Someone has already received their White Dwarf subscription in spanish, and here are the first images courtesy of La Taberna De Laurana.

Something I want to plug with this post is non-english sites. browsers like Chrome allow easy translation to other languages, and allows our hobby to communicate across cultural boundries. Its something I highly suggest doing on occasion.

The Hobbit models are out. For all of you who are mad that the hobbit is taking place of a 40k or warhammer release, the goblins would make great nurgle daemons or zombies.

  2. Forget the front, I want the teaser in the back

    1. The back hasn't been a "teaser" in a long time. Where have you been?

      Delete
    2. The last 2 both featured prominent Hobbit pictures opposite the calendar in the back, which seemed to be teasing this months hobbit release.

Admittedly before that was a Dark Angel which seems a bit misplaced in hindsight but they are certainly coming soon, so it stands to reason there's some information about coming releases to be gleaned from those images, i.e. they are teasers.

    3. Whatever happened to the dark angel on the spines of the old white dwarf, did the image get finished or was it half-done when the new white dwarf came out?

    1. It would be the individual pieces of the limited edition trenchline they just released.

  4. Well doesn't look like a double issue so 40k will probably be minimal. I'll have to be rebellious and jump threads here.

...and now for something completely different...

couldn't post for a week and the Templar rumor reminded me of the music-to-paint-by post so...

It's not traditional 40k music but I had a wonderful time painting a Templar army to Sam Robert's "The Last Crusade" ;)
It really worked in an odd sort of way.

  5. Mabey its just me, but I've always thought of the hobbit as the retarded little brother of the lotr books.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not retarded, just juvenile-and that deliberately. Hobbit was written for children while LOTR had adults in mind.

      Delete
    2. What is retarded is that they're going to spin the movies out over three films. This can only mean that Jackson is going to pee-pee all over the original and he will HAVE to add additional material to the script to spin it out. Why not just make a stand alone movie from the book, certify it as PG and be done with it!

Gutted to find out they're making it into three.

      Delete
    3. I could see 2, with some work...not 3.

      Delete
    4. Its 3 because they are including appedices events from both the hobbit and lotr books. which means you'll see the white council together to staop sauron in mirkwood, etc. this trilogy has the potential to be better than lotr and much less rushed, as return of the king got all the awards but was easily the biggest abortion of the 3 books

      Delete
    5. Return of the king got all the awards mainly in recognition of the entire series rather than give them the same awards for each movie released, that way lotr still gets the awards but it allows other films to get them in the interim so they don't miss out!

  7. Hi from La Taberna de Laurana!

    Thanks for the post, Natfka!

On our comments section Victor, the man who gave us the pics, also told us these things:

    - No double issue: magazine is 145 pages long. And no other surprise, only Hobbit-themed.

    - In the back cover the magazine has Bilbo and the 3 trolls hahaha

    Thanks again!

    Cheers Natfka!

  8. Are we saying the new WD is really that much better? This looks seriously amateur. I guess people are prepared to hype any attempt for improvement...

  9. Its the same old adds magazine with a new layout.
There is a very bad 40k article in it, where they compare 500p Ork Nobz vs. 500p Wolfguard.
Of course both units on foot.
There is no tactics, no suggestions for layout for use nothing.

On the teaser page is the vampire lord on dragon, whatever that means.

  10. Is it just me or have Gandalf sculpts never been as good as the bridge of Kazah-dum(?) set? The original set with the balrog

    1. That IS a good set. I have a soft spot for the Isildur Vs Sauron set too.

    2. That's what I feel has been missing from lotr, when it linked to the films (and in some of the first supplement packs) it felt more... Cinematic? You didn't just buy a another unit for your army, you bought a scene or a scenario from the story to play through! Yes it was nice to back it up with an extra box of grunts but for me that was what set it apart from the other systems, that's why my favourite sets where the ones with models for good and evil and extras to set the scene like gandalf and the balrog, sauron and isildur, weathertop, Amon hen, Tom bombadil and the burrow wights... Not *another* box of randoms, thats for the other systems.
The most promising looking set in the leak looks to be Bilbo and the trolls if it includes that nifty fire! :P

  15. I hate how this is a lord of the rings/hobbit article and everyone is talking about how bad the movie is going to be and 40k. I love lord of the rings and the hobbit and you 40k nuts need to let other systems get some love instead of 40k, 40k and let me think more 40k.

I love the look of the front cover and look forward to picking some of these up.

    1. Even tho natfka post other GW stuff on here I've always seen this as a 40k blog site and most of the normal commentors are 40k players shouldn't expect us to not talk about 40k

      Delete
    2. I am that 40k nut. Maybe even on that has already cracked. lol

The Hobbit will be the only movie this year I am trying hard to see on opening night. So I am excited for it.

I am also curious what they are doing with the new game, as there will be lots of people that start tabletop gaming with an event like this.

Will this game be popular in my local area? I don't know yet, it depends on what it is.

I think there will be tons of hype about the hobbit for the next few months and more, and I hope GW is able to do well with the game.

I am neutral about at it at the moment, but I will look at it, just like I do lots of other games.

      Delete
    3. I will be surprised if it does *well* but I imagine that depends on your perspective. I suspect it will do what GW want of it. It will sell and cover margins.

I will honestly be amazed if we get many or any new players as a result. No disservice to the game or the product but the demand for a GW skirmish game is no longer there...

  16. They have a designer named Aragorn Marks. ??

    ReplyDelete
  17. That is a terrible looking cover, I am sorry.

The WD redesign has basically amounted to an increase in price, better paper stock, and the same old barely-there hobby content.

  18. Will The hobbit miniatures be subject to the same restrictions as LotR? I mean with GW having a strict policy that you could not use LotR miniatures in any other game? It would be a real hsame as there are some really nice models that could converted into Nurgle stuff in there.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well I imagine the same restrictions will apply in-store and for in-house events but at clubs and between friends go mad have fun roll dice

      Delete
  19. Sigh, so, not bothering with the digital copy if its JUST LOTR and no 40k. You'd think they could throw us a battle report or a detailed conversion article or something every month.
