I finally got my chance to take a closer look at the new White Dwarf, and it definitely is a new magazine. I am not a big reader of magazines, so I cannot compare quality of the issue, but there is a remarkable difference between this magazine and the one that was released last month.

Also of note, this should be my last video without HD. Trying to get a new camera today.

  1. You must have no trouble swooning the opposite sex with that smooth ass voice of yours!

Wd itself, I really like. Wasn't fussed on how the batrep players came across, wanted a bit more personality... but all in all good stuff.

    1. lmao! I was thinking more along the lines of, "So this is what that MF-er sounds like!"

Thanks for the review. Design studio notes sound great and looking forward to reading the battle report. Kind of disappointed Chaos didn't win the battle report.

    2. His voice reminded me of Bob the guy who paints landscapes that are really sweet

  2. Definite improvement over the previous version of WD. Disappointed the battle report isn't longer - the long battle reports from the old old WDs were my favorite part (the ones that had a breakdown of every turn).

    1. Yeah I know what you mean BUT there was an awful lot of tedium in those plus the countless photos that bore no resemblance to the maps they included so apples and oranges perhaps?

It was a 100x better than any battle report in the last 24 months though!

  3. It really is a great magazine
and in the batrep they atleast admitted to just trying some new things and see how it goes and stuff like that, they don't make obvious "errors" in tactics
+ they don't glorify new releases, the forgefiend managed to kill like 1 terminator, in old white dwarf he'd probably have destroyed half the space marine army

  4. Still won't be buying the White Dwarf. Not unless there are rules for a new model belonging to an army I'm interested in.

Get plenty pictures here and on the Games Workshop website. Not interested in reading their battle reports, only battle reports of bloggers. Can learn painting skills from either my brother or the blogs. All of which I can do for free.

Thanks for showing that though Natfka. I might have picked it up only to be disappointed so you've saved me a few £'s.

  5. Really glad John Blanche is back and the addition of Kit Bash.
Still haven't read the battle report, but I'm already missing the full battlefield photo on every page, might be just me though.
The look at entire armies, Skavens in this case, and the Hall of fame sections are really nice additions IMO.
Not so keen on the photos tho, at least the Chaos models ones. Red lighting... ugh.

    1. my guess is the backdrop will be this issue only so that it would match with the cover backdrop

  6. I got the digital version on iPad last night and it's incredible. Hi-res photos, 360º pictures of the new releases, an post battle report video, etc. Great work from GW.

Plus it's €2 cheaper than the print version. Result!

    1. I 100% agree. I have the iPad version and it is great. The discounted pricing is a definite plus as well. It really maximizes the iPad format in a way that most other newspapers/magazines do not - really one of the best print to digital ports I have seen. And no glitches as far as I can tall.

    2. Second this. I just bought an iPad subscription. Stunning.

  7. I don't think they really do anything new... as we say in spain, the same dog with different muzzle.

  8. Anyone else notice the "extra close combat weapons" on the CSM squad in the batrep? Does that mean we're losing that as standard equipment?

  9. Having read the new issue, I have to say it is worth the £5.50 I paid, really top quality paper and production. The reports have reasons for fighting, which they tell you! They include painting guides for units alongside tactical awareness. Really a very different magazine.

  10. I'm very pleased with the magazine...

Great design, perfect size, cool pictures, John Blanche's minis (!! love it), Calendar (seriously, why not, it's useful), .. Had a great time flipping through it today.

Too bad the french translation still reads like kids writing...

Is the original writing any good?

  11. Yeah it's pretty good. The tactical analysis stuff is really good. If the modelling of the orc bombers article is anything to go by, this is a good change.

  12. To me so far it feels like an even glossier catalogue than before. Bigger pictures, bigger text, less words, so the slightly higher page count is countered by significantly less on each page. I'll give it a couple more issues but feel its style over substance. Some nice features though, blanchitsu, skaven army , ORk bomber kit bash , battleground close up. It feels heavier and more expensive, but still lots of pics of new releases which you can see on the website so still lots of padding-overall I'm not convinced. Zak

  13. Just occured to me: DOES IT HAVE A 'NEXT MONTH' PAGE?!

  14. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and feel this is step in the right direction. The only real qualms I have is the conversation and painting articles were very basic and way to simple and the lack new gaming material. While I know this may be to keep things simple for new painters and players, the old 'Eavy Metal masterclasses really taught me a lot great techniques to build on early on. Bringing back something like Chapter Approved would be great for keeping the game fresh. With the new allies rule they could really go crazy now with adding cool thing everyone could use in some way, whether they be new rules, units, or scenarios.

  15. I think it's a much better magazine than before and I have to say (Zak) that it was always going to be somewhat ad heavy this month purely due to the release of CSM. It will be interesting to see what an edition looks like that doesn't fall on a major release.

First WD I have purchased in years and I'll probably keep getting them on my iPad on an ad hoc basis :)

  18. Reporting from gamesday uk: have Horus heresy book one. It's gooooood!
Seen a couple of interesting green sculpts in the design studio: an alternate pose avatar, a warlock/farseer with knife only, a genestealer cult magus (not sure if very old original scuplt so may be new!), a definantly new ork warboss on foot with peaked cap and officers jacket with a big choppa resting on his left shoulder and a gretchin in similar attire. Will check on magus when home but a new ork at least!
