Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Space Marines $50
Death to the False Emperor!

Chaos Space Marines are corrupt and treacherous super-warriors hell-bent on tearing apart the Imperium. Though they once strode the galaxy as noble defenders of Mankind, a lifetime of unremitting war has driven them to worship the gods of Chaos. These fell deities have rewarded them with arcane powers, daemonic war marines and hellish weaponry with which to slaughter the armies of the Emperor.

Codex: Chaos Space Marines is the first hardback Warhammer 40,000 Codex. This high quality tome contains 104 full-colour pages, and is bound within a cover that features dynamic artwork.

The Codex contains information on how the Chaos Space Marines came to be the bane of their loyalist brethren, from the origins of the Horus Heresy, through to the Black Crusades and the Crimson Path. It also includes a description of, and rules for, the battle-hungry forces of the Chaos Space Marines, including a gatefold reference page. In addition to the jaw-dropping artwork within, there is a stunning showcase of the range of miniatures, presenting the colour schemes and iconography of the Traitor Legions and their Renegade allies.

Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Space Marines - Limited Edition $83
This edition of Codex: Chaos Space Marines is the first limited edition Codex that Games Workshop has ever produced. It is a collectors' item of the highest quality and a must-have for any Warhammer 40,000 collector.

The limited edition displays a unique blood-splattered, graphic rendering of the cover art to the standard edition of Codex: Chas Space Marine. With bright silver edging to the pages, and a ribbon book marker, and wrapped containing a numbered letter, the limited edition is truly an artefact that would please the Dark Gods themselves.

As per the standard edition, it contains 104 full-colour pages, rich with background information. Within it are details on how the Chaos Space Marines came to be the bane of their loyalist brethren, from the origins of the Horus Heresy, through to the Black Crusades and the Crimson Path.

This lavish edition of Codex: Chaos Space Marines is limited to just 1,000 copies

    1. I'm considering buying digital version of codex, but saw no announcement. Does any one know when digital CSM codex will be available?

      Delete
    2. But the Blood effects!!!!

      Delete
    3. Maybe if it came with a limited edition model or something. If I want blood effects that bad, I'll just spatter the cover with some red ink and call it good.

      Delete
    4. Though, book 666 of 1000 sold on Ebay would probably finance all the new models for you...

      Delete
    5. I am quite sure the holy number of the Grey Knights, is a no go zone for chaos :)

      Delete
    6. Shean, I asked the same question from GW. Their answer was, " The digital codex is going to be available on the Saturday that the hardback copy of the Chaos Codex comes out."

  2. Notice plague knives confirmed? Or is that old news?

  3. So is there anything different at all in the codex other than the cover, lined pages, and a certificate? Cause lately I have been all about snatching up their limited edition stuff- but if there is nothing special in there ( like an extra awesome story, or heck even an awesome poster) than there is no way I'm going to spend extra for it. I treat my codexes very well- but they still get worn a little from me thumbing through them and bringing them to gaming and whatnot. Why would a limited edition of this be worth it except to the way die hards?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. For extra £20 you'll become a certified Champion of Chaos - after that you may roll on Chaos Boon table after killing your opponent, I guess 8D

      Delete
    2. If not, the extra 20 on top could be for the fact its the first ever limited ed of a codex. Still not die hard enough for me though. I'll be putting the extra 20 towards forge/mauler fiend. With all extra bits you get with it for conversion work, Its a must!

      Delete
    3. It says the heads and arms are swappable! Increasing trend with GW?

      Delete
    4. Except that extra 20 you spend will net you 125 more on eBay a week later when they are all sold out. Have a look at the man-purse from the "Gamer Edition" of the rulebook. Just saying...

      Delete
    5. Then GW should have made up a thousand Chaos Marine fanny packs to go with these codexes. That would get the ball rolling.

      Delete
  4. The limited cover is sweeet :0

  5. Am I the only one who doesn't like the hardback idea? I'd much rather it be paper back and $33, then hardback and $50.

    1. I hope for digital copy to be released soon, tbh.

      Delete
    2. Ya I liked paperbacks. I took them to Staples, had them chop off the binding and add a spiral binding to it, laminated the cover as well. My mini rulebooks and my Codex, worked better than ever, were more durable, and were easier to read with the spiral binding.

      Delete
    3. I'm not too keen on the hardback either. I need to bend my codex to fit in my army case slightly right now, so with the hardback I guess I have to carry it sepretly.

The price doesn't upset me too much, seeing as D&D books can cost 40-60 bucks too, and this book will be getting much more use than "Oriental Adventures" ever did.

      Delete
    4. I also much prefer paperbacks, easier to flip through and one would match the current books on my shelves, I'm a fan of tidy :P

On another note: In 1991 GW released 'Ere We Go a HARDBACK Orc Dex, maybe they forgot...

  6. Rumors were true. DG, Noise marines, rubric and the rest are all elites now. Must mean specific HQ unlock them.

  7. I wonder if there will be any fluff in the book for the Blood Gorgons. Considering they are on the cover and all.

    1. That book was awful awful awful. Amazing cover art, love it but oh god if there was a magic button to remove blood gorgans from existence forever, that would be one pressed button.

  8. Nope, as much as I love my emperor childen. I am only getting the standard ed. Over 50 WAY to rich for me.. and the wife will throw me out.. nah, but I will wish she did, if I spend more then 50...

    1. Well, taking into account their nature, GW could release 11010101010 copies of Limited hardback edition. With oil splash on the cover and numbered punched card inside. Profit!

      Delete
    2. Yeah, in 10years when it's again the last codec released for 8th edition but with it being written fr 9th

Seriously, this pissed me right off as a necron player

  10. Not gonna lie - that book looks pretty effing spectacular. Is this the same company that produced such treasures as the Imperial Guard and Blood Angels covers?

I thought there would be nothing they could do to make a codex worth 50 bucks but I'll be damned if they haven't made the codex look like a Fantasy Flight RPG expansion.

  11. I don't get my WD till tomorrow. FLGS says he doesn't have info to take preorders yet. The GW blog even said we would see the stuff tomorrow.

Anyone else butthurt? Preempted the new WD before it even released, what a joke.

  12. I know this isn't completely related, but, have you guys seen the 360º dragon photo? (if it's up in your respective countries) The model's pretty sweet and all but... he's got a massive butthole! What the hell!?

    1. $145 Canadian. And Canadian and US are within 2 cents of each other (either way, it depends on the day.)
I'll wager the Oz price is upwards of $200

      Delete
    2. $185, same as the ten times more awesome limited edition Dark Vengeance.

      Delete
    3. Yes and it's a horrible battle force also. The last BF gave you bezerkers and more chaos CSM's, I would take that over 3 bikes for less price any day.

      Delete
    4. The dofference between the currency isn't the issue, Canadian whiners. It's the fact that the US has a plant (Memphis), the major UPS hub right next door (Louisville), and doesn't have therefore doesn't levy a bunch import/export/parcel taxes. That, and the product will sell 100x better in the US where there are 100x more gamers.

If you people knew how to see the big picture and do a little research, you'd stop your whining in a freaking hurry.

      Delete
    5. I like that bikes are in it. The Possessed however.... they are more of an acquired taste. Not something you really want in a BF. GW probably had to find a way to move all the sprues out of the warehouses.

      Delete
  15. The "one clikc launch bundle" isn't limited time? Interesting choice by GW there, cool hoice though. Not for me of course, I'd pay half that by going online personally!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There's no benefit to getting it other than the time you save in clicking 'add to card'. No discount, no special features, just those plastic products and codex all in one click. We'll probably see more of this kind of stuff with future releases. Anything to drive sales.

GW figures that a lot of people are going to buy all the new kits, so they'll just release a one-click option to speed up the process, which reduces server expense and speeds up the parcel distribution process as well.

      Delete
    2. the only purpose for it is to reduce the waiting time at the terminal in your local hobby store.

  16. Didn't realize Cypher was in it. His model's in the HQ section!

    Replies
    1. He was in the collectibles section before right? I wonder if this means the rumor about being able to take DA (fallen) as allies is right?

      Delete
    2. I'm not sure where he was before but if he wasn't in the codex GW would have listed his model as "Chaos Hero with Plasma Pistol" or something equally banal.

      Very exciting!

      Delete
    3. He has been there for ever. At least on the german page and he was named cypher all the time.
Didnt buy him though - no rules.

      Delete
    4. Cypher has always been in the Chaos HQ section. This is nothing new. Don't expect anything out of it. They kept the Iron Warriors Warsmith in the HQ section instead of moving it to the collectibles, yet only now can you use him as MAYBE a Warp Smith.

    2. I feel like we get this Au sob story in every post....

YOUR PRICES ARE HIGH WE GET IT!

      Delete
    3. They have the right to whine in any post. When they get charged that amount they have more than earned it. Its bad enough in Canada that they mark things up, for no logical reason.

      Delete
    4. If they didn't have the worst inflation on planet earth, a minimum wage of over $15, a terribly unsupportive community, huge import/export and exchange rates, and no ability to support a standing store, GW would have a reason to believe they could make a profit there.

No business worth it's salt prices the same across the board when they have no hope of a great return in some places. When a company is massive like Microsoft or Apple, sure. But GW is a niche company that will never justify losses in one place for a gain in another.

      Delete
    5. If you're debating that Australia's finances are in repute, then you'd best hope you're not an American.

      Delete
    6. Australia's inflation rate is actually one of the best in the world. Well behind USA & UK, and on par with Canada.

      Delete
    7. That book looks beautiful, but we all can agree $50 (American) let alone what Canada and Australia are paying is atrocious.

      Delete
    8. Australia's in fairly good economic state, including exchange rates, being roughly on par with the US dollar.
Anyways, there's some pretty exciting stuff, although I'll be waiting for DA and I'll be going online to get my stuff.

      Delete
    9. Yep. One American dollar is equal to .95 of an Australian dollar. American dollar is equal to .97 of a Canadian dollar. Our English-speaking cousins aren't blowing a lot of hot air.

But that's just exchange rate. There are a lot of other factors that GW puts into their pricing, including shipping costs across oceans and continents from different factories. Until Australia gets their own GW factory, don't expect things to change. This is just simply an expensive hobby.

However, I'd love a minimum wage of 15 dollars here in the US. 7.50 is kinda shameful.

      Delete
    10. Let's be honest, would GW reeeeally drop their prices if they could produce models here?! :P

      Delete
    11. Minimum wage here in Australia is more like $10.75 per hour. Most people on minimum wage are lucky to clear $600 a week after tax. Then lets add to that the average rent here $400 per week which doesn't leave much to feed, clothe or pay utilities. then way that up against the cost of this hobby. Luck I run my own business.

      Delete
    12. Also there are quite a few GW stores and independent retailers here in Australia. My home town (population 65000) had 2 independents. Now I live in Brisbane and there are more than I have been able to find, both GW stores and independents. If I could buy the GW stuff at the prices that any other country paid then I would have soooo many more models (probably at least twice as many) and wouldn't need to buy online

      Delete
    13. This is a bit of a trickle effect where GW miss the true sales that they would have actually in Australia and if the prices here were more on pr and not gouged then there would be more GW stores and more independent retailers and give a higher chance of a GW factory here that could supply to not only Australia but also New Zealand and Southern Asia which would save GW a hell of alot of shipping costs to this part of the world.

      Delete
  18. Also did anyone else notice that entire bundle thing for $240? The one click launch bundle?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, but there's no price reduction for it. It just makes it easier to spend the exact same amount of money. What a stupid move on GW's part. Even a discount of 5 dollars would have made me consider it, honestly.

      Delete
    2. *shrugs* Why should they? It's not like all of those kits are in one box, which would save on packaging. GW is actually spending *more* money at the start to create the infrastructure and planning needed to implement a bundle package to insure that little to no product is left out of the ordered bundles. The bonus of a battleforce is that it's all in one box, which saves on pricey cardboard.

      Delete
    3. True, but I still think that a hair more forethought could have made that actually tempting to purchase. Why not put it all in one box? Call it a limited time Army Starter box or some such nonsense. As it is, what's the point? You don't get a discount, you just save a grand total of 30 seconds worth of clicking. Kinda sad.

      Delete
  19. Just pre-ordered my regular copy of the codex and the forgefiend/maulerfiend. Enough for now. Need to read the codex thoroughly. Then debate on what to add. Oh well, I am definitely getting Typhus and run a Nurgle Demon Prince in games without Typhus. My 28 Plague Marines with their 20 Plaguebearers will not go to waste as elite choices. Time to convert Sanguinary Guard into Dark Apostles.

    2. Get it all in 1 go and save your finger the pain of all that extra clicking!
We here at GW like to take care of our customers.. as long as you are paying through the teeth for it!

      Delete
    3. Actually, in europe you save 2€ in the bundle somehow. But I think I can save about 10€ by buying them one by one at my local hobby store. Long time buyer benefits :D

      Delete
    4. Maybe 10% off the total if you buy one of everything? Just a special they could run for preorders...

      Delete
    5. I can save 15% at my local FLGS with a special stamp card that I've saved up. That Codex and Heldrake won't be so bank-killing for me...

  21. A lot of the poses are pretty static/subdude on the new stuff. I like the aspiring champion and the dark apostle but the rest are just okay. If you describe the maulerfiend as as "thundering toward the enemy" there should be a better sculpt. He's just kinda lazily swiping with his claw...even the heldrake is weird looking to me - and not in a good chaotic type way. I had such high hopes because of the DV set maybe I'm being unfair. There's a lot of finecast too, what happened to all the plastic? Plastic for the plastic God!!!

  22. Very irritated with the site pricing. A half metal box of 8 thousand sons and an aspiring sorcerer was 47 us. Now its a 20 dollar upgrade pack with a sorcerer and 8 sets of shoulder pads, heads, torso. So, you will have to buy a 38$ csm box AND the 20$ pack (58$ total ) to create the more expensive (for gw) 47$ sons squad. What a clever way to milk another 10 bucks off your customers. I think I've had enough corporate greed thank you very much. I think its time to sell and jump off this money trap.

I'm super psyched to receive my codex, the little previews that I've been seeing really made this week a glorious day to be chaos. My death guard army will be setting other armies guns on fire, and then butchering them with ease.
