We have the first confirmation that the Chaos Marine codex is indeed going to go live for pre-orders on September 22nd. The source is from a very reliable source I have been staying in contact with, and the date is confirmed. I am sure we are bound to get details, as more unfolds.......

This puts our first 6th edition codex right around the corner. This is going to be an exciting couple weeks.

Looking forward to that codex but concerned I will need a total rethink. The missus is going to kick crap outa me when I get the wallet out again.

  9. With all the hype this codex WILL cause i think a 2 week pre-order window is sufficient. Gives GW time to make sure that all the new releases will be in stores on release day and for people who dont follow rumours it gives them more time to save up if they want the stuff on release day.

...well i want at least 1 of each of the new kits so with the codex that will probably be in excess of £200...

i think i can "just" about afford that.

  10. Wouldn't have been the slightest bit interested if it wasn't for the excellent models in the Dark Vengenance Box.

I've always liked Chaos in the Fantasy Setting, but Marines with spiky bits never appealed. However, the Chosen in the starter set are fantastic, but it's the Cultists which really interest me.

  12. I thank you as well Natfka for providing us rumours from all over the globe.

Finally after 4 years of torment with the current dex, Chaos shines once more.

At the pre-order I will be ready to get myself ALOT of the tasty models. On the release day I will storm the local GW store to get my goods and afterwards carrying all those boxes to my house.

Before that... in preparation......YES, IT'S TIME TO SELL MY KIDNEYS!

    1. Like you, I will also be shutting myself away from the world for a few hours once I get home with my treasures.

    2. I will be having to wait a little bit longer as my purchases will be from overseas.

While I like to support my local GW store when I can, I'd rather stretch my pennies when it comes to purchasing mini's.

If purchase online for the U.S. I can save about 30 - 40% on the cost of mini's (including shipping).

To be honest I'm not a big fan of doning this but if GW want to keep the cost disparity then they will continue to lose sales in the country I come from.

      Delete
    3. Yes, I understand. I also order mini's online which can save me alot.

Some months ago when rumours were spreading about the release of CSM I started saving money. While August and September were kind of disappointing, it actually added the amount to my total savings. Now I have like ~€500 - 600 to spend. At least I'm going to get the Codex and a few boxes (killing time and finishing it before the next batch), while ordering the rest online.

    4. I caved in and recently purchased a 500pt Tzeentch allied Daemon contingent.

I am quite happily painting them, and recently participated in a 1000pt local tournament for fun and to get used to the 6th ed rules.

Actually found the current codex to be competative but wasn't able to quite win a game. Couldn't stretch the points enough and would run out of bodies in the last turn.

I'm only after new kits for filling in the holes I currently have in my collection.

I have $500 AUD from my Tax refund that I have set aside to spend.

      Delete
    5. That's a quite nice amount to spend. I'm sure it's worth after these years of waiting.

Now I know why you are ordering your stuff online. As far as I know GW products tend to be (outrageously) overpriced in Australia.

Tzeentch Daemon allies are quite nice.. They can pack alot of firepower... maybe too much from my experience. Well with the new codex I think you can easilly pull off accurate DS with Daemons using cheap squads of Cultists w/ icons

      Delete
    6. Ow btw, when you mentioned you said saving about 30 - 40% on mini's, I had a feeling you'd be from Australia.

      Delete
    7. As I wrote above can save 30 - 40% (depending on who I order through on-line).

If there was no internet I would happily pay the AUD prices due to no choice. But with the advent of the internet, the choice is availible for cheaper mini's.

Does this promote the development of the hobby, not as much (GW still get there money, but through the U.S. store). So this will affect the profit margin for Australia.

But if GW want to to bring sales back to Australia they need to address the price disparity, and NOT by trying to stop re-sellers selling to that country.

Can be quite a few extra mini's.

    8. ^ ditto mate, don't go through my local GW either.

  13. Hehehe... The time has come, my friends. Finally I shall kick the proverbial **** out of your stupid Matt Ward codices, because Phil Kelly has written the new Chaos Codex, and it will be more powerful than you could possibly imagine.
Well, if all goes well, CSM players might actually start winning the odd game against Grey Knights. Now I have two and a half weeks to gather up all of the necessary money to buy the shiny new models and books.

Damn, I just realised I'll have to choose between Forge World and Games Workshop. I don't have enough money for both. :( Unless they release a model for Angron, or the Maulers and Raptors look terrible, I think I might have to stick with Games Workshop.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Well said.

I don't really give a damn about new minis. I just want a new book.

100% ok with using the same minis I have had for up to 10 years.

      Delete
    2. Hmm... Just worked out that in two weeks time I shall have £40 to spend.
Take away a new codex, and that's £17.50 left. Enough for a special character? Alternatively, it might be enough for Angron, if Forgeworld release the model in time.
The only reason I might want to buy models immediately is if they are amazing limited edition models, which annoys me, because I am almost compelled to buy them before they run out.

Now... How to survive the next two weeks...?

I'm still using my second edition plastic Plague Marines and their dinky little rhinos (actually they look about right next to the tiny rhinos).

    4. I never forget and never forgive if new raptors will be ugly. Too many years of waiting. As for oblits, I have damn cool conversions and could live with them, but I'd still buy some new stuff. I've made my decision already towards GW, to hell with FW and their current pricing policy (well, maybe some terminators later).

      Delete
    5. Cataphract Terminators = Awesome Win. I want those so badly. I don't need them, but they just look so good that it makes me want a pre-heresy army.

      Delete
    6. As somebody had mentioned previously, there's probability of few more terminator armour patterns to be released due to Iron Warriors lore in second Horus Heresy book. Hope for that as well, especially for special weapons upgrade packs for terminators. Why codex does allow equip all chosen terminators same way, but box doesn't contain enough bits?

  17. Is the current codex flavorless and bland? Yes. Is it bad, no. It's competitive, especially with the most recent FAQ changes to daemon weapons and flying daemon princes. I am 2 & 0 against Space Wolves since the FAQ. With all the hype about the new 6th Ed codex, I am not sure it will live up to the hype. I don't have faith that Phil Kelly will be able to deliver what we are looking for. Let's face it, Chaos should have been wardian and instead we are going to get a codex that is over points costed and under powered compared to the codices that will follow.

We could be looking at another 3rd Ed codex that required a second codex within the same edition to make them fun.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Take it easy. As much as rumors have been heard, we don't know how the real thing is going to be, or how the following codices are going to be. Wait for it to be released to think about the tactics. Untill then, enjoy the amazing miniatures that will surely come out.

      Delete
    2. Yes, I forgot that we needed Abaddon to go around carving his name into the Emperor's heart. Of course Ward should have written our codex.
BTW, Phil Kelly wrote Dark Eldar and Space Wolves. Those are competitive armies. Whilst not as broken as Grey Knights, they are two very powerful armies. Besides, Phil Kelly writes customisable codices, and that's what the majority of Chaos players want.

    3. Yeah so he brought us spammable cheap units as well as units that are useless. Happy tomes

Can't wait to digest the White Dwarf - the two week delay on the actual codex release will be difficult, but methinks the pictures of the new models and hopefully some previews of the rules will tide us over.
