More pics today of the starter set models, and this set focuses on the Chaos Marine side of things. Really when it comes down to it, the Chaos models are the most eye catching models of the starter set, and these pics really help bring them to life. I love seeing the alternate paint schemes.

Here is a link to the GW site for closer and full pics of the models shown here.

  3. The models in this set are starting to look a little difficult to use in/as conversions (or is that just me)... i wonder if that's intentional.

    1. The head/torso/leg being solid with all that detail will be difficult, except the LC model (I see a million ways to go with that). The add-ons are going to be great slightly modded to other units (lovin the spiny backpack).

    2. Yes, these are going to be difficult to modify and/or scalp for parts. Pity.
The positive side that I see however is that hopefully this is the new level of detail that we will see in the coming Chaos releases. Those will be full of traditional sprues ripe for the looting.

    3. they are plastic. Starting Saturday, get some new blades, some files, some green stuff, and go.

    4. These will need some clever costumisation but I don't feel these will be the only Chosen available, a multi-part plastic boxset of 5 will all the options is a certainty… same goes for those cultists (just look at the Black Reach Ork Nobz/Boyz who also had seperate kits).

I hope they resculpt the current chaos plastics like the standard CSMs because when you compare the two, the older plastics a just so bland. I know these are The Chosen of Chaos but the bog standard marines do come across as 'spiky space marines' in light of this warped tainted chaos look.

If they don't, I will definately be warping up my current models inline with this new stuff.

    5. @anon: I certainly hope they release a chosen plastic kit that can take plasmas into their hands.. i use a 5 plasma squad and wish to transfer them into the cooler models. I think the new models show the hierarchy of the CSMs and show how 'chosen' are indeed more experienced than regular CSM, differentiating them through the models. I could use the powerfist for my regular fist champion though. :)

    6. It's nothing a sharp knife can't fix! I can see plenty of conversion opportunity in all of those models; the bodies themselves might not be easy to convert because of the moulded heads, but the weapons and arms shouldn't be too hard to hack off and use elsewhere and be replaced by something else.

Those backpacks in particular would be nice to scatter around an army on some Aspiring Champions or whatnot.

  4. I love the bolter on the backpack for the chosen, so awesome.

  6. Anyone have a solid idea how they did the blue highlights on those black legion marines? Love that paint scheme!

    1. From my experience with the new paint range I suspect they built up the highlights with some/all of (darkest to lightest) "The Fang", "russ grey", "Fenrisian Grey", "Celestra Grey", "Ulthuan Grey". I doubt they'd use all of them, though you never know with the 'eavy metal team. You can get a pretty good result just using three of the above I think.

    2. I wonder about the bluish-grey they use too. It looks perfect on the black legion. Will white dwarf tell how to paint that? Or should we experiment on our existing models?

    3. If you have the whitedwarf issue that showcased Chaos Daemons 5th edition release (ages old I know), there is an awesome tutorial in it on how to paint the plastic daemon prince and it shows you how to get this sort of effect on armor. Very handy if you have it.

    4. I agree with the other guy that it (armor highlights for alternate scheme chosen) looks like space wolf colors... perhaps 'the fang' and 'fenrisian grey'? or am i wrong? Ideas anyone?

    5. I think everyone on here is on the right idea. It looks like it could be a build up of grays to whites, and washed with a blue ink?

  7. These models are really bringing me into the fold of chaos... brilliant!

  8. Those models are fricken awsome. With the right paint you could make them look like, khorne, nurgle or slaneesh with out even having to tweek anything. I can feel Nurgle starting to take me over

  9. These sculpts are insane! totally loving the backpacks at the moment, harks back to the days of yore (2nd edition plastic clip-together Chaos Space Marine backpacks), the level of detail is so cool *Drools*.

  10. That Marine aiming with the Bolt Pistol and with the Power Fist behind him, I know I've seen the artwork of his helmet at the back of the current CSM Codex (the main fellow). Sweet!

  13. Hopefully these all get kits of their own - I'm not buying the box set, but the cultists are very exciting and old school.

  14. Can't wait to get my hands on these. If th CSM rumors are true, the champion with the power maul is going to be my dark apostle.

  15. Ill admit I came a little bit when I saw these things. It seems like their paint jobs don't really highlight the detail of the ornamentation, though. It looks like a mess, honestly, with all the big parts given bland colors compared to the bold flat parts. I can only imagine how awesome mine will be with some time to do them right.
