The holiday is over, and its time to start really looking at what is on its way. It is very apparent according to sources that Dark Angels are comig in January, and it looks like a Daemons update is heading out way for February.

Nothing has changed though from what I have heard, that it will be a White Dwarf insert, instead of a codex/ armybook release. So that is what we have ahead of us, and here is Hastings with a few words on it.

Please remember that these are rumors.

DA would be up for preorder in Dec and Daemons release in Feb

That release order I posted still stands BTW

(in response to the question "will we see blight drones in the release")
Not blight drones but similar, I can see 40k players using the FW blight drones instead of the big nurgle flies ridden by plagubearers that are getting released.

Here is Hastings release order that he had posted previously.

For clarity running order for 40k & wfb =
40k starter
Chaos Space Marines
Warriors of Chaos
Dark Angels
Chaos Daemons/Daemons of Chaos
Tau
High Elves
Eldar
Lizard Men

    1. As Natfka said "Nothing has changed though from what I have heard, that it will be a White Dwarf insert, instead of a codex/ armybook release."

It most likely wont be an actual full codex it'll be like what they had in August and what WoC had last month.

    2. And Lizard men! Hurray! Time to finish mine this spring and summer!

The Hobbit models are out. For all of you who are mad that the hobbit is taking place of a 40k or warhammer release, the goblins would make great nurgle daemons or zombies.

    4. Awsome... tbh daemons don't need a new codex. I have played them since they came out and this is the most competitive they have ever been. Bring on the update!

  2. but he was off by 2 months on CSM
    SOOOO DAs in march then?
    demon april may?

  3. "Nurgle flies ridden by Plaguebearers"
    What.

I thought the whole point of Nurgle at the moment was that the armies would be slow and foot-slogging, but able to take huge amounts of punishment as they walked towards you. Flies ridden by Plaguebearers? I thought Plaguebearers were so disease ridden they could barely stand.

BTW, White Dwarf update makes me sad. A proper codex would be much better, then I wouldn't have to carry a stack of paper to every game.

    1. I agree, I'm somewhat confounded by that description. Does not fit the fluff all that well.
Then again, I'll probably just field my swarm of blight drones again, as the comment suggested. I am curious about the modell, though.

    2. Well, Blight Drones and flying Daemon Princes of Nurgle are very fast, so how are massive blow flies out of place?

Swollen disease-bloated flies fit in like a glove. Maybe they also have a special kin-ship with their disease-ridden riders?

And let's not forget the many Chaos Space Marine Fast Attack units that can have Mark of Nurgle...

    3. Now that I think about it, if you are able to put a Herald of Nurgle on a fast mount it might take them out of the "complete waste of points" category.

  4. 3 40k codexes in less than 6 months? Wow! This is unprecedented.

    1. And unfounded. The daemons release is rumoured to be a White Dwarf update.

    2. I hope it isn't another update. I mean I'd rather have an update than nothing, but it's no replacement for a real codex.

I think updates belong as just that, something nice between codexes, but not a way of postponing army books.

    3. I'm kinda in the 'anything is something' camp on daemons.

    4. It'll be only rules for New Models + prob bringing DPs in line with CSM and so on!

  5. I hope its true, I've been wanting to build a Demon army for some time now, guess I'll put it on hold and wait for this codex : )thanks natfka!

  6. I'm starting to see the White Dwarf up-date as more of a Patch, along the lines of a mmo patch. Or; instead of having to wait years for the entire range of models and codex to be finished, we can get the models and their rules via White Dwarf as each unit is ready. Then all they would have to do is release a compilation of the white dwarf rules in the form of a codex, with the last couple unit up-dates in it instead of a white dwarf.

There really is no pleasing some folks though. I'm really not sure why they are starting to try.

    1. The biggest issue with the WD updates is availability. Because GW doesn't make them available in PDF format the way they used to, it creates a split between players. Imagine walking into a store, buying models and a codex, and finding out when you're playing someone later that your book isn't up to date, and that there is no version of your book available (legally) that has the correct rules. Not a great way to build a customer connection. The best thing to do would be to release a pdf, the most likely thing they'll do is release a $45 digital codex.

    2. @ Ano
Yes some People ...like you... Are Never pleased

Were do you get that they will publish a reguläre dex After WD Update?
Srry dud... They Never do that.
The next Full dex After the Update/Expansion WD will be in 7-8 years Time. So actually if you want to collect demons as Main Army youre going to be unhappy later on!

    3. The whole problem with the White Dwarf updates is that, since GW is not making back issues or PDFs available, what are you supposed to do if you miss that issue? Say I get some extra money and want to start a new army after the update issue has come and gone? If I want to pick one of the armies with a White Dwarf update, I'm up a particular creek without a means of locomotion. I'd say that's a pretty valid issue, not just "never being pleased"

  7. So, last update was new Slaanesh and updated Tzeentch. Next looks like new Nurgle, maybe updated other god? So does that mean that there will be another two updates with the focus on new Tzeentch and Khorne models? 4 gods, 4 updates. Then after everyone buys the WD updates, I can see it all compiled in a "new" codex.

    1. I kinda see the "Nurgle flies" as a way of getting representation from all the chaos gods into the fast attack slot.

I could also see them updating Furies, and tossing in the rumored "Warp Stalkers." Could be a good time to introduce other unaligned daemons into the mix as well.

  8. If its true that daemons will be a WD update, maybe Templars too, then I don't like this one bit.
I thought these would be a good opportunity to update armies to current editions fast.
The way it seems now they are just a cheap excuse to release no codex and still make money of like 1 or 2 models. The amount og 40k codex releases is pretty bad so far, considering the 25th anniversary, a new edition even the first 6th ed codex is rather bland with so many obviously bad choices it hurts.

  10. As im getting a blight drone for christmas (you should have seen the look my sister game me when i showed her the link...) this makes me happy.

but not quite as happy as DA coming soon!

  11. You daemon players are lucky to get another update, even if it is just in WD. Sisters got the WD treatment last fall and havnt seen a single thing since, nor is anything on the rumored horizon!

    1. Exactly, I'm happy.

    2. I'm happy too.... the alternative is to wait years for a new codex. Ill take these updates over that anyday. And for those that don't buy the WD with the rules....why not photocopy them from a friend? Or someone can email you them online. Not too difficult to get the rules now and days if you realy want them.

  14. Still don't get why High elves and Lizardmen, of all things get an update before brets, woodies and dwarfs. Makes me a sad dwarf :(

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well I think its all about the numbers not 100 % here but wood elf and brets are among the low selling end of the WFB line dwarfs tho .... no clue what there doing there. I remember coming a cross a article on the dwarfs basically sating that none of there army books have been able to "capture what a dwarf army is ment to fell like on the table" High eldar and lizard man are among the top makes sense to me.

      Delete
    2. Isn't that the point though, release low selling stuff, give it the "ooh, shiny!" treatment (or in the Dwarfs case: Look Snorri, Shiny!). The sellers will always sell, and releasing new stuff for older books is welcome- like Tomb kings, I don't play them but from what I gather it was well received and increased the amount of people playing them

      Delete
    3. Yes I agree with that, dark eldar the obvious sit here. Howevere there are 15 WFB armys out there Evan if they did 3 a year it well take 5 years to get them all in and up dated and I thnk dwarfs brets and wood elfs are all around 5-6 years right now

      Delete
  15. Hang on, so the original running order Hastings posted didn't have any Daemons until after Dark Angels? Doesn't that suggest it's possible that the order changed and the planned daemons have already been released? Seems more likely than two separate daemon releases within a few months of each other...

  16. And what about using the new Hobbit Hunter Orcs as Chaos Cultists? They certainly look like they are wearing 6+ armour. Might need to file down the pointy ears perhaps. Anyone think of a source for autopistol type weapons?
