Just thought I would throw down a few ideas on Bastions, specifically to talk about how I am deploying them, and what fits up on those battlements. The video is a bit brief to go into much detail, so if there is interest I will post a more in-depth look at what I have found with these fortifications.

  1. Ive been wondering if codexes will now have unique fortifications in them now alongside the units. Itd be cool. Like a Chaos Shrine thats in the codex that you can purchase as a fortification. As more codexes we would get more terrain reducing the need for WD.

    1. Clearly! It doesn't seem impossible to release a kit or two with each codex.
That'd be awesome if each army could have its specific bastion, rulewise related to its fluff.

    2. They've made it very clear that they plan to do so. I can't wait to see all of the new xeno buildings on the table :)

  2. Where does that music/sound effect come from? I love it. reminds me of Resident Evil.

Also, it's a little bit OT but since this post is kinda about rules, I have a question about 6th rules regarding Characters:

They seem to have lost their ability to be Skilled Rider which they were in 5th.

Of course, Skilled Rider special rule has changed from reroll dangerous terrain tests for the Skilled Rider only to ignore dangerous terrain tests for the skilled rider and his squad.

It is really a strong special rule but now, in my BA or SM codex, I don't have any skilled rider, not even Kor'sarro Khan.

Am I mistaken? Are there codex entries with Skilled rider rules in their profiles?

I used to count on that reroll for my sanguinary priests on bikes. It's a little expensive to crash in the first crater...

    1. Considering how much weaker dangerous terrain tests are now, I don't think you will feel the lack of skilled rider anytime soon. Instead of destroying the squad it only wounds the units only denying cover saves. If your sanguinary priests fail their 3+ armor save and 5+ feel no pain, they probably should have been riding bicycles instead of motorcycles.

    2. The main problem with lack of skilled rider is that the bonus to turbo-boosting cover save won't be received.

Khan is also hit badly by the no assault from reserve for all his outflankers.

    3. They also lost Move Through Cover, too. :(

  3. Making a Tau version of the aegis defence line with shield drones and and clear plastic... even thinking of perhaps heavy gun drones to boot... not sure on that part yet

  4. According to page 114 of the rulebook "You can take a single fortification for each primary detachment" Which makes it kind of hard to deploy two at 2000 points.

    1. Weird. Everyone I know has been pointing to pg. 110 where it references an additional fortification at 2000.

  5. At 2k points you can have 2 foc's and therefore 2 forts. Drawback is you have to take 4 troops and 2 hq.

    1. Imagine grey knights with 4 characters and their unlocked elites as infantry or two Vanilla marines forces with 2 different rules of combat tactics. Thats gonna be so broken by some people.

    2. Its not that broken. I have been diving into dozens of different ideas for how to work fortifications, and its very difficult to break them.

As for 4 characters with unlocked elites, its already quite common. More units often can score than we had in 5th.

    3. You can only have 1 Chapter Tactics in a Space Marine force. They FAQ'd mixing/matching.

  6. Nice, hadn't thought of two at 2000, I had been using my fortress of redemption....but for the same points i'm swapping these two in.
