a double release in december. Maybe the new tacticsl/sternguard and assault/vanguard kits will be out in december???

    1. I'll hope that they realized not everybody is into the LoTR/Hobbit games (even though I love the books and movies) and will be releasing Dark Angels along side the Hobbit releases. I don't understand why they would hold off one system because they are releasing something from another system. If they just released stuff from different systems at the same time we would have less chance of ending up with 10 year old codexs 2 editions out of date. Not releasing 40K stuff because your releasing Fantasy stuff, or Hobbit stuff, or vise versa, hoping that that will make people want to buy into that system is dumb, if people want to play a system they will, and no amount of holding stuff back will change that.

    2. Thats like saying "i hope they realize every one isn't into 40k so they release warhammer alongside". They would have to release something from each line every time if that was their thinking.

  2. If its twice as long does that mean it'll be $25?

    1. Probably, but at least they've given you the privilege to buy it...

    2. Until it sells out in a single day like all these other LTD.ED shenanigans they keep pulling...

  3. Can't wait to find out. I'm sure there'll be some preview pictures at the end of next week or a little after.

  4. Doesn't that just mean one wave with two boxes? Or maybe just the usual hobbit entail with some small release like the WOC + CSM wave this month.

    1. There were CSM released this month?!

    2. Cultist 5-man Box.

    3. Ahhhhh, of course. Hardly a mention worthy release if you ask me. But, it could be along the lines the Daemons/WoC updates.

      Delete
  5. Well, as it stands now, at the most we could be getting the Hobbit AND the DA line. At the lower end of things, it could just be Hobbit and a supplemental wave.

  6. Well, I guess they'd sell out the butt? I'd buy two, at least, and I know almost every SM etc. player would get atleast one.

  7. They should release some chaos kits like the hellbrute or plastic cultist/obliterators. Sadly this will not happen :-(

    1. They released fine cast oblits and they are actually better and cheaper than the old metal ones were. I think that because they are a larger model you dont have as much warpage and miscast as you do with the smaller things but hell even the last small finecast model I got was in good shape so maybe they finally heard everyones complaints and stepped up to the plate

      Delete
    2. Finecast has been pretty good for quite some time now! Even at the beginning you could return finecast, no questions asked, for a swap.

      Delete
    3. i got my first ever finecast in the form of huron blackheart a couple weeks back. holy crap was that thing nice. i had heard all these horror stories about the quality and was rather pleasantly surprised. of course he then tumbles off the table edge and snaps his axe in the first game.
fortunately that crap is so light it fixed perfectly right away. over all i'm happy, just watch your elongated bitz.

    4. That's what she said

    5. I dont mind the new fincast oblits at all. Infact, I think they look pretty sweet! All you need to do it replace that rediculous head they come with. I personally use Forgeworld Iron Armor MkIII heads cut to size and they end up looking pretty bad ass.

    6. Yeah i got Deathleaper, the Warp Smith, Sonic Weapons upgrade pack, 2 Noise marine upgrade packs and 2 1k Sons upgrade packs and Ahriman all in Finecast and there was not a single fault apart from some slight Warpage that was fixed with a bit of warm water.

      Finecast now = good.

  8. I want to believe. They have been changing up their MO lately. Also if they have a bunch of stuff in the can just waiting why not? I'm sure their stock wold jump right before xmas and investors would be thrilled with a big year end up tick...

    1. Um... Financial year end (which is what investors are normally interested in) is in April. Quarter end is not until the end of January.

    2. Actually, you are wrong. Financial year end (called fiscal year) is 01 October.

  9. Be still my heart, I hope it is a double release including Dark Angels. But I am pretty sure this will be Hobbit / holiday junk. :(

    1. You're probably right, it'll be the hobbit & those 'mega bundle' boxes...

      Delete
    2. I'll hope for a Dark angels and Hobbit release. i'll cross everything for it (and with arthritic fingers thats not easy) but i dont expect it....

      Delete
    3. Mega bundles are already up for order, my local shop has rec'd and sold his Walls already. It won't be that. If anything it will be hobbit / odds and ends. As far back as I can remember GW has never done a double main. As a DA player I would love to have my models and dex, but I also believe in reality

  10. Double release would be nice before christmass, problem is that today I have received newsletter from GW that there are last days if you want to order something before christmass. Therefore whats the point of releasing many new models if you want sell them before Xmas.

  11. I see no way they will do a Hobbit release + a 40k codex/armies book caliber release. I'd expect Hobbit + something supplemental - on the scale of the chaos warriors/other odds and ends we saw this month. Who knows, maybe we'll finally see some new flyers or something on that level.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new WD has some heft to it - there will be heavy Hobbit coverage to lure current gamers into buying the box for Xmas. Yet, will still need some 40k and Warhammer content to round it out. The trick will be whether we see substance, or just a thick Hobbit advert.

  12. IIRC, they did a double back when LotR was released, Where half was WD, and the other half was backward and was the first release of LotR?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, I definitely remember that. Two front covers to a reversible WD.

Could be there is some veracity to these rumours, or perhaps just the inspiration used in concocting a false rumour.

      Delete
    2. Yes i do remember that double cover WD...
This december WD could ve indeed like that maybe with buffer size (10€ instead 8€ maybe)...
Even of i would like DA with Hobbit next month i guess we will se something like walls of martyrs or flyers...

  13. Hopefully they'll at least put back the 15 pages of content which went missing in the second of the new WDs. Actual content that is not just 15 extra pages of photos of the double release....

    ;-)

  14. Hmm...lets see. Surely they wouldn't release other models to compete with The Hobbit sales, and we know The Hobbit is part of the WD. So, maybe a white dwarf codex/army book update without new models. I'd be a little jealous, but it would be awesome for the players of one of the forgotten armies, Sisters of Battle or Black Templars to get a surpise update. Heh, don't get your hopes up though. Lol

  15. Hobbit & BloodBowl? Two boxes, two presents. One that will run forever, the other "Whilst Stocks Last".

  16. DA and Hobbit.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Bah, my credentials wont load, anyhow you can wish until a blue moon, it wont be DA. It will be Hobbit and a bunch of stuff for other armies. If they released DA the same time as the Hobbit, foretaboutit; the Hobbit would be barried under a heavy layer of who cares.

It is far more likely that we will be seeing Hobbit and CSM second wave. I would also wager on some scattering of other stuff will be in there as well.

    1. I think most people are already listing the Hobbit stuff under the 'who cares' category. :)

      Delete
    2. Every one mentions a "CSM second wave", but there is no second wave coming any time soon, I asure you. The kits people want are: Chosen, Cultists, Helbrute and new plain CSM's, three of which are included in DV and would receive not benefit (from GW's perspective) of an individual release, and the regular CSM's feature heavily throuhout the Chaos Codex, if they were to release a new kits it would have been at the same time as the Codex.

  18. What about hobbit + flyers?

  19. In honor of Stickmonkey, I predict GW will release some models in December. They will have rules and be able to do stuff.

  20. It'll be the launch of the new 'Hobbit 40,000'.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If its true I would guess it would have:

Hobbit. Lots of minis, lots of new stuff. A BIG release.
Bloodbowl or some other boxed game.
The Army boxes and other Christmas stuff.

I would doubt there is going to be another release. However if there was I would put my money on either DA or fliers, but neither seem likely.

  22. The time is now! Characters for Dark Eldar! Voidraven Bomber! I want to believe!

  23. Characters for Dark Eldar would be most welcome!

  24. Nope, just individual walls of martyr (skull trench thing) bits and a missions expansion book far too early...

  25. And maybe it's just "Crusade of Fire"....

  26. Hobbit and an announcement that Tau are six months away. :P

( First rule of Tau: The new codex is always six months away)

But seriously, they won't want to dilute their focus by having two major releases. Just confuses the neophytes, which are the main target of pre-xmas business. GW is well aware that veteran players are too invested to walk away over something like a 2year delay.

  27. GW shop on Saturday hinted that there "might be" Hobbit releases in the next WD. And as the Moria box set has been withdrawn, draw your own conclusions, so does that mean a substitute box set will be announced? Time will tell.

    ReplyDelete
  28. New Line Cinema would go ape if they released anything of substance in competition with the hobbit. By double WD it will mean a ton of Hobbit along with the regular content expect the WalMart to play heavily in that.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Folks, if anything its just going to be a hard hit for the Hobbit stuff, there is no way New Line Cinema will allow anything to compete with the rlease of the Hobbit at this point. I get all the players that desperately want the release for Dark Angels, but it just doesn't seem too likely with the release of the Hobbit in December
