Finally we have some images. Inside we have charts for psychic powers, a first look at the new templates, as well as the collectors editions rule books. Of course I would love to get more of them in English as well, so I could read exactly what is being said, but I am just glad to get them.

A big thanks to Constantine for hooking me up with the pics. I think they originate from pingualoty

  1. Wowy wow. That collectors edition looks yummy. Templates look a bit cheap though.
I'm getting immensely excited now, can't wait to pour over all of it, and read a bit more into the psychic power school cards and chart. WD is a must buy for once :D

    1. Heh, it's true. Everything looks awesome, except for the templates. It looks like a child has scribbled on them with blue/purple felt tip pen.

    2. Looks more 3 dimensional, probably hollow so you can stick spears and stuff up through it. I want it all...damn it.

  3. 440 pages seems indeed to be a lot to carry around...
I understand the need for the satchel.
I wish they would have split the rules/background, necromunda style.

Anyway, even if I still don't like the cover, it seems they did a pretty nice job with the new edition.

Who would go for collector / gamer / regular?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Gamer for me as it is one of my main points and the satchel will help heaps with transporting the book... plus I might use it for something else every now and then

      Delete
    2. The problem with the gamer is that its $50 more than the standard. If it were 30 more at around 100 ok bur 120? Hmmm mite as well pay the extra 10 for the collecters. Hmmm what to do. Another thing to consider is eventually a pdf will be available so if i can get it on my phone it will be easier to transport. But im not sure...

      Delete
    3. I'm a sucker for collectors editions as they look cool in a bookcase (a glass fronted bookcase), but I'd have to go for the gamers edition as well.

Of course, the starter set will also be a must buy for the lightweight rulebook.

I'm of to sell a small European country to raise the funds.

      Delete
    4. I'm waiting for the starter box's little rule book. In the past I've not enjoyed having to carry a huge FW book the shop every week when using my vraks army (prior to the PDF update). So I can't see myself wanting to do that again with the new rulebook.

  4. The collecters edition looks nice. I like the munitorum tape measurer. The necron lords look ok...

This is looking more & more like marine hammer all the time, I thought 6th ed was supposed to be the rise of the Xenos?

    4. Agreed, and the fact that Tzeentch Daemons don't have any powers, and Tzeench CSM don't have access to all of the disciplines really bugs me.

      Delete
    5. Agreed. Grey Knights, Eldar, CSM, Daemons are all weaker than they should be. Unless some really good reason is given, I'll be changing that rule in my games.

      Delete
    6. Might be to do with the background of the army, and really, we don't know for certain what the powers do yet. And Deamons don't need psycic powers, they are better of with gifts that can't perils and only have one thing in the game that negates them. Do you think a deamon player would want all there fun gifts getting negated by any unit they target?

      Delete
  9. There are 5 psychic lores.

Blood Angels and Grey Knights get four.

    Eldar get 2.

    3. Again: - They might get their own powers in their new codex

      Delete
    4. More variety doesn't always mean more powerful.

Look to WHFB. Some armies have a lot of weak mages, whilst some have a few powerful ones. Plus, I expect each psyker race to have at least one specialist power list in their respective codex.

    5. I just hope GW doesn't screw up my Runes of Warding...

      Delete
    6. Orks got none, and they are the most powerful psykers in the Ooniverse!

      Delete
  12. I do hate it when game mechanics don't fit the fluff. The eldar should have access to all of them, they are the master psykers after all.

Also, what is this obsession with giving crypteks tails? Urgh, when I get orikan, that's being snipped! Anrakyr looks like a female, or he's wearing a kilt lol

The mearuring tape is meh, not as impressive as I imagined, the dice are cool though.

    ReplyDelete
  13. That servoskull well (re)painted woud look very cool :DD

    ReplyDelete
  14. somewhere in GW HQ.... "HEY GUYS! Why dont we make a big deal over a mechanic that 1/2 of the armies have zero access to! that will be a great way to balance the game by forcing everyone to play spees mahreens!" 7th edition will just remove all the xenos and guardsmen and 8th will leave only vanilla mahreens and grey knights.

    1. Seems like they try to balance some of the non-psychic armies with their own Bonus exclusive skills though. It's definitely far from ideal, but getting huge boosts to gauss and Rapid Fire weapons gives my Necrons enough that I'm not worried. A Gloom Prism Spdyer may be a necessity now though

      Delete
  15. Orks not getting powers is a bit crappy since they do have psykers, its not like dark eldar and necrons that dont at all so can see why they might not, is a bit unfair.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. But they aren't Psykers....

The old ones never gifted them with that power instead they instilled them with the Gestalt field. Weird boys control the Raw power of the Waagh, not energy like a traditional Psyker.

      Delete
  16. I did hear a suggestion somewhere that the psychic powers identified in the rulebook were in addition to those in the codex for the individual race, which might explain the lack of choices for the eldar.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. exactly, and it might be so that marines get 4 types of magics but must choose say 1 card by dice, while eldar gets 2 types of magic but can choose say 3 cards from which they roll dice or something

I dont think eldar will be over-magic:ed by marines

      Delete
    2. Eh how does that explain it ? Marines have a full page of up to date edition relevant powers. Now they get 4 more types to choose from,.no doubt they are hideous. Eldar have to struggle on with their old powers and a truncated selection of the new ones. Just what I have come to expect. Welcome to marine edition.....

      Delete
    3. just because marines get more diciplines doesnt make them get more magic powers

eldar will probably have more cards or ability to choose from cards with less randomness or something

GW has just given eldar 2 diciplines since its the diciplines that follows fluff, they have not given eldar 2 magic spells and marines 4 spells

      Delete
    4. Can't cast 2 powers, can't cast 22 powers, who cares once you remember those damned runes LOL

      Delete
    5. You're still implying that Eldar are less psychically attuned than SMs.

      That makes no sense.

      Delete
    6. Im saying eldar is more specialized, makes sence fluffwise

      Delete
    7. The eldar path system prevents warlocks and farseers from arbitrarily picking up spells from different schools of thought. Although they could start shooting flames out of their hands if they wanted to learn it is unethical for them to be so impulsive.

      Delete
  17. So the Imperium gets a total of 22 powers, while all the other armies in the 40k universe added together get a grand total of 8. 5/8 out of all non-IoM do not get any Psychic powers at all, versus only 2/8 Imperial armies. And the most psychic race in the universe has half the number of psychic disciplines than your standard Marine army.

No wonder the 6th rulebook features a Space Marine on the cover. You'd think GW would get over their SM fetish eventually. You'd be wrong, apparently.

  21. Well. Look at the schools eldar don't get. I can't see the eldar using pyromancy (too chaotic I'd assume. Don't wanna get nommed by Slaanesh)

and biomancy doesn't seem like something the "oh so perfect" craftworld eldar would bother with. I am a bit surprised they don't get telekinesis though.

But I'm fairly certain they'll have a special Craftworld Eldar psychic school that'll be in their codex. But who cares I play Tau so I can ignore all this :D

It seems to me that unless you have a close combat army don't bother playing. with their new charges and counter charges :( I hope the necrons get some physic defence in the main book that is not a pointless 6+

    3. with Tesla you get 3 hits at 6s, including Overwatch shooting. No need for psychic powers. Good enough?

      Delete
    4. I agree. Necron not getting psychic powers is fine since crypteks essentially have psychic powers that can't fail, but usually what necrons lack they have a solid defence against. Example, in BFG necrons have no ordnance, but are also almost completely invulnerable to it. I hope we get some kind of psychic abomination rule like the old pariahs.

      Delete
  26. My Spanish is almost nonexistant, but unless it means a foul curse, Mat Ward was mentioned in regards to the psychic powers on the WD page. If he indeed designed them, then any non-Imperial armies get to take a broom up the rear and prepare for an edition of Librarian shooting range targetry.
The templates aren't half as cool as the FB ones, but I am biased to love the 4th ed versions with Flames!

Other than that, awesome! The dice look cool. The servo skull, though cheap, looks awesome/funny. The changes to the rules are actually meaningful, rather than 3-5 changes which I had trouble following because the rules remained so similar.

I believe that if GW pulls this edition off well, it might just reclaim its throne, but if the codex support gets screwed up by bias and unbalanced dexes, then it's all down hill for GW from there...

  28. The reaction to the number of Psychic 'Schools' available to each race is pretty cursory thinking.

What matters is the number of actual skills the Psyker can take into battle, and how powerful the psyker is.

If you have a copy of WHFB (or just look at the GW store's copy), you'll see what I mean.

  30. For those who don't feel like squinting at the Collectors edition description (sad that the box is leather, no collectors edition for me):

When the officers of the Imperial Guard pray to the Emperor for salvation, it is for the intervention of his Angels of Death that they beseech him. The Warhammer 40,000 Collectors Edition represents a sacred artefact, a reliquary of the Space Marines over which they invoke the Emperor's divine blessilng. Its leatherette exterior features a debossed design of an Iron Halo and Imperial Aquila. Two panels open either side to reveal for gold ___ embossed arched faces, within which are depicted four great heroes of the Space Marines. A secret panel pops open at the otp of the reliquary, revealing access to a premium edition of the Warhammer 40000 rulebook. The pages of this hardback rulebook are made from the very highest quality parchment paper, making it an even greater tome to possess. The Warhammer 40,000 Collectors' edition is strictly limited to 4000 individually numbered copies worldwide, so don't miss out on the great opportunity to own a genuine artifact from the 41st milenium.

    2. And while I'm at it, the Gamer's Edition description:

The Warhammer 40,000 Gamers' Edition represents a Munitorium Officer's kit as if it came straight out of the 41st Millennium. The Gamers' Edition bundle consists of a versatile brown leatherette signal satchel, a Warhammer 40,000 rulebook and a limited edition set of 12 red Munitorium Dice that are only available with this set and come with a lasgun power pack tin. The satchel is large enough to carry the rulebook along with any accompanying Codexes and Munitorium Templates, but also features three internal pouches, each designed to fit a lasgun power pack tin. Two 4mm thick metal pin badges are also included (one representing the Imperial Aquila and the other the eight-pointed chaos star), one of which can be fitted above the satchel's wooden toggle so that you may proudly declare your allegiance for or against the Emperor. The Warhammer 40,000 Gamer's edition is only available from the website and in strictly limited numbers, so don't miss out.

  35. Oh look another SM edition. Seriously WTH. Yes I know SM are their top selling product every month bar 1 so far in recent years... but don't they realise that by not encouraging diversity it will eventually narrow and kill the game as people will only play 1 thing and it will get boring real fast.

Lpore wise, SM and imperial forces in general should have the most restrictions on sanctioned psychic powers. They fear them and the corruption that goes with them so it should be more restricted.

They seriously need to get another team of developers in GW that actually play Xenos, preferably ones that are over the SM thing so things can be brought back into balance.

Seriously marines are the most boring unimaginative army in the game.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Why so much ranting about certain races only have such and such powers, or no powers? They have just turned psycic powers into fantasy magic. So, there is a chance you mage will get some terrible powers that don't help. And psykers don't get every single spell in the school. They get some. And now, at least you can always stop powers, and Marines and stuff having all of the schools... Do you remember who currently owns most of the galaxy? The imperium. So they have Billions upon billions of psykers to choose from. I can understand that there is a lot of imperium bias. But really, this is a preview of the book, not the book itself. Judge it when you play it.
