Wall of Martyrs: Sold Out
This is one set I had not yet gotten around to trying to get yet, I've simply been too busy to get a chance to get one. Now it looks like the limited edition set is done, and sold out, at least here in the United States.
There are reports now on various sites that GW Customer Service is saying that these are sold out in the US, which I am assuming will mean Europe will also be sold out in the near future. For me, its just bad timing, and I hope they will be doing another batch.

Still some on the UK Website... Seems i have a tough decision to make.
ReplyDeletePrime
What makes it the limited version? or is it a limited release?
ReplyDeleteI would have bought one but GW once again went too skull crazy for my tastes. To those who did get one enjoy!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more. I couldn't stand designer's interview in WD saying that he tried to AVOID the set to be like a trench... it IS a kinda trench, what's the problem with pieces of metal, barbedwires, and NORMAL things? I don't understand the corpses. Is there any explanation to justify such a design? I am sure he could have done it much better. And in the big set, of course, the details are always in a repeated scheme, that gets rid of any possible sense of realism... to me, imo, a big and pricey failure. Aegis lines were much better, a lot more usefull, and they all looked the same but were different.
DeleteUm...the corpses are there because its the Wall of MARTYRS??? Men have martyred themselves to hold the bunker/trench system and their bodies and bones are still strewn about the wall. At least that would be my assumption.
DeleteDefinition of Martyr: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/_/dict.aspx?word=martyr
So they died OUTSIDE the trench? They are not martyrs, they are idiots. Anyway, it is suposed that thousands of hundreds are constantly dying in our battlefield, but it doesn't have to be filled with corpses. My guess is after making the structure with pieces of plasticard, and even having used bits from the bastion kit, they still didn't see it enough suitable for children that love non-sense corpses and skeletons like a halloween party, so they decided to fill it with some skeleton sprues, some cadian bits (some helmets, that's all) and then use green stuff to add toghether everything. And of course, when it was finished, they decided to call it wall of martyrs to justify such a repetitive scheme of dead bodies dosposed without an aesthetical goal in mind. And by the way, look at the horrible vertical lines that surrounds the skeletons heads or the corpses. The cast is really terrible, the piece is like built from scratch, using bits from other kits, and they sell it as expensive as an original design. The only thing that i like are the floors, and i swear that i would buy the whole set if i wasn't lazy to remove the skeletons and simply place some stones, slate or grass surrounding the wall, that really looks nice to me. IMO, this IS how a 40k defensive stronghold should look like, just take a look at the walls in front of the door... I see no skulls and still is 40k, and glorious:

Of course, i can't even imagine that wall of martyrs near that piece of art
As much as I'd like one, 160 or even 120 seems like a lot for trenches. I'd be interested in a version that came with 3 bunkers and the connectors between them to form a defensive line instead of a trench network. Price it cheaper and I think they'd sell.
ReplyDelete"Price it cheaper, and I think they'd sell" - You know this entire article is about them selling out in the US right?
Deleteclearly they sold anyway...
DeleteYou seem to be in denial about how GW isn't catering to your kind.
DeleteWhich I'm apparently a part of since there's no way in hell I'd spend $100+ for pieces of terrain.
You obviously don't live in Australia :P Nothing gets cheaper these days ^^;
DeleteYep I loves me some of those aus prices
DeleteFaytedHeartless
Ok, they sold out... how many did they make?. How many are still in their headquarters waiting to be sent to stores according to the initial sales? and then, how many of these pieces will be reserved to be sold in a smaller box in a couple of months?
DeleteIn fact, what is the point to do something in "Limited numbers"? And then we are surprised that the "limited" objects are sold out?
It's only one bunker because of how fortifications are bought and the rules for this defensive structure.
DeleteBasically you get 1 bunker and add the walls.
I was told that this is just a limited release for the "big box". The individual pieces will be released separately in smaller sets like they did with the city fight buildings.
ReplyDeleteSeth@BPR6
By the time I can afford to buy it, the Wall of Martyrs will be sold out.
ReplyDeleteShame.
I'll just have to buy miniatures instead.
At the European GW Homepages the wall is still in stock . For Example in Great Britain and Germany.
ReplyDeleteLong live Impulse buying.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, 40k style buildings can be hard to easily scratchbuild but trenchlines aren't hard at all. I made some out of some semi dried out joint compound, scratch wood, and sand my dad had laying around.
ReplyDeleteThen he backed over them as the primer dried in the driveway after spraying.
Were you going for a battle damaged look?
Delete+1
Delete"Titan damaged Trenchsystem", only 350$ from the GW webstore
DeleteCan you not just order one from wayland games then?
ReplyDeleteand ebay probably has 4 or 5 of these up trying to be flipped
I so hope I can get me one of these. Yes they will be released separately but all together is a bonus!
ReplyDeleteMaelstrom has a good special on these.. get em fast
ReplyDeleteLOL
DeleteIt shows as in stock on the US website right now.
ReplyDeleteNeed less imperial based fortifications and more xenos, I play necron elder and tau, sick of trying to scratch build decent proxies
ReplyDeleteJust another marketing scheme from GW. Lol. I recall game developers like Nintendo loves to pull something like this.
ReplyDeleteif they didn't have all the crap all over it I would have bought one (skulls, bodies, etc).
ReplyDeleteI like some of GW's terrain but much of it is too 'busy' for my tastes.
No offense this whole buying fortifications and trucking them around down to gw for a game is ridiculous .
ReplyDeleteFlyers are too big to be conviniently transported too, the whole push at the moment is to encourage people to play at home or in clubs, as it was always supposed to be.
DeleteThey are no longer available in canada either.
ReplyDeleteHOWEVER... GW North America stores are receiving stock of them along with re-release boxes of the gothic sector and the Fortress of redemption. My local store is supposedly getting two imperial defense network boxes. Now if I can find 195$ canadian by saturday morning for their release , I might just camp out.
Would have liked 5 or more of them to fill the table up with it.
ReplyDeleteOn a different topic: I want a HQ that can fire a d6" scatter barrage to simulate a QB throwing a ball, helping a Fast Attack unit score Line Breaker or Troop score objectives with close ordinance barrage support.

@Natfka
ReplyDeleteTake it for what its worth-
I'm an employee at an independent retailer, and the second pictures of these trenches and the mega forces came out, me and some other staff members were pretty keen to buy some bundles with an employee discount on top.
Anyway, GW would only send us 1 box of each (trenches and mega forces), but our GW rep assured us that the wall of martyrs was going to be re-released in smaller boxes, just broken up.
Whether or not this is just the rep trying to satiate a brick and mortar shop, i don't know... but just thought I'd pass it on
GW's email to subscribers introducing the Wall of Martyrs said that the box set was made up of "six all-new kits": "three Imperial Defence Lines", "two Imperial Defence Emplacements", and "one Imperial Bunker". That strongly suggests that the wall will eventually be sold in three individual boxes. That's just as well for me since I mostly want the bunker and maybe one defence emplacement.
ReplyDeleteBesides, the mold for such a large and complex model would be very expensive. GW would be very motivated to sell as many models as possible to maximize the mold's value.
@Natfka:
ReplyDeleteI didn't see if anyone already said this but (checked but I didn't notice it), I saw one of these today and they have (in the back side) pictures of other smaller kits as everyone said. Isn't there any pic of that part of the kit? I didn't take one but I'm getting one bunker as soon as it's available separately
I think this is a decent kit and may choose to get on in the long run. As for all the skulls and corpses, I have a snowy board so it will be easy to cover up. Maybe have a few skulls pertruding from the snow... I felt the greatest problem was simply attacking the beast. Deepstrike is difficult as it is clustered and if you are hitting it with ordinance (which I will) you may risk having an expensive unit cut off, outgunned and being shelled by your own ordinance. Close combat is the best option in my eyes but as you don't want to assualt over cover (i.e over the walls) then you are coralled into inclosed areas minimising close combat. Assualt grenades are a blessing but you find yourself ducking into the trench to defend yourself. Plus vehicles run a-muck as it is pretty large feature. Sorry for moving away from the main point of the disussion but I would like to hear of tactics that work against this. I have achieved only moderate success, normally winning outside the trench but it still poses a huge threat.
