Here is a new piece of artwork from the Black Library this morning. They really do put out some of the best artwork for this game, and this one is not found to be wanting.

GUNS + FIRE = COOL
It’s been a while since we’ve trawled through our future covers to bring you something new, but when this piece from Marek Okon arrived in our inbox, we knew we had to share it with you.

We love the fire and smoke that surrounds the warrior. There can be no mistaking the fact that he’s in the midst of a ferocious battle, even though there is no obvious enemy in the picture.

Believe it or not, this is Marek’s first attempt at a Space Marine, and we think he’s got it spot on. From the heavy chains to the brutal studs and armour chips, he’s every bit the image of an angel of death.

This piece will form the cover of The Space Marine Omnibus, a collection of short stories from Victories of the Space Marines, Legends of the Space Marines and Treacheries of the Space Marines, which will be released in summer 2013.

  1. Sweet. Is a testament to the environments power armored marines can fight in. Looks almost like a volcano type landscape.

    1. Replying to first post, shameless I know, but I have news! No idea if anyone's seen this, if yes then my bad. New campaign book called Crusade of Fire, 96 pages, full colour, hardcover, looks pretty sweet!

  2. I really like that art. Very realistic. My guess would be that something has just gone boom!

  3. Always loved the Howling Griffons scheme. Busy as all get out, but looks stellar when it's done correctly, and this is an excellent take on them.

I particularly like the weathering, and dirty rain-slicked look. It mutes some of the vibrant colors than can make them look like they're from a carnival.

    1. I have never been a fan of the Space Marine split tone armor schemes, but this picture makes me not hate it. It is funny how a well composed piece can make something look really good even to someone who was predisposed against it.

This image says "I have kicked much ass this day. Your's is but a pebble upon Our road to glory."

    2. You got a forgeworld book and DIDN'T want to see the models?! Do you understand the point of forgeworld?

    3. No trolling. I just much prefer artwork like this to photos of the models, and I'd hoped that the Horus Heresy might be a special enough subject for Forgeworld to change their normal format.

As for the models... yeah, I see your point. But personally I find seeing them on the website is enough. There are some nicely staged dioramas, though, so that's something.

    1. Dissappointing, I wanted an allies expansion book...

      Delete
    2. Which would include...?

    3. A bunch of basic army lists for allied detactments: HQ, Troop and one or two other slot choices. Tyranids could have genestealer cult (as could imperial guard, maybe some xenos), demiurg for tau, exodites for dark/craft world eldar, deathwatch teams for imperial armies, assassin armies for imperial armies, mercenary armies (kroot/ork freebooterz), some new exiled special characters with personal guard to fill minimum troop choice (limit of 1) to basically field the character (eg. Necron Silent King and triarch praetorian squad), rouge traders, eldar corsairs... And that's off the top of my head! A lot of things could be made from existing ranges with upgrade packs for things like genestealer cults/deathwatch (which already exist in metal) and new blisters for characters

    4. Between IG plastics, Chaos cultists, Empire Flagellants, Necromunda Redemptionists, Mordheim Witchhunter Warband & Crazied Mob, the only things that would be really needed anymore to build a proper standalone Chaos cult or Genestealer cult army are separately purchased autoguns & stub guns & shotguns & heavy stubbers (if you are very strict about WYSIWYG).

Oh, and an alternate army list would be nice for the Nids where you have a Genestealer Patriarch as HQ (immobile but tough as nails and deadly in CC, at least Level 3 psyker), Ymgarl 'stealers still as Elites, Cultists as Troops, and regular 'stealers as Fast Attack - no Heavy Support at all (unless they come up with a new 'stealer type or allow squads of nothing but Broodlords).

    5. As it stand s GW wouldn't release anything like that without the models. Even then, I'd still be sceptical. Cool, but I'm labelling it unlikely.

      Delete
    6. Oh it's majorly unlikely, but the point was it's far too early for a missions add-on book when the rulebook standard templates haven't been played to death. This is either poor scheduling or the beginning of many caimpaign books to supplement 6th edition.

    3. I've also noticed the abscence, but he's probably flat out with work and organising the move I'd say, which is real life, and proooobably more important than plastic toys. But it'll be good to have more rumors coming in!

    4. Yeah that's probably what it is.

Real life is so inconvenient. lol.
