There are going to be some delays regarding White Dwarf magazines in North America in both December and January. Now exactly why January would be delayed is a little beyond me, but such is the news.

No permission to use the sources name was given, so please for those of you that send in information, please include that information with each bit. (as a reminder in case I forget).

  2. I have to wonder if this will delay other bits from across the pond. Like say the new 40k campaign book I just ordered.

  4. Thats odd. Its a british company, and their US offices were not in the area that Sandy affected. I wonder whats causing the hold up?

    1. Maybe Sandy sunk ship with new WD's

    2. I would guess that the printers for the US are in the area affected (There is allot of publishing in and around NY).

    3. Almost all shipping from Europe to the US comes through New York and New Jersey.

  5. Plus the shipping to much of the rest of the world leaves from eastern seaboard ports ehich were rattled around by Sandy. If it's also delayed in Australia/NZ, then it's more likely to be the printers though.

  6. Definitely sounds like an issue with an east coast printer. Sucks, but if these is the biggest inconvenience you suffer from that storm consider yourself lucky.

The announcement of Crusade of Fire might be worth a second look relative to the prior. See the description of the product and the Saturday news announcement. Seems designed to move current releases, which may hint at some things to come in the near future.

"Whether you choose to join the Crusade of Fire itself," = no surprises here, loyalist troops.

"the foul Servants of Ruin" = Chaos, both CSM but also Daemons.

"or the bloodthirsty Prophets of War" = presumably dark eldar.

"low-gravity environments or in bunkers deep below the ground" = wall of martyrs

"to expanded rules for Flyers." = Will we finally be seeing the rumored new wave of flyers?

"It also features rules for playing games in the gladiatorial arenas of Commorragh" = Finally seeing some more of those dark eldar characters?

"as well as for fighting battles on the surface of a Daemon World." = Again, daemons supposedly in early 2013.

"the classic one-on-one, hero-vs-hero challenge where only the strongest (or sneakiest) will survive." = Again, dark eldar special characters?

Anyways, that is all speculation but perhaps some tantalizing food for thought. Seems they must be hoping to move some product with this release.

    1. Personally, I think you're just making something out of nothing GW always plays their cards close to their chest. The description isn't really much of an insight in to the future, if anything, just a look at things that have past, if you ask me.

    2. Yeah, as stated you've got to have the no surprises loyalists, chaos is the obvious enemy (especially with all the updates) and dark eldar are clearly doing well enough with the update that they're now a frontline army for the company

    3. Those dark eldar character links are very tenuous, they mention Commorragh because dark eldar are featured in the book, they mention daemon worlds because it's also full of chaos!

  7. My opinion: the product they are hoping to move with this release is, wait for it...the campaign book!

  8. East coast printer? Heh. Surely they print everything in China, so it would be coming to the US via pacific ports.

    1. no books are usually printed locally not overseas. the largest manufacturer of books in the world is in Quebec. with many manufacturers in US especially in New York. (and yes these are factory locations)

    2. Only codices, army books and rulebooks are printed in China. Magazines are printed in each sales zone.

  9. They have obviously decided to add squats in these issues and are taking their time in doing so.

  10. but will it affect the digital release?

    1. According to a reply on the GW North America facebook page it will NOT affect the release of the digital version (since that is coded in the U.K. anyway).

  11. Shouldn't digital unless they release at the same time for consistency reasons.

  12. I was wondering what they meant by both months being delayed, I actually am thinking this might mean no December white dwarf until the delayed January WD release. My guess is that leaks will come out around normal time though as the delay is probably shipping based.

Decided that I would just pass on the info verbatim and leave my musings out of it, let us all try and figure out what they meant.

  13. Magazines and books tend to be printed in advance of the previous month so December and January were probably in printing order during Hurricane Sandy.

  14. This wasn't exactly a secret, was it? I thought I saw mention of this on the Games Workshop North America facebook page earlier this month...but then again it might have been on one of my friends that still works at GW US HQ?

This only affects the North American release of White Dwarf, not the U.K. or rest of the world.

The reason was, as others have surmised, due to the fact that their printer was in the area that was hit badly by the storm. Their whole printing schedule was setback several weeks and they print much more than White Dwarf.

Since they only have finite machines, personnel and man hours it's going to take awhile for them to get back on track. They estimate about two months, thus delays until January.

    1. Yeah, like I thought it was on the GW NA Facebook page, posted Nov. 12th. Here is the link:

      https://www.facebook.com/gamesworkshopnorthamerica/posts/382408548507005

"Due to recent severe weather conditions in the North East where our White Dwarf distribution facility is, the magazine will be delayed for the next couple issues. We don't have specific information yet, but will post estimates on delivery dates once we learn more. Thank you for your patience."

A few comments down someone asks if this will impact digital releases.

"The electronic version will NOT be affected.

If you have specific questions about your subscription, please call customer service so they can look into it for you! 1-800-394-4263"

So, it will not effect digital releases or other sales zones releases, just North America physical copies.

    2. The White Dwarf daily says it's out on saturday though.

    3. Unfortunately, all English language posts are now made from the U.K. studio, the only thing the U.S. gets to contribute are shop adverts and event pages.

The W.D. Daily is put together by the U.K. WD staff without much input, or consideration really, for their English speaking compatriots on the other side of the pond.

Their message about the WD being released on Saturday is referring to the U.K. English language edition.

If you want information about Games Workshop products and events in North America you are better off 'liking' their facebook page.
