Now this type of a list might be hard to do, but stick with me for a bit, as it sounds like a lot of fun and there are lots of options..... especially you Necron players. Lets get into it.

There are two missions in the new rulebook that I am looking very closely with the new rules..... and those are Big Guns Never Tire, and The Scouring. The reasons for looking at these misions is that they allow for vehicles to control objectives, primarily from the heavy support and fast attack choices. This opens it up for flyers to claim objectives. As of yet, I have not seen anything saying that a flyer in zoom mode cannot control objectives... although I kind of expect it to happen.

Correction On the Article:
Still digging through the rulebook like anyone else, I have figured out where in the rulebook flyers are precluded from claiming objectives under most circumstances.  That is simply because flyers measure distances from their hulls except in the conditions listed in the rulebook. Therefore a flyer will not be able to claim objectives unless the objective sits where it can be within 3"s of the hull!

Until then....
Models flying around in zoom mode can claim objectives when they count as scoring units. With the difficulty of destroying flyers, its time to take a much closer look at what it takes to take control of the skies and claim your victory!

Look closely at the armies that could ally to expand your aerial assault to control to the skies and the gameboard.

Necrons:
Can get flyers in most areas of the FOC, and with the FAQs and the addition of "Invasion Beams" to Night Scythes, necrons are beyond extremly versatile and quick on the battlefield.

Necrons have flyers in almost every FOC slot. The important ones anyways. Heavy support Doom Scythes can claim objectives under the right mission with "Heavy Metal", and Night Scythes can drop claiming troops easily while maintaining their fast movements. This maximizes their effectiveness as an ally and makes them devastating.

Dark Eldar
The Dark Eldar have flyers in the heavy support choice slots. This allows for some extremly fast and mobile flyers to take control of the skies with the chances to grab objectives with "heavy metal"

Imperial Guard
Some of the the most deadly and cost effective flyers come from the imperial guard. Vendettas with their AV12 makes them very tough flyers and they can be taken in squadrons. (very hard to move around this way). Being able to to claim objectives with the "Fast Recon" rule in mission # 4 makes them very valuable. They have the ability to do Grav Shute Insertions as well, and with Storm troopers can be more precise. I have used this ability already with dangerous drops onto the battlefield with good effects.

Stormraven Gunships
Stormravens become very valuable assets when in zoom mode, and the ability to get into hover and assault valuable troops into the enemy. They also have ability to drop in troops from zoom mode with Shadow Skies. That makes these gunships very valuable and dangerous to have flying around, and with "Fast Recon" in missions they can claim objectives.

So take a look at the flyers you have access to (if any, and if you don't I am sure there are more coming), and then look towards your allies and what they can bring to the sky. By looking at where you can get allied flyers in a variety of FOC areas, you can maximize your control of the skies and claiming of objectives.

I know there are more flyers on their way, and I did not include the stormtalon, but they will also be a valuable asset, as they are relatively cheap on points with some great weaponry to control the skies and claim objectives with "fast recon".

Flyers are hard to hit, and great for claiming objectives. Their ability to fly in and leave the tabletop only to come back in through reserves is a very tough combination. When they can score, they can lead to a victory through the claiming of the skies. Its time for War!
