  3. Wow! Quality update. Credit where its due, GW really has done something right. Daemons got a bit of a bump due to 6th ed changes and allies so they just needed a mini update and GW delivered. Happy for my Daemon + CSM playing friends. Now, about my Nids....

    1. is he speaking two languages?

    2. He's Dutch as far as I can tell. They speak a lot of English so their WD is in English and I imagine they use English codexes etc. Basically he's reading the unit name then commenting in Dutch!

    3. That makes a lot more sense. Thanks for the clarification!

    4. He isn't Dutch. I am Dutch and I can't understand it like you guys.

    5. He is Danish.

    6. Apologies to both the Dutch and the Danish then! Can't say I speak either!

    9. How can the English speakers not understand that? It's all in English, would you like a transcript to go with the video

  5. Not happy with this. At all. Will need to throw out my army list i was working on for Septembers fantasy tournament, and start all over. Thanks GW. Thanks.

    1. This is really why they should announce releases much earlier, you could have saved up more moneys to give GW and been more prepared for your tournament. Everyone would win, now you spend less and are not as prepared as you would have been

      Delete
    2. Little bit on the Emo side there don't you think? Models get updated all the time, go with the flow like the rest of folks do

      Delete
    3. I disagree that it'd be a win-win. The consumer would win, GW would lose. THey maximize profit by taking as much money as they can from you now, and not waiting later. Knowledge is power, especially in the marketplace. They reduce risk by keeping things on the DL while also increasing revenue (by now AND later) and avoiding a bit of inflation. It sucks, but it seems like a profitable business model.

  6. As a CSM player reeling from the pushing back of the CSM codex I had just this morning started to feel a bit more positive as I thought I could at least and at last get my hands on a plastic greater demon... Apparantly not, I am most decidedly not chuffed.

  7. Wait, wait. To get an update to my Chaos Daemons (Not a full update, mind you, like SoB's did), I have to buy a White Dwarf? I'm not sure I like this one bit.

    2. Presumably they haven't changed anything in the codex itself, or at least you can still use everything in the codex as is. Hopefully this is just ADDITIONAL information and units, a la the stormtalon/dakkajet issue. Which is just about what everyone wants for WD anyways, so this is a step in the right direction. If GW releases new rules and models just about every month, I'd be pleased as a peach.

Hell, I might even buy White Dwarf.

    3. Ah crap, looks like I'm pretty wrong.

    4. If its a proper update it will be on the errata in a few months after this wd is out of print

      Delete
    5. SoB did not get a full update (as what I would call a full codex, they have half a codex at best). This at least seems like you sytill have a full codex and it is not over 2 WD issues. Much better deal than SoB got.

  8. I've done my best to take down what's on the video to look at the new rules: http://fromthefang.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/new-chaos-daemons-rules-from-video.html

  9. Also does anyone think that this might be the first of 4 rules updates since they seem to have only done rules for Slaanesh?

Mind you they have done models for the other gods so maybe not!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I hope so! The only problem is that they'd need new plastic kits in the same vein as the Slaaneshi ones, and a lot of people have said the rate at which plastic kits (and primarily their molds) can be produced is a big limiting factor in product releases. Hopefully they can overcome the bottleneck and keep the plastic crack flowing!

      Delete
    2. I was coming to post the same thing, pretty obviously that they only did 1 god's units in this update. Kind of irritating, but whatever, if they do this every month, I'll actually subscribe to White Dwarf.

      Delete
    3. If I had my druthers they would've updated the Fiends models as long as they were doling out some Slaaneshi love.

  10. They posted another English video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EP9QhcKf20k&feature=plcp

You can actually pause it and read the rules now.

    1. So flamers changed a +5 pts for +1 wounds.

Did anyone see what the screamers had? I saw something like range - S5 armour bane? It also had another rule under that.

      Delete
    2. If the paused video says what I think it does Screamers are now the best unit in the entire game.
      http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0eDi9Qx65j8/UA7WcrPs4oI/AAAAAAAAA7A/NK3j8Tq05u8/s1600/Screamers_40k.jpg

If I'm not mistaken they get 4atk on the charge at str5 AP2 with Armourbane. And they are still jetbikes. That is insanely good. These things will pretty much kill any non-flying unit in the game.

      Delete
    3. On the one hand, they no longer have melta-bombs meaning they don't have S8+2d6 vs. vehicles, but that was only against vehicles and only 1 attack each. Now they have all their attacks at S5+2d6. not bad at all.

      Delete
    4. It looks like Flamers cost 12 fewer points now, got another wound, lost bolt, are now 5++ armor save. This amounts to a big boost to that unit.

I'll probably end up taking two units of these guy now since Breath of Chaos glances vehicles on a 4+, which means they just tear up hull points.

  12. The Exalted chariot looks a lot like a kitbash between two regular Chariots. It might be why it's limited print. I'll bet you anything you can make either two regular chariots or one exalted chariot from that kit.

That aside, I'm quite pleased there are new plague bearers & nurglings, easier to build AND paint! But they do look a bit comical from those images; hopefully, when the pictures are on the GW website, I'll get a proper look at them so I can develop a full opinion on them. :)

  14. Fantasy has had far to much this year. Two armybooks is good enough. This was supposed to be the half of 40k now. Sad.....

  15. So, it would appear that the starter set is next month judging from the last image in the WD.
Wouldnt of minded taking a peek in the chaos dex a little earlier than that!

  19. I'm guessing the Starter set comes next then (Dark angels vs Chaos at the last page? Yup xD). The Dark angel psyker looks a lot like the psyker that's in the cover of the new Rulebook, so I'm guessing they're gonna give him some background and such, and the chaos sorcerer looks like Tzeench, so Dark angels vs Thousand sons? Let's see =)

    1. I don't know why they didn't release them in plastic with the other three gods in the original plastic wave :/ Everything in this release looks pretty damn cool, apart from the new nurglings >.> they don't look half as repulsive as they once were

      Delete
  26. Tzeentch stuff looks great, Nurgle might also be okay, but boy, are those Slaaneshi chariots ugly. Now I know that there is no accounting for taste, but these remind me way to much of the overwrought, fiddly nightmare of the Coven Throne / Mortis Engine of fantasy. Mind you, the usage of the current, simply repulsive Daemonettes might be playing a huge part in that.

    ReplyDelete
  27. That inside back cover artwork of the Dark Angel Librarian casting Mind Worm and melting the brain of the Chaos Marine Sorceror is the exact same picture from the current Dark Angels codex.

You can find it on p. 39 of Codex: Dark Angels if you'd like to take a look at it.

There's no telling what this could indicate. Could be starter set info (pretty likely), could merely be a battle report.

    It's not new artwork though.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sooo I hope I am missing a key piece of information. It appears that the new Screamers resemble wraiths only with full power weapons and additional abilities, and that the new Flamers are 2/3 the price of the old ones, for a unit that is quite a lot more powerful than the old one (two wounds???). Flamers were maybe sometimes overshadowed by Bloodcrushers and Fiends before but they really weren't bad....

  29. I'm personally irritated by this. They've been dangling the new chaos codex in front of us for sometime and out of no where plastic daemon kits and new rules? Daemons aren't hurting at all in 6th and ther are plenty of "incomplete" armies running around. Lacking fliers anti aircraft options or just being outdated (chaos included in all 3 catagories)

I like daemons but they didn't need a push to be good. Now they'll end up better than ever most likely and csm will have yet another army with new toys and rules kicking it around the table top.

    1. Out of no where? Didn't the rumors of plastic Plaguebearers start a little before the CSM rumors?

      Delete
    2. Are you serious, Daemons NOT hurting in 6th edition?!
They fall in to all three of those categories you mentioned...

  30. Am I being ridiculously optimistic here, or... is this the end of loooong waits for a new codex? They're releasing new rules which override codex entries- imagine if over the next few months (a release every month...) the Tau, Eldar, Black Templars, and whoever else has been waiting forever get similar treatment. I'm particularly thinking of the Eldar units supposedly sitting in warehouses- maybe we'll see them sooner than we think. Those old armies might get a new lease of life. It could be... beautiful.

Or maybe I'm just dreaming here. 'tis a nice dream, though.

  31. I just noticed something interesting and it might be a new trend for Tzeentch. The Screamers and Flamers both look to have gone back to the regular 5+ invuln save (from Daemon) but now have 2 wounds each. This is breaking from the current mold of Tzeentch being the invuln save God and could instead be making him the extra wound God.

This could mean interesting things for the upcoming CSM codex. Thousand Sons might go back to being 2W (like the 3.5 dex) rather than having the 4+ invuln (like the 4 dex).
