  1. Very nice. But what gun is in the heldrakes mouth? Looks lile a lascannon to me.

    1. its not a lascannon because when they did a close up from the side yo could see it had a rotating barrel

    2. Hades autocannon, same as the Forge Fiend. It can be upgraded to a S6 AP3 Soulblaze flamer weapon. That appears to be the extent of the model's firepower.

  2. After seeing these new models, I am giddy with excitment over what is coming out on the 20th. The obvious things would be the Hellbrute and Cultists, but what else is in store? As long as it follows this aesthetic, I'm going to just throw money at GW!

  3. Will forever hate the space dragon. The dino daemons are growing on me however.

    1. Indeed. The one I really can't work out is the Aspiring Champion. £12 for a single plastic model? That's more expensive than finecast models like the Apostle. How does that make sense?

    2. Prices for all decent miniatures - no matter the game - are too high. They always will be. It's a niche market in a struggling economy.

Those clunky, comically stupid looking Colossals from PP are $130 a pop and you're claiming these are too expensive? Don't even start with the chicken-legged, football pad wearing jacks.

      Delete
    3. Yeah, but I'm not comparing to anything else. Just look at Aspiring Champion (plastic) compared to, for example, Dark Apostle (finecast). Why on earth is the plastic mini more expensive?

    4. Oh sorry, thought you were replying to me, but you were actually replying to the first post.

But really, I think GW have gone too high. The new Mauler/Forgefiend costs only £5 less than the (much more impressive) Forgeworld Blood Slaughterer.

    5. Although, you can't get forgeworld 20% off. I do think its crazy prices are starting to make forgeworld look reasonable, see also: finecast apothecaries of medicore sculpts vs forgeworld apoth 2 pack.

    6. Forge world renegade psykers, any of their character models, and even some of their Terminators and tanks now seem decent value, not to mention their smaller masterclass and Apocalypse books, which are now cheaper than the CSM codex and have more pages.
BTW, anyone else notice that there are no FW upgrade kits for Thousand Sons and Noise Marines, and GW now have Finecast upgrade kits for them? I think GW might have had a hand in this...

    7. Of course GW had a hand in it...they are the same company! Have been for years

  6. If I roll with a slaughterfiend i'll be converting the head for something else.

  7. Is this cartoon-like crap what I've been waiting 5 years for!? The close combat Obliterators are dire, the Warpsmith a mass of confusing detail, the Dark Apostle a sad joke that lacks any of the menace described in the fiction. The Aspiring Champion is armed with a cc weapon that will make him initiative 1 and I'm completely underwhelmed by the Sorcerer.

The Helldrake is ok but would seem more at home in fantasy rather than 40k. The Forgefiend is quite impressive but by far it is the Raptors that are the best new kit. I hope the sprues contain the wealth of bits we've come to expect from GW but based on the rip off of the cult troops, (they're not even finecast for goodness sake!) I doubt it. And who is going to buy that awful, outdated battle force!? I very much hope that GW has a decent 2nd wave release planned that will include re-sculpted cult troops.

In short, to much reliance on horns, leering demonic face, "warp stress" and general gribbly-ness. You shouldn't have to rely on silly, cartoon-like design - less is more.

The only good thing about this is that I can spend my money on a HH army. As time goes on, FW stuff seems more like wargaming for grown ups. Damn! GW will still get my money either way!

    1. I share your disappointment, the good site to be is new codex, I still expect it to be awesome. And... there is a rumor that FW will release Chaosified version of Astartes and even Dark Mechanicum. Hope it'll be true.

    2. It just seems like GW are verging on cartoon-like with the models, as they have always been, in a way, yet the story behind them is darker with each new book. The design of the models no longer matches the dark, terrifying fiction that we now see.
Forgeworld, by comparison, makes the models as dark and creepy as they want, so that all their products mesh together fluidly, especially with their renegades and chaos line, and with their new Angron model. Can you imagine Games Workshop sculpting something like the Nurgle Greater Demon that Forgeworld make?

    3. I have to disagree, this is what i was waiting for, these warriors look like they have been lost in the warp for 10,000 years

  8. Great Lord(s).......unbelievable how Detailed these Modells are!!!!! THX GW!!!

  9. Anyone else notice the words in the end? Digital version available.

  10. The Raptors/Storm Talons box seems far better in the 360 view than in the initial grainy shots. Very impressed with those.

The big monsters are as we've come to expect from GW: unequaled by any other miniatures company.

A little sad that most characters just seem to be facing a Finecast port. I had thought there was a rumor about Mr. Abaddon FINALLY getting an update that brings him more in line with the scope, scale, and detail of current Terminators.

  11. The only model that dissapoints me is the heldrake, it's not that it's too bad (although not a fan of the permanent lattice and stumpy back end) but I was really hoping for more options.
Assorted fiends... I get what games-workshop tries to do with demon engines, there are elements similar to the Kraken (from dreadfleet) but my problem with these are they don't look like machines built as creatures, they're just monsters in armour plates with added pistons. The kraken model was a definite machine first and demon second. If I was gonna make a scale of too machine-good-too demon it'd probably be something like this :P
    - Defiler, blight drones = too machine
    - decimator, jugganaut, kraken, fw khorne engines = the right balance
    - helbrute = a bit too fleshy (although not technically a demon engine)
    - soulgrinder, fiends = too organic (which is fair enough for the soulgrinder)
I've left off the heldrake because it might grow on me, but stumpy pigeon legs and that tail... Meh

    1. Did you notice the upgrade kits on the GW Advance Order section...

      Delete
    2. Yeah, you have to get the normal Chaos Space Marine boxes and then the upgrade kits. Sneaky I says.

I hope the Plaguemarines don't get this treatment. I just don't see how they could fit that way.

      Delete
    3. The reason that Khorne Berserkers and Plague Marines didn't get the upgrade treatment is because there's already a plastic/finecast (respectively) kit for those units. My guess is that they will eventually release the Sons and Noise Marines in their own plastic kits.

  13. Not too shabby over all. Raptors and Warp Talons will be bought en mass for me I'm afraid. Lots of standard troop conversions I see on them already. Hoping for a solid box w/ decent options for bits.

  14. Ou. This is sad. Champions looks good but the monsters?! Especially the dragon.. btw anyone knows when the second half of that dragon will be released (tail etc.)?

    1. I don't agree about the Heldrake, the design seems more like a chaos ship that has been imbued with a daemon, imagine something a step bigger than the Hell Talon:

      http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Chaos/CHAOS_VEHICLES_AND_ACCESSORIES/_HELL-TALON-CHAOS-FIGHTER-BOMBER.html

While the dragon lives in the ship, the ship remains, thus no real body to speak of and no tail.

    2. Helltalon is nice model. Helldrake is ugly. And the model should be nice at first place. Beside this I can´t see any similarities except shape of their wings. Its more flying mosntrum then chaos ship to me. Worst of all, thanks to the new models my friend decided to left hobby after more than 10 years :-(

  17. Anyone else think it's odd that the giant slaughter fiends and his buddy are only AV12? Oh no a giant scary monster! Oh wait it just exploded to a single AC hit never mind. Still regardless of how pathetically vulnerable they are looking the pt price seems right for the one with the 8 str8 shots. Useless for fighting MeQ but would mulch 75% of the most vehicles in a single volley.

    1. It allways find amusing when someone says "only AV12". Defiler has 12 too and so dreadnaught and they are both perfectly playable. 12 is enough. Perhaps just power armor army players are little bit spoiled :-D
