  1. GW needs to find a way to do better teaser videos.

    1. I actually find this a good teaser
it shows some stills from the new chaos flyer so it does what a teaser should do, show some new content but not too explicit

    2. This was probably the best teaser they've done. Remember when you watch these videos, they are aimed at people who won't have already seen the leaked pics or know what's coming.

lolz I love looking at their facebook.

  4. Yeah, a storm of unhappy customers. I don't remember this many people being upset or negative at any of the previous codex releases in terms of the model and prices. Myself included. And for one taht was so highly anticipcated and showed so much promise after DV.

    2. If I had the money, I would buy the models, except for the Mutilators. They all look very nice, but the prices are extortionate. £30 for a codex? F*** you, Games Workshop, Imperial Armour books look like very good value now.
Actually, forget that, FORGE WORLD looks like good value now.
The funny thing is, with previous releases, it's been the non-new codex players that have been unhappy, because of the rules, but with this, the models and prices have split the fan base apart. There are those who absolutely love it, there are those who are indifferent, and there are those who hate it. And for each of those groups, they are further divided into those who have the money and those who don't.
Whatever way you look at it, there's no going back to how Chaos Space Marines used to be.

    3. It's always fun to watch the entirety of the internet get amnesia between each Codex release.

I NEVER EVER EVER REMEMBER PEOPLE BEING THIS UPSET ABOUT NEW RELEASES! I AM ALSO INCAPABLE OF RECALLING MORE THAN SIX MINUTES INTO THE PAST WHERE AM I WHAT IS GOING ON WHERE ARE MY ARMS.

      Delete
    4. @Anon: People GOT upset about RULES. People are GETTING upset about MODELS AND PRICES. There's a difference with this release. I haven't heard cries of "OP! CSM are so broken!", I've heard cries of "What the hell is that model? That's ridiculous. How expensive?"

    6. Come now, were that many people up in arms about the following:
Blood Angels - sure, the gold nipples upset some people
Grey Knights - Dreadknights turned out OK in the end
Space wolves - they learned to love the thunderwolves
Tyranids - most seem to like the models, shame about the book
Dark eldar - well the models couldn't get worse now could they. In fact, it was an amazing redesign. (See Jez' sketchbook if you ever get the chance)
Necrons - Mixed opinions on the whole but generally well accepted, especially the vehicles and canopteks
Chaos - £30 codex, £40 dino-toy, £45 dino-flyer and only a month after the amazing sculpts offered by DV. (No. I'm not going to even mention the mutilators) The combo of high prices and lazy designs is gonna cheese people off. And the codex going up 50% for 8 more pages is too much, despite the binding and colour. £5 fine, like fantasy, but £10 = no thanks.

    8. 8 more pages? How long does that make it?

      Delete
    9. The fact that you just said "Dreadknights turned out OK in the end" proves absolutely everything I was saying.

Pure internet rage at the moment, and in six months you'll have Forgefiends and Maulers on that list of "things people really weren't that mad about" when you get another bout of Internet Amnesia and decide the new thing that angers you is the worst thing ever, etc etc for all time.

      Delete
    10. 'Proves' is a word people should avoid saying, especially those who choose to remain anonymous. I see dreadknight(s) in almost every grey knight list around here, competitive or otherwise. No amnesia, but I make no apologies for being disappointed in what I see despite my usual optimism for releases. That is my opinion and I see no reason to change it with every new image that comes out. People often say if you don't like it don't buy it. This is true, and I won't. I'm just disappointed that other choas releases are not in their place - nothing time and patience won't solve.

    1. Don't set the bar so high and offer such good value if you're then going to do the reverse next month once you've roped all the new guys (and old) in.

    2. Dude what? I felt the sarcasm dripping off of that post through the internet. I completely agree mr. trollski. People need to stop crying about these models. They look awesome, they'll have cool rules/weapons in the codex and you'll probably but them anyway once the consensus on the internet is that it's a cool/viable model. Please dont lie to us or yourselves. We all know how the 40k community acts on the internet

  6. As a long-time Necron player, I know loads of people who were upset with changes to the background, the style of the models, apparent weakening of certain models, too high prices, etc. etc. It happens with most codices - I don't think it happens quite as often with the Marine ones but I don't play those armies so may be unware of any dissatisfaction.

Now most Necron players have got used to the changes - though I miss my old Destroyers - and the fact that the army is now very powerful :) But there was a LOT of groping when the new Bot book first came out.

    1. Hmm... I know what you mean. With Chaos Space Marines, though, our previous release was probably the most drastic cut GW has ever made to an army (except sqauts). It cut out almost half of our units. Ever since that release, CSM players have been eagerly awaiting the next release, so that it can make up for that. The fact that it hasn't even come out yet, and the models and prices alone have divided up the fans is not a good sign.

  10. i know prices have gone up alot since i started playing 4 years ago but it seems like the prices are falling in line with everything else so i dont see the big deal i mean if you want to complain about price then complain about the price of all GW products not just the new chaos even though i will be breaking the bank when i start buying my new chaos models.

    1. Prices aren't falling in line. £30 for a codex is ridiculous. The other products do at least slot into their high price bands.

    2. I started this hobby pre- RTrader, the price really hasn't changed all that much. just the quality has gone up.

  11. My opinion. The Majority of folks won't be posting their comments. Why? Because all the sky is falling trolls are out. No one wants to get flamed. I'm sorry to tell you guys this, but you are a minority. It isn't the end of 40k. They will sell a lot of chaos codex. If the codex turns out to be very competitive, all the sky is falling waac players will pretend they never hated the models, prices or whatever else your pessimistic brains dreamt up.

I personally, can't wait to see a brand new csm force on the opposite side of a table from my force, so I can get the experience I crave.

The more I see of the forgefiends...i like them. They remind me if Warhounds, but with 4 legs.

    1. Sky is falling Waac players? I'm a casual hobbyist/gamer who can barely afford to buy the codex at that price. I was prepared for £22.50-£25, not £30.
I'm also not a minority in the prices. A lot of people I know were very shocked at the huge increase, and disappointed because Dark Vengeance was such good value for money. Following on from a release like that, this just feels like a step back.
Personally, I like the models. I would actually quite like to have them, but the new codex takes priority, and there's not enough room in my budget for both.

      Delete
    2. I agree with you completely. I'm quite fortunate to be in a well paid job and have been saving for three months for this release. I'll probably pick up the codex but none of these models appeal to me. I'll wait to see them in the flesh but I've seen a deal for annual membership at my local rock climbing club and I'm leaning toward using my money for that instead.

I'm an avid Tau player so GW will get my money when they redo them, but I'm not likely to spend my hard earned cash on an army of rather lacklustre models. It's a shame really, the last few armies may have had mixed receptions but I thought they were all really good in terms of the modelling and how they look on the tabletop.

    4. and again everyone is talking about the 30 pound codex
      IT'S 30 EURO!
so it's gonna be about 22.50 pound being in line with other codices
I think the main problem is that people here thought the prices were in pound
Natfka, could you please post the prices converted to pounds?

  12. Oh, and I like the video. They can make a lot of these vids without passing the costs off to us. Or would you rather see the price of models be even more?

    ReplyDelete
  13. The thing is it's always the vocal minority that goes around yelling doom and gloom to everyone that will listen. $66 dollars for a kit the size of a land raider? How is this upsetting? Its on the low end of what those boxes cost. Everything sounds to be about regular price. I think the models look amazing, some aesthetics I don't like as much as others but they all look great

  14. How to solve the high price conundrum? Easy, ebay!

  15. This video is very badly made. Just showing the Helldrake which does some screaming + lightning sounds doesn't really set off the purpose of this video.

These teasers should give you a clue about which army is next. Not some random new model which can only be seen in a corner of the screen. This is just too lame.

A good example of a teaser would be the Daemon of Chaos video which had whispers from the Warp. You know it's Daemons, but you don't know which kind of models will be released.

Regarding CSM they could do something like this:

    * zooming into the universe, slowly into the Warp.
    * you hear a whisper which becomes louder and you hear a voice saying:

"In the past we've been deceived. This whole time we've been fed lies..lies!... ALL LIES!! After all the milenia, it's time to get our revenge!.. LET THE GALAXY BURN!!"

    * WHAM

    3. That would be too much for their budget. Else they would end up getting a 2nd-3rd mortgage on their HQ, selling their organs and firstborn children.

  16. Not every song on a album is a hit. Still, they put their heart and sole into everyone. I kinda view DV as a greatest hits. ;)

  17. People complaining about the price increase on codex are insane. It's hardcover full colour just like all new war hammer fantasy codex. It's 2.50£ more than them (27.50£).

I your comparing the price to a 5th edition codex it's a moot argument. All 6th codex will be like this so get use to it.

    1. I certainly won't complain about the price increase on the codex. If I want to play CSM this is pretty much mandatory and I will need it.

The question remains if the content (fluff + rules) is worth it's price ( aside it being Hardcover + full colour). But it being written by Phil Kelly, I certainly will expect it worth every penny.

      Delete
    2. If you just start 40k and buy DV, well done, you found a good deal. But now, to play actual games of 40k, pay almost half of that again for a single book. Regardless of which way more experienced hobbyists will view the price, from the perspective of the new player, it is a huge price, and I don't think that's a good thing.
BTW, it's £2.50 more than them is not a good argument. Why should it be any different to them?

    3. I think when people read the " Free Poster" announcement on the WD they must have thought GW would lower their prices for chaos as a sign of a new era...

@40k_Rabbit: Yes... Suitably disgusting... Nurgle would be pleased. Although Matt Ward would probably try to retcon the fluff so that the reverse happened.

      Delete
    12. Yes, while Kelly explains in his codex the reverse action was all an illusion made up by Tzeentch. In reality Draigo carved "Legion Toilet" on his forehead with his own Force Sword.

  18. I'm so tired of all this lamentation.
    It's always I want, I want, I want.
Then finally when GW releases stuff people go, I don't want this, I don't want that!
Yes, the prices are steep, so what?
If you don't want it / can't afford it, then pass on it!
That and only that would be a way GW would really understand! It's a business company and when a release fails, it get's them to thinking and doing things otherwise.

I for once, most likely won't get me any of the new models. The new warped look just doesn't appeal to me. The models are well done though. Still I will get the codex and see if I can get some of the old Raptors to increase the count in my Night Lords army.

    1. Yes or the annoying "WE WANT PICS!"

    2. I'm glad with the way GW is doing stuff at the moment.
The models are looking nice no doubt. They just aren't what I'm looking for for my Night Lords.

      Still...
It's IMO way to often, that people are whining, that GW ruined this and that...
      :-P

    3. If prices are steep, why not order online? Most online shops offer a reasonable discount, like 20%. So this makes a codex, which cost ~€40,-, being €32,-. Not too bad imo for a Hardcover codex, at least it's cheaper.

      Delete
    4. Cant wait for when the codex is released and people start complaining about that too.

      Delete
    5. Most people complain w/o any reasons.

If it's the price, go to onlineshops who offer discounts, it's still cheaper than RRP.

      If it's the content:
      1. you haven't read it, so you can't judge it.

      2. it's written by Phil Kelly. Have more faith in him since he has done such nice work in the past.

      3. Don't judge it because some of the models are poorly made. Model design studio doesn't make the final decision on the codex regarding it's content.

    6. Simple solution for the dex overprice; pirate it! I for one would like to own a physical copy. I just hope its bound better than the last one. I've only had the current dex for 6 months and the damn pages are falling out! I love the look of the new models. Its unfortunate that I will probably be unable to afford a single one. Everyone says we should just accept these price hikes, but come on people! These are PLASTIC models for God's sake! It is absurd that there seems to be a price increase with every single release they make. I understand the whole inventory degradation and development costs. I don't understand why they won't give us more value for the kits we buy. DV was awesome for its price, but sadly it seems to be no more than a bait and switch!

  19. People lIke to complain. It gives them purpose.

Unfortuneately for them, most people who've seen the images think they are great new models. The vast majority of Chaos fans will buy into the new models as they always do.
And the bandwagoners will jump on the codec if it turns out to have some dirty net list potential.

The people banging on about the 'divisive nature' of the new models make me laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  20. All I see is more proof its the DA codex.

    ReplyDelete
  21. everyone should get a grip. Chaos by it's nature can look as bizarre and comical or dark and terrifying as it wants, and these models for the first time truly represent the mind bending forces of chaos at work. I am deeply impressed with all the models, as they will blend with my current CSM army very well. Which is not at all, as a by-nature disordered army would appear anyway. Now if only it was cheap...

  23. By far the worst teaser video. Having a degree in 2-d animation/ motion graphics, seeing this hurts, LOL. I',m glad i saw the leaked pics first.

    ReplyDelete
  24. This would've been an awesome teaser if the WD photos hadn't leaked first. GW needs to get their marketing shit together. You control leaks by doing them yourself, you post the teaser a week out (if this had been up last friday we'd all have been freaking out) then you leak your own pictures (high res so it doesnt look like crap the way the initial shots did)and let your fans do your marketing for you. Sigh.
